Radar Data Correction for Long Distance Observation In Coastal Zone (해안지역 내 원거리 레이더관측자료의 보정에 관한 연구)

  • In the coastal zone, to draw up short and medium range weather forecasts, mesoscale pluviogenic systems coming from the sea have to be observed in real time. These observations use remote sensing. However, satellite remote sensing is not sufficient to describe pluviogenic systems; reference to radar long distance observations is indispensable. This paper deals with the corrections, which must be made to long distance radar data if the rainfall field is to be both accurately and quantitatively defined. The error due to vertical variation in the reflectivity factor can be corrected from estimation of the mean profiles or by a climatic adjustment method. Atten-uation in the propagation can be corrected by an iterative polarimetric method. These various correc-tions permit the distance validity limits of radar data to be extended.

Fatigue Reliability Evaluation of Steel-Composite High-Speed Railway Bridge with Tuned Mass Damper (동조질량감쇠기를 장착한 강합성형 고속철도교의 피로신뢰성 평가)

  • This study proposes a fatigue reliability evaluation procedure for steel-composite high-speed railway bridge based on dynamic analysis and investigates the effectiveness of Tuned Mass Damper(TMD) in terms of the extension of fatigue life of the bridge. For the fatigue reliability evaluation, the limit state is determined using S-N curve and linear fatigue-damage accumulation. Dynamic analyses are peformed repeatedly to consider the uncertainties of train-velocity and damping ratio of the bridge. The distribution of random variables related to fatigue damage for the intended service life is then statistically estimated from analytical results. Finally, the fatigue reliability indices are obtained by means of the Advanced First-Order Second-Moment (AFOSM) method. Through numerical simulation of a steel-composite bridge of 40m span, the effectiveness of TMD on fatigue life of the bridge is examined and the results are presented.

A Simulation of Earthquake Loss Estimation for a Gyeongju Event (경주지역 발생 지진에 대한 지진손실예측 시뮬레이션)

  • Knowledge of expected losses in terms of physical, economic, and social damages due to a potential earthquake will be helpful in the effort to mitigate seismic hazards. In this study, losses due to a magnitude 6.7 scenario earthquake in the Gyeongju area have been estimated using the deterministic method in HAZUS. The attenuation relation proposed by Sadigh et al.(1997) for site classes B, C, and D, which are assumed to represent the characteristics of the strong-motion attenuation in the Korean Peninsula, has been applied. Losses due to the hypothetical earthquake have been also calculated using other attenuation relationships to examine their roles in the loss estimation. The findings indicate differences among the estimates based on various attenuation relationships. Estimated losses of the Gyeongju area by a scenario earthquake using HAZUS should be seriously considered in the planning of disaster response and hazard mitigation.

Spectral Analysis of Meanders in the Han River System (Spectral 해석(解析)에 의한 한강수계(漢江水系)의 사행분석(蛇行分析))

  • Meander characteristics of the Han River System using autocorrelation coefficient and variance spectrum were analysed, and meander paths were simulated by direction and direction-change series in this paper. Better wavelength estimates are obtained from direction-change spectra, dominant wavelength had the increasing tendency in order tributaries of the North Han River System, the South Han River System and the Han River Downstream System. The meander characteristics of tributaries in the North Han River, the South Han River and the Han River Downstream System could be obtained from the results of direction and direction change spectra. Direction and direction-change autocorrelograms are generally of damped oscillatory form, and wavelengths estimated from direction-change autocorrelograms correlate closely with wavelength estimated from direction-change specta.

Fabrication of $Li_2B_4O_7$ Series Single-Crystal TLDs and their TL properties ($Li_2B_4O_7$ 계열 단결정 TLD 소자의 제작과 특성)

  • High-quality single crystals of pure $Li_2B_4O_7$ as well as $Li_2B_4O_7$ doped with Cu, Mn and Mg impurities (1.0mol%, respectively) have been grown from the melt of $Li_2CO_3+2B_2O_3$ by Czochralski method in platinum crucibles. To study the thermoluminescent properties, $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were made by cutting in the size of $4{\times}5{\times}1\;mm^3$. The glow curves show two or three peaks which can be easily deconvoluted. It is observed that room temperature($20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$) fadings of the dosimetric peaks of $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were about 10 % for 30 days. The relative photon energy response for $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were about 85 % when the responses were normalized to that measured with $^{60}Co\;(1.25\;MeV)\;{\gamma}-rays$. The measured data are in a good agreement with theoretical ones. The $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs fabricated in this work can be used for monitoring personal and environmental radioactivity.

  • A disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller is proposed in this paper. The lumped disturbance to the vehicle yaw rate dynamics caused by the uncertain factors such as uncertain tire forces and parameters is estimated by the disturbance observer, which is utilized by the robust controller to stabilize the lateral dynamics of the vehicle. The dynamics of the hydraulic actuator is incorporated in the vehicle stability controller design using the model reduction technique. Modular control design methodology is adopted to effectively deal with the mismatched uncertainty. Simulation results indicate that the proposed disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller can achieve the desired reference tracking performance as well as sufficient level of robustness.

The Weather Representativeness in Korea Established by the Information Theory (정보이론에 의한 한국의 일기대표성 설정)

  • This study produces quantitatively weather entropy and information ratio using information theory about frequency in the appearance of precipitation phenomenon and monthly change, and then applies them to observation of the change of their space scale by time. As a result of these, this study defines Pusan, Chongju and Kwangju's weather representativeness and then establishes the range of weather representativeness. Based on weather entropy (statistical parameter)-the amount of average weather information-and information ratio, we can define each area's weather representativeness, which can show us more constant form included topographical, geographical factors and season change. The data used for this study are the daily precipitotion and cloudiness during the recent five years($1990{\sim}1994$) at the 69 stations in Korea. It is divided into class of no precipitation, that of precipitation. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) The four season's mean value of information ratio is the highest value. as 0.641, on the basis of Chongju. It is the lowest as 0.572, on the basis of Pusan. On a seasonal basis, the highest mean value of information rate is April's (spring) in Chongju, and the lowest is October's(fall) in Pusan. Accordingly weather representativeness has the highest in Chongju and the lowest in Pusan. (2) To synthesize information ratio of decaying tendancy and half-decay distance, Chonju's weather representativeness has the highest in April, July and October. And kwangju has the highest value in January and the lowest in April and July. Pusan's weather representativeness is not high, that of Pusan's October is the lowest in the year. (3) If we establish the weather representative character on the basis of Chongju-Pusan, the domain of Chongju area is larger than that of Pusan area in October, July and April in order. But Pusan's is larger than Chongju's in January. In the case of Chongju and Kwangju, the domain of Chongju area is larger than that of Kwangju in October, July and April in order, but it is less than that of Kwangju area in January. In the case of Kwangju-Pusan, the domain of Kwangju is larger than that of Pusan in October, July in order. But in April it is less than Pusan's.

  • 최근 기후변화의 영향으로 호우의 발생빈도가 증가하고 있는 추세이며, 도시지역의 호우는 돌발적이고 국지적인 특성을 가지고 있어 인명과 재산피해 역시 증가하고 있으며, 급격한 도시화로 인한 구조적으로 홍수에 취약한 실정이다. 국지성 도시호우는 저층(1 km 내외)에서 형성되는 강우가 지배적이며, 기존의 대형레이더는 높은 산 정상에 설치되어 1.5 km 이상의 강우관측을 중심으로 운영됨에 따라 저층강우의 탐지 및 변동성 관측에 취약하여, 이에 대형 레이더에서 뿐만 아니라 도시단위의 국지성 호우관측에 대응할 수 있는 소형 레이더 기반 고정밀 강우관측 마련 및 운영 기술이 필요하다. 현재 K-water는 부산 에코델타 스마트시티에 도시 물재해 플랫폼 구현의 일환으로 돌발강우사전 탐지 및 도시의 신속·정확한 강우 관측을 위하여 높은 시공간 해상도를 제공하는 이중편파X 밴드 소형 강우레이더를 설치하고, 효율적 운용을 위해 각 고도각에서의 빔 차폐율을 확인하고 이를 고려한 최적 관측전략을 수립하였다. 또한 Z-Phi 방법을 이용한 반사도 감쇠 보정 기술을 개발하였으며, 강우 추정을 위해 하이브리드 고도면 합성 기법(HSR) 기법을 적용하고 검증하였다. 이후 소형 레이더의 정량적 추정강수를 이용하여 강우예측 정보를 생산하기 위해 이류모델을 적용하고, 비슬산과 소형 합성 레이더 추정강수로 선행 10분에서 180분까지 예측할 수 있도록 개발하였다. 또한, 지상강우관측 자료와의 정확도 비교 평가를 수행하고, 행정구역 및 표준유역의 예측 평균강우량을 생산하여 부산 에코델타 스마트시티 도시 물재해 통합관리 시스템과 연계운영을 위한 후속 과업을 수행중에 있다.

A Study on the Passive Vibration Control of Large Scale Solar Array with High Damping Yoke Structure (고댐핑 요크 구조 적용 대형 태양전지판의 수동형 제진에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, satellites equipped with high-performance electronics have required higher power consumption because of the advancement of satellite missions. For this reason, the size of the solar panel is gradually increasing to meet the required power budget. Increasing the size and weight of the solar panel is one of the factors that induce the elastic vibration of the flexible solar panel during the highly agile maneuvering of the satellite or the mode of vibration coupling to the satellite or the mode of vibration coupling to the micro-jitter from the on-board appendages. Previously, an additional damper system was applied to reduce the elastic vibration of the solar panel, but the increase in size and mass of system was inevitable. In this study, to overcome the abovementioned limitations, we proposed a high -damping yoke structure consisting of a superplastic SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) laminating a thin FR4 layer with viscoelastic tape on both sides. Therefore, this advantage contributes to system simplicity by reducing vibrations with small volume and mass without additional system. The effectiveness of the proposed superelastic SMA multilayer solar panel yoke was validated through free vibration testing and temperature testing using a solar panel dummy.

Analyses of drought propagation characteristics and damage pattern using meteorological, agricultural, and hydrological drought indices (분야별 가뭄지수를 활용한 우리나라 가뭄 전이 특성 및 가뭄 피해 양상 분석)

  • 가뭄은 수개월 혹은 수년간 지속적이며, 점진적으로 광범위하게 피해를 미치는 자연재해이다. 강수 부족과 같은 비정상적 기상환경으로 인해 발생하는 기상학적 가뭄이 지속되어 토양 수분량 감소 및 식생에 영향을 미치는 농업적 가뭄을 발생시킬 수 있으며, 하천유출량 및 가용수자원이 감소하는 수문학적 가뭄으로까지 진행된다. 이처럼 분야별 가뭄이 장시간 지속됨에 따라 다른 종류의 가뭄을 발생시키는 현상을 가뭄 전이라고 하며, 가뭄이 전이되지 않은 비전이 사상보다 지역에 큰 피해를 야기한다. 최근 우리나라에서도 가뭄 전이와 관련된 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 하지만 기상학적, 농업적 및 수문학적 가뭄에 대한 가뭄 전이를 모두 고려하여 가뭄의 전이 및 비전이사상간의 피해 양상을 비교하는 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 전국 단위의 시군구별 SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index), SGI(Standardized Groundwater level Index) 및 PHDI(Palmer Hydrological Drought Index)를 사용하여 각각 기상학적, 농업적 및 수문학적 가뭄을 판단하였다. 각 분야별 가뭄간의 시간적 중복여부를 통해 가뭄의 전이 여부를 판단하고, 가뭄의 전이 특성(풀링, 감쇠, 지체, 연장) 분석을 수행하였다. 또한, 가뭄 전이 사상과 비전이 사상이 발생한 시기의 가뭄 피해 관련 자료를 수집하여, 지역별 가뭄 전이 사상 및 비전이 사상간의 피해 양상을 비교 및 분석하였다. 과거 충청북도 충주시는 2011년의 기상학적 가뭄(비전이 사상) 발생시 피해 인구가 없었으나, 2019년의 기상학적 가뭄에서 수문학적 가뭄으로 전이가 발생하여 999명의 피해 인구가 발생하였다. 즉, 동일한 지역에서 다른 시기에 발생한 가뭄 피해 및 동일한 연도에서 인접한 지역의 가뭄 피해를 분석한 결과, 비전이된 가뭄 사상에 비해 전이된 가뭄 사상에서 더욱 큰 피해를 가지는 것을 확인하였다.
