Detection of Fracture Signals of Low Prestressed Steel Wires in a 10 m PSC Beam by Continuous Acoustic Monitoring Techniques (연속음향감지기법을 이용한 긴장력이 감소된 10 m PSC보의 PS 강선 파단음파 감지)

  • Corrosion of prestressing tendons and wire fractures in grouted post-tensioned prestressed concrete bridges have been considered as a serious safety problem. In bridge evaluation the condition of prestressing tendons should be inspected, and if corroded tendons are found, the loss of tendon area should be included when we calculate the ultimate strength. In the previous study, it was evaluated that continuous acoustic monitoring techniques could be considered as a reliable non-destructive method for detecting wire fractures of fully grouted post-tensioned prestressing tendons. In the present study, an experimental test was performed for detecting wire fractures of post-tensioned prestressing tendons which are prestressed lower than current design level. A 10 m prestressed concrete beam was fabricated, which included two tendons prestressed 66 percentage and 40 percentage of tensile strength, respectively. The corrosion of two tendons was induced by an accelerated corrosion equipment and the test beam was monitored by using seven acoustic sensors and a continuous acoustic monitoring system. From each prestressing tendon, two acoustic signals of wire fractures were successfully detected and source locations were estimated within 20 mm error. Based on the test results, it is considered that continuous acoustic monitoring techniques can be applied to detect low-prestressed wire fracture in fully grouted post-tensioned prestressed concrete beams.

A Preliminary Study on the Reused Channel-Type Lining Board with Corrosion-Damage (부식 강재 복공판의 재사용성 평가에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • Channel-type lining board(CLB) is a welded steel structure used in the field of open cut subway excavation and building basement construction. Lining board is generally installed at the underground environment which is exposed to corrosion factors such as humidity, temperature and corrosive gases. This study evaluates reusability of the corroded lining board by experimental and analytical method. Static loading tests were performed to know serviceability of corroded CLB after checking thickness loss of the used CLB parts. Strain of the plates and middle point deflection was measured simultaneously. According to experimental test results and comparison with numerical analysis, the thickness loss of the plates by corrosion makes more vertical displacements and stresses in members under the DB vehicle load considering impact factor. As a result, this paper is proposed a way to evaluate used and corroded CLB by checking the plates thickness and it makes construction engineers easy to know optimal time to replace their old CLBs with new one.

Corrosion Resistance of Cr-bearing Rebar to Macrocell Corrosion Caused by Concrete with Crack (피복 콘크리트의 균열 발생에 기인한 매크로셀 부식 환경하에서의 Cr강방식철근의 방식성)

  • This study was investigated to corrosion resistance of Cr-bearing rebars to macrocell corrosion caused by concrete with crack. Ten types of steel bars having different Cr contents were embedded in concretes with imitation crack. The corrosion resistance of the Cr-bearing rebar was examined by measuring half-cell potential, macrocell corrosion current, corrosion area and weight loss up to 105 cycles of salt spray testing. The results revealed that the Cr content required for corrosion resistance in a macrocell corrosion environment caused by chloride ion gap of $3kg/m^3$ was 9% or more. The corrosion-resisting performance of Cr-bearing rebar was particularly noticeable with a Cr content of 11% or more.

Study on the Characteristics of Crevice Corrosion for STS304 Austenitic Stainless Steel(I) (오스테나이트계 스테인리스강의 틈부식 특성에 관한연구(I))

  • In these days, with development of industry, the use of machines and structures like ships, airplanes, bridges, power plants, and structure for construction has increased and these machines and structures are used in various corrosive environment. Especially, in case of STS 304, which is material for every kind of machine and chemical plant, it makes many problems related with corrosion and as a result of this, there are happening tremendous economic loss. Therefor, in this study, the test for polarization characteristics was carried out to study characteristics of crevice corrosion of STS 304 which is austenitic stainless steel, in NaCl environment.The main results obtained are as follows :1) Part of crevice is corroded, neighboring outside surface of crevice is passivation. 2) In polarization behavior, corrosion potential of STS 304 become more noble as the concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5% that of STS 3.4 become less noble. 3) The current density under corrosion potential was high drained as concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5%, the current density was low drained.

Development of Technology to Improve Maintenance Efficiency of Steel Corrosion using Zinc Powder (아연분말을 이용한 강재부식 유지보수 효율성 향상 기술 개발)

  • Purpose: This study is intended to improve the performance of traffic signs corroded by aging, to ensure maintenance efficiency, a water-hardened coating solution was developed. Performance tests were then used to determine the optimal component scale. Method: For research purposes, the results were analyzed by conducting corrosion resistance assessment, physical properties evaluation, storage safety assessment, etc. on coating solutions of various magnifications. Results: The analysis results showed that there was little hearing in the cutting area in the liquid with added magnesium, so the method effect was excellent. And there was little blister occurrence, which was analyzed at the highest magnification. Conclusion: Enhancements to future new component scale experiments are needed for water-hardened coating solutions that have been recognized for their performance through this study. And institutional improvement efforts are needed to expand the enforcement of traffic sign maintenance using coating solutions.

A Study on Steel Properties for Floating Photovoltaic System Structure (수상태양광 구조물의 강재특성에 관한 연구)

  • For the development of a floating photovoltaic system, materials with light weight and high tensile strength must be applied to reduce the burden on buoyancy, and material characteristics with high resistance to corrosion in water environment is required. Accordingly, a new high strength steel material with improved strength, durability, manufacturability, and weldability that are appropriate for floating photovoltaic system structures is needed. This paper reports the results of a mechanical load test and steel corrosion test on general steel (SS400) and high strength steel (POSH 690) for the selection of an appropriate steel material for a floating photovoltaic system. The results of a test on new high strength steel revealed excellent mechanical performance compared to general steel. The new steel material was manufactured for use in an actual site, and the weight was reduced by approximately 30~40% compared to existing general steel.

Influence of thickness ratio on corrosion resistance of Al-Mg multilayer films prepared by PVD method (PVD법에 의해 제작된 Al-Mg 다층막의 내식성에 미치는 두께 비의 영향)

  • 알루미늄(Al)은 노출 환경 중 치밀한 산화 또는 수산화 보호성 피막을 생성하여 강재를 부식환경으로부터 차단하는 역할을 한다. 또한 그 피막이 열화 또는 파괴되어 모재인 철이 노출되는 경우 철을 대신하여 희생양극으로 작용함으로써, 철의 부식을 지연시키는 역할을 한다. 한편, 마그네슘(Mg)은 매우 활성인 금속으로 우수한 희생양극 역할을 수행하나, 높은 활성에 의하여 자체 소모가 크기 때문에 단독으로 사용하기는 어렵다. 따라서 강재 표면에 알루미늄과 마그네슘을 다층으로 표면처리하게 될 경우 상기에서 언급한 보호적 특성과 희생양극적 성능에 의한 내식성 향상을 기대 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구에서는 진공증착을 이용하여 강재에 두께 비에 따라 Al-Mg계 코팅막을 제작하여 내식성을 비교-분석하였다.
