  • In most introductory statistics courses and text, the two equal tail test is presented without justification. In the present paper, the two equal tail critical region will be discussed in the light of unbiasedness with some test examples for the mean and the variance based on the random sample $X_1$, $X_2$,....$X_n$ from N($\mu$, $\delta^2$) using only elementary mathematics.

  • It is often possible to test for differences in population means when two or more samples are extracted from each N population. However, it is not possible to test for the mean difference if one sample is extracted from each population since a sample mean does not exist. But, by dividing a group of samples extracted one by one into two groups and generating a sample mean, we can identify a heterogeneity that may exist within the group by comparing the differences of the groups' mean. Therefore, we propose a minimum combination t-test method that can test the mean difference by the number of combinations that can be divided into two groups. In this paper, we proposed a method to test differences between means to check heterogeneity in a group of extracted samples. We verified the performance of the method by simulation study and obtained the results through real data analysis.

  • Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the accuracy and adequacy of research studies reporting statistical testing for mean differences in studies of the Korean Journal of Women Health. Methods: Among articles published in the journal from 2007 to 2009, 75 studies using t-test, $x^2$-test, and ANOVA were identified. The studies were evaluated using structured analysis format for adequacy of research title, accuracy of statistical methods and presentation styles, and errors in reported statistical outcomes. Results: In this study, the research titles generally reflected the purpose of research and study designs. Thus the research titles were quite comprehensive. Also, there was compatibility between the research purpose and research design. Most important though, many errors were identified in the tables of results of the statistical analysis in articles published from 2004 to 2006. Conclusion: Over six years, 2004 to 2009, accuracy and adequacy of research studies has improved in many aspects. In order to enhance the completeness of the published papers and to be an internationally recognized nursing journal, close attention of the researchers, reviewers and editors is necessary to avoid errors and present adequate and accurate research.

  • Outlying or extreme observations are defined to be subject data for which one or more bioavailability measures are discordant with corresponding data for that subject and/or for the rest of the subjects in a study. The presence of outlying observations can have very serious consequences on the conclusions resulting from a bioequivalence study. Two statistical methods are proposed by generalizing the current well known methods and an illustrated example is presented with discussion.

  • In this paper, we studied about several methods of testing hypothesis of correlation, specially Approximate method, Empirical method and Bootstrap method. The Approximate method is based on the Fisher's Z-transformation and the Empirical and Bootstrap methods approximate the distribution of the sample correlation coefficient by Monte Carlo simulation and Bootstrap technique, respectively. In order to compare how good these tests are, we computed powers under various alternatives. Consequently, we see that the Approximate test performs very well even if in small sample and all tests have almost the same power in large sample.

  • In this paper, we propose a quality assessment method of biometrics for estimating an authentication result in an user authentication system. The proposed quality assessment method is designed to compute a quality score called CIMR (Confidence Interval Matching Ratio) as a result by small-sample analysis like T-test. We use the C/MR-based quality assessment method for testing how to well draw a distinction between various biometrics in a multimodal biometric system. We also test a predictability for authentication results of obtained biometrics using the mean $\bar{X}$ and the variance $s^2$ in T-test-based CIMR. As a result, we achieved the maximum 88% accuracy for estimation of user authentication results.

  • In this study, 12 different chemical species of fine ceramic($BaTiO_3$) were synthesized as the standard materials for the fast and accurate measurements of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Samples were diluted to sixteen times with the filling compound ($Li_2B_4O_7+LiBO_2$) in order to remove the matrix effect, and to get the convenient storage and homogeneity of ingredients. The matrix effects among the ingredients were corrected by the empirical coefficient method based on the Lucas-Tooth and Price model. The standard curve on 12 standard materials containing 15 elements were obtained by using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry at three different laboratories. The correlation factors of BaO, PbO, SrO, $Fe_2O_3$, $La_2O_3$, $SnO_2$, ZnO, $ZrO_2$, CaO indicated the relati vely good agreement over 0.995 among the three different laboratories. $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ showed the poor linearity because of their low fluorescence intensities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the general characteristics, working condition, discrimination experience and job engagement of office workers and to examine the effect of discrimination experience on job engagement. This study was the secondary analysis of date from the fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey and the subjects included 6,718 office workers. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, x2-test, t-test, and complex samples general linear model(CSGLM). As a result, job engagement was high when they never experienced discrimination. Based on the results of this study, in order to improve job engagement of office workers, manage to prevent discrimination in the workplace should be included.

  • The concepts and structure of intermittent panel time series data are introduced. We suggest a Wald test statistic for the test of homogeneity for intermittent panel first order autoregressive model and its limit distribution is derived. We consider the fitting the model with pooling data using sample mean at the time point if homogeneity for intermittent panel AR(1) is satisfied. We performed simulations to examine the limit distribution of the homogeneity test statistic for intermittent panel AR(1). In application, we fit the intermittent panel AR(1) for panel Mumps data and investigate the test of homogeneity.
