Analysis of Radar Cross Section of the Integrated Mast Module for Battleship (함정용 통합 마스트의 레이다 단면적 분석)

  • In this paper, the radar cross section of the integrated mast module for battleship is analyzed. The computation program based on physical optics and physical theory of diffraction is developed and the computed results are compared with those of commercial simulator to check the accuracy of computations. The radar cross section is calculated in terms of the mast shape, incident angle, and polarization. The radar cross section can be reduced through the change of the mast slope and the chamfered mast, which can be applied to a mast with a low radar cross section.

The Structural Characteristics of the Temporary Cofferdam in Accordance with the Shape and Size Obtained from Numerical Analysis (유한요소 해석을 통한 형상 및 크기에 따른 가물막이 특성 검토)

  • These days the circular cross section cofferdam has been frequently used for the earth retaining structures or cut off wall such as ventilating opening, intake tower in cofferdam, shaft for emergency. By the arching effect, the circular cross section type cofferdam has more advantage than a polygon cofferdam in terms of the structural forces and moment. This paper shows the proper approach to analyze the circular cross section cofferdam using 2D Finite Element Method (FEM) for the circular stiffener (ring beam) evaluation. Besides, the various shapes of cofferdam indluding circular cross section have modeled the 3D Finite Element Mothod (FEM). The circular cross section cofferdam shows the minimum reaction force compared with the other shapes of cofferdam.

  • Compared with ballasted track (BT), ballasted asphalt track (BAT) has been increasingly adopted in many countries due to its more greatly reduced reinforced roadbed thickness and smaller cumulative plastic deformation, and its advantages in terms of maintenance. In this respect, the authors' previous research includes analysis of BAT sections that show performance similar to that of BT sections of the present specifications; reliability verification of the analysis results through real-sized static and dynamic train-load tests were performed. Based on previous research, this paper estimates the track lifetime using the strain of the lower roadbed according to reinforced roadbed thickness; using probabilistic LCC analysis, this paper presents a BAT section that satisfies the design lifetime and that has performance similar to or higher than that of BT.

An Analytical Evaluation on Buckling Resistance of Tapered H-Section Deep Beam (춤이 큰 웨브 변단면 H형 보의 휨내력에 대한 해석적 평가)

  • Recently, in the domestic amount of materials,curtailment and economic efficiency security by purpose, tapered beam application is achieved, but the architectural design technology of today based on the material non-linear method does not consider solutions to problems such as brittle fracture. So, geometric non-linear evaluation thatincludes initial deformation, width-thickness ratio, web stiffener and unbraced length is required. Therefore, in this study, we used ANSYS, a proven finite elementanalysis program,and material and geometric non-linear analysis to study existing and completed tapered H-section as deep beam's analysis model. Main parameters include the width-thickness ratio of web, stiffener, and flange brace, with the experimental result obtained by main variable buckling and limit strength evaluation. We made certain that a large width-thickness ratio of the web decreases the buckling strength and short unbraced web significantly improves ductility.

Behavior Evaluation on the Non-symmetric Composite Column for Unit Modular Frames (모듈러 골조용 비대칭 기둥-보 접합부에 대한 거동 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the structural performance of press-formed type asymmetric column to beam connections of steel-PC composite module frames. Most of the column sections of the joints making up the modular frame use a closed square steel section. The column-beam connection using the closed column section has difficulty in reducing the workability and securing the fire resistance. In order to overcome this disadvantage, concrete is filled in the asymmetrical open type cross section of the steel plate by press forming. A total of four specimens were fabricated to investigate the structural performance of press formed type asymmetric column to beam connections. The experimental results show that the structural performance and behavior of the asymmetric columns are different depending on whether the asymmetric column cross section is composited or the column width thickness ratio. The structural performance of the press formed type asymmetric column to beam connection was evaluated by comparing the experimental results with the theoretical formulas.

Verification on the Axial and Flexural Plastic Resistance Analysis of Unconfined Corrugate Steel Sheet and Concrete Composite Section (비구속 파형강판 합성단면의 압축 및 휨 소성해석방법에 관한 분석)

  • For the composite section of corrugated steel sheet and concrete, which is often used in soil structures, a conservative design method based on the ultimate strength state is still applied due to the difficulty of the analysis of compatibility condition. In this study, plastic analysis was performed on the flexural and axial strength of the composite section using two limit state design methods, LRFD and LSD. As a result of the analysis of the experimental results, the LRFD analysis value was interpreted as a conservative results for compressive strength, and it was analyzed that the effect of the concrete compressive strength was greater than the steel ratio of the steel plate. The flexural strength was analyzed to be in good agreement with the experimental results by the LSD analysis. From the parametric analysis on the design variables, the hogging moment, which is affected by the tensile strength of the steel plate, slightly decreased the increasing rate of the strength due to the influence of the bolts connection, but the sagging moment linearly increased according to the increment of steel reinforcement ratio.

Studies on the Hardness of Woods (목재(木材)의 경도(硬度)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was performed to investigate the hardness of wood related to the wood surface, sap and heartwood, early and latewood, specific gravity, annual ring width and moisture content on major Korean tree species such as Pinus koraiensis, Abies holophylla, Larix leptolepis and Quercus valiabilis. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The arithmetic mean values of wood hardness on cross section were respectively $8.0kg/mm^2$ on Quercus valiabilis, $7.4kg/mm^2$ on Larix leptolepis, $5.1kg/mm^2$ on Pinus koraiensis and $4.7kg/mm^2$ on Abies hollophylla. 2. Generally hardness of wood on cross section was greater than the others and the proportion of cross section hardness to radial was respectively 2.8 on Quercus valiabilis, 2.6 on Larix leptolepis, 3.8 on Pinus koraiensis, and 4.1 on Abies holophylla and that proportion was tend to be decrease as specific gravity increased. 3. It was recognized that the hardness of sap and heartwood was different from each of the tree species and generally heartwood hardness was somewhat greater than sapwood. 4. Generally latewood hardness with in a ring was greater than earlywood and the proportion of earlywood hardness to latewood decreased as specific gravity increased. 5. The relations between hardness of wood and specific gravity show a high positive correlation on all sample tree species. 6. The values of hardness decreased with increasing annual ring width. 7. Hardness of wood on Abies holophylla was greatest in oven dried wood and it was decreased as moisture content increased, but not changed with moisture content abve F.S.P.. The proportion of oven dried wood hardness to green are respectively 3.0 on cross, 2.4 on radial and 1.9 on tangential section.

  • 풍력실험결과를 이용한 풍하중 산정 방법은 고층건물에 작용하는 풍하중을 산정하는 대표적인 방법이다. 일반적인 고층건물의 경우, 이 방법은 구조물의 형상에 변화가 없다면, 구조물의 고유진동수가 증가할수록 구조물에 작용하는 풍하중 크기는 감소하는 특성을 가지고 있다. 한편, 재분배기법은 단위하중법을 통해 계산되는 변위기여도를 근거로 하여 구조물의 형상은 유지하면서 각 부재 단면의 크기만을 변화시켜서 구조물의 강성을 조절하는 설계기법이다. 이 방법은 효과적인 물량 재분배를 통해 구조물의 강성을 증가시키고 이를 통해 구조물의 고유진동수를 증가시키는 특징을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 재분배기법을 이용하여 고층건물 구조설계 시 구조물에 작용하는 풍하중 크기를 합리적으로 감소시키는 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법을 풍력실험을 실시한 실구조물에 적용한 결과 구조물에 작용하는 풍하중 크기가 감소하고, 이를 통해 구조물량을 효과적으로 감소시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

The Characteristics of Curvature Ductility Factor of Reinforced Concrete Hollow Section Beams (철근콘크리트 속빈 단면 보의 곡률연성지수 특성)

  • In highly elevated piers and long span beams, a hollow section is often used to reduce the self-weight and increase the flexural rigidity of members. Numerical analysis was conducted to obtain the moment-curvature curves and curvature ductility factor for the RC hollow section beams under a range of hollow portion sizes and reinforcement conditions in the upper flange and web. The curvature ductility factor was constantly maintained until the hollow portion size($b_i/b_o/h_i/h_o$) was less than or equal to 0.5. The curvature ductility factor decreased sharply if ($b_i/b_o/h_i/h_o$) was 0.7 or more. The curvature ductility factor of the beam decreased if reinforcement was provided in the web of the RC hollow section beam. To obtain the same level of the ductility factor as the singly reinforced section, the reinforcement should be provided in the upper flange as much as the web reinforcement.
