The Effects of Die Design and Die Series on the Surface Residual Stress of Cold Drawn Eutectoid Steel Wire (고탄소강 와이어의 냉간 인발 시 다이 디자인과 다이 시리즈가 표면 잔류 응력에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the die design and die series on the surface residual stress of cold drawn eutectoid steel wire have been investigated. Test pieces were fabricated using die series with different mean and final reduction ratios. Surface residual stresses in the axial direction were measured by X-ray diffraction, Bruker's 2-dimensional GADDS system. The results were compared with stress profiles that were calculated by 3D and 2D finite element simulations, ABAQUS 6.4 program in finite element analysis(FEA). By means of the FEA method, optimal die shape considering delta-parameter were induced and applied in order to determine die sequence designs. Balance of the drawing stresses was also introduced to optimize die sequence.

  • Thermoplastic elastormer (TPE) has many advantages such as high flexibility, high elasticity and high elongation, etc. TPE is easily molded such as plastic materials, therefore, many TPE parts are applied as home appliances and mechanical parts. However, if TPE is once molded, its mechanical properties are changed by injection molding conditions such as melt temperature, mold temperature, injection pressure and holding pressure, etc. In this study, the influences of the injection molding condition on the mechanical properties of thermoplastic vulcanizates(TPVs), which is one of the TPE, were investigated. By the injection molding experiment, as increasing the melt temperature, the tensile strength, shrinkage and hardness decreased. By the scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyzing the TPVs' crystallization, the morphology was affected by the melt temperature.

  • The residual stress in axial direction of the steel wires has been measured by using a method based on the combination of the focused ion beam(FIB) milling and digital image correlation(DIC) program. The residual stress is calculated from the measured displacement field before and after the introduction of a slot along the steel wires. The displacement is obtained by the digital correlation analysis of high-resolution scanning electron micrographs, while the slot is introduced by FIB milling with low energy beam. The experimental procedures are described and the feasibilities are demonstrated in steel wires fabricated with different conditions. It reveals that the tensile residual stress is formed in all steel wires and this is strongly influenced by the fabrication conditions.

  • The governing parameters affecting the fatigue properties have been investigated experimentally in the high carbon steel wires with 0.94 wt.%C. In order to find the crucial factors, the advanced analysis techniques such as optical 3-D profiler, focused ion beam(FIB) and transmission electron microscope(TEM) were used. The two-type steel wires with different drawing strain were fabricated. The fatigue properties were measured by hunter rotating beam tester, specially designed for thin-sized steel wires. It was found that the fatigue properties of the steel wires with high drawing strain was higher than that with other wires because of low residual stress and high adhesion condition of brass coating layer.

  • In previous researches, it is reported that Ti-10Ta-10Nb is robuster than Ti-6A1-4V which is used as a biomaterial in a experiment of cytotoxicity. Ti-10Ta-10Nb has enough hardness to be required as a biomaterial because the change of its hardness can be controlled more than 100% according to heat treatment condition and manufacturing condition. There are many hardness changing condition including Cast Homogenization, Solution treatment. Forging, Rolling in this research. The changing form and amount of new Ti-10Ta-10Nb to be developed in this researches, are measured as quantitative. Specially, the changing hardness amount of the specimen that is manufactured in single phase temperature, i.e. 80$0^{\circ}C$, are measured in case of high temperature rolling and high temperature cast condition.

  • In order to establish the standard manufacturing condition of PET flame retardant sheets, physicochetnical properties of the samples made by the conventional flame-retardant finishing were systematically investigated, including compatibility among flame retardant agent and finishing auxiliaries, surface property, and wicking property. From this results, the addition of washing and renapping process after the shearing process was required for the more effective in producing PET flame-retardant sheet by the standard finishing. The effect of the modification of the regular flame retardant finishing process was studied by FTIR, TGA, and flame retardancy test.

  • Decapsulation of EMC(Epoxy Molding Compound) in package device is a method used to inspect inside of device by removing plastic molding. So far, chemical etching and mechanical grinding methods have been used widely. Recently, several works using laser have been carried out. This method has advantages with fast process time and precision than conventional methods because of noncontact process. Also, laser process is a clean process because of removing EMC directly without using toxic chemicals. The wavelength of laser used in this study is 355nm. Key parameters of removing EMC are laser power, scan speed, and number of scans of laser. It if confirmed that laser decapsulation is a useful process to inspect inside a device with a small thermal damage to chip surface.

Determination of Optimal Blank Diameter for the High Precision of Spindle Screw (고정도 Spindle Screw 전조공정에서의 최적 소재경 선정)

  • This paper describes the numerical determination of optimum blank diameter for sound material flow and high precise thread profile of a spindle screw through external thread rolling using two-three roll dies. Initial blank diameter affects the dimensional accuracy and surface finish qualities of a spindle screw in thread rolling process, therefore it is very important to determine the optimum blank diameter in thread rolling process. In order to determine the optimum blank diameter, this paper suggests the calculation method of initial bland diameter considering the real shape of tooth. The finite element code DEFORM is applied to analyze the metal flow of tooth, and these analytical results are verified by thread rolling experiment for spindle screw.

  • Polycrystalline materials such as steels(BCC) and aluminum alloys(FCC) show the strain hardening and the strain rate hardening during the plastic deformation. The strain hardening is induced by deformation resistance of dislocation glide on some crystallographic systems and increase of the dislocation density on grain boundaries or inner grain. However, the phenomenon of the strain rate hardening is not demonstrated distinctly. In this paper, tensile tests for various strain rates are performed in the rage of $10^{-2}$ to $10^2s^{-1}$ then, specimens are extracted on the same strain position to investigate the microscopic behavior of deformed materials. The extracted specimen is investigated by using the electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) results which contain grain size, grain shape, aspect ratio and dislocation substructure.

  • It's important to measure quantitative properties about thermal-nano variation conduct of polymer for producing high quality components using NIL process. NanoScale indents can be used ad cells for molecular electronics and drug deliver, slots for integration into nanodevices, and defects for tailoring the structure and properties. In this study, it's to evaluate mechanical characteristic of polymer such as PMMA and PC at high temperature for manufacture of nano/micro size of polymer using indenter at high temperature. At high temperature mechanical properties of polymer have extreme variation. Because heating the polymer, it becomes softer than room temperature. In this case it is especially important to study for mechanical properties of polymer at high temperature.
