  • In this paper, we propose a non-convex compressed sensing(NCCS)-based channel state information(CSI) feedback scheme for massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems. Combining the random vector quantization(RVQ), the proposed scheme permits a transmitter to obtain CSI with acceptable accuracy under substantially reduced feedback load. Furthermore, it recovers CSI from fewer measurements than that of existing convex compressed sensing(CCS)-based schemes even if the measurements are inaccurate and incomplete. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher throughput than both existing CCS-based feedback scheme and random vector quantization(RVQ) feedback scheme with the same feedback load.

  • Space-Time Block Code(STBC) provides full diversity gains with simple linear processing at the receiver. Interference Cancellation(IC) techniques in system using STBC improve the capacity and performance of wireless systems with co-channel users. Various IC techniques, Minimum Mean-Squared Error(MMSE) and Zero-Forcing(ZF) algorithms in system with STBC were proposed in the literatures in multiuser environment. The performance of these IC techniques were simulated by assuming perfect channel state information(CSI) of multiuser at the receiver. However, in practice it is difficult to know perfect CSI of multiuser at the receiver. Thus, channel estimation scheme is essential at the receiver. Also SNR estimation scheme is required to operate the MMSE IC algorithm. In this paper, we present estimation schemes of CSI and SNR using training sequences. Through extensive computer simulation, we compare and evaluate the performance of IC techniques using the proposed CSI and SNR estimation techniques.

  • Objective: This study identified the major lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains from different fermented total mixed rations (FTMRs) via metataxonomic analysis and evaluated the ability of their standard strain as ensiling inoculants for corn stover silage. Methods: The bacterial composition of eight FTMRs were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing. Corn stover was ensiled without LAB inoculation (control) or with 1×106 cfu/g LAB standard strain (Lactobacillus vaginalis, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus helveticus, or Lactobacillus paralimentarius) selected from the FTMRs or 10 g/t commercial silage inoculant (CSI) around 25℃ for 56 days. For each inoculation, a portion of the silage was sampled to analyze ensiling characteristics at time intervals of 0, 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, and 56 days, gas production (GP), microbial crude protein and volatile fatty acids as the measurements of rumen fermentation characteristics were evaluated in vitro with the silages of 56 days after 72 h incubation. Results: Lactobacillus covered >85% relative abundance of all FTMRs, in which L. pontis, L. vaginalis, L. reuteri, L. helveticus, and L. paralimentarius showed >4% in specific FTMRs. CSI, L. helveticus, and L. paralimentarius accelerated the decline of silage pH. Silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius and CSI produced more lactic acid the early 14 days. Silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius produced less acetic acid and butyric acid. For the in vitro rumen fermentation, silage inoculated with CSI produced more potential GP, isobutyric acid, and isovaleric acid; silage inoculated with L. helveticus produced more potential GP and isovaleric acid, silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius or L. reuteri produced more potential GP only. Conclusion: The standard strain L. paralimentarius (DSM 13238) is a promising ensiling inoculant for corn stover silage. The findings provide clues on strategies to select LAB to improve the quality of silage.

  • In this study, we suggest an empirical forecast of CIR (Corotating Interaction Regions) and geomagnetic storm based on the information of coronal holes (CH). For this we used CH data obtained from He I $10830{\AA}$ maps at National Solar Observatory-Kitt Peak from January 1996 to November 2003 and the CIR and storm data that Choi et al. (2009) identified. Considering the relationship among coronal holes, CIRs, and geomagnetic storms (Choi et al. 2009), we propose the criteria for geoeffective coronal holes; the center of CH is located between $N40^{\circ}$ and $S40^{\circ}$ and between $E40^{\circ}$ and $W20^{\circ}$, and its area in percentage of solar hemispheric area is larger than the following areas: (1) case 1: 0.36%, (2) case 2: 0.66%, (3) case 3: 0.36% for 1996-2000, and 0.66% for 2001-2003. Then we present contingency tables between prediction and observation for three cases and their dependence on solar cycle phase. From the contingency tables, we determined several statistical parameters for forecast evaluation such as PODy (the probability of detection yes), FAR (the false alarm ratio), Bias (the ratio of "yes" predictions to "yes" observations) and CSI (critical success index). Considering the importance of PODy and CSI, we found that the best criterion is case 3; CH-CIR: PODy=0.77, FAR=0.66, Bias=2.28, CSI=0.30. CH-storm: PODy=0.81, FAR=0.84, Bias=5.00, CSI=0.16. It is also found that the parameters after the solar maximum are much better than those before the solar maximum. Our results show that the forecasting of CIR based on coronal hole information is meaningful but the forecast of goemagnetic storm is challenging.

  • The performance of a MIMO system with adaptive modulation (AM) and space-time coding over Ricean fading channels for perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) is presented. The fading gain value is partitioned into a number of regions by which the modulation is adapted according to the region the fading gain falls in. Under a target bit error rate (BER) constraint, the switching thresholds for AM are given. Based on these results, we derive the calculation formulae of the theoretical spectrum efficiency (SE) and average BER. As a result, closed-form SE expression and accurate BER expression are respectively obtained. Besides, using the approximation of complementary error function, a tightly closed-form approximation of average BER is also derived to simplify the calculation of accurate theoretical BER. Computer simulation shows that the theoretical SE and BER are in good agreement with the corresponding simulation, and the approximate BER is also close to the accurate one. The results show that the AM scheme in Ricean fading channel provides better SE than that in Rayleigh fading channel due to the direct-path propagation, and has performance degradation in SE and BER for imperfect CSI.

  • Block diagonalization (BD) has been proposed as a simple and effective technique in multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) broadcast channels. However, when channel state information (CSI) knowledge is limited at the transmitter, the performance of the BD may be degraded because inter-user interference cannot be completely eliminated. In this paper, we propose an efficient CSI quantization technique for BD precoded systems with limited feedback where users supported by a base station are selected by dynamic scheduling. First, we express the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) when multiple data streams are transmitted to the user, and derive a lower bound expression of the expected received SINR at each user. Then, based on this measure, each user determines its quantized CSI feedback information which maximizes the derived expected SINR, which comprises both the channel direction and the amplitude information. From simulations, we confirm that the proposed SINR-based channel quantization scheme achieves a significant sum rate gain over the conventional method in practical MU-MIMO systems.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a Coping Scale for Infertility-Women (CSI-W). Methods: The initial items were based on an extensive literature review and in-depth interviews with seven infertile women. Forty-three items were derived from a pilot survey. Data were collected from 216 women who had experienced intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilization (IVF) more than once. The data were analyzed to verify the reliability and validity of the scale. Results: Seven factors containing 28 items (four factors containing 17 items for active coping and three factors containing 11 items for passive coping) were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis to verify the construct validity. The four factors of active coping were confrontation, self-control, seeking social support (spouse), and seeking social support (colleagues and experts). The three factors of passive coping were distancing, escape, and avoidance. These items were verified through convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validity testing. The internal consistency reliability was acceptable (active coping: Cronbach's α = .78; passive coping: Cronbach's α = .81). Conclusion: As its validity and reliability have been verified through various methods, the CSI-W can contribute to assessing the coping strategies of infertile women.

  • Cooperative communications among users in multiple access wireless environments is an efficient way to obtain the powerful benefits of multi-antenna systems without the demand for physical arrays. This paper proposes a solution to optimize the weights of partnering users' signals for the minimum error probability at the output of maximum likelihood (ML) detector under the transmit power constraints by taking advantage of channel state information (CSI) feedback from the receiver to the transmitter. Simulation programs are also established to evaluate the performance of the system under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).

  • In this letter, the performance of the interference channel with continuously varying channel is evaluated by using interference alignment based on practical channel estimation and channel state information(CSI) feedback and ideal Doppler frequency estimation. In this paper, performance evaluation is performed in terms of sum rate for 3-user interference channel. And also, sum rate is measured according to frequency of channel estimation relating with the calculation complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional one which assumes that the channel is constant in a frame in some circumstances.

  • Human activity recognition is widely used in smart homes, health care and indoor monitor. Traditional approaches all need hardware installation or wearable sensors, which incurs additional costs and imposes many restrictions on usage. Therefore, this paper presents a novel device-free activities recognition system based on the advanced wireless technologies. The fine-grained information channel state information (CSI) in the wireless channel is employed as the indicator of human activities. To improve accuracy, both amplitude and phase information of CSI are extracted and shaped into feature vectors for activities recognition. In addition, we discuss the classification accuracy of different features and select the most stable features for feature matrix. Our experimental evaluation in two laboratories of different size demonstrates that the proposed scheme can achieve an average accuracy over 95% and 90% in different scenarios.
