A Study on Multi-Fault Diagnosis for Turboshaft Engine of UAV Using Fuzzy and Neural Networks (퍼지 및 신경망을 이용한 무인 항공기용 터보축 엔진의 다중손상진단에 관한 연구)

  • The UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that is remotely operating in various and long flight environments must have a very reliable propulsion system. Precise fault diagnosis of the turbo shaft engine for the Smart UAV that has the vertical take-off, landing and forward flight behaviors can promote reliability and availability. This work proposes a new diagnostic method that can identify the faulted components from engine measuring parameter changes using Fuzzy Logic and quantify its faults from the identified fault pattern using Neural Network Algorithms. The proposed diagnostic method can detect not only single fault but also multiple faults.

International Comparison of Decoupling of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Steel Industry (철강산업의 온실가스 배출 탈동조화 국제비교)

  • The iron and steel industry is a manufacturing industry with the largest greenhouse gases emissions and has a great ripple effect on the national economy as a core material industry. This study internationally compared the decoupling patterns of greenhouse gases emissions in the iron and steel industry from 1990 to 2019, focusing on Korea, Japan, and Germany. In particular, unlike previous studies that considered only fuel combustion emissions, this study considered all fuel combustion emissions, industrial process emissions, and indirect emissions from the use of electricity and heat. As a result of the analysis, Korea is interpreted as expansive coupling, Japan as decoupling, and Germany as unclear. Therefore, the decoupling path that the Korean iron and steel industry should take should not be in Germany, but in the form of seeking a decoupling method similar to Japan or more effective than Japan. In addition, this study considered the characteristics of the iron and steel industry as much as possible and presented the causes of the decoupling analysis results and implications for the Korean iron and steel industry through comparison with Japan and Germany. In particular, four factors were suggested as factors which has promoted decoupling in Japan: high value-added of Japanese iron and steel products, development of energy efficiency technology in the Japanese iron and steel industry, strategic M&A of the Japanese iron and steel industry, and maintaining competitiveness according to the closed distribution structure of Japanese iron and steel products. The Korean iron and steel industry should also use the case of Japan as a benchmark to further increase added value through quality uprade and product diversification of iron and steel products, while at the same time making efforts to fundamentally reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the development of new technologies.

  • 자동차에서 실내음질은 구매결정 요소들 중의 하나로 그 중요성이 점차 증가하고 있다. 따라서 다양한 운전조건에서 운전자가 기대하는 실내음질의 기대 수준을 충족시켜야 한다. 소비자는 운전경험과 습관에 따라 기대하는 음질에 차이가 있고 소리에 대한 표현방식도 모호하기 때문에 이러한 주관적 특성을 하나의 통일된 표현으로 정의 하기가 어렵다. 그러나 지난 이십여 년 동안의 음질개발과 차량 실내소음 주관평가의 통계처리로 통일된 표현을 할 수 있었다. 나아가 심리음향학 및 신호처리기술의 발달과 꾸준한 음질연구결과로 소리특성을 객관적으로 나타내는 소리의 시각화가 가능하였으며, 운전자가 인식하는 주관평가와의 상관관계를 높여 차량의 대표적인 음질인자로 정량화하여 음질목표를 설정할 수 있었다. 실내소음의 구성은 엔진 투과음, 흡배기 소음, 바람 소음, 도로 기인 소음 등으로 다양하므로 소음원에 따라 음의 균형을 맞추어 조화로운 음질개발을 하는 것이 중요했다. 또한 차량 판매되는 지역에 따라 선호음이 상이하여 지역별 실내음질의 차별화가 필요했다. 궁극적으로는 운전자의 감성품질을 만족할 수 있도록 음을 제어하여 브랜드 사운드를 개발하고 있다. 이러한 실내음질을 달성하기 위한 방법으로 소음원과 전달경로에 대해 기여도를 분석하고, 경로를 구성하는 시스템 별로 세분화하여 시스템 목표를 설정하였다. 시스템 개발에 중요한 인자로 차량의 동강성 및 흡차음 성능을 들 수 있다. 특히 디젤차량의 비중이 큰 유럽업체의 차량의 동강성 및 흡차음 개발 능력은 높게 평가되고 있다. 이에 유럽의 부품전문회사가 가지고 있는 해석과 시험적인 개발 방법을 통하여 전달계 특성을 만족하기 위한 시스템의 동강성 및 흡차음 특성을 개발하고 있다. 차량음질 튜닝의 중요한 기법 중 하나로 흡배기 개발을 추진하고 있다. 친환경자동차인 하이브리드차량, 전기차량 및 연료전지차량의 경우 전기구동부품에서 발생하는 각종 이음 발생을 최소화 했다. 보행자를 보호하고 운전의 즐거움을 향상하기 위한 가상사운드 개발을 진행하고 있다. 회사 수익성 향상을 위한 원가절감 및 구조 경량화에 따른 음질악화와 연비 향상 및 배기가스 규제 강화로 고성능 고출력 엔진탑재에 따른 음질악화 요인을 극복해야 했다. 운전자의 청감은 차량의 운전성에 따라서도 크게 영향을 받게 되므로 엔진제어와 변속기제어를 통해 음질과 운전성이 조화를 이룰 수 있도록 개발하고 있다. 향후, 소음원에 따른 시스템 최적화 개발, 운전성과 음질 연계 개발과 친환경차량의 가상사운드 개발 등이 자동차 음질 개발의 중요한 이슈로 생각한다.

Effect of internal pressure variation on the ceramic particle separation characteristics : computer simulation (분리기 내부 압력 변화에 따른 세라믹 입자 분리 거동 전산모사)

  • By controlling the internal pressure in the cyclone separator, we investigated the separation charateristics of $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$ particles with the internal pressure variation. 3-dimensional Langrangian approach was applied for the analysis of the particles separation, and then the minimum cut diameter of the separated particles and the separation rate were calculated through tracking the particle trajectories. The density of the argon gas for transporting particles was decreased corresponding the pressure decrease, consequently, caused the internal pressure drop in the cyclone separator. For that reason the finer particles were separated as the pressure was changed from an atmospheric pressure to an low pressure. Specifically, at 50 torr pressure, $Al_2O_3$ particles of the size of about 4 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and $Fe_2O_3$particles of about 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ could be separated.

  • The construction and operation of industrial automation has been actively taking place from manufacturing plan to production for improving operational efficiency of production line and flexibility of equipment. ISO/TC184 is standardizing on operating methods that can share information of programmable device controllers such as PLC and IoT that are geographically distributed in the production line. In this study, the design of the cell controller consists of PLC group and IoT group that perform signals such as temperature sensors, gas sensors, and pressure sensors for thermal processes and corresponding motors or valves. The operation and analysis of the cell controller were performed using SDN(Software Defined Network) and the three types of process services performed in thermal processes are real-time transmission service, loss-sensitive large-capacity transmission service, and normal transmission service. The simulation result showed that the average loss rate improved by about 17% when the traffic increased before and after the application of the SDN route technique, and the delay in the real-time service was as low as 1 ms.

Evaluation of Efficiency of SVE from Lab-scale Model Tests and Numerical Analysis (실내모형시험과 수치해석을 통한 SVE의 효율성 평가)

  • Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) has been extensively used to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the vadoze zone. In order to investigate the removal mechanism during SVE operation, laboratory modeling experiments were carried out and tailing effect could be observed in later stage of the experiment. Tailing effect means that removal rate of contaminants gets significantly to decrease in later stage of SVE operation. Also, mathematical model simulating the tailing effect was used, which considers rate-limited diffusion in a water film during mass transfer among gas, liquid, and solid phases. Measurement data obtained through the experiment was used as input data of the numerical analyses. Sensitivity analysis was performed to examine the effect of each parameter on required time to reach final target concentration. Finally, it was found that the concentration in the soil phase decreased significantly with a liquid and gas diffusion coefficient larger, actual path length shorter, and water saturation smaller.

  • It is necessary to reduce aviation GHG(CO2) emission to ensure aviation sustainable development. Operational improvements may not contribute significantly to carbon reduction but it can sustatially reduce emission in a short term. ICAO has developed GANP and ASBU to optimize operations and countries are making efforts to expand infrastructure and develop technology. The legal barriers to operational improvement are based on the notion of state sovereignty under the Chicago Convention which allows countries to control inefficiencies based on borders or limit or prohibit the passage of aircraft. Chicago Convention does not grant unlimited freedom of air sovereignty and if the concept of state sovereignty is interpreted according to the times it is possible to achieve smooth operational improvement.

Effect of N2 Diluent on Soot Formation Characteristics in Ethylene Diffusion Flames (에틸렌 확산화염 내 질소 혼합이 매연 생성 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The risk of climate change has been long acknowledged, and ongoing efforts to overcome this issue, within the shipping sector, with the international maritime organization playing a central role. Conducting research on characteristics of soot formation is crucial to control its occurrence within the combustion process. In this study, the laser extinction method and chemical reaction numerical analysis were employed to examine the alterations in the state of chemical species associated with flame temperature, flame visual, and soot formation by mixing nitrogen, an inert gas, in the counterflow diffusion flame based on ethylene gas. The findings of the study suggest that as the mixing ratio of nitrogen increased, both the flame temperature and soot volume fraction decreased. Additionally, the area in which soot particles were distributed also decreased, and the volume fraction decrease rate declined when the mixing ratio increased by more than 30%. The mole fraction of the chemical species involved in soot growth also decreased. the chemical species associated with the HACA reaction were affected by variations in the hydrocarbon fuel ratio, and the chemical species related to the odd carbon path were confirmed to be affected by the flame temperature as well as the hydrocarbon fuel ratio.

Physicochemical and Archaeometric Characteristics of Goryeo Period Potteries from the Sandongri in Seosan, Korea (서산 산동리 고려시대 도기의 물리화학적 및 고고과학적 특성)

  • The excavated potteries of Goryeo Period from the Sandongri archaeological site in Seosan were studied on physicochemical analyses. Surface color of the samples are mainly grayish blue, and showed the natural glaze by melting the body soils during the burning. Partly, swelling surface are observed bloated marks because of blow out gas by burning. The potteries are some possibility of making the similar source clay on the basis of magnetic susceptibilities (about $1{\times}10^{-3}SI\;unit$) and general occurrences. Values of specific gravity, apparent porosity and absorption ratio are divided two groups as highly different cases of bloating surface samples. The source clay of the potteries used mainly microcrystalline clay, the mineral compositions are quartz and some colored minerals. Based on the analysis, the burning temperature of the potteries are assumed that they were around $1,100^{\circ}C$ because detection of quartz and mullite within hard and compact matrices. As geochemical variations of the samples, evolution trends of rare earth, compatible and incompatible elements showed very similar patterns excepting the some major elements, that means the potteries are interpreted to making by elutriation processes using the same raw clays from very similar basement rocks of genetically.

Hydrochemistry and noble gas origin of hot spring waters of Icheon and Pocheon area in Korea (이천 및 포천지역 온천수의 수리화학적 특성 및 영족기체 기원)

  • Hydrochemical, stable isotopic ($\delta^{18}O$ and dD) and noble gas isotopic analyses of seven hot spring water samples, eleven groundwater samples and six surface water samples collected from the Icheon and Pocheon area were carried out to find out hydrochemical characteristics, and to interpret the source of noble gases and the geochemical evolution of the hot spring waters. The hot spring waters show low temperature type ranging from 21.5 to $31.4^{\circ}C$ and the pH value between 6.69 and 9.21. Electrical conductivity of hot spring waters has the range from 310 to $735\;{\mu}S/cm$. Whereas the hot spring water in the Icheon area shows the geochemical characteristics of neutral pH, the $Ca-HCO_3$(or $Ca(Na)-HCO_3$) chemical type and a high uranium content, the hot spring water in the Pocheon area shows the characteristics of alkaline pH, the $Na-HCO_3$ chemical type and a high fluorine content. These characteristics indicate that the hot spring water in the Icheon area is under the early stage in the geochemical evolution, and that the hot spring water in the Pocheon area has been geochemically evolved. The $\delta^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ values of hot spring waters show the range of $-10.1{\sim}-8.69%o$ and from $-72.2{\sim}-60.8%o$, respectively, and these values supply the information of the recharge area of hot spring waters. The $^3He/^4He$ ratios of the hot spring waters range from $0.09\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $0.65\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ which are plotted above the mixing line between air and crustal components. Whereas the helium gas in the Icheon hot spring water was mainly provided from the atmospheric source mixing with the mantle(or magma) origin, the origin of helium gas in the Pocheon hot spring water shows a dominant crustal source. $^{40}Ar/^{36}Ar$ ratios of hot spring water are in the range of an atmosphere source.
