  • The wavelength converter is considered to be a key element of future dense WDM optical networks. It enables wavelength reuse and resolves contention problem. Moreover, the tunability of the wavelength converter enhance the flexibility of network systems by facilitating reconfigurable dynamic wavelength routing. In order to achieve optically tunable wavelength conversion, we recently proposed and experimentally demonstrated wavelength conversion and tuning based on cascaded sum and difference frequency generation in a Ti:PPLN channel waveguide.   • A new, simple lasing loop configuration employing a fiber grating was proposed and demonstrated for all-optical gain control of erbium-doped fiber amplifier. The lasing loop was designed such that the fiber grating acts as a notch filter to cutoff the lasing light as well as selects the lasing wavelength. The operating gain was clamped to the same level as the loop loss and it could be varied with a tunable directional coupler in the loop. It is believed that this type of gain-controlled erbiumdoped fiber amplifier can have several advantages when used in wavelength-division-multiplexed transmission systems.

  • AMOLED에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 LTPS (Low Temperature Poly Silicon) TFT에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 다결정 실리콘은 단결정 실리콘에 비해 100 cm2/V 이상의 이동도를 보이는 우수한 특성으로 인해 AMOLED 디스플레이에 적합하며 여러 기업에서 LTPS 공정을 이용한 TFT제작을 연구 중이다. LTPS 공정은 현재 ELA (Excimer Laser Annealing) 방식으로 대면적 유리기판에 ELA 방법을 적용함에 있어 설비투자 비용이 지나치게 높아진다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 설비투자 비용의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 Diode Laser을 이용하여 Annealing하는 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구는 Diode Laser Annealing 방식을 이용하여 poly-Si을 구현하였다. 단결정 실리콘을 제작하기 위해 ICP-CVD장비를 이용하여 150$^{\circ}C$에서 SiH4, He2 혼합, He/SiH4의 flow rate는 20/2[sccm], RF power는 400 W에서 700 W으로 가변, 증착 압력은 25mTorr으로 하였다. 940 nm 파장의 30 W Diode Laser를 8 mm Spot Size로 a-Si에 순간 조사하여 결정화, 그 결과 grain을 형성한 polycrystalline 구조를 확인하였다.

Characteristics of a tunable optical fiber drop/pass filter (파장 가변 가능한 광섬유 drop/pass필터의 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose a tunable drop/pass filter in the form of composed of Mach-Zehnder interferometer, to which a fiber grating and two PZTs are attached. The proposed drop/pass filter drops a part of signal power at a specific wavelength and pass the remnant of the signal to the next node in WDM network. Our simulation results show that the optical feedback is less than 2% and the drop to pass ratio can be made bigger than 10% if the phase difference between the two arms is within .+-.0.2.pi. from (2m+1).pi.. Also, the output powers at drop prot and pass port are measured to be maximum at the phase difference of .pi./2 and .pi., respectively, as expected.

Analysis of biomarkers with tunable infrared gas sensors (가변 파장형 적외선 가스 센서에 의한 생체표지자 분석)

  • In this study, biomarkers were analyzed and segmented using tunable infrared gas sensors after performing the principal component analysis. The free spectral range of the device under test (DUT) was around 30 nm and DUT-5580 yielded the highest output voltage property among the others. The biomarkers (isoprophyl alcohol, ethanol, methanol, and acetone solutions) were sequentially mixed with deionized water and their mists were carried into the gas chamber using high-purity nitrogen gas. A total of 17 different mixed gases were tested with three tunable infrared gas sensors, namely DUT-3144, DUT-5580, and DUT-8010. DUT-8010 resolved the infrared absorption spectra of whole mixed gases. Based on the principal component analysis with each DUT and their combinations, each mixed gas and the trends in increasing gas concentration could be well analyzed when the contributions of the eigenvalues of the first and second were higher than 70% and 10%, respectively, and their sum was greater than 90%.

Fault Analysis of Transformer using Tunable Infrared Gas Sensors (가변 파장형 적외선 센서를 이용한 변압기 결함 진단)

  • The objective of this study is to determine the concentrations of mixed gases by establishing a diagnosis method of a transformer using tunable-wavelength optical infrared sensors. Absorption of infrared light by methane, acetylene, and ethylene gases injected is measured from the outputs of the infrared sensors. Regression analysis equations of the gas concentrations are acquired from their respective measured absorption. The obtained concentrations are as follows: -3-9 % errors above 600 ppm(methane), 3 % errors above 1200 ppm(acetylene), and 10 % errors above 500 ppm(ethylene). The concentration inference equations obtained using the individual gases are applicable when the absorption wavelength bands do not overlap. The results of the fault analysis of a transformer using the Duval triangle method and the tunable infrared gas sensors are as follows: temperature faults with -1-1% errors and energy faults with -7-7 % errors.

  • 본 연구는 새로운 마커형태인 2D Grid 마커와..적외선 카메라를 이용한 마커 트래킹 기술에 대하여 기술하고 있다. 제안하는 2D Grid 마커는 가변 비트의 표현이 가능하며 회전방향의 인식이 가능하다. 그리고 내부 비트 연산을 통하여 서로 다른 마커를 구분 할 수 있게도 해준다. 일반 웹카메라를 적외선 카메라로 변환하여 영상을 처리하였고, 적외선 파장의 영상을 사용하여 에러율을 감소시키고 인식률을 증가시켰으며 비가시화 영역인 적외선 잉크로 인쇄된 부분도 인식될 수 있도록 하였다.

Estimation of Sensitivity Enhancements on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor Using Dielectric Multilayer (유전체 다중층을 이용한 국소 표면 플라즈몬 공명 센서의 감도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, we designed an LSPR sensor based on a thin-film multilayer comprising $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$. The thickness of the overall substrate layer of the suggested multilayer LSPR sensor is limited to 100 nm, and the number of repeating $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$ thin films is 1-4 within a limited thickness. Additionally, a nanowire structure with a gold thin film of 40 nm, height of 40 nm, period of 600 nm, and line width of 300 nm was formed on the multilayer. To design the variable wavelength-type SPR, the angle was fixed at $75^{\circ}$ and the wavelength was changed. We then simulated the system with the finite-element method (FEM) using Maxwell's equations. It was confirmed that the resonance wavelength became shorter as the number of multilayers increased when the refractive index was fixed. We found that the wavelength changes were more sensitive. However, no changes were observed when the number of the multilayers was three or higher.

A 4-bit optical true time-delay for phased array antennas using 2×2 optical MEMS switches and fiber-optic delay lines (2×2 광 MEMS 스위치와 광섬유 지연선로를 이용한 위상배열 안테나용 4-비트 광 실시간 지연선로)

  • In this paper, we designed a 4-bit optical true time-delay(TTD) for phased array antennas(PAAs), which is composed of a wavelength-fixed optical source, 2 ${\times}$ 2 optical MEMS switches, and fiber-optic delay lines. A 4-bit TTD with a unit time delay difference of 6 ps for 10-GHz PAAs has been implemented. Measurement results on time delay show an error of -0.4 ps at maximum, corresponding to a radiation angle error of less than 1.63$^{\circ}$. Thus, the TTD implemented in this research performs in excellent agreement with theory. Each TTD line, composed of MEMS switches and fiber-optic delay lines, connected to the corresponding antenna element has insertion loss in between 1.36 ㏈ and 2.40 ㏈ depending upon the setup of the switches. On the other hand, the insertion loss difference between TTD lines was 0.32 ㏈ at maximum for a fixed radiation angle. The TTD structure proposed in this paper might be more reliable and economical than those previously proposed using tunable wavelength sources if proper power equalization either with gain control of RF amplifiers or variable attenuators is achieved.

Output Characteristics of a Pulsed Ti:sapphire Laser Oscillator Pumped Longitudinally by Second Harmonic Wave of Nd:YAG Laser and a Ti:sapphire Laser Amplifier Operated along the Single Path of the Oscillator Beam (Nd:YAG 레이저의 제 2조화파로 종여기하는 펄스형 Ti:sapphire 레이저 발진기와 이를 이용한 단일경로 형태의 Ti:sapphire 증폭기의 출력특성)

  • The various output characteristics of a pulsed Ti:sapphire laser oscillator with a plane-parallel resonator, pumped longitudinally by the second harmonic wave of a Nd:YAG laser, and the output of a Ti:sapphire laser amplifier operated along the single path of the oscillator beam were investigated and analyzed. In the case of the oscillator, we measured the spectrum, the pulse buildup time, the temporal duration time of the pulse, and the output energy according to the variation of the pumping energy, resonator length, and the reflectance of the output coupler. And, in the case of the amplifier, we investigated and analyzed the output energy of the amplifier as a function of the time difference between the two pump beams of the oscillator and the amplifier, the pumping energy of the oscillator, and the pumping energy of the amplifier When pump energies of both the oscillator and the amplifier were 18 mJ/pulse, we could find that the output energy of the amplifier increased linearly and gradually up to the time difference of 35 ns. Finally, we determined that the slope efficiencies of the oscillator and the amplifier were 23.5 % and 11.6 %, respectively.
