  • Sentiment classification is a recent subdiscipline of text classification, which is concerned not with the topic but with opinion. In this paper, we present a Korean sentence and document classification system using effective sentiment features. Korean sentiment classification starts from constructing effective sentiment feature sets for positive and negative. The synonym information of a English word thesaurus is used to extract effective sentiment features and then the extracted English sentiment features are translated in Korean features by English-Korean dictionary. A sentence or a document is represented by using the extracted sentiment features and is classified and evaluated by SVM(Support Vector Machine).

  • In ubiquitous computing that is to build computing environments to provide proper services according to user's context, human being's emotion recognition based on facial expression is used as essential means of HCI in order to make man-machine interaction more efficient and to do user's context-awareness. This paper addresses a problem of rigidly basic emotion recognition in context-sensitive facial expressions through a new Bayesian classifier. The task for emotion recognition of facial expressions consists of two steps, where the extraction step of facial feature is based on a color-histogram method and the classification step employs a new Bayesian teaming algorithm in performing efficient training and test. New context-sensitive Bayesian learning algorithm of EADF(Extended Assumed-Density Filtering) is proposed to recognize more exact emotions as it utilizes different classifier complexities for different contexts. Experimental results show an expression classification accuracy of over 91% on the test database and achieve the error rate of 10.6% by modeling facial expression as hidden context.

  • Affective computing plays an important role in intelligent Human Computer Interactions(HCI). To detect emotional events, it is desirable to construct a computing model for extracting emotion related features from video. In this paper, we propose a statistical model based on the probabilistic distribution of low level features in video shots. The proposed method extracts low level features from video shots and then from a GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) for them to detect emotional shots. As low level features, we use color, camera motion and sequence of shot lengths. The features can be modeled as a GMM by using EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithm and the relations between time and emotions are estimated by MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation). Finally, the two statistical models are combined together using Bayesian framework to detect emotional events in video.

  • Emotion is a psycho-physiological process that plays an important role in human interactions. Affective computing is centered on the development of human-aware artificial intelligence that can understand and regulate emotions. This field of study is also critical as mental diseases such as depression, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and game addiction are associated with emotion. Despite the efforts in emotions recognition and emotion detection from nonstationary, detecting emotions from abnormal EEG signals requires sophisticated learning algorithms because they require a high level of abstraction. In this paper, we investigated LSTM hyperparameters for an optimal emotion EEG classification. Results of several experiments are hereby presented. From the results, optimal LSTM hyperparameter configuration was achieved.

  • Traditional speech emotion recognition techniques recognize emotions using a general training model based on the voices of various people. These techniques can not consider personalized speech character exactly. Therefore, the recognized results are very different to each person. This paper proposes an adaptive speech emotion recognition framework made from user's' immediate feedback data using a prompted labeling technique for building a personal adaptive recognition model and applying it to each user in a mobile device environment. The proposed framework can recognize emotions from the building of a personalized recognition model. The proposed framework was evaluated to be better than the traditional research techniques from three comparative experiment. The proposed framework can be applied to healthcare, emotion monitoring and personalized service.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent navigation system that selects a proper route for user and applies the user's preference, user's tendency and environmental state estimated by driving information of user and road state. The system uses data of sensors, navigation and intelligent transport system to evaluate conditions of roads and it considers state of user's emotion. The system also uses soft-computing method to infer and learn the user's preference and tendency. We verify the proposed algorithm by computer simulation.

  • Online news has replaced the traditional newspaper and has brought about a profound transformation in the way we access and share information. News websites have had the ability for users to post comments for quite some time, and some have also begun to crowdsource reactions to news articles. The field of sentiment analysis seeks to computationally model the emotions and reactions experienced when presented with text. In this work, we analyze more than 100,000 news articles over ten categories with five user-generated emotional annotations to determine whether or not these reactions have a mathematical correlation to the news body text and propose a simple sentiment analysis algorithm that requires minimal preprocessing and no machine learning. We show that it is effective even for a morphologically complex language like Korean.

  • Given that emotion-based computing environment has grown recently, it is necessary to focus on emotional access and use of multimedia resources including images. The purpose of this study aims to identify the visual cues for emotion in images. In order to achieve it, this study selected five basic emotions such as love, happiness, sadness, fear, and anger and interviewed twenty participants to demonstrate the visual cues for emotions. A total of 620 visual cues mentioned by participants were collected from the interview results and coded according to five categories and 18 sub-categories for visual cues. Findings of this study showed that facial expressions, actions / behaviors, and syntactic features were found to be significant in terms of perceiving a specific emotion of the image. An individual emotion from visual cues demonstrated distinctive characteristics. The emotion of love showed a higher relation with visual cues such as actions and behaviors, and the happy emotion is substantially related to facial expressions. In addition, the sad emotion was found to be perceived primarily through actions and behaviors and the fear emotion is perceived considerably through facial expressions. The anger emotion is highly related to syntactic features such as lines, shapes, and sizes. Findings of this study implicated that emotional indexing could be effective when content-based features were considered in combination with concept-based features.

  • As smartphones appear as suitable devices to implement ubiquitous computing recently, there are many researchers who study about personalized Intelligent services in smartphones. An intelligent synthetic character is one of them. This paper proposes a method generating behaviors of an intelligent synthetic character. In order to generate more natural behaviors for the character, the Bayesian networks are exploited to infer the user's states and OCC model is utilized to create the character's emotion. After inferring the contexts, the behaviors are generated through the behavior selection networks with using the information. A usability test verifies the usefulness of the proposed method.
