Improvement of virtual speaker localization characteristics using grouped HRTF (머리전달함수의 그룹화를 이용한 가상 스피커의 정위감 개선)

  • A convolution with HRTF DB and the original sound is generally used to make the method of sound image localization for virtual speaker realization. But it can decline localization by the confusion between up and down or front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we study a virtual speaker using a new HRTF, which is grouping the HRTF around the virtual speaker to improve localization between up and down or front and back directions. To effective HRTF grouping, we decide the location and number of HRTF using informal listening test. A performance test result of virtual speaker using the grouped HRTF shows that the proposed method improves the front-back and up-down sound localization characteristics much better than the conventional methods.

Thiele Small Parameters Estimation for Pseudo Loudspeaker within 10 mm Grade Circular-type Microspeaker (10 mm급 원형 마이크로스피커의 가상 스피커 TS 매개변수 규명)

  • It was discussed to identify Thiele Small Parameters for Pseudo loudspeaker within 10mm grade microspeaker attached to closed-box using known dynamic mass of moving parts. Also, enhanced circuit model for vented-box micro speaker system was used to more accurately simulate electrical impedance curves for real vented-box microspeaker system and compared to test results. Consequently, it showed that micro speaker could be modeled by pseudo loudspeaker TS parameters similar to general loudspeaker. Vented-box microspeaker model with pseudo loudspeaker TS parameters was well suited to describe real microspeaker. Also, it was proposed to estimate volume of rear closed-box of microspeaker without design specifications.

  • 본 논문에서는 멀티채널 오디오 재생시스템을 구성하는 라우드스피커들이 표준위치와 상이한 위치에 존재할 경우 입력된 멀티채널 오디오 신호가 표현하는 음장감을 최대한 유지하면서 주어진 라우드스피커 배치환경에 최적으로 가상음원과 멀티채널 오디오 신호를 재생하는 방법을 제안한다. 능동잡음제어 기술에 이용되는 LSM 기술을 활용하여 원음장과 스피커를 통해 재생되는 복원음장 사이의 오차를 최소화하는 음향공간필터를 설계하여 적용하였으며, 청취평가를 통하여 음장감이 유지됨을 확인하였다.

  • It was proposed to identify Thiele Small Parameters for loudspeaker attached to closed-box using known dynamic mass of moving parts. Also, enhanced PSPICE circuit model for closed-box loudspeaker system was proposed to more accurately simulate real closed-box loudspeaker system. Frequency dependent parameters were used to model voice coil inductor. Acoustic pressure response curves and electrical impedance curves were simulated and investigated by PSPICE circuit model according to compensation filter's parameters. Finally, proposed method is expected to be utilized for identification of pseudo Thiele Small parameters of microspeaker.

  • In this paper, we proposes the virtual sound source panning algorithm in the multichannel system. Recently, High-definition (HD) and Ultrahigh-definition (UHD) video formats are accepted for the multimedia applications and they provide the high-quality resolution pixels and the wider view angle. The audio format also needs to generate the wider sound field and more immersive sound effects. However, the conventional stereo system cannot satisfy the desired sound quality in the latest multimedia system. Therefore, the various multichannel systems that can make more improved sound field generation are proposed. In the mutichannel system, the conventional panning algorithms have acoustic problems about directivity and timbre of the virtual sound source. To solve these problems in the arbitrary positioned multichannel loudspeaker system, we proposed the virtual sound source panning algorithm using multiple vectors base nonnegative amplitude panning gains. The proposed algorithm can be easily controlled by the gain control function to generate an accurate localization of the virtual sound source and also it is available for the both symmetric and asymmetric loudspeakers format. Its performance of sound localization is evaluated by subjective tests comparing with conventional amplitude panning algorithms, e.g. VBAP and MDAP, in the symmetric and asymmetric formats.

  • 본 논문은 스피커의 저역 재생 대역을 확장하기 위한 가상 저음 시스템의 성능을 향상시키기 위한 방법을 제안하였다. 제안 방법은 생성하는 신호의 위상을 기존 신호의 위상과 맞추어 강화 과정에서 발생하는 상쇄 간섭의 가능성을 제거한다. 또한 생성한 배음의 상대적 크기를 기본 주파수에 맞추어 가변적으로 적용하여 저역감을 효과적으로 강화하면서 음색의 열화를 줄이는 방법을 제시한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 기존 가상 저음 시스템보다 더 높은 성능을 가지는 것을 확인하였으며, 스피커 환경에서 저역 재생 성능의 향상을 확인하였다.

Acoustic and Electrical Analysis of Microspeaker for Mobile Phones (모바일 폰용 마이크로스피커의 음향 및 전기 해석)

  • In this paper, GUI program for microspeaker system simulation program was developed and verified through closed box, vent box and 6th order bandpass enclosure system. By using the pseudo loudspeaker model concept, TS parameters and rear volume of microspeaker were identified. Their suitabilities were proved by comparing test results with simulations of electrical impedance and sound pressure response curves for the three box types; closed box, vent box and 6th order bandpass box. Also, MSSP was found to be effective regardless of the microspeaker's shape, either circular or rectangular shape. MSSP can be used for the microspeaker system simulation, and can give a general prediction of such as; sound pressure level curve, electrical impedance, diaphragm velocity and displacement curve according to multiple design parameters; diaphragm mass, compliance, force factor, front and rear volume, front and rear port's diameter and length.

  • 본 논문에서는 헤드폰과 스테레오 스피커를 통하여 가상의 음상을 임의의 위치에 정위시키는 음상정위 시스템을 구현하고, 주관 평가를 통하여 음상정위 성능을 고찰하였다. 음상정위 시스템은 크게 방향감을 제어하는 컨벌루션 처리부와 공간감과 거리감을 처리하는 잔향 처리부, 그리고 스테레오 스피커를 통해 소리를 재생할 때 발생하는 크로스 토크(corsstalk)를 제거하기 위한 트랜스오럴(transaural) 필터부로 나누어진다. 구현된 시스템의 음상정위 성능은 리스링 룸에서 녹음된 음성과 메트로놈 소리를 이용하여 수평각/고도각, 정지음/이동음, 거리감 등을 헤드폰과 스피커를 통하여 각각 실험한 결과 수평각 지각은 스피커 재생보다 헤드폰 재생이 우수했으며, 정지음보다 이동음의 지각 결과가, 고도각 지각은 전.후(0$^{\circ}$~360$^{\circ}$) 방향보다 좌.우(90$^{\circ}$~270$^{\circ}$) 방향의 결과가 우수하게 나왔다.

  • In modern recently technology, 3D-Audio is used to enhance immersion in Virtual Reality. This includes interest of people about VR and AR, which related to the field of computer graphics. In fact, a lot of research has been carried out in recent years into a 3D sound field. However, the existing 3D generator device used for virtual reality does not contain Doppler effect occurred by the sound comes to or leave from a listener, while an angle from the listener and the altitude of the source sound are applied. Therefore, this paper present 3D real sound utilizing Doppler effect with spatial-rotation-speaker. We map the source sound in 3D-space into a real space where a user stays and present 3D real sound by manipulating with rotation angle, phase difference, sound output volume of the sound in 3D-space, according to the location of a virtual source sound. Utilizing both natural Doppler effect of rotating sound that is occurring by spatial-rotation-speaker and artificial Doppler effect generated by frequency-modulation of sound quality could improving the virtual reality for sound condition for perspective listening.

Perceptual Localization of a phantom sound image for Ultrahigh-Definition TV (UHD TV를 위한 가상 음상의 인지 위치)

  • This paper presents a localization perception of a phantom sound image for ultrahigh-definition TV with respect to various loudspeaker configurations; two-horizontal, two-vertical and triplet loudspeakers. Vector base amplitude panning algorithm with modification for non-equidistant loudspeaker setup is applied to create the phantom sound image. In order to practically study the localization performance in real situation, the listening tests were conducted at the on-axis and off-axis positions of TV in normal listening room. A method of adjustment which can reduce the ambiguity of a perceived angle is exploited to evaluate the angles of octave-band signals. The subjects changed the panning angle until the real sound source and virtually panned source were coincident. A spatial blurring can be measured by examining the differences of the panning angles perceived with respect to each band. The listening tests show that the triplet panning method has better performance than vertical panning in view of perceptual localization and spatial blurring at both on-axis and off-axis positions.
