Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare disorder characterized biochemically by the increased excretion of porphyrins and porphyrin precursors, including delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and porphobilinogen (PBG). AIP has variable clinical manifestations, such as acute abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, constipation, peripheral neuropathy, seizures, tachycardia, and hypertension. A 16-year-old girl presented with recurrent abdominal pain, vomiting, hypertension, seizures, hypercholesterolemia, and red urine. AIP was confirmed by clinical features and increased 24-hour urine ALA and PBG. AIP should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients who have abdominal pain, hypertension, and seizures when the results of all other tests are normal.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of hand acupuncture therapy on intermittent abdominal pain in children. Method: A quasi experimental pre-test and post (1,2)-test design was used. Data was collected from May, 2002 to February, 2003. Forty children were assigned to the experimental (20) or control group (20). The experimental group received Hand-Acupuncture therapy on the meridian point; A8, A9, A10, All, A12, E22, E45 for 20 minutes, while the control group rested on the bed. Data was analyzed using the SAS program with Fisher's Exact $x^2$ test, repeated measured ANOVA, and ANCOVA. Result: In the experimental group, pain intensity (f=63.26, p=0.00), A12(A)(F=60.40, p=0.00), and medication requirement ($x^2$=32.63, p=0.00) were significantly lower than that of the control group. Conclusion: These findings indicate that hand acupuncture therapy is effective for reduction of intermittent abdominal pain. Therefore, hand acupuncture therapy can be considered an independent nursing intervention for reducing intermittent abdominal pain.

We report a case of acute intermittent porphyria presenting with variable symptoms and signs such as hypertention, polyneuropathy, syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone and cerebral infarction. A 47 year-old female patient entered hospital with abdominal pain followed by generalized seizure. She was diagnosed to have acute intermittent porphyria in consequence of Watson-Schwartz test and ${\delta}$-ALA in 24 hours urine, but died of respiratory failure.

Intestinal malrotation is a developmental anomaly resulting from embryologic failure of fixation and rotation of the gut and predisposed to midgut volvulus and small bowel obstruction. Acute midgut volvulus is most often encountered in the newborn period. But older children and adults may have a history of intermittent episodes of partial volvulus presenting with recurrent colicky abdominal pain accompanying bilious vomiting. We experienced a case of intestinal malrotation complicated by midgut volvulus presented with recurrent vomiting and abdominal pain in a 6-year-old boy.
