  • To analyse the relationship between above-ground carbon stocks, species diversity and broadleaved forests structural diversity of South Korean forests, we collected vegetation inventories from environmental impact assessment projects over the past 10 years. The available data were selected and organised including tree species, DBH and area each projects. The data was classified by forest type, aboveground carbon stocks were calculated and compared, and the correlation between aboveground carbon stocks and biodiversity and structural diversity was analysed. The results showed that above-ground carbon stocks were higher in mixed forests and broadleaved forests and lower in needleleaved forests, similar to previous studies. However aboveground carbon stocks of mixed forests were higher in natural forests than in plantations. Aboveground carbon stocks in broadleaved forests were higher in plantations than natural forests, and there was no statistical different of between natural and plantations in needleleaved forest. This could be the result of a variety influences including biological and environmental factors in the study area, and further research is needed to analyse the effects on carbon sequestration. Correlation analysis showed no correlation between biodiversity and above-ground carbon stocks, but a positive correlation between structural diversity and above-ground carbon stocks. This indicates that above-ground carbon stocks in forests are associated with unevenness diameters and the proportion and evenness of tree species by diameter. In addition, it has been analysed that the high succession stages in forest have higher species diversity and structural diversity, and greater efficiency in the utilization of resources required for plant growth, leading to increased plant productivity and storage. Considering that the study sites were young forests with an average DBH of 14.8~23.7 cm, it is expected that carbon stocks will increase as biodiversity and structural diversity increase. Further research is needed to develop techniques to quantitatively assess the relationship of diversity to carbon stocks for policy use in assessing and increasing carbon stocks in forests.

  • This study aimed to investigate changes in metamodeling recognition among chemistry teachers through a teacher educational program related to redox models and water electrolysis experiments. To this end, a science model education program was developed for 9 chemistry teachers and conducted over 10 lessons for a total of 40 hours. In addition, a pre- and post-survey was administered to determine teachers' metamodeling recognition in non-contextual and contextual situations. As a result of the study, through the science model education program, teachers showed educational effects in both non-contextual and contextual situations. In the case of non-contextual situations, the stages of scientific metamodeling knowledge development of chemistry teachers came out differently depending on the type of question. For example, the nature or purpose of the model, the modeling process, or the evaluation and improvement of the model improved from low to high, but there was no significant change because the perception of model change and diversity was already high in advance. In the case of contextual situations, the stage of scientific metamodeling knowledge development improved from objectivity to subjectivity in both the redox model theory class and the water electrolysis model experiment class. Therefore, through the 5E circular learning model-based education program, chemistry teachers' perception of metamodeling was clearly improved. However, the modeling activities of teachers in the water electrolysis model experiment class were different from the change in metamodeling perception. The types that teachers selected as additional experiments for modeling were analyzed in two ways. The first type is when they are interested in finding an ideal condition in which the ratio of hydrogen and oxygen gas is close to 2:1 through additional experiments. The second type is when additional experiments are designed with interest in why the experimental results are coming out like that. It was analyzed that the second type was the experiment necessary for modeling. In addition, modeling activities were analyzed into two types. The first was a type in which water molecules were directly decomposed in two electrodes to generate hydrogen and oxygen gas. This type was the case of regression to the textbook model regardless of the experimental results, and 6 chemistry teachers out of 8 were analyzed as this type. The second type was the type in which water reacted at the (+) electrode to generate other substances, and hydrogen ions reacted at the (-) electrode to generate hydrogen gas. Teachers who performed these modeling activities corresponded to the second type in additional experiments, and 2 chemistry teachers out of 8 corresponded to this. Therefore, it is necessary to provide an experience of activities corresponding to the second type of experiment and modeling through an educational program that provides an experience of directly modeling through experiments in order to develop modeling capabilities, unlike the development of metamodeling knowledge.

  • This study aims to reflect on how the experiences in the interrelationship between parents and children affect the formation of God's image and how it affects the formation of healthy Christian identity. We will explore the implications of this research on education for the formation of healthy Christian identity for children. Based on the theories of God's image by Erickson, Freud, and Rizzuto, we examine in-depth how the parental image that children acquire in their relationship with their parents is related to the image of God, which is the basis of their lives. Parents are like caregivers, guardians, and absolute beings that enable their children's survival and safety from their birth. The parental image that a child has through interaction with their parents has a close relationship with the image of God. Amid the existential limitations and restrictions faced by children and parents, negative experiences such as oppression, punishment, and anger that children receive from their parents leave various psychological wounds inside the child. What is important here is that the summation of negative experiences inflicted on the child should not exceed the appropriate level that the child can endure. In addition, children should be guided to feel the following in their relationship with their parents. Children need to be nurtured to feel basic trust from their parents. If these important premise is not observed, the distorted parental image will lead to distorted God's image. Unreliable or violent images of parents will pose a serious threat to the formation of constructive faith or healthy Christian identity. Based on this premise, this study claims a substantial shift from oppressive, authoritarian, and one-directional ways of education to those of mutual, liberational, postconventional education. Finally, this study closes its inquiry by providing constructive direction and alternatives for the development of healthy Christian identity for Children.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest an appropriate collimation size and central X-ray incidence point by analyzing the correlation between the collimation size used in lumbar lateral examination and factors affecting the collimation size. the lumbar lateral examination results of 148 patients suitable for the purpose of this study were analyzed. The measurement method was to set the total horizontal width shown in the image to the size of the irradiation field(collimation) used during the examination. The distance connected vertically from the end of the dorsal field to the apophyseal joint of the third lumbar vertebra(AJD), the distance from the dorsal end of the image field to the center of the body of the third lumbar vertebra(BD), and the distance from the end of the dorsal field of the image to the center of the pedicle of the third lumbar vertebra(PD). The distance was measured. For comparative analysis of the mean values of dependent variables according to gender, age, height, weight, and body mass index, the mean values were compared using the independent samples t test and one-way ANOVA. For post hoc analysis, duncan was used. The correlation between independent and dependent variables was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. In this study, statistical significance was set at a p value of 0.05 or lower. The average value of the collimation size during the lumbar spine lateral examination was 252.45 mm, AJD was 102.11 mm, BD was 141.17 mm, and PD was 119.73 mm. The mean values of collimation size, AJD, BD, and PD were larger in men than in women, but statistical significance for the difference in mean values by gender was found only in BD (p<0.05). There was a slight difference in the mean value of each group according to age, but there was no statistical significance (p>0.05). The collimation size and mean values of AJD, BD, and PD according to height, weight, and body mass index differed depending on the independent variables, and the differences were all statistically significant (p<0.05). As a result of the correlation analysis, field size and AJD, BD, and PD showed no correlation with gender and age, a weak positive correlation with height, and a medium positive correlation with weight and body mass index. The results of this study showed that CS was correlated with height, weight, and BMI during lumbar lateral examination. If the entrance point of the central X-ray is moved to the appophyseal joint by considering weight and BMI when adjusting the collimation size in clinical practice, it is expected that the collimation size can be reduced bu about 5%.

  • The potential therapeutic effects of Kaempferia Parviflora ethanol extract (KPE) on osteoarthritis were investigated using the human chondrocyte cell line (CHON-001) to explore its application in functional foods. The CHON-001 cells were pre-treated with either 1 ㎍/ml or 5 ㎍/ml of KPE before exposure to 10 ng/ml of IL-1β to induce osteoarthritis. Results showed that KPE treatment significantly suppressed IL-1β-induced TNF-α production by 66% and 50% at concentrations of 1 ㎍/ml and 5 ㎍/ml KPE, respectively. In addition, COX-2 protein expression was reduced by 26% and 34% compared to control levels. The preservation of chondrocyte-specific matrix proteins, aggrecan, and collagen type II, was notable, with aggrecan and mRNA levels maintained by 5% and 8%, and collagen II levels preserved by 62% and 47% at the same KPE concentrations. This preservation is likely due to the reduced expression of MMP1 and MMP13, enzymes responsible for matrix protein degradation. Overall, the current results suggest that KPE may protect chondrocytes from IL-1β-induced osteoarthritis by suppressing TNF-α production and COX-2 expression while preserving critical matrix proteins like aggrecan and collagen II by suppressing the expressions of their degrading enzymes (MMP-1 and MMP-13). Therefore, KPE holds promise as a candidate for developing functional foods aimed at reducing osteoarthritis.

  • Waterbody change detection using satellite images has recently been carried out in various regions in South Korea, utilizing multiple types of sensors. This study utilizes optical satellite images from Landsat and Sentinel-2 based on Google Earth Engine (GEE) to analyze long-term surface water area changes in four monitored small and medium-sized water supply dams and agricultural reservoirs in South Korea. The analysis covers 19 years for the water supply dams and 27 years for the agricultural reservoirs. By employing image analysis methods such as normalized difference water index, Canny Edge Detection, and Otsu'sthresholding for waterbody detection, the study reliably extracted water surface areas, allowing for clear annual changes in waterbodies to be observed. When comparing the time series data of surface water areas derived from satellite images to actual measured water levels, a high correlation coefficient above 0.8 was found for the water supply dams. However, the agricultural reservoirs showed a lower correlation, between 0.5 and 0.7, attributed to the characteristics of agricultural reservoir management and the inadequacy of comparative data rather than the satellite image analysis itself. The analysis also revealed several inconsistencies in the results for smaller reservoirs, indicating the need for further studies on these reservoirs. The changes in surface water area, calculated using GEE, provide valuable spatial information on waterbody changes across the entire watershed, which cannot be identified solely by measuring water levels. This highlights the usefulness of efficiently processing extensive long-term satellite imagery data. Based on these findings, it is expected that future research could apply this method to a larger number of dam reservoirs with varying sizes, shapes, and monitoring statuses, potentially yielding additional insights into different reservoir groups.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine which scan range would provide the most accurate bite registration when performing a bite scan after scanning an upper and lower arch using an intraoral scanner. Materials and Methods: The occlusal contact points were recorded using articulating paper for 30 adults, and the results of various ranges of buccal bite scan were compared based on this. Buccal bite scan of 5 ranges (1st premolar to 2nd premolar, 1st premolar to 1st molar, 1st premolar to 2nd molar, 2nd premolar to 1st molar, and canines to another side canine of the maxillary teeth) was performed, and then the buccal bite scan file was used in a CAD program to confirm the occlusal area in the scan file through data editing and alignment, leaving the buccal area of the teeth. Afterwards, the degree of agreement between the occlusal contact points obtained from the articulating paper and the occlusal area obtained from the scan file was compared, and statistical analysis was performed using the homoscedastic T-test (α = 0.05). Results: The alignment success and alignment failure rates among each group were 77.23% and 40.85% in canine to another side canine, 68.23% and 28.89% in bilateral first premolar to second premolar, 63.76% and 29.97% in bilateral first premolar to first molar, 61.31% and 32.04% in bilateral first premolar to second molar, 67.55% and 27.46% in second premolar to first molar. The results of the anterior scan of both canines showed higher alignment success and failure rates compared to the scan results of all maxillary posterior teeth. In the alignment success rate, statistical significance was not found depending on the scan range of the posterior teeth, but in comparing the results of the posterior teeth and both canines, statistical significance was observed except for the scan results of the second premolar to the first molar. There was no statistical significance in the alignment failure rate depending on the scan range of the posterior teeth, and statistical significance was observed in the results of the posterior teeth and both canines. Conclusion: When taking a buccal bite scan, in the case of scanning the anterior teeth, more occlusal area appear than when scanning the posterior teeth, and in the case of scanning the posterior teeth, there is no significant difference in the bite registration depending on the scan range.

  • This study aimed to utilize LiDAR, a high-precision surveying technology, to compensate for errors caused by human measurements and obtain accurate and consistent data for tree volume measurement. To this end, a comparative verification of measured tree volume values by each method was conducted using terrestrial LiDAR (TLS) and drone LiDAR (ALS). As a result of examining the 3D data of trees according to the measurement method, it was confirmed that the output data of terrestrial LiDAR had insufficient crowns, and the output data of drone LiDAR had insufficient trunks. Therefore, the study attempted to establish a complete form by aligning the two data sets. In addition, two verifications of tree volume values were conducted using the point cloud data output by each method. As a result of the first verification, the accuracy verification of terrestrial LiDAR showed a difference of 1-3 m in tree height compared to the existing field survey measurement value. The discrepancy is believed to be due to the density of trees or terrain and features according to the principle of LiDAR. In the second verification, terrestrial LIDAR, drone LIDAR, terrestrial LIDAR, and drone LIDAR alignment data were compared. In order to compare the tree height and breast height diameter according to each measurement method, Bland-Altman descriptive statistics were performed based on the field survey measurement values. Considering the results, the drone LIDAR measurement method showed the highest repeatability coefficient, indicating the least consistency, while the drone and terrestrial LIDAR alignment data values showed the lowest repeatability coefficient, indicating high consistency. For the breast height diameter, the terrestrial LIDAR measurement method showed a low repeatability coefficient similar to the drone and terrestrial LIDAR alignment data values, indicating high consistency. Therefore, it is judged that the method of overlapping drone and terrestrial LIDAR data when measuring the structure of trees can derive more precise tree volume information.

  • This paper is a basic study on replacing ordinary aggregates with zeolite aggregates with high absorption rates in paving concrete for sidewalks. In order to determine the optimal replacement ratio of coarse and fine zeolite aggregates in paving concrete, absorption performance through absorption and drying tests and mechanical properties through compression, bending, and splitting tensile strength tests were investigated. As a result of the absorption tests, the absorption performance, which can be defined as the difference between absorption rate and drying rate, was 6% for coarse aggregates, which was about 4% higher than that of normal aggregates, and 31% for fine aggregates, which was about 11% higher than that of normal aggregates. In addition, in paving concrete mixed with zeolite aggregates, the absorption rate was up to 4.5%, and the drying rate was at least 0.72%, which showed a relatively high absorption performance considering the unit volume weight. The compressive strength of paving concrete mixed with zeolite aggregate decreased at some replacement ratios compared to that of normal aggregate, but all satisfied the design compressive strengths specified in the Korean design standard. The flexural strength also decreased by up to 16% depending on the replacement ratio and was lower than the design flexural strength specified in the mixture design guidelines. However, it was judged that there would be no problem in applying it to concrete pavement for sidewalks with small design loads. The splitting tensile strength, which is important for crack resistance, was the same or decreased at a rate of 6% or less depending on the replacement ratio, so it is considered to be suitable for paving concrete for sidewalks. From the research results on absorption performance and mechanical properties, it was confirmed that zeolite aggregates can be applied to absorbent paving concrete for sidewalks, and the optimal replacement ratio for this was determined to be 20% coarse aggregate and 10% fine aggregate based on a total of 30% replacement.
