  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine burnout and job satisfaction among nurses based on Job Demand-Resource Model. Methods: A survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted with 464 hospital nurses. Analysis of data was done with both SPSS Win 17.0 for descriptive statistics and AMOS 18.0 for the structural equation model. Results: The hypothetical model yielded the following Chi-square=34.13 (p=<.001), df=6, GFI=.98, AGFI=.92, CFI=.94, RMSR=.02, NFI=.93, IFI=.94 and showed good fit indices. Workload had a direct effect on emotional exhaustion (${\beta}$=0.39), whereas supervisor support had direct effects on emotional exhaustion (${\beta}$=-0.24), depersonalization (${\beta}$=-0.11), and low personal accomplishment (${\beta}$=-0.22). Emotional exhaustion (${\beta}$=-0.42), depersonalization (${\beta}$=-0.11) and low personal accomplishment (${\beta}$=-0.36) had significant direct effects on job satisfaction. Conclusion: The results suggest that nurses' workload should be decreased and supervisor's support should be increased in order to retain nurses. Further study with a longitudinal design is necessary.

One of the most frequent complaints among adult persons visiting the hospital is experiencing dizziness. Clinical nurses in the hospital play a crucial role in managing such patients. Methods: Our paper is a cross-sectional survey using structured instruments to evaluate clinical nurses' knowledge and educational needs about dizziness. This study was conducted January through February 2018. Subjects were 246 clinical nurses in an outpatient, intensive care, internal medicine unit and emergency department at university hospital. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistics 21. Results: The average ofdizziness knowledge score was 57.66± 23.75 (range 0-100) and educational need was 3.55 ± .47(range 0-5). There were significant differences in dizziness knowledge according to age (p< .001), working unit (p< .001), career duration (p< .001), change experience of unit (p< .001), dizziness patient care experience and participation in dizziness education (p< .001). There was positive correlation between knowledge of dizziness and the need for dizziness education (r= .26 p< .001). Conclusion: Results of this paper indicate that a dizziness education program is urgently needed for clinical nurses. Such a program should be seriously considered based on our results.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to provide basic data for the development of education programs which improve the nurses' infection control performance by investigating the knowledge, performance, and educational needs of infection control among nurses in long-term care hospitals, and analyzing the relationship between these parameters. Methods: This was a descriptive study. A self-reported questionnaire was provided to 153 nurses in 210 long-term care hospitals on Jeju Island. Their knowledge, performance, and educational needs of infection control, data were analyzed using SAS Window(ver. 9.4), t-test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Both knowledge (r=0.16, p=.042) and performance (r=0.52, p<.001) of infection control had positive correlations with the educational needs of the infection control. Conclusion: The higher the knowledge of infection control was, the higher the educational needs of the nurses were. However, knowledge of infection control did not correlate with performance of infection control. Therefore to increase the knowledge and performance of infection control, infection control education programs should suit the educational needs and the actual conditions of long-term care hospitals.

  • This study is to recognize the relationship between better life index, nursing performance and intents to leave among hospital nurses by comparison. From July 1to July 20, 2012. we collected survey results subjecting on total 700 nurses by random sampling of hospital-class medical institutes over 200 beds located on Busan & Gyeongnam, and analyzed final 677 copies. We recognized the degrees and the differences of happiness index, professionalism, intents to leave among hospital nerses and analyzed the factors impacting on intents to leave among hospital nerses through correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis between variables. The main result is as follows: First, the average of the item related to happiness index of nurse was 3.03 (5 points of scale) and the average score of professionalism was 3.09 (medium degree) but the average score of turnover intention was 3.35 (relatively high); Second, professionalism and turnover intention according to characteristics of subjects were significant statistically (p<0.05) and turnover intention indicated a significant negative relation with happiness index and professionalism; Third, a factor which mostly impact on turnover intention indicated a significant level (p<0.05) in professionalism, happiness index, general hospital, 2.01 to 2.5 million of average pay. Based on such results, as happiness index and professionalism are indicated as major factors to turnover intention, multi-dimensional viewpoint of follow-up study including further variables is required and the plan to apply nursing intervention program for reducing turnover intention is also required.

  • In contrast to the increase in demand for high quality healthcare, there is limited medical human resources such as doctors and nurses so an excessive amount of workload is being forced to them. Therefore, a patient monitoring system using USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) is becoming a solution. This paper proposes a patient monitoring system applying USN in maternity hospital to reduce the workload of nurses. According to the efficiency evaluation test based on the model of two university hospitals(S, K University Hospital) and their doctor's diagnosis, the results showed that under the circumstances that one nurse is in charge of 12 patients(6 normal delivery patients and 6 cesarean delivery patients), a total of 1,260 minutes of workload was saved during hospitalization period(5 days). Also, we compared the workload of nurses with or without our proposed system, and the figures showed that in case of normal delivery patients, the workload of nurses decreased by 50 minutes per patient, whereas in case of cesarean delivery patients, the workload of nurses decreased by 130 minutes per patient.
