  • In 2019, the sex pheromones of Spodoptera frugiperda were used to examine moth trapping in cornfields in Gochang, Korea. Four types of traps were prepared, two funnel-types and two delta-types, each baited with 300 or 1000 ㎍ of a two-component (2C) blend of synthetic sex pheromones [100% (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14Ac) and 2% (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate (Z7-12Ac)]. The greatest number of S. frugiperda were captured in the 300 ㎍ funnel-type trap (first catch: August 6). Large numbers of Mythimna loreyi (a non-target) were also caught in the funnel-type traps. Two wing-type traps were baited with 1000 ㎍ of the 2C blend or a four-component (4C) blend [100% (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, 8% (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate (Z11-16Ac), 2% (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, and 1% (Z)-9-dodecenyl acetate (Z9-12Ac)] and the capture efficiency was assessed. Low numbers of S. frugiperda were captured regardless of the blend, and more M. loreyi were captured using the 4C blend. The two intraspecies groups clustered separately in a phylogenetic tree constructed using partial sequences (1004 bp) of cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1). Of the 70 S. frugiperda captured in the pheromone traps, 66 belonged to CO1-RS (CO1 rice-strain) and 4 to CO1-CS (CO1 corn-strain). Twelve consistent single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified in CO1 between the CO1-RS and CO1-CS groups of S. frugiperda. Of the 73 S. frugiperda, 4 had the same SNP pattern as the CO1-CS group (including the corn strain) and 69 had the same SNP pattern as the CO1-RS group (including the rice strain).

  • This study examined the effects of balance taping therapy on improving knee pain and the obstacles to daily activity in rural elderly women. The research design was a quasi-experimental research using a non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. The data were collected from January 19th to April 14th, 2017. The research subjects included female elderly over 65 years old who visited 12 senior centers located at Y city in rural areas. The participants were composed of 26 people in the experimental group and 28 people in the control group. Data were collected before and 24 hours after balance taping therapy, and the pain and obstacles to daily activity were measured. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW Statistics 23 Program, which included a $X^2-test$, Shapiro-Wilk test, and Mann-Whitney U test. After the intervention, significant differences were observed in the knee pain (Z=-6.658, p<.001) and obstacles to daily activity (Z=-3.466, p=.001). With regard to lower domain variables of the obstacles to daily activity, significant differences in standing up (Z=-2.860, p=.004), daily activity (Z=-2.629, p=.009), walking (Z=-3.868, p<.001), and dressing up (Z=-2.049, p=.040) were observed between the two groups. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in grip (Z=-.542, p=.588) and arm stretching (Z=-.416, p=.678). In conclusion, applying balance taping to rural elderly women clearly decreases the level of knee pain, reduces the obstacles to daily activity, and improves their quality of life.

  • This study was executed to examine helical structure and other feature, of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger through photomicroscopic and scanning electron microscopic observation, and the obtained result, were summarized as follows: 1. Tracheid transition from springwood to summerwood was abrupt, mel slightly gradual in Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and summerwood width of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger was wider than that of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. 2. Normal vertical and horizontal resin canals and surrounding thick epithelial cells were present in Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but not present in Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. 3. Instead of helical thickening, helical chicks were observed only in summerwood trachieds of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger. However, helical thickenings forming S, Z., and horizontal helix perpendicular to long axis of tracheid were observed in springood and summerwood tracheids of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and these helical thickenings were considered as analogous to the innermost layer of secondary wall. 4. Uniseriate and fusiform rays were appeared on tangential surface of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but oly uniserate ray was observed on tangential surface ot Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. The fusiform rays of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger usually contained one horizontal resin canal bot occasionally two horizontal resin canals were contained in a fusiform ray. 5. Trabeculae and crassulae were observed in the tracheids of Larix gmelimii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but not observed in the tracheids of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z.

  • Pheromone orientation in moths is an exemplar of olfactory sensitivity. To avoid cross mating, the responses of males to pheromone blends must be high specificity and temporal resolution. We tested the effects of olfactory self- and cross-adaptation of pheromone compounds and mixtures in Spodoptera litura moths by electroantennogram (EAG) recordings. The challenge of S. litura antennae to a pulse train of its own pheromone blends of Z9,E11-14:OAc and Z9,E12-14:OAc with 200 ms on/off and 1 s on/off indicated that the repetitive stimulation by 200 ms on/off with high dosages resulted in greater adaptation than that by 1 s on/off with low dosages and the adaptation index of Z9,E11-14:OAc in all treatments is significantly larger than that of Z9,E12-14:OAc, suggesting that high dosages with more frequent stimulation prefer to induce sensory adaptations and a different odor coding exist between the two components in the antennal periphery in this moth. The cross-adaptation EAG test among the two pheromone compounds and Z7-12:OAc and Z9-14:OH from congeneric species of S. litura showed that each of these compounds adapted the antenna more to that specific compound. The significantly higher adaptation to Z7-12:OAc and Z9-14:OH than to the pheromone components of S. litura induced by themselves suggested that both of them are coded by specific odor receptor neurons which are different from those tuned to the pheromone components of S. litura . Thus, we proposed that Z7-12:OAc and Z9-14:OH may play an important role in avoidance of heterospecific mating between S. litura and its sympatric moth species.

  • The Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumer has a unique beauty-consuming behavior that is distinct from the previous generations. This study aims to identify the meaning of makeup rituals based on the theoretical framework of the ritual concept. In-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen females in their mid-teens to early 20s. The results showed that Gen-Z has different types of makeup ritual scripts for both ordinary days and special days, which are constantly being re-written and revised based on the experience accumulated. In addition, there are various types of ritual artifacts that play an important role in Gen-Z's makeup ritual, and that they provide psychological comfort and satisfaction. The importance of DIY (Do It Yourself), collecting, and independent brands is emphasized. The role of Gen-Z in the makeup ritual was expanding from a creator for her own ritual to a collaborator for peers' rituals, and sometimes the expansion goes beyond the direct relationships to virtual ones through SNS (Social Network Service). The Gen-Z cohort is found to be a member of beauty knowledge network through which they learn, share, and create the know-how and shopping skills.

  • The banking sector is one of the most important sectors in Pakistan's struggling economy. Recent studies have recommended that suitable methods can be applied to predict bankruptcy. In this context, this work analyzes Pakistan's banking sector's financial status through the five-factor Altman Z-score model, which determines the probability of bankruptcy for an organization. Banking data has been collected through the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in the period 2013-2017. The Z-score assessment criteria is defined as: Z> 2.99 - "safe" zone; Z> 1.8 Z>2.98- "grey" zone; and Z <1.8 - "distress" zone. Results show good predictions for the local banking industry, while most foreign Pakistani banks were found bankrupt with the Z-score below 1.1. One of the financial risks investors face when investing in any company is the risk of bankruptcy. One of the most used models for predicting financial distress for any company is Altman's Z-score model. On the other hand, the Z-score analysis suggests that all banking establishments are not bankrupt because they have sufficient ability to control bankruptcy. At the same time, foreign banks failed financially and would not be able to be sustained in the future because they do not have the ability to pay the short-term and long-term debt.

  • This experiment was carried out to distinguish between picea abies (L.) Karsten and Picea koraiensis Nak by the method of discriminant analysis which is used the metrical continuous characteristic on current inorphological plant taxanomy. The results are summarized as follows 1) The discriminant function and discriminant region from the experiment are Z(x)=Z($x_1,\;x_2$)=$0.000379x_1+0.004354x_2-0.311061$ or Z(x)=Z($x_1,\;x_2$=$0.000379(x_1-60.442800)+0.004354(x_2-66.185100)$, $$R_1=(x{\mid}0.000379x_1+0.004354x_2-0.311061{\geq_-}0)$$, $R_2$=($x{\mid}0.000379x_1+0.004354x_2-0.311061$ <0). 2) The probability of misclassification based on the above discriminant region is P($2{\mid}1$)=$P(1{\mid}2)$=0.444 therefore the probability of simultaneous misclassification of P($2{\mid}1$) and $P(1{\mid}2)$ is about 44.4%. 3) the probability of misclassification by the discriminant function resulted from the experiment if recorded as high but it is thought that there is a considerable meaning to perceive the probability of confidence about the discrimination better than its precision.

  • Ethanol production from raw starch was performed using the co-immobilized culture system of Rhizopu japonicus and zymomonas mobilis(R-Z). Glucose Production in immobilized R. japonicus culture was 2-fold higher than that in free cell culture. Ethanol production was 1.67g/L(Yp/s, 0.094) and 6.549/L(Yp/s, 0.38) in R-Z and R-Z 24 culture system, respectively. R-Z system was modified and designated as R-Z 24 system by replacing cotton plug with silicon check valve after 24h fermentation with R-Z system. Optimal substrate concentration for ethanol production in batch culture was 5%(w/v) and ethanol concentration produced was 15.02g/L(Yp/s, 0.36). Ethanol yield(Yp/s, 0.38) in fed-batch culture of 5 times with 2%(w/v) substrate was equal to that in batch culture of 2%(w/v) substrate.

  • A Kenmotsu manifold $M^n({\phi},\;{\xi},\;{\eta},\;g)$, (n = 2m + 1 > 3) is called a generalized ${\phi}-recurrent$ if its curvature tensor R satisfies $${\phi}^2(({\nabla}_wR)(X,Y)Z)=A(W)R(X,Y)Z+B(W)G(X,Y)Z$$ for all $X,\;Y,\;Z,\;W{\in}{\chi}(M)$, where ${\nabla}$ denotes the operator of covariant differentiation with respect to the metric g, i.e. ${\nabla}$ is the Riemannian connection, A, B are non-vanishing 1-forms and G is given by G(X, Y)Z = g(Y, Z)X - g(X, Z)Y. In particular, if A = 0 = B then the manifold is called a ${\phi}-symmetric$. Now, a Kenmotsu manifold $M^n({\phi},\;{\xi},\;{\eta},\;g)$, (n = 2m + 1 > 3) is said to be generalized ${\phi}-Ricci$ recurrent if it satisfies $${\phi}^2(({\nabla}_wQ)(Y))=A(X)QY+B(X)Y$$ for any vector field $X,\;Y{\in}{\chi}(M)$, where Q is the Ricci operator, i.e., g(QX, Y) = S(X, Y) for all X, Y. In this paper, we study generalized ${\phi}-recurrent$ and generalized ${\phi}-Ricci$ recurrent Kenmotsu manifolds with respect to quarter-symmetric metric connection and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition of a generalized ${\phi}-recurrent$ Kenmotsu manifold with respect to quarter symmetric metric connection to be generalized Ricci recurrent Kenmotsu manifold with respect to quarter symmetric metric connection.

  • To efficiently recycle GH78 thermostable rhamnosidase (TpeRha) and easily separate it from the reaction mixture and furtherly improve the enzyme properties, the magnetic particle Fe3O4-SiO2-NH2-Cellu-ZIF8 (FSNcZ8) was prepared by modifying Fe3O4-NH2 with tetraethyl silicate (TEOS), microcrystalline cellulose and zinc nitrate hexahydrate. FSNcZ8 displayed better magnetic stability and higher-temperature stability than unmodified Fe3O4-NH2 (FN), and it was used to adsorb and immobilize TpeRha from Thermotoga petrophilea 13995. As for properties, FSNcZ8-TpeRha showed optimal reaction temperature and pH of 90℃ and 5.0, while its highest activity approached 714 U/g. In addition, FSNcZ8-TpeRha had better higher-temperature stability than FN. After incubation at 80℃ for 3 h, the residual enzyme activities of FSNcZ8-TpeRha, FN-TpeRha and free enzyme were 93.5%, 63.32%, and 62.77%, respectively. The organic solvent tolerance and the monosaccharides tolerance of FSNcZ8-TpeRha, compared with free TpeRha, were greatly improved. Using naringin (1 mmol/l) as the substrate, the optimal conversion conditions were as follows: FSNcZ8-TpeRha concentration was 6 U/ml; induction temperature was 80℃; the pH was 5.5; induction time was 30 min, and the yield of products was the same as free enzyme. After repeating the reaction 10 times, the conversion of naringin remained above 80%, showing great improvement of the catalytic efficiency and repeated utilization of the immobilized α-L-rhamnosidase.
