Shot Change Detection Technique Using Adaptive Threshold Setting Method on Variable Reference Block and Implementation on PMP (가변 참조 구간에서의 적응적 임계값 설정 방법을 이용한 장면 전환 검출 기술과 PMP에서의 구현)

  • Shot change detection is the main technique in the video segmentation which requirs real-time processing and automatical processing in hardware. Until now, there were few research reports about real-time shot change detection for applying to hardware terminals with low performance such as PMPs(Portable Media Player) and cellular phones. In this paper, we propose shot change detection technique using adaptive threshold setting method on variable reference block. Our proposed algorithm determines shot change detection by comparing the feature value of current frame and a mean of a feature value on variable reference blocks. The proposed method can be used independently from the feature value of frame, can adaptively set thresholds using a mean of a feature value on variable reference blocks. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by precision 0.146, recall 0.083, F1 0.089 in the experiment with the same test sequences. We verified real-time operation of shot change detection by implementing our algorithm on the PMP from some company of H. Therefore, our proposing algorithm will be helpful in searching video data on portable media players such as PMPs and cellular phones.

  • Shot change detection is an important technique for effective management of video data, so detection scheme requires adaptive detection techniques to be used actually in various video. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using the mean of feature value on variable reference blocks. Our algorithm determines shot change detection by defining adaptive threshold values with the feature value extracted from video frames and comparing the feature value and the threshold value. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We also had good detection ratio for other several methods of feature extraction and could see realtime operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance was possible by implementing it in TVUS model of HOMECAST company. Thus, our algerian in the paper can be useful in PMP(portable multimedia player) or other portable players.

  • Almost all existing inspection methods for catenary system have relied on dedicated track inspection cars. Two factors make it necessary to modify the conventional method: First, the climate has become increasingly similar to that of a subtropical area. In addition, high speed trains have been developed that can run as fast as 450Km/h. This paper presents a visual catenary inspection system structure that incorporates roadbed information for high-speed running environments. Conventional catenary inspection systems determined the degree of wearing only for the trolley wire. The facility inspection system presented in this paper on the other hand utilizes visual and sound data of inspection targets and adjusts inspection frequency and sensitivity depending on the geographic data.

  • 장면 전환 검출은 대용량 비디오 데이터의 효과적인 관리를 위해서 사용되는 기술로서 현재까지 비디오 프레임의 크기를 대폭 축소시킨 환경에서의 연구는 미미하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 비디오 프레임의 최소 화소를 이용한 장면 전환 검출 기술을 제안한다. 장면 전환 검출을 위한 특징값 추출 요소로 가중치 분산을 사용하였고, 가변 구간 참조를 통한 적응적인 임계값을 설정하였다. 실험을 통해서 기존의 방법들보다 precision에서 2~20.4%, recall에서 3~18.2%, F1에서 1.1~19.3% 향상된 것을 확인하였고, 비디오 데이터 화소수를 1/256로 축소하여 실험한 결과 기존의 방법들보다 검출률이 월등하게 향상된 것을 알 수 있었다. 제안하는 방법은 계산량 감소를 통한 고속 처리를 가능하게 하여 다양한 소프트웨어 및 하드웨어 플랫폼에서의 고속 장면 전환 검출에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

Emprical Tests of Braess Paradox (The Case of Namsan 2nd Tunnel Shutdown) (브라이스역설에 대한 실증적 검증 (남산2호터널 폐쇄사례를 중심으로))

  • The Purpose of this study is to test whether Braess Paradox (BP) can be revealed in a real world network. Fer the study, Namsan 2nd tunnel case is chosen, which was shut down for 3 years for repair works. The revelation of BP is determined by analyzing network-wise traffic impacts followed by the tunnel closure. The analysis is conducted using a network simulation model called SECOMM developed for the congestion management of the Seoul metropolitan area. Also, the existence of BP is further identified by a before-after traffic survey result of the major arterials nearby the Namsan 2nd tunnel. The model estimation expected that the closure of Namsan 2nd tunnel improve the network-wise average traffic speed from 21.95km/h to 22.21km/h when the travel demand in the study area and congestion Pricing scheme on Namsan 1st & 3rd tunnels remain unchanged. In addition, the real world monitoring results of the corridors surrounding Namsan 2nd tunnel show that the average speed increases from 29.53km/h to 30.37km/h after the closure. These findings clearly identify the BP Phenomenon is revealed in this case.
