A Study on the Gang Sehwang's Ink Orchid Painting (표암 강세황의 묵란화 연구)

  • This paper is a study about the Gang Sehwang's (姜世晃 1713~1791) Ink Orchid Painting. Gang Sehwang is a representative literati gentleman who painted Four Gentlemen, for the first time, during the late Joseon Dynasty. There are 20 pieces of Ink Orchid Painting of his in Korea. His recognition of the Ink Orchid Painting can be understood through his records and analysis of his Ink Orchid Painting. He considered the sketch from the nature (寫生), practice of old paintings (古畵), and copy-training of the manual of paintings (畵譜). Particularly, Gang Sehwang focused on the copy-training of old paintings (古畵臨倣) which integrates the will and spirit of old literati gentlemen. This means that he had recognized the picture as a means of 'literature carrying morality (載道). Also, we could read self-discipline (修己的) values from his continuative copy-training of the manual of paintings (畵譜臨倣). Next, his Ink Orchid Painting were divided into the first half of the term (his 30s to 40s) and the second half of the term (his 60s to 78 years old). He had polished up on the Jieziyuanhuazhan ("芥子園畵傳") during the first half of the term and on the Shizhuzhaishuhuapu ("十竹齋書畵譜") or the Maejuknanguksabo ("梅竹蘭菊四譜") during the second half of the term. Therefore, it could be understood that he had depended on the manual of paintings (畵譜) for a long time. Nevertheless, he had completed the elegant and graceful Pyeoam Orchid (豹菴蘭)' based on his skill of the manual of paintings (畵譜) in his 70s. Finally, the 18th century Ink Orchid Painting and painters who lived (worked) at that time were investigated. He made?? the Albums of Calligraphy and Painting (書畵合壁帖) with Shim Sajeong (沈師正) and Choi Buk (崔北). They also interacted with each other by Calligraphy and Painting (書畵). Also, Yi Insang (李麟祥) and Im Heeji (林熙之) contributed to the diversification of the 18th century Ink Orchid Painting style by imitating Ink Orchid Painting with the manual of paintings (畵譜). Moreover, it is meaningful that the Ink Orchid Painting of Gang Se-hwang and the18th century Ink Orchid painters influenced the foundation of the 19th century Ink Orchid Painting fashion.

Investigation of Korean Maize Lines: N. Inbreeding Depression, Heterosis and Homozygosity of 69 Korean Maize Lines (재래종 옥수수 수집종에 대한 특성조사(IV))

  • This is the fourth report in serial studies on the botanical characters of Korean maize lines collected. Several plant characters and genetical nature of lines were investigated and compared among selfed, sibbed and test crossed lines. Inbreeding depression and heterosis, and homozygosity expressed in percent were calculated. Throughout the study a great extent of variation of plant characters and genetical variation expressed in terms of inbreeding depression and heterosis were observed. The observed plant and genetic variation of plant characters were assumed to be enough for providing new breeding materials for future maize breeding program. The degree of homozygosity of Korean local maize lines suggested that a great portion of maize grown by Korean farmers presently are near or close to inbred and presumed to show a great heterosis when crossed to divergent lines.

Genetic Distance and Heterosis Degree Among the Developed Waxy Corn Lines (찰옥수수 육성계통간 유전적 거리와 잡종강세 정도)

  • This study was carried out to find relationships of genetic distance and heterosis expression degree in the developed CNU waxy corn lines. The used material were developed in Corn Breeding Laboratory, Coll. of Agri. & Life Sci., CNU. Total 10 primers used for SSR maker analysis. In genetic distance, the used lines divided into four groups; A group has two lines, B group has one line, C group has ten lines and D group has eleven lines, respectively. Among used lines, CNU427 and CNU588 were very closed as a 74, while CNU451 and CNU429 were remote as a 40 inbred coefficient, respectively. While heterosis degree were very variable not only hybrids but also cross parents. Average heterosis of most cross-parent was high in plant height, ear height, flowering day and ear length. Especially, CNU H09-23 hybrid was high as 79.4% than other hybrids. Here, we gained the fact has closely relationship between genetic distance and heterosis.

How Science-Engineering Graduates Become so Powerful Elites in China? (중국의 이공계 강세 현상에 대한 고찰)

  • Korean scientific community has recently argued that, in order to attract talented young people to the science and engineering fields, more ranking positions in the governmental office should be filled in by science and engineering majors. In this context, a special attention has been paid to the Chinese case where science and engineering majors have taken the highest places in Chinese political hierarchy. This paper examines historical and social background of the salience of science and engineering fields in modem China. A closer examination shows that the salience of science and engineering fields was resulted by the distinct historical experiences of China-the socialist reform of higher education system and Cultural Revolution. The former shaped the social conviction that humanities and social sciences are less useful than science and engineering fields. The latter even spread the idea that majoring in humanities or social sciences run the risk of political oppressions. Thus, the salience of science and engineering in China is a social phenomenon reflecting an academic hierarchy forced by the radical politics of modem China. Also, the higher proportion of science and engineering majors in the raking governmental officers has been resulted by a unique Chinese political system, in particular the personnel management system of the Chinese Communist Party that emphasizes practical experiences after college graduation. The comparison of the social position of science and engineering majors in China and Korea without taking account of such historical and social background may therefore mislead our understanding of the cause of and counterplan to the decreasing popularity of science and engineering fields in Korean universities.

Studies on the Heterosis and Combining Ability for Heading Date of Wheat (소맥의 출수기에 대한 잡종강세 및 조합능력에 관한 연구)

  • This experiment was carried out to study the heterosis and the GCA and SCA effects for days to heading of F 1 populations produced from eight wheat cultivar diallel. Greater heterosis for early heading was exhibited under the high temperature condition than under the low temperature conditions, and same results were also observed under short day condition rather than long day conditions. There are highly significant mean for GCA and SCA at all environmental conditions. Yecora F70 was showed the greatest effect, and Bezostaya and Blueboy were exhibited less effects of CCA for early heading. Significant GCA effect was expressed at high temperature and short day condition, indicating that this condition provides a better opportunity to select the materials for earliness. Selections of combination with greater effect of SCA for early heading such as Suweon 169 \times Yecora F70 were discussed for practical utilization.

  • 한국어의 연속 음성 인식을 위하여 운율구 단위로 경계를 검출하는 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 과정의 일부로서 본 연구에서는 여러 음향 특징들을 조합하여 연속음성에서 음절 경계의 검출하는 방법을 제시하였으며, 연속 음성으로부터 한국어 운율구인 강세구의 경계를 운율 특징만을 이용한 패턴 비교 방법을 이용하여 검출한 것과 비교 검토하였다. 그 결과, 패턴 비교 방법으로 검출한 강세구의 경계를 음절의 경계와 일치되도록 정렬해줄 필요가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 2014년 주택시장은 초반에는 소폭 상승 하락을 거듭하지만 시간이 지나면서 지역별, 규모별 차별화가 심화될 것으로 전망된다. 지역별로는 초과공급이 상대적으로 심한 수도권에 비해 비수도권의 강세현상이 지속될 전망이다. 규모별로는 핵가족화, 고령화 등으로 인하여 가구의 다운사이징 현상이 뚜렷해지면서 중소형 강세, 대형 약세 현상이 지속될 것으로 보인다. 한편 2014년에는 매매시장 불안과 연관된 전세수요가 지속되면서 전세시장 불안도 지속될 가능성이 크다. 여기서는 현대경제연구원의 '2014년 주택시장 전망과 시사점' 보고서를 통해 최근 주택시장 흐름과 주택 시장 주요 수급여건을 분석한 뒤 2014년 주택시장의 특징에 대해 살펴본다.

  • 인간의 인간다운 삶의 영위를 강조하는 교회의 이념을 실현하기 위하여 일찌기 우리교회는 장애자복지사업에 힘써왔다. 10월에 있을 「88서울장애자올림픽」을 앞두고 지난 9월에 열린 「한국가톨릭장애자신앙대회」는 장애자들에게 자신감을 심어주고 사회적인 인식을 높히기 위해 교회안에서 처음 시도된 큰 행사였다. 이 신앙대회는 정상인과 장애인 모두가 하느님에 동등한 인격자라는 인식 아래 사회가 이들이 원하는 바를 이해하고 수용하여 서로 협조해야 한다는 인식을 새롭게 하고 이해를 높이는 좋은 계기가 됐다고 본다. 이글은 (사)한국장애자재활협회발행 강세윤 교수 편저 「장애예방 및 치료」중에서 그 일부를 소개한다. 장애자복지증진에 동참하는 모든 분들께 다소나마 도움이 되기를 바란다.-편집자 주-
