The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of quality of life (QoL) and its related factors in patients with Korean Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). With data collected by Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey in 2013, general and disease-related variables, pulmonary function test, and EuroQol-5Dimension (EQ-5D) were analyzed. The mean of EQ-5D index was 0.916 in patients with COPD and 0.941 in non-COPD. The EQ-5D index and its sub dimensions (mobility, self-care, usual activity, pain/discomfort, anxiety/depression) of COPD patients were significantly lower than that of non-COPD. However, difference in COPD patients' airway limitation was significant only for self-care of EQ-5D (${\chi}^2=9.50$, p=.013). The related factors of QoL in COPD patients were age, gender, level of education, quartile of household income, smoking status, and number of comorbid diseases. Based on the results, it is important to pay close attention to COPD patients' QoL as well as comprehensive interventions which possibly improve their QoL.

This study attempted to derive high-risk groups of adolescent status delinquency(ASD) and to identify related factors. This study was conducted with 1,979 adolescents enrolled in the first year of high school, data from the 7th year of the 4th grade panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Classification and regression tree analysis method was used. The ASD group was 264, which was 13.3% of the total. The high-risk group for ASD is that is male who has a low perception of positive parenting style. Positive parenting style was found to be the most important influencing factor in ASD, followed by gender, emotional problems, relationship with teacher, and achievement value. In order to prevent ASD, it is necessary to develop a parenting education program and an intervention program specialized for male adolescents. In addition, interventions that comprehensively deal with emotional problems such as depression and social withdrawal are required, going beyond the previous interventions that focused on aggression. In particular, it has been found that relationship with teachers is the most important influencing factor in the school environment. Through education on the causes and consequences of ASD and training on counseling techniques, the promotion of relationships with teachers will act as a protective factor to prevent ASD.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze papers on child rearing in Korea and to suggest future research and nursing practice directions for child rearing. Methods: An on-line search via 5 web sites yielded 201 research papers. The analysis of key concepts was based on the attributes of parenting and type of knowledge held by the parents. Results: The research papers found in the search were 27.3% experimental and 72.7% non-experimental. Among the participants, 77.0% of parents raising the child were mothers and the children were mostly young children under the age of one year. Types of knowledge related to child rearing varied widely, but explanatory knowledge (55.2%) was the most common, followed by prescriptive knowledge (30.0%) and descriptive knowledge (14.8%). For attributes of parenting, reaction to parenting (49.9%) followed by parenting behavior/practice (43.1%) was most common. Conclusion: Findings of this study indicate that further research is necessary regarding fathers and surrogate caregivers and on prescriptive knowledge for health promotion of children at different developmental stages. Also the results suggest a need for research toward developing child care policies.

Nursing process is an essential part for nursing practice. Nursing faculty members must focus on the clinical application for students and try to identify the possible problems that students might face in the fields. The purpose of this study is to examine the actual condition of nursing process education in curricula and to investigate the response of students in clinical experience of nursing process. From 462 students in the 6 associate programs(ADN) and the 6 baccalaureate programs (BSN) data was collected by questionnaire. The results were as followed. 1. Seven programs (58.3%) opened the nursing process in mainly sophomore (BSN) or freshman(ADN). If not opened, the nursing process was taught at the major subjects(espcially fundamental nursing or adult nursing). 2. All Students responded they we supposed to use nursing process in preparing the case report. The majority(94.6%) used NANDA lists for nursing diagnosis and 55.7% of subjects consulted the Korean terms by KNA when translating. The tutors for nursing process in clinical settings were the professor in charge of the subject (68.6) or clinical instructors (48.1%) , assistants(34%). 3. The problems in clinical application that students experienced consisted of 17 items and the mean was 2.27. The biggest problem was 'the lack of the model for RN of applying the nursing process in clinical settings'(2.97). Next the big problem was 'the lack of the competency for implementing the established nursing plans'(2.69). All items were significantly different according to the level of educational programs(ADN or BSN). ADN students had more problems in applying the each step of nursing process and BSN students perceived the NANDA as a guidance of nursing diagnosis and the inconsistency of advices from several instructors or practicum to be mere problematic. 4. The mean of merits after application of nursing process was relatively fair (2.82). The best merit was 'they can identify nursing problems more exactly'(3.07). The second high merit was 'they can study the rational of nursing action' (3.03). BSN than ADN and the subjects of second year than of one year in clinical experience perceived the use of nursing process to be better. Based on this results we need to enforce the application of nursing diagnosis in the class. The use of sample cases can be the efficient method. Students can identify the possible health problems for patient from the cases in imaginary world and discuss them each other. Also we can use the discussion session after practice every other day or as needed. All this is on the good interaction between tutor and student. We must consider to have enough time for student to seize the essence of the nursing process.
To measure the degree of work stress and identify factors influencing the stress among OR nurses, a study was implemented for 131 OR nurses working at four university hospitals in Taegu city through self administered questionnaires. Mean score of total work stress of nurses was 3.71, when maximum score was 5. Relatively high degrees of work stress was evident among OR nurses. When the related factors of the stress specified in the questionnaire were grouped into 11 categories, the respondents turned out to feel the highest stress when they were faced with the categories of non-peculiar duty and personal conflict with doctors. The most stressful events were nursing malpractice during surgical operations and damage to OR equipments. The nurses more susceptible to workstress were married with one child, less educated and worked at OR for 3 to 6 years.

The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated-simulation practice program using standardized patients and to identify the effects of such program. The present study used a pretest-posttest design with a single group applied to 30 fourth-year nursing students in a university and developed a case scenario for alcoholism patients with diabetes mellitus in a community. As results showed, communication skills were significantly improved (t = 4.24, p < .001), but the learning of self-efficacy and motivation of transfer were insignificantly improved compared with the pretest. Moreover, motivation of transfer showed a positive correlation with the learning of self-efficacy (r = .758, p < .01). The purpose of utilizing an appropriate case development based on practical experience and hands-grade students was to improve the motivation of transfer and increase self-efficacy through problem solving. Therefore, we identified that an integrated-simulation practice program using standard patients was useful in the improvement of client centered nursing competence, such as communication skills. In addition, further studies would help develop various scenarios for the integrated-simulation practice program to improve not only communication skills but also increase self-efficacy and motivation of transfer.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate nursing students' awareness of biomedical ethics and attitudes toward death of terminal patients. Methods: A structured questionnaire was developed to examine nursing students' biomedical ethics. Their attitudes toward terminal patients' death were measured by using the Collett-Lester Fear of Death Scale. Surveys were conducted with 660 nursing students enrolled at a three-year college located in Daejeon, Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon rank sum test and Kruskall Waills test. Results: Students who have experienced biomedical ethics conflicts, agreed to prohibition of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and have no religion exhibited more negative attitudes toward death compared to students without the above characteristics. Of the participants, 81.2% answered that life sustaining treatment for terminal patients should be discontinued and 76.4% replied that CPR on terminal patients should be prohibited. The majority of the correspondents stated that the two measures above are necessary "for patients' peaceful and dignified death". Conclusion: Study results indicate the need to establish a firm biomedical ethics value to help nursing students form a positive attitude toward death. It also seems necessary to offer students related training before going into clinical practice, if possible. The training program should be developed by considering students' religion, school year, experience with biomedical ethics conflicts and opinion about CPR on terminal patients. The program should also include an opportunity for students to experience terminal patient care in advance via simulation practice on standardized patients.

In this paper, we aim to evaluate the effect of simulation training with a focus on the application of SBAR for the improvement of communication skills of nursing students with physician. The results of the analysis of 25 videos recorded pre/post-simulation were as follows: In terms of the SBAR score, "the most recently measured vital signs" in stage B increased significantly (Z = -2.448, p =.014); the frequency of step-by-step progress in SBAR did not advance to the SBA or SBAR stage in the pre-simulation stage, but increased to 48% post-simulation. The frequencies of SBAR evaluation items mentioned in the post-simulation were the following order: the name of the patient (96%), nurse's name (80%), most recently measured oxygen saturation (76%), and main symptoms (60%). The results of the nurse's judgment (A), request for additional prescription or request for the doctor's direct patient visit (R) were not mentioned. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the application of SBAR in simulation training, which requires problem solving through cooperation with physicians, because it has a positive effect on education in nurse-physician communication.
Our society is aging rapidly. In this super-aged society, the increase in healthcare costs are considered a national problem that undermines the sustainability of social security. Various services for healthcare for the elderly have been promoted to address this. However, most of them have focused on healthcare after the outbreak of chronic diseases and lack preventive healthcare. Most of the preventive healthcare projects are only pilots. In this paper, the current status of health care services for senior citizens at home and abroad was analyzed and based on this, the limitations and improvements were analyzed to propose the establishment of IoT-based Total Silver Care Center. IoT-based Total Silver Care Center may be conveniently monitored the health status of the elderly through various sensors, medical devices, and smart bands. And based on this, it can improve the quality of nursing services through time-saving and work efficiency of nursing providers. In addition, health care interventions may be provided in a timely manner if there is a change in the health status of users. And real-time imaging systems can help overcome mental difficulties.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cervical stretching program on neck pain, fatigue and range of motion caused by overuse of smartphone. Methods: We treated stretching program to measure the pain, fatigue, and range of motion of the neck before and after cervical stretching program for experiment group (n=25), control group(n=27) nursing college students using the smartphone. The general characteristics of the subjects and the range of neck pain, fatigue, and cervical range of motion were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the cervical stretching program for neck pain, fatigue, and range of motion of the neck were analyzed using independent t-test. Results: After cervical stretching program, the pain of the neck(t=2.86, p=.006), fatigue(t=5.44, p<.001). flexion(t=-2.10, p=.041), extension(t=-2.84, p=.006), right lateral flexion(t=-2.4, p=.047), left lateral flexion(t=-2.05, p=0.46) and right rotation(t=-4.48, p<.001), left rotation(t=-3.38, p=.001) range of rotation were improved. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that a cervical stretching program can be used as an effective intervention for health problems in musculoskeletal disorders due to smartphone overuse.
