This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of application of an infrared drying to drying process for red pepper. The performance of seramic heaters and the variation of temperature and moisture content of red pepper were analyzed during an infrared drying of red peppers. Also, the quality of dried red pepper was analyzed. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. The surface temperature of infrared heaters and the rising time required for steady state were mainly affected by electrical power consumed. 2. The heat energy required for heating red pepper was proposed to be calculated by the equation in terms of enthalpy of air and net heat flux by infrared heater in a drying chamber. The statistical model for net heat flux was developed. 3. The performance of the infrared heater used for heating red pepper was much affected by the distance of radiation, and the difference of temperatures appeared between the radiated surface and the inside of red pepper. 4. Electrical capacity of the infrared heater had a significant effect on the heating of red pepper. However, the effect of shape of heater on heating was not significant. 5. The variation of temperature of red pepper largely appeared in the range of 30 to 60% (db) in moisture content. The temperature of red pepper was almost constant at low moisture content. 6. The temperature of red pepper and heating time had significant effects on the quality for radiant heating. 7. When the electrical capacity of infrared heater and the distance of radiation are carefully designed in a dryer with the insulated drying chamber, infrared drying might be very effective in red pepper drying.
The bioreactor system for the large-scale plant tissue culture was developed to control the pH concentration and DO (dissolved oxygen), and air flowrate. The system controlling the proper air flow rate for each bulblet growth stage and monitoring the contamination of bioreactor using the pH change was controled by computer program. For the uniform bulblet distribution in bioreactor, the proper air flow rate was 300 cc/min at the beginning of bulblet culture, 400 cc/min after 20 days, 500 cc/min after 40 days, 600 cc/min after 60days, and 700 cc/min after 80 days. It was possible to maintain the pH concentration within 5.5$\pm$0.5 during the culture by control system of bioreactor.

The railway signalling system plays an essential role in the headway and routing control for a safe and efficient train operation. The reliable and safe operation of the system is very important because the failure of the railway signalling system can lead to the collision, derailment, or unexpected stop of a train. So far, the conventional wayside signal mode (ATS: Automatic Train Stop) has been generally used as the railway signalling system. However, this system is highly linked to a risk of major accidents resulted from human mistakes such as missing a signal or careless control of train speed. Accordingly, the onboard signal mode (ATC: Automatic Train Control) as an alternative of ATS has been recently introduced and applied to transmit effectively the information on speed control of a train by using computers and communication equipment. In the process of replacing the obsolete signal system, it is necessary to switch over the system while providing passengers with normal services. Therefore, the integration of a railway signaling system compatible for both ATS and ATC and its interface is discussed in this study. In particular, the implementation scenario required for operation planning of the integrated system was designed, and the results as well as effects of its applicability test were also presented.
Egg grading is determined by exterior and interior quality. Among the evaluation methods for the egg quality, a candling method is common to identify eggs with cracked shells and interior defects. But this method is time-consuming and laborious. In addition, practically, it is challenging to detect hairline and micro cracks. In this study, an on-line inspection system based on acoustic resonance frequency analysis was developed to detect hairline cracks on eggshells. A roller conveyor was used to transfer eggs along one lane to the impact position where each of eggs rotated by the roller was excited with an impact device at four different locations on the eggshell equator. The impact device was consisted of a plastic hammer and a rotary solenoid. The acoustic response of the egg to the impact was measured with a small condenser microphone at the same position as the impact device was installed. Two acoustic parameters, correlation coefficient for normalized power spectra and standard deviation of peak resonant frequencies, were used to detect cracked eggs. Intact eggs showed relatively high correlations among the four normalized power spectra and low standard deviations of the four peak resonant frequencies. On the other hand, cracked eggs showed low correlations and high standard deviations as compared to the intact. This method allowed a crack detection rate of 97.6%.
In order to study the electrocardiogram of small animals authors deviced a fixing apparatus in the ventral resting position of rabbit and an attaching electrodes. Normal electrocardiograms of 8 adult rabbits were studied with author's improved fixing apparatus and electrodes. Leads taken were the standard limb lead, augmented unipolar leads and the unipolar precordial leads. The total numbers of various leads were eleven altogether. Results obtained in this study may be summarized as follows: 1. The details of the methods used to record and measure the six standard frontal plane leads and the five precordial leads of the rabbit electrocardiogram in the ventral resting position were described. The fixing apparatus of rabbits in ventral position are shown in Figure 1 and the attaching electrodes are shown in Figure 2. 2. The electrocardiographic changes in ventral position were more stable than in dorsal position in each lead. 3. The analysis of the amplitude, duration and other values of various waves are shown in Table 1 and Figure 3. 4. The electrocardiogram of rabbits showed decreased heart rate in ventral position than dorsal one. 5. The mean electrical axis of QRS complex in ventral position were +44.12 degrees and in dorsal position were +25.5 degrees.
This experiment was carried out to investigate systematically how the aerobic metabolic capacity of renal tissue reduced by the effects of a period of induced ischemia. Aerobic metabolic studies were performed on homogenates of cortex and medulla of rabbits. Ischemia was induced by occluding the renal vein or renal artery of the left kidney for an hour. The right kidney used as a paired control. Aerobic metabolism was asesssed by measuring the oxygen consumption using the Warburg's manometric apparatus. The results are summarized as follows: 1. One hour of occlusive ischemia does not increase in the kidney weight in the renal arterial occlusion but increase in the renal venous occlusion. 2. Occlusion of either the renal vein or renal artery for an hour did not reduce to any significant degree the level of endogenous substrate in cortical homogenates as measured the rates of $0_2$ consumption. 3. A significant reduction in the rate of $C_2$ consumption was noted in the medullary homogenates of renal venous occluded kidneys while renal arterial occlusion had less of an effect. 4. The capaciy of homogenates for aerobic metabolism is not reduced by acute ischemia, because of the higher rate of oxygen consumption induced by exogenous glucose in renal vein occlusion. 5. The oxygen consumption of medullary homogenate more decreased to acute ischemia than cortical homogenates. The results of this investigation suggest that one hour circulatory stasis does not reduce major potential capacity of renal cortical tissue at the subcellular level to produce energy. In contrast, the aerobic metabolism of medullary tissue is reduced by renal ischemia. Further, both cortex and medulla appear to be more sensitive to ischemia induced by renal venous occlusion than by renal arterial occlusion.

This paper presents a new method to estimate the pose of a moving object accurately using a monocular camera and a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system. For this goal, we adopted a deep neural network for the semantic segmentation of input images and compared the results with a semantic map of a neighborhood. In this map matching, we use weight tables to deal with label inconsistency effectively. Signals from a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system are used to limit search spaces and minimize the proposed function. For the evaluation, we added noise to the signals from a high-end GPS-IMU system. The results show that the pose can be recovered from the noisy signals. We also show that the proposed method is effective in handling non-open-sky situations.
Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is the emerging personal transport vehicle operating on the loop automatically. The PRT system utilize the electrical power from super capacity or battery, it is important to manage the power or energy. In this regards, the management of high temperature occurred by the operation of system is significantly important to prevent from serious damage of component. In this study, we studied the adequate shape of underbody which can reduce the heat accumulation by pickup coil and condenser using natural air cooling. We suggested the additional air pathway, air inlet and flow separator to decrease the temperature of the heat source components. It was found that suggested system can decrease the temperature of PRT under body by 16% during the static mode and by 10% during the running mode at 30km/h. It is expected that the findings of this study will feed into final design of newly built Korean PRT vehicle.

In this study, a commercial electronic nose system was used to detect contamination of Salmonella bacteria. Odors from growth media contaminated with Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella enteritidis, or Escherichia coli were collected and analyzed to evaluate a possibility of rapid detection of pathogen. Odor chromatograph showed that S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis, and E. coli had 7,6, and 9 main peaks, respectively. Retention time and intensity of the peaks were distinct for different bacteria species. Principal component analysis (PCA) were also performed to clarify odor differences. Analysis results showed that the odors for uncontaminated growth medium were differently grouped from the odors of contaminated one. The odor from the bacteria growth identified with two principal components, PC 1 and PC2. In PCA figures, odor groups were moved from left to right of PC 1 with elapse of the bacteria growth time. The electronic nose system could detect odors of S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis, E. coli when their concentration were $1.85\times10^6\;cfu/g,\;2.25\times10^6\;cfu/g,\;and\;1.8\times10^5 cfu/g$, respectively.
Purpose: The objective of this research was to select high quality cucumber (cucumis sativus) seed by classifying into viable or non-viable one using Raman spectroscopy. Method: Both transmission and back-scattering Raman spectra of viable and non-viable seeds in the range from $150cm^{-1}$ to $1890cm^{-1}$ were collected with a laser illumination. Results: The Raman spectra of cucumber seed showed Raman peaks with features of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to predict viable seeds was developed with measured transmission and backscattering spectra with Raman spectroscopy and germination test results. Various types of spectra pretreatment were investigated to develop the classification models. The results of developed PLS-DA models using the transmission spectra with mean normalization or range normalization, and back-scattering spectra with mean normalization treatment or baseline correction showed 100% discrimination accuracy. Conclusions: These results showed that Raman spectroscopy technologies can be used to select the high quality cucumber seeds.
