  • The projectile afterbodies for zero-lift drag reduction has been analyzed using the Navier-Stokes equations with the $\kappa-\epsilon$ turbulence model. The numerical method of a second order upwind scheme has been used on unstructured adaptive meshes. Base drag reduction methods that have been found effective on axisymmetric bodies include boattailing, base bleed, base comustion, locked vortex afterbodies and multistep afterbodies. In this paper, the charateristics of turbulence flow have been studied for geomeries of multistep afterbodies. The important geometrical and flow parameters relevant to the design of such afterbodies have been identified by number, length and height of step. The flow over multistep afterbodies has been analyzed including expansion waves, recompression waves, recirculating flow, shear flow and wake flow. The numerical results have been compared and analyzed with the experimental datum.

  • Two-dimensional steady flowfields generated by slot injection into supersonic flow are numerically simulated by the integration of Navier-stokes equation with two-equation $\kappa-\epsilon$ turbulence model. High-order upwind scheme is used on unstructured adaptive meshes. The numerical results are compared with experimental data in terms of surface static pressure distributions, the length of the upstream separation region, and the height of the Mach surface for steady flowfields with a Mach number of 3.71 and a unit Reynolds number of $5.83\times10^6/m$.

  • Mathematical modeling and numerical calculation on the flow and thermal characteristics induced by fire in a partial enclosure are performed. The solution procedures include the Shvab-Zeldovich approximation for the physical transport equations, low Reynolds number k-.epsilon. model for the turbulent fluid flow and Discrete Ordinate method(DOM) to calculate the radiative heat transfer. PMMA(Polymethylmethacrylate) is adopted as a solid fuel. Two different cases are considered : combustions with and without gas radiation occuring in a open cavity for variable pyrolyzing location of PMMA. When the fire source is located at the left-wall, the flow region of flame gas is limited at the left-wall and ceiling and recirculation region of inlet gas is formulated at neat the floor. In case of neglecting the radiative heat transfer, more large flame size and higher temperature is predicted. It is essential to consider the radiative heat transfer for analysis of fire phenomenon.

  • Leak Before Break(LBB) design concept is applied to piping systems of newly-built Yonggwang 3, 4 nuclear generating stations as a design alternative to the provision of pipe whip restraints, in recognition of the questionable benefits of providing such restraints. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the material properties (tensile and fracture toughness) of SA312 TP316 stainless steel and their associated welds manufactured for shutdown cooling system of Yonggwang 3, 4 nuclear generating stations. Effect of various parameters such as specimen orientation, test temperature, welding on material properties were examined.

  • In the present work, nozzle shape of a jet fan is optimized numerically using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis. Standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model is used as a turbulence closure. Response surface method is employed as an optimization technique. The objective function is defined as maximum throw distance. Three geometric variables, i.e., length and angle of nozzle, and interval between two nozzles, are selected as design variables. As the main result of the optimization, the throw distance has been improved effectively.

  • Mechanical behavior of copper nanowire is investigated. An FCC nanowire model composed of 1,408 atoms is used for MD simulation. Simulations are performed within NVT ensemble setting without periodic boundary conditions. $Nos\acute{e}-Poincar\acute{e}$ MD algorithm is employed to guarantee preservation of Hamiltonian and temperature. Numerical tensile tests of Nanowire are carried out with constant strain rate. Additionally, temperature and strain rate effects are considered. Stress-strain curve is constructed from the calculated Cauchy stresses and specified strain values. In (22,4,4) Copper nanowire, non-linear behavior appears around ${\epsilon}\simeq0.09.$ At this instance, starting of structural reorientations are observed. At the onset of reorientation, the modulus characteristics are also investigated.

  • Present work was focused on the influence of methylcellulose (MC) on steady rheology of wheat gliadin solution and the properties of glycerol plasticized gliadin films. The presence of MC below 0.99 wt% improved viscosity and flow activation energy of the 10 wt% gliadin solution significantly. In the casting films containing 0.2 g glycerol/g dry protein, the MC component aggregated in the gliadin matrix. The blend films containing less than 7.7 wt% MC exhibited higher Young's modulus (E) and tensile strength (${\sigma}_b$) and lower elongation at break (${\epsilon}_b$) in comparison with the pure gliadin film, which was related to the intermolecular interaction between MC and gliadins, the brittle fracture of the aggregated MC component, and the increase in glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the gliadin phase. Increasing MC content led to a slight increase in water vapor permeability (WVP) without significant influence on the moisture absorption (MA).

  • For a positive square-free integer $d$, let $t_d$ and $u_d$ be positive integers such that ${\epsilon}_d=\frac{t_d+u_d{\sqrt{d}}}{\sigma}$ is the fundamental unit of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})$, where ${\sigma}=2$ if $d{\equiv}1$ (mod 4) and ${\sigma}=1$ otherwise For a given positive integer $l$ and a palindromic sequence of positive integers $a_1$, ${\ldots}$, $a_{l-1}$, we define the set $S(l;a_1,{\ldots},a_{l-1})$ := {$d{\in}\mathbb{Z}|d$ > 0, $\sqrt{d}=[a_0,\overline{a_1,{\ldots},2a_0}]$}. We prove that $u_d$ < $d$ for all square-free integer $d{\in}S(l;a_1,{\ldots},a_{l-1})$ with one possible exception and apply it to Ankeny-Artin-Chowla conjecture and Mordell conjecture.

  • q-Volkenborn integrals ([8]) and fermionic invariant q-integrals ([12]) are introduced by T. Kim. By using these integrals, Euler q-zeta functions are introduced by T. Kim ([18]). Then, by using the Euler q-zeta functions, S.-H. Rim, S. J. Lee, E. J. Moon, and J. H. Jin ([25]) studied q-Genocchi zeta functions. And also Y. H. Kim, W. Kim, and C. S. Ryoo ([7]) investigated twisted q-zeta functions and their applications. In this paper, we consider the q-analogue of twisted Lerch type Euler zeta functions defined by $${\varsigma}E,q,\varepsilon(s)=[2]q \sum\limits_{n=0}^\infty\frac{(-1)^n\epsilon^nq^{sn}}{[n]_q}$$ where 0 < q < 1, $\mathfrak{R}$(s) > 1, $\varepsilon{\in}T_p$, which are compared with Euler q-zeta functions in the reference ([18]). Furthermore, we give the q-extensions of the above twisted Lerch type Euler zeta functions at negative integers which interpolate twisted q-Euler polynomials.

  • Wind load and responses are the major factors which govern the design norms of tall buildings. Corner modification is one of the most commonly used minor shape modification measure which significantly reduces the wind load and responses. This study presents a comparison of wind load and pressure distribution on different corner modified (chamfered and rounded) Y plan shaped buildings. The numerical study is done by ANSYS CFX. Two turbulence models, k-epsilon and Shear Stress Transport (SST), are used in the simulation of the building and the data are compared with the previous experimental results in a similar flow condition. The variation of the flow patterns, distribution of pressure over the surfaces, force and moment coefficients are evaluated and the results are represented graphically to understand the extent of nonconformities due to corner modifications. Rounded corner shape is proving out to be more efficient in comparing to chamfered corner for wind load reduction. The maximum reduction in the maximum force and moment coefficient is about 21.1% and 19.2% for 50% rounded corner cut.
