We analyze respondents' reaction to Obama's advertisement, titled 'Fix the Economy'. These respondents are divided into three groups of democratic party, republican party and independent group. By manipulating the skin complexion of the Obama photo, participants were either exposed to the dark or light version of the Obama photograph. In order to obtain decorrelated stationary data, we have applied the discrete Fourier transform to each curve and then we have applied Fan (1998)'s adaptive Neyman test to the discrete Fourier transformed data. As a result, a significant difference is found out only in the independent group.

The cutaneous xanthophore differentiation from larvae to adult in Bombina orientalis-the Korean fire bellied toad-is studied with light and electron microscopes. General structure of adult xanthophore which is composed of many pterinosomes and a small quantity of carotenoid vesicles is forming chromatophore complex with other dermal pigment cells. And the cytoplasmic process of xanthophore is distributed just beneath the basement membrane. The first differentiated xanthophore is originated from both rER rich cells and Golgi complex rich cells before and after the feeding larval stage. Formation of the pigment granule is proceeded gradually along the sequental metamorphic stages. After the metamorphosis, rapid multiplication of pterinosome is observed and enlargement of carotenoid vesicle is appeared after hybernation. These pigment granules are seen several structures by the differentiated level.

External morphological characteristics of male and female of Degeeria separata, which was endoparasited in adult of the Asian ladybird, were studied by using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The antenna of Degeeria separata was consisted of three segment and arista. Aristae were about $750{\mu}m$ length and $30{\mu}m$ in diameter. The surface of antennae was covered with many sensilla. They were long or short, slender or thick, and straight or curved. Each three morphological types of sensilla were observed on the second and third segment of antennae. The mouthpart was sponging type. It was consisted with clypeus, labellum, labium, labrum, and maxillary palp. The labellum is $400{\mu}m$ width and double folded vertically. The leg consist of tarsus, tarsus claw, pulvilli, and empodium.

In this paper, three species of Russula previously not recorded in Korea were found in Suweon, Mt. Chiri, Taegwanryung, Kwangneung, and etc., during 1977. The authors classified 32 species of Russula including 3 unrecorded species into 4 subgenera acording to morphological and cytological characteristics by S. Ito's taxonomic system, and proposed to designate the 3 unrecorded species of Russula and 4 sub genera, ((Compactae, Ingratae, Rigidae, and Fragilis) in Korean common name.

A cellulose acetate electrophoretic survey of Korean Anura has revealed the presence of diverse lactate and malate dehydrogenase isozymes. The LDH and MDH isozymes in the tissues of the brain, heart, stomach, skeletal muscle and liver of the six species of Anura examined show the species specific patterns which differ from those of mammals and birds. Two isozymic forms of LDH and MDH exist in both Rana nigromaculata and Rana nigromaculata coreana, respectively, with almost the same pattern. LDH of Bombina orientalis has five isozymic forms, and that of Rana temporaria ornativentris contains four isozymes. Bufo sp. has 3 to 5, and Rana rugosa has 3 to 4 isozymic bands according to the tissues. MDH's of all animals have two isozymic forms with different spacing on the zymograms.

Korean Shamanism has long been regarded as the peripheral cult or supersition by the majoriy of the society. This fact is a result by the influence of the mass media, especially the motion pictures, which intentionally reflected the negative images of the Shamanism. The documentary films, which stress the objectivity and the reality, rather disclose the neutral position toward the Shamanism. In fact, the directors of the documentary films who have more or less close relationship with the Shamanism have tried to exhibit the mental world and the traditionality of the Shamanism. In this paper, I will explore the value of Shamanism reflected in the documentary films. I focus of two films; directed by the Korean and directed by a foreigner. In this way, I can compare the attitudes of the two directors toward the Korean Shamanism. The director of confessed that he was attracted by the aspect of a musical underlied in the shaman ritual. However, the film does not show the artistic beauty of the shaman music because the director failed to understand the essential aspect of the shaman ritual, that is, the music. In this way, the director failed to show the distinct characteristics of the shamanism to the audience. The director of , a music herself, was focused on the music of the shamanism. The story flows to the adventure to seek a "master" with a long journey to enjoy diverse genres of Korean performing arts. This story resembles the epic shaman song, the Princess Bari. In this way, the audience can easily grasp the beauty of Korean culture. Music is said to be a universal language and, at the same time, a non-universal language which reflects a special trait of a cultural community. The Korean shaman ritual music is a non-universal language that is an accumulation of the Korean culture for a long time. The Korean director fails to exhibit the essential characteristics of the Shamanism since he does not have enough knowledge toward the shaman ritual music in . However, the foreign director, who is a music herself, successively disclose the underlying beauty of Korean shaman ritual music and Korean traditional culture in .

Pollution in the fresh water system in urban area has the adverse effect on the amphibians population. Restoration activity of amphibian in the urban stream has been growing in Korea as well as western country. For successful restoration water quality of urban stream should be sufficient for survival and normal development of amphibian. To monitor the biological safety of surface water in the Tancheon basin, the capital area of Korea, a 6-day exposure Bombina orientalis embryo developmental toxicity assay was examined. The toxicity of surface water of Tancheon mainstream were lower than those of tributaries of Tancheon. The survival rate of embryos negatively correlated with total dissolved solid, turbidity and electrical conductivity whereas the developmental abnormality and growth retardation of embryos was positively correlated with total dissolved solid, turbidity and electrical conductivity. An amphibian developmental toxicity assay would be helpful for the selection of point for construction of habitat and reintroduction of amphibian in interrupted urban stream.

The fine structure of the aggregate glands-one of the capture thread producing organs-in the orb web spider, Nephila clavata L.Koch, is studied with light and electron microscopes. Gluey capture threads or sticky spirals of the orb web are originated from the silks of two flagelliform glands and four aggregate glands which are connected to the posterior spinnerets, and the arrangement fo their spigots(large spinning tubes) shows a charaterstic form called "triad". The aggregate galnd is composed of large and multilobed secretory portion and thick excretory duct surrounded by large irregular nodules. The excretory duct of the aggregate galnds basically consists of three superposed types of cells which are inner columnar epithelium, nodule-forming cells and outer connestives. The cuticles of the proximal duct near the secretory portion are composed of endocuticle and exocuticle, whereas ghe distal duct near the spinning tubes has a electron lucent subcuticle which had the functions of water removal and orientation of silk fibers. In the cytoplasmic process of the large and irregular nodule-forming cells surrounded by invaginations of the plasma membranes, numerous mitochondria and glycogen particles are contained. The maturational level of the nodule cells is perceived from the appearence of these cell inclusions. The secretory portion of the glands which porduce the secretory silk material shows two layers of the cells which are simple cuboidal epithelium and several connective layers. In the cytoplasm of the glandular epithelial cell, rough endoplasmic reticulums are well developed, and two types of secretory granules are observed. Between the adjacent epithelial cells, specialized septate junctions are formed along the plasma membranes.membranes.

Spiders are carnivores that prey upon insects and other small arthropods through digestion of food outside the body. Although spider poison may contain proteolytic enzymes, these are thought to play an insignificant role in actual digestion. The source of active proteolytic enzymes can be either the digestive tract cells of spider, or natural microbial flora in the digestive tract of spider. In this study, digestive tracts from the spider, Nephila clavata, were screened for bacteria that have protease or lipase activity. A total of $10^3-10^5$ CFU was recovered from a spider and more than 90% of them showed protease and lipase activity respectively. Of the microbial isolates, 63.3% showed protease or lipase activity, and 50% of these showed both protease and lipase activity. Some of the isolates were characterized using a battery of chemical, phenotypic and genotypic methods. Eleven Gram negative bacteriaa (Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, A. haemolyticus, Alcaligenes faecalis, Cedecea davisae, C. neteri, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Serratia marcescens, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Suttonella indologenes) and 11 Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus, B. coagulans, B. pasteurii, B. thuringiensis, Cellulomonas flavigena, Corynebacterium martruchotii, Enterococcus durans, E. faecalis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus hominis, S. sciuri) were identified.
