  • Curriculum content interest has been studied in terms of teachers rather than students in ways that help revise curriculum and develop textbooks. In this study, 227 first-year high school students were interested in what they learned in middle school and what they learned in high school, focusing on meaningful assumptions and contents for middle school and high school students. We analyze this difference in interest by gender and achievement level. According to the research results, first-year high school students, who are in the middle and high school transition period, have relatively high interest in themselves, such as youth development, compared to family needs or interest in family life. There were no gender differences, but there were differences in content interest depending on the level of achievement. This means that the content interest should be interpreted by considering various variables such as the development of learners, the situation of learners in the school-level transition period, and the entrance examination of universities. The results of this study will provide implications for future curriculum revisions, textbook development, and curriculum considerations, and will need to be carefully analyzed and utilized based on a learner-centered perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a dietary education program to improve the caring ability and multicultural acceptance of middle school students. Based on the instructional system design of ADDIE model, the dietary education program was developed to contain five sessions including four theoretical lectures and one lab session. Visual thinking technique was used to train students to express their thoughts and emotion by writing and drawing. The dietary education program was conducted for four weeks (from November 19 to December 14, 2018) at a middle school located in Seoul on a total of 69 middle school students, out of which 34 were assigned to an experimental group and 35 were assigned to a control group. Separate paired t-test were conducted for the experimental group and the control group, respectively, to determine the changes in caring ability and multicultural acceptance scores before and after the dietary education. There were significant increases in caring ability (dietary-, emotional-, behavioral- and cognitive caring) and multicultural acceptance (diversity, relationship and universality) scores among the experimental group after the dietary program. However, no differences were observed among the control group. The results indicate that the dietary education program can be an effective tool to improve caring ability and multicultural acceptance of middle school students.

In order to improve a sense of responsibility of home economics teachers, and also to suggest the purpose and direction of program through job training, the needs of training subjects should be preferentially understood. Thus, this study aims to provide basic data for establishing the developmental operation measures of training for home economics teachers, by researching the needs for training performed after the qualification training for first-grade teachers, targeting the teachers participating in the qualification training program for first-grade teachers of home economics in 2017. About the half of the research subjects received the home economics training one time or less for last three years. Through the training for first-grade teachers, the technical improvement of lesson instruction was demanded the most. As professional qualifications that should be cultivated through training, the ability to develop teaching methods and teaching/learning materials was the highest. Regarding the theme of training, the development of teaching/learning materials for home economics was desired the most. They wanted the training method including direct participation with high utilization for lesson, sublation of competition-centered evaluation, preference of instructors with field experience, continuous opportunity of home economics training, and communicative training. Regarding the needs for the 2015 revised curriculum, the demand for the training of 'human development and family' area was the highest. Therefore, in order to improve the professionalism of teachers through home economics training, it would be necessary to improve the educational environment such as temporal room for training and administrative support, and also to provide diverse types of training like group training, remote training, and smartphone app training suitable for changes in the generation of teachers. Also, on top of forming communities of home economics teachers, and sharing great contents of training, there should be individually-customized training for practice and sharing lesson cases.
