  • Despite the growing importance of video-based social media content, such as vlogs, as a marketing tool in the travel industry, there is limited research on the characteristics that enhance engagement among potential travelers. This study explores the influence of emotional valence in YouTube travel content on viewer engagement, specifically likes and comments. We analyzed 4,619 travel-related YouTube videos from eight popular tourist cities. Using negative binomial regression analysis, we found that both positive and negative emotions significantly influence the number of likes received. Videos with higher positive emotions as well as negative emotions receive more likes. However, when it comes to the number of comments, only negative emotions showed a significant positive influence, while positive emotions had no significant impact. These findings offer valuable insights for marketers seeking to optimize engagement strategies on YouTube, considering the unique nature of travel products. Further research into the effects of specific emotions on engagement is warranted to improve marketing strategies. This study highlights the powerful impact of emotions on viewer engagement in the context of social media, particularly on YouTube.

  • The purpose of this study is to utilize emotional movement and developmental process in literary therapy. So, I tried to reveal the process of the emotional channel that works in the human body when we deal with literary works. As a result, the emotions confirmed that the emotional codes in the human body were pulled from each other and gathered to the positions of amino acids when the shears were spoken. However, it was judged emotionally to act as a catalyst for the synthesis of amino acids. Of course, this is a humanistic and convergent argument, not a medical proof. However, if these studies continue, it will contribute to making people think more healthily.

  • An analysis of emotional English utterances with 7 emotions (calm, happy, sad, angry, fearful, disgust, surprised) was conducted using the measurement of prosodic distance between 672 emotional and 48 neutral utterances. Applying the technique proposed in the automatic evaluation model of English pronunciation to the present study on emotional utterances, Euclidean distance measurement of 3 prosodic elements such as F0, intensity and duration extracted from emotional and neutral utterances was utilized. This paper, furthermore, extended the analytical methods to include Euclidean distance normalization, z-score and z-score normalization resulting in 4 groups of measurement schemes (sqrF0, sqrINT, sqrDUR; norsqrF0, norsqrINT, norsqrDUR; sqrzF0, sqrzINT, sqrzDUR; norsqrzF0, norsqrzINT, norsqrzDUR). All of the results from perceptual analysis and acoustical analysis of emotional utteances consistently indicated the greater effectiveness of norsqrF0, norsqrINT and norsqrDUR, among 4 groups of measurement schemes, which normalized the Euclidean measurement. The greatest acoustical change of prosodic information influenced by emotion was shown in the values of F0 followed by duration and intensity in descending order according to the effect size based on the estimation of distance between emotional utterances and neutral counterparts. Tukey Post Hoc test revealed 4 homogeneous subsets (calm

  • This study aims to reveal the content of and logic behind a recent negative public sentiment toward female idols with the example of a debate over songstress IU's fourth album that was released late last year. While previous studies on fandom have focused on the identification process towards entertainers and making community, a recent phenomenon of "anti-fandom" or "malicious comments" implies that more research is needed on negative emotions such as hostility or schadenfreude (feelings of pleasure from others' misfortunes). Schadenfreude is a social sentiment that originated in modern liberalism, which features contradictions between public equality and private ownership, and that has been intensified in neoliberalism, which features a maximization of this contradiction centering on a meritocracy. Celebrities in Korea often become the targets of schadenfreude, which is associated with the suspicion that they gain popularity not from their abilities but from "just being popular." It should also be noted that this kind of schadenfreude operates differently between male and female entertainers. Specifically, the acquisition of money and fame by modern women whose presence used to be located in the private possessions of males is considered to be due to their unjustified use of sexuality. This is also the background of the recent online misogyny culture in Korea. In this context, IU, who had been successful at building a differentiated image of "sister-like idol artist," became a valid target. Although accusing IU of utilizing pedophilia reflects a stalemate that a current politics of sexual violence faces, it rather damages the name of an individual than attracts public attention to the structural causes of childsexualabuse. This is why I see the way that pedophilia was used in the debate over IU as a schadenfreude. Consequently, the term pedophilia here contributes to an expansion of the entertainment economy that is sustained by rises and falls of the celebrities' stock prices.

  • Given the context of rapid developing ubiquitous computing environment, it is imperative for users to search and use images based on affective meanings. However, it has been difficult to index affective meanings of image since emotions of image are substantially subjective and highly abstract. In addition, utilizing low level features of image for indexing affective meanings of image has been limited for high level concepts of image. To facilitate the access points of affective meanings of image, this study aims to utilize user-provided responses of images. For a data set, emotional words are collected and cleaned from twenty participants with a set of fifteen images, three images for each of basic emotions, love, sad, fear, anger, and happy. A total of 399 unique emotion words are revealed and 1,093 times appeared in this data set. Through co-word analysis and network analysis of emotional words from users' responses, this study demonstrates expanded word sets for five basic emotions. The expanded word sets are characterized with adjective expression and action/behavior expression.

  • In this paper, we proposes a method for recognizing the facial expressions using ICA(Independent Component Analysis)-factorial representation method. Facial expression recognition consists of two stages. First, a method of Feature extraction transforms the high dimensional face space into a low dimensional feature space using PCA(Principal Component Analysis). And then, the feature vectors are extracted by using ICA-factorial representation method. The second recognition stage is performed by using the Euclidean distance measure based KNN(K-Nearest Neighbor) algorithm. We constructed the facial expression database for six basic expressions(happiness, sadness, angry, surprise, fear, dislike) and obtained a better performance than previous works.
