COMPARISON OF TURBULENCE MODELS ON ANALYSIS OF AIRCRAFT CONFIGURATIONS AT TRANSONIC SPEED (천음속 영역에서 항공기 유동해석에 미치는 난류모델의 영향 비교)

  • In this paper, we study the effect of various turbulence models by comparing the aerodynamic characteristics and the flow patterns computed for aircraft models. An in-house CFD solver, MSAPv, that solves the three dimensional RANS equations with the turbulence model equations is used. The turbulence models used in this study are the Spalart-Allmaras model, Menter's $k-{\omega}$ SST model, Coakley's $q-{\omega}$ model, and Huang and Coakley's $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. DLR-F6 WB and WBNP configurations are selected for the study. We concentrate on the separated flow pattern variations with the turbulence models at the wing-body junction and the wing-pylon junction as well as drag polar curves.

Preclinical Study of DA-5018, a Non-narcotic Analgesic Agent

  • DA-5018 is a synthetic capsaicin derivative under development as a non-narcotic a analgesic ag$\varepsilon$nt. DA-50 18 showed a potent analgesic activity against acute and chronic pain m model(Tablel, 2.), but it had a narrow margin of safety. DA-5018 did not bind to opioid(${\kappa}, {\delta}, {\mu}$), NKl, CGRP receptors in vitro and its analgesic effect was not antagonized by naloxone, a and it did not develop analgesic tolerance. In addition DA-5018 had no inhibitory effects against c cyclooxygenase and 5-lipooxygenase activities. DA-5018 significantly increased the relcase of substance P from the slices of the rat spinal cord. These results suggest that DA-50 18 is not a narcotic nor aspirin-like analgesic and the release of substance P is one of analgesic mechanism of action of DA-5018. We found that DA-5018 was almost ten times more potent and was at l least IOO-times less irritable compared to capsaicin. Accordingly development of topical formula was adopted. Topical formula was desiged and screened by flux test of DA-5018 using hairless mouse skin and several formulas were selected. With these topical formulas we a assessed the analgesic efficacy and carried out the toxicity, skin irritation and pharmacokinetic studies. In streptozotocin-induced hyperalgesic rat and 50 % galactose-fed hyperalgesic rat as diabetic pain models, DA-5018 cream increased the pain thresh이ds up to 77.0% and 24.4% respectively, while Zostrix-HP(capsaicin cream) incr$\varepsilon$as cd by 65.9% and 21.0%. DA-5018 c cream showed a good analgesic effect as welI in FCA-induced arthritic rat. DA-5018 cream did not show any toxicological signs in acute and chronic toxicity test and had little skin irritation in car swclIing and scratching t$\varepsilon$st. Pharmacokinetics of DA-50 18 were studied after topical application of ${14}^C$-Iabelled or unlabelIed DA-5018 cream. Plasma and skin concentrations c except applied skin wcre below the dctection limit and after 7-day cummulative application, plasma concentrations were also below detection limit DA-50 18 may have an advantag$\varepsilon$ ov$\varepsilon$r c capsaicin and is now being developed as a topical agent for the treatment of pains. DA-50 18 cream was approved for Korean IND and is now under a Phase II clinical study for arthritic pain a after finising Phase I study.   • Accurate prediction of a supersonic missile base drag continues to defy even well-rounded CFD codes. In an effort to address the accuracy and predictability of the base drags, the influence of grid system and competitive turbulence models on the base drag is analyzed. Characteristics of some turbulence models is reviewed through incompressible turbulent flow over a flat plate, and performance for the base drag prediction of several turbulence models such as Baldwin-Loman(B-L), Spalart-Allmaras(S-A), k-$\varepsilon$, k-$\omega$ model is assessed. When compressibility correction is injected into the S-A model, prediction accuracy of the base drag is enhanced. The NSWC wind tunnel test data are utilized for comparison of CFD and semi-empirical codes on the accuracy of base drag predictability: they are about equal, but CFD tends to perform better. It is also found that, as angle of attack of a missile with control fins increases, even the best CFD analysis tool we have lacks the accuracy needed for the base drag prediction.

  • In this study, the numerical investigation of ship motions and added resistance at constant forward velocity of KVLCC2 model is presented. Finite volume CFD code is used to calculate three dimensional, incompressible, unsteady RANS equations. Numerical computations show that reliable numerical results can be obtained in head waves. In the numerical analyses, body attached mesh method is used to simulate the ship motions. Free surface is simulated by using VOF method. The relationship between the turbulence viscosity and the velocities are obtained through the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The numerical results are examined in terms of ship resistance, ship motions and added resistance. The validation studies are carried out by comparing the present results obtained for the KVLCC2 hull from the literature. It is shown that, ship resistance, pitch and heave motions in regular head waves can be estimated accurately, although, added resistance can be predicted with some error.

  • Recently the construction of atrium buildings has increased but along with it many problems in thermal environment have arised. since the exterior wall of glass, indoor temperature is greatly influenced by weather conditions and since the space volume is very large, the vertical air temperature is not uniform. So, in this study, a Vertical Temperature Distribution Model was developed to predict the vertical air temperature of an atrium and evaluate the effects of the design parameters on the air temperature distribution of an atrium. To consider the characteristics of the vertical air temperature distribution in an atrium, the Satosh Togari's Macroscopic Model was used basically for the calculation of the vertical air temperature distribution in large space and the solar radiation analysis model and natural ventilation analysis model in atrium. And to calculate the unsteady-state inside wall surface temperature(boundary condition), the finite difference method was used. For the verification of the developed temperature distribution program, numerical evaluation of air flow by the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and in-situ test was conducted in parallel. The results of this study, the developed temperature distribution program was seen to predict the thermal condition of the atrium very accurately.

Comparative study of turbulent flow around a bluff body by using two- and three-dimensional CFD

  • In this study, the turbulent flow around a bluff body for different wind velocities was investigated numerically by using its two- and three-dimensional models. These models were tested to verify the validity of the simulation by being compared with experimental results which were taken from the literature. Variations of non-dimensional velocities in different positions according to the bluff body height were analysed and illustrated graphically. When the velocity distributions were examined, it was seen that the results of both two- and three-dimensional models agree with the experimental data. It was also seen that the velocities obtained from two-dimensional model matched up with the experimental data from the ground to the top of the bluff body. Particularly, compared to the front part of the bluff body, results of the upper and back part of the bluff body are better. Moreover, after comparing the results from calculations by using different models with experimental data, the effect of multidimensional models on the obtained results have been analysed for different inlet velocities. The calculation results from the two-dimensional (2D) model are in satisfactory agreement with the calculation results of the three-dimensional model (3D) for various flow situations when comparing with the experimental data from the literature even though the 3D model gives better solutions.

Anti-allergic Effect of Ethanolic Extract of Flos Sophora japonica L. on Ca++ Ionophore Stimulated Murine RBL-2H3 Cells (괴화(槐花) 에탄올 추출물이 RBL-2H3 비만세포에서 Ca++ Ionophore에 의한 알레르기 반응 조절에 미치는 효과)

  • Elevation of intracellular calcium ($Ca^{{+}{+}}$) triggers degranulation of mast cells by bypassing receptor activation. Flos Sophora japonica L. has been used as a natural dying source and has been reported to have biological activities such as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects through $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$ and IgE crosslinking. In the present investigation, we report the regulatory effect of ethanolic extract of Flos Sophora japonica L. (S.F) on allergic mediators produced by $Ca^{{+}{+}}$ ionophore activation in mast cells. S.F significantly inhibited calcium ionophore (A23187)-induced interleukin (IL)-4 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ production as well as mast cell degranulation. Furthermore, administration of S.F suppressed allergic reactions in a 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced allergic dermatitis mouse model. Both oral administration and ear painting using 50 mg/kg of S.F significantly reduced levels of cytokines such as IL-4, TNF, and interferon-${\gamma}$ in ear tissues compared to the DNFB alone-treated group. Serum IgE level in the S.F-treated group also decreased compared to the DNFB alone-treated group. Weights of spleens and lymph nodes in the S.F-treated groups also decreased compared to the control group. Considering the data, we conclude that S.F mediates its anti-allergic effects not only through $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$ stimulation but also $Ca^{{+}{+}}$ influx in mast cells.

  • Numerical study of a confined, swirling, isothermal and spray-combusting flows has been presented. The pressure-velocity coupling in the Eulerian gas-phase equation is handled by the improved PISO algorithm. The droplet dispersion by turbulence is introduced by a Stochastic Separated Flow(SSF) model. The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model and the eddy dissipation model are employed to account for turbulence-combustion interaction. The detailed comparison with experimental data has been made for the isothermal jet swirling flows and the nearly monodisperse spray-combusting flow in the swirl combustor.

  • Bio-venture companies have undertaken harsh environment after 2000 bubble corruption. It is unlike to be changed in the near future. The business model of near-term cash flow, financial stability and survival is a key issue to be discussed. The company shall be rearranged to achieve fast recovery from investment and have to show clear and quantitative business model to the investors. Nevertheless, bio-venture should not drop long-term value creation by sacrificing the possibility of emerging technologies. Prior to clarifing agro-bioventure business model, GMO strategy should have broad supports from stakeholders. The interests and worries of stakeholders are discussed and SWOT is analyzed. For sustainable economy of future, new technology continuously should be invested to fit ROI model of genomics-based GMO developments. Hybrid of products ${\varepsilon}$ technologies may be one of the favorites in this stormy season.

  • A model engine having a flat cylinder head and a piston face and an off-center intake valve is investigated in this analysis. Calculation domain is confined to the half of the cylinder with swirl free inlet velocity condition. Due to the absence of measured inlet conditions, the inlet flowrates during induction period are calculated from overall mass and energy conservation requirements. Finite difference equation for velocity and pressure were solved by modified SIMPLER algorithm, standard k-$\varepsilon$turbulence model and hybrid scheme. From the result of prediction, dimensionless velocity distribution and turbulence intensities are investigated at each crank angle.
