Near Infrared Laser Based on Polymer Waveguide Bragg Grating (폴리머 광도파로 브래그 격자 기반의 근적외선 레이저)

  • An external cavity laser operating at near infrared wavelength is demonstrated by incorporating polymer waveguide Bragg reflectors. 3rd order Bragg grating and oversized rip waveguide structure were designed by using the effective index method and the transmission matrix method. The polymer waveguide was fabricated using polymer materials with refractive indices of 1.462 and 1.435 for the core and the cladding layers, respectively. The external feedback laser with 875-nm Bragg grating exhibits single mode lasing located at 850-nm wavelength with an output power of 0 dBm, a 20-dB bandwidth of 0.2 nm and a side mode suppression ratio of 40 dB.

  • We have demonstrated a fiber short-wavelength filter with a good cut-off property using dissimilar dispersive properties between? a thermally expanded cored fiber and an external medium. Side-polishing is applied to coupling between the fiber and the external medium. The experimental results revealed that the bend edge wavelength can be adjusted by controlling the degree of core expansion. Futhermore, the sharpness of wavelength response? was significantly? improved by employing expanded core fiber instead of a conventional single mode fiber. Tuning range of the band edge wavelength exceeded 400 m based on thermo-optic effect of the external medium.

  • In this paper, we propose a synchronous reservation protocol that is efficient for supporting variable sized messages in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based local network using a passive star topology. A. control channel is used to coordinate transmission on data channels. Time is slotted with fixed-sized slots. The network can accommodate a variable number of nodes, and can operate independently of the change of the number of nodes. So, any 'new' node can join the network anytime without network re-initialization. Moreover, with the protocol, we can avoid data channel and destination conflicts. We analyze the performance by using EPA method according to the variation of the end to end propagation delay with respect to one slot time, and validate the results by simulation.

  • In this paper the spectra of correlated color temperature (CCT) tunable white light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires, consisting of commercial red, green, blue, and amber LED chips, were optimized to increase color rendering index (CRI), and a special CRI of R9 for deep red color was obtained. To improve the design's accuracy, measured LED spectra were used instead of mathematically modeled ones. Real CCT tunable LED luminaires with CRIs of 87-90 and R9s of 34-93 were fabricated and demonstrated at CCTs of 3000-6000 K.

  • Wavelength converting devices with a ridge-type waveguide in periodically poled $MgO:LiNbO_3$ are made and characterized. The experimental results are compared with theoretical analysis on the effects of waveguide dimension and duty ratio of the periodically poled structure. To show the relationship of the conversion efficiency to those factors, a new measurement system is configured. That experimental results show that the center wavelength, normalized conversion efficiency and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency curve are 1067.45 nm, 90.7%/$Wcm^2$ and 0.17 nm, respectively. Also, the estimated results of the duty period and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency from theoretical calculations agreed well with experimental results with the errors of 0.016 ${\mu}m$ and 0.01 nm.

  • In this paper, resonance frequencies of a reentrant cavity are computed by the mode matching method and the mode orthogonality. The reentrant cavity is composed of a coaxial cable and a cylindrical waveguide, so that resonance frequencies of the resonator can be varied by adjusting the length of the inner conductor of a coaxial cable. The result can be applied to numerous microwave devices such as klystron, wavemeter and resonant circuits of a amplifier and to the measurement of dielectric parameters.

  • 본 논문은 파장분할 다중화통신망에서 처리 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 분할된 제어 채널을 가진 프로토콜의 성능을 이론적으로 해석하였다. 시스템의 처리율과 지연특성은 제어 채널 충돌과 목적지 충돌에 많은 영향을 받는다. 이 프로토콜은 제어 채널을 경쟁 미니슬롯 영역과 비경쟁 미니슬롯 영역으로 분할하여 현재 타임 슬롯에서 예약되지 못한 패킷은 다음타임 슬롯의 비경쟁 미니슬롯 영역에 우선적으로 등록하여 제어 채너 결쟁과 목적지 충돌을 줄인다. 이영향으로 시스템의 처리율과 시스템 지연 특성이 개선된다. 해석에서 비경쟁 미니슬롯 영역의 최대 미니슬롯 수는 망의 데이터 채널 수와 동일한 범위 내에서 가변적으로 설정할 때 가장 좋은 특성을 얻을 수 있음을 보였다. 그리고 이 프로토콜이 트래픽의 종류와 관계없이 시스템 지연 특성과 처리율을 향상시키는데 유용함을 확인하였다.

  • We demonstrate a wavelength swept mode-locked ring laser for the frequency domain optical coherence tomography(FD OCT). A laser is constructed by using a semiconductor optical amplifier, fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter and 2.6 km fiber ring cavity. Mode-locking is implemented by 2.6 km fiber ring cavity for matching the fundamental or harmonic of cavity roundtrip time to a sweep period. The wavelength sweeps are repetitively generated with the repetition period of 77.2 kHz which is the parallel resonance frequency of Fabry-Perot tunable filter for the low driving current consumption of the fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter. The wavelength tuning range of the laser is more than FWHM of 61 nm centered at the wavelength of 1320 nm and the linewidth of the source is $0.014{\pm}0.002$ nm.
