  • In the present study, we developed virtual reality education contents for radiation generator on radiation education field. The radiation generator was divided by module and even the X-ray exposure part was manufactured in detail for designing 3D models. The mechanical details of the X-ray exposure part, the function of adjusting field size of the X-ray, the function of moving the exposure part, and the demonstrating the principle of the X-ray tube were applied. For developing VR contents, the Unreal Engine was used. To evaluate the usefulness of virtual reality content, we used t-test by SPSS. The group used the simulator showed significantly higher levels of understanding of X-ray generation, X-ray irradiation unit composition, irradiation field size adjustment, irradiation unit position adjustment, and overall composition and function. We believe that this VR contents will be used well with radiation safe environment.

  • With the recent development of various kinds of virtual reality devices, there has been an active research effort to increase the sense of reality by recognizing the physical behavior of users rather than by classical user input methods. Among such devices, the Leap Motion controller recognizes the user's hand gestures and can realistically trace the user's hand in a virtual reality environment. However, manipulating an object in virtual reality using a recognized user's hand often causes the hand to pass through the object, which should not occur in the real world. This study presents a way to build a visual feedback system for enhancing the user's sense of interaction between hands and objects in virtual reality. In virtual reality, the user's hands are examined precisely by using a ray tracing method to see if the virtual object collides with the user's hand, and when any collision occurs, visual feedback is given through the process of reconstructing the user's hand by moving the position of the end of the user's fingers that enter the object through sign distance field and reverse mechanics. This enables realistic interaction in virtual reality in real time.

  • This study was aimed at determining the effect of virtual reality(VR) based exercise programs on energy expenditure during gait in chronic stroke patients. Thirty-two stroke patients were participated for this study. They underwent stroke for more than 6 months and were assigned to a VR-exercise group (n=16) or a control group (n=16). The VR-exercise group executed a rehabilitation exercise three times a week during 6 weeks. The VR-exercise was performed by PS2 for one hour. Control group maintained their usual life without application of exercise. Energy expenditure index(EEI) during gait was calculated from heart rate and gait velocity. After the completion of the VR-exercise, the EEI was decreased significantly (p<0.05). These results showed that the rehabilitation exercise using a virtual reality is effective in the improvement of energy efficiency during gait in chronic stroke patients.

  • Although a hand haptic interaction which provides direct and natural sensation is the most natural way of interacting with VR environment, the hand haptic interaction has still limitations with respect to the complexity of articulated hand and related hardware capabilities. Particularly, virtual assembly simulation which refers to the verification process of digital mockup in product development lifecycle is one of the most challenging topics in virtual reality applications. However, hand haptic interaction is considered as a big obstacle, because difficulty initial grasping and non-dextrous manipulation remain as unsolved problems. In this paper, we propose that common hand haptic interactions involves two separate stages with different aspects. We present the hand haptic interaction method enables us to stably grasp a virtual object at initial grasping and delicately manipulate an object at task operating by one's intention. Therefore, proposed method provides the robustness using grasping quality and dextrous manipulation using physically simulation. We conducted experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method under different display environments -monoscopic and stereoscopic. From 2-way ANOVA test, we show that the proposed method satisfies two aspects of hand haptic interaction. Finally, we demonstrated an actual application of various assembly simulation for relatively complex models.

  • Today, the field that actively utilizes HMD, which is a representative implementation device of virtual reality, is game. We have frequently used interface design using metaphor to user interface of HMD based virtual reality game. The purpose of this study is to find out the metaphor types that appear in the game interface of the virtual reality FPS genre of HMD devices, which is a new medium. As a result of research, the metaphor types appearing on multiple interfaces have navigation, predictability-based, familiarizing, and physical world metaphor in terms of information perception and predictability-based and familiarizing metaphor in term of control action. It is considered possible to construct a correct mental model. It is expected that the stability-based metaphor to prevent user mistakes and the presentation metaphor to identify the identity of information space will be needed in the future.

  • An efficient R&D Methodology with minimized development period and cost needs to be developed due to advanced performance requirements of weapon systems. This will require the performance of logistics support analysis and design verification in the development stages of weapon systems through VR technology. VR technology has been applied to the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) process as a part of collaborative system. In this study, we propose a development and application plan of ILS based on VR technology during the total life cycle of weapon systems. Moreover Digital Maintenance System (DMS) is introduced as a VR tool with key functions. finally, applications and improvement topics of DMS are suggested for use in ILS development.
