Purpose: This study examined the impacts of action observational physical training related to stair walking on the stair walking ability and self-efficacy of chronic stroke patients. Methods: This study was conducted on 24 chronic stroke patients, who were assigned randomly to an action observational physical training group (12 persons) and a landscape observation physical training group (12 persons). To the action-observational physical training group, five videos related to stair walking were presented, and after observing them, physical training was carried out. The landscape observation physical training group observed the videos consisting of landscape, where there were no humans and animals, and then underwent physical training. This study measured the rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, and gastrocnemius to examine the muscle activity of the lower limb. A timed up and go and step test was performed to examine the balance ability, and a timed stair test was conducted to examine their stair walking ability. A self-efficacy scale was measured to examine the degree of their confidence of performing stair walking. The assessment was conducted three times in total: pre-, post-, and follow-up surveys. Results: As a result of this study, the action observational physical training group significant improvement after the intervention than in the landscape observation physical training group. Moreover, the follow-up study four weeks after the intervention showed significant improvements in the action observational physical training group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results show that the action observational physical training had a positive impact on the stair walking ability and self-efficacy of chronic stroke patients.
Background: In the rehabilitation of stroke patients, regular physical activity is very important not only as a treatment for maximal functional recovery but also as a strategy to prevent the recurrence of stroke. The purpose of this study was to objectively measure the amount of physical activity in people with stroke, and to examine the differences in motor and cognitive function according to a level of physical activity. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: Physical activity (GENEActiv), motor function (Fugl-Meyer Assessment), cognitive function (Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Korean version), and the Korean version of Modified Barthel Index were evaluated in adult stroke patients with hemiplegia. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the level of physical activity according to the motor and cognitive function. There was no statistically significant difference in motor and cognitive function according to the level of physical activity, but there was a statistically significant difference in the MBI (p<.01). Conclusion: As a result of the difference in the MBI according to the level of physical activity, it was found that the more moderate to vigorous physical activities are performed, the higher the independence in daily living. These results can be interpreted as that the more often you participate in physical activities such as physical therapy (gait training), the better your independence in ADL. Since regular physical activity participation of adult stroke patients can improve daily living performance, it is considered necessary to participate in physical activities such as continuous physical therapy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of transverse abdominis ratio and balance ability during bridge exercises on different support surface. Methods: The subjects were 20 students at G University. Ultrasound equipment was used to measure the transverse abdominisratio and the computerized balance measurement equipment was used to measure the balance ability before and after bridge exercises on different support surface. Results: Transverse abdominis ratio change between the groups was a significant difference only in the unstable support surface training group (p<.05). Normal standing eye close balance ability change between the groups was significantly different only in the unstable support surface training group (p<.05). The changes in the transverse abdominis ratio after 7 days of exercise and 14 days after exercise were significantly different between the groups (p<.05). Normal standing eye close balance ability showed a significant difference at 7 days after exercise and 14 days after exercise (p<.05). Conclusions: It is more effective to balance ability and ratio of the transverse abdominis when bridge exercises on an unstable support surface than to perform bridge exercises on a stable support surface. Therefore, we propose an effective program for patients with instability of the lumbar in clinical practice. bridge exercises on different support surface.
Objectives: This study aims to define the relationships between the sensory, cognitive and physical functions of young-old and old-old individuals. Methods: Participants were 10,451 elderly individuals aged 65 and above, raw data of a 2014 National Survey on Korean Older Persons was used. To investigate the relationships among the sensory, cognitive, and physical functions, a structural equation model was used. Results: The key analysis results are summarized as follows; 5% had poor vision function(young-old 3.5%, old-old 7.1%), 3.8% had poor auditory function(young-old 1.7%, old-old 6.7%), 33.0% had decline in cognitive function(young-old 30.9%, old-old 35.7%), 3.6% were disabled(young-old 1.6%, old-old 6.3%) and cognitive function influences physical function more greatly than does sensory function. Additionally, in the young-old groups, vision among sensory functions, attention among cognitive functions, and IADL among physical functions, turned out to be the most influential. However, in the old-old groups, auditory function among sensory functions, orientation among cognitive functions, and IADL among physical functions, turned out to be the most influential. Conclusions: This study implies that functions in the young-old and old-old individuals must be considered with all three functions-sensory, cognitive, and physical-together at the same time and that this comprehensive approach is necessary in national policy making.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of physical activity and its relationships with depression, health-related quality of life (QoL), sleep disturbance, and physiological indicators in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The participants in this study were 139 patients undergoing hemodialysis in the hospitals in Busan and Yangsan-si. Data were collected using hematologic tests and questionnaires that contained items about individual characteristics, International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ), Center For Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), a 12-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA, and correlation. Results: Mean age of the participants was $59.91{\pm}12.63$ and mean physical activity levels were $1,660.35{\pm}1,654.17$. Patients who performed higher physical activities during their daily activities reported lower levels of depression (F=4.16, p=.018) and higher levels of QOL (PCS: F=5.00, p=.008, MCS: F=8.66, p<.001) than those of the others who did not perform physical activities. Conclusion: This study showed that the levels of physical activity among hemodialysis patients was significantly associated with their depression and QOL. Developing strategies for enhancing physical activity is warranted to improve depression and QOL among hemodialysis patients.
This study was conducted to investigate the changes diseases of physical therapy patient. Through the analysis, of total 2,902 cases in one university hospital and one general hospital in Taegu, of which 1,619 cases for 1989 and 1,283 cases for 1981. The physical records were analyzed in terms of sex, age, pattern in PT diseases, fee, and medical department of PT. The international classification of Diseases, 9th revision was used fer the study. Major results are as follows : 1. The ratio of male me female nae 1.51 to 1 in 1989, 1.53 to 1 in 1991. The proportion of the elderly over 60 was $15.6\%$ in 1989, $22.0\%$ in 1989. And the age groups of 50-59 years ranked the first an years. 2. As to the PT patients of medical department, Orthopaedics$(50.3\%)$, Neurosurgery$(28.1\%)$. Neuromedicine$(8.0\%)$. Plastic surgery$(4.4\%)$, and Dentry$(3.2\%)$ in that order in 1989. On the other hand, Orthopaedics$(51.2\%)$, Neurosurgery$(22.1\%)$, Neuromedicine$(9.6\%)$, Plastic surgery$(6.5\%)$, and Internal medicine$(6.5\%)$ in that order in 1991. 3. No significant difference was observed by season of PT patients, but winter (December, January and February) ranked the first all years. 4. No significant difference was observed changes in diseases as for the 56 international classification of diseases of PT patients, Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue occupied the largest proportion all years. Fractures increased from $21.4\%$ in 1989, $24.5\%$ in 1991. On the other hand, Diseases of the nervous system remarkably increased from $8.9\%$ in 1989, $19.7\%$ in 1991.
Purpose: This study examined the effects of a physical stability exercise program on the functional movement and balance of middle school volleyball players to provide future management and training data to improve the performance of volleyball players. Methods: The subjects were 20 volleyball players from Y Middle School in Mokpo. The results of comparing and analyzing the effects of the physical stability exercise program on the functional movement and balance of middle school volleyball players for 10 weeks are as follows. Results: The number of participants who showed power and agility (p<0.01) was increased significantly, and the response time was shortened significantly (p<0.01). On the evaluation of functional movement, the total score showed a significant difference between the pre-test at 10.90±1.30 points and the post-test at 13.81±.60 (p<0.001). The subjects' balance showed a significant difference from 84.11±7.53 to 97.65±8.47 (p<0.001), and the Right Composite Score showed a significant difference from 83.74±6.64 to 97.27±8.48 (p<0.001). Conclusion: The application of a physical stability exercise program for 10 weeks is effective in improving the speed, agility, functional movement, and balance to volleyball players who are weakened and at risk of injury. This is believed to prevent or reduce injury.

Purpose: This study was done to investigate quality of sleep and heart rate variability by the physical activity in high school students. Methods: A survey that measures physical activity and quality of sleep was distributed to 118 students at Y High School. Heart rate variability was obtained using the LXC3203 heart rate monitor. The data of 105 students were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, x2-test, and ANOVA with $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. Results: Boys and students with part-time jobs had significantly higher physical activity. The quality of sleep was significantly high when the students were non-smokers, felt healthy, happy, less stressed, and satisfied with their school lives. Mean heart rate was significantly higher among girls, and standard deviation from normal to normal R-R intervals were high in boys. Physical activity had no significant relationships with quality of sleep and heart rate variability. Conclusions: Physical activity should be encouraged for high school students, especially for girls. An experimental study with different intensity and time of physical activity is recommended to examine the relationships with quality of sleep and heart rate variability in the future.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of IASTM and static stretching techniques on ankle joint range of motion (ROM), static foot pressure. Methods: Twenty four subjects with gastrocnemius shortness participated in this study. The subjects were assigned randomly to one of two groups: The soft tissue mobilization technique (IASTM) group received intervention using a IASTM instrument for two minutes, and the stactic stretching group performed self stretching for 30 seconds, four times. The ROM of the ankle joint was measured by active ankle dorsi-flexion test, and a TPScan was utilized to collect the plantar foot pressure. This experiment was performed by two physical therapists. The significant level was set at ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: The results were as follows: 1) The ROM of the ankle joint and was significantly increased in both groups. 2) Plantar foot pressure was no significant in both groups. 3) There were no significant differences between the IASTM group and static stretching group for any variable. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that static stretching is an effective and easy technique for restoring proper muscle length in subjects with gastrocnemius shortness. We recommend that static stretching technique be used for treat gastrocnemius shortness in clinical setting and home program.

The purpose of this study was to investigate difference of Physical Activity and Sedentary Life according to Health and Obesity status. A total of 4,783 adults participated in this study. The subjects were divided to four group(metabolically healthy normal weight; MHNW, metabolically unhealthy normal weight; MUNW, metabolically healthy obesity; MHO, metabolically unhealthy obesity; MUO) and analyzed clinical character, physical activity, and sedentary life time. As results, Compared with MHNW, MHO was higher physical activity and sedentary time but there was no notable differences. Compared with MHNW, MUNW was higher physical activity and lower sedentary time but there was no notable differences. Compared with MUNW, MHO was lower physical activity and sedentary time but there was no notable differences. In conclusion, we suggest that MHO has high physical activity comparing nomal weight group relatively.
