  • The objectives of this paper were to measure the bond strengths of reinforced concrete in which the steel rods were coated with five different kinds of anticorrosion paints, and to compare their prevention effects in salt water. The paints used in the study were epoxy resin I . II . III, Z.R. P., and silicone resin, which were applied at rates recommended by the manufacturers. The bond strengths were measured on the 7-, 14-, and 28-th days after molding. Corrosion conditions of coated steel plate under fresh water, seawater, 10 % salt water, and 20% salt water, were inspected every month during four months test peoriods, respectively. The results obtained from tests are summarized as follows: 1. Paint-coating may reduce the bond strengths of reinforced concrete. Silicone resin paint showed some 20% reduction in the strength compared to those without the paint. However, the other paints seemed not to significantly affect the strength. 2. Picture analyses showed that epoxy resin I and II significantly prevented corrosion steel plates in seawater. Epoxy resin I and silicone resin coating did not do a good job in corrosion prevention. Z.R. P. paint was found to be moderate as preventive coating paint. 3. Varying soluble salt contents had little effects on the corrosion prevention of tested paints. 4. Epoxy resin I and II were found to be appropriate as a coating material to prevent the corrosion of steel rods in seawater. Z.R.P. may also be used for the purpose.

  • Quasi Z-Source Multilevel Inverter (QZMLI) topology has attracted grid connected Photovoltaic (PV) systems in recent days. So there is a remarkable research thrust in switching techniques and control strategies of QZMLI. This paper presents the mathematical analysis of Phase shift- Pulse Width Amplitude Modulation (PS-PWAM) for QZMLI and emphasizes on the advantages of the technique. The proposed technique uses the maximum and minimum envelopes of the reference waves for generation of pulses and proportion of it to generate shoot-through pulses. Hence, it results in maximum utilization of input voltage, lesser switching loss, reduced Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the output voltage, reduced inductor current ripple and capacitor voltage ripple. Due to these qualities, the QZMLI with PS-PWAM emerges to be the best suitable for PV based grid connected applications compared to Phase shift-Pulse Width Modulation (PS-PWM). The detailed math analysis of the proposed technique has been disclosed. Simulation has been performed for the proposed technique using MATLAB/Simulink. A prototype has been built to validate the results for which the pulses were generated using FPGA /SPARTAN 3E.

  • The reactions of O,O-diethyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates with X-benzylamines are kinetically investigated in dimethyl sulfoxide at $85.0^{\circ}C$. The Hammett (log $k_2$ vs ${\sigma}x$) and Br$\ddot{o}$nsted [log $k_2$ vs $pK_a$(X)] plots are biphasic concave downwards for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles with a break point at X = H. The signs of the cross-interaction constants (${\rho}xz$) are positive for both the strongly and weakly basic nucleophiles. Considerably great magnitude of ${\rho}xz$ (= 6.56) value is observed with the weakly basic nucleophiles, while ${\rho}xz$ = 0.91 with the strongly basic nucleophiles. Proposed reaction mechanism is a stepwise process with a rate-limiting leaving group expulsion from the intermediate involving a backside nucleophilic attack with the strongly basic nucleophiles and a frontside attack with the weakly basic nucleophiles. The kinetic results are compared with those of the benzylaminolysis of O,O-diphenyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates.

  • The objective of this research was to determine the Vlasov soil parameters for quadratically varying elasticity modulus $E_s$(z) of the compressible soil continuum and discuss the interaction affect between two close plates. Interaction problem carried on for uniformly distributed load carrying plates. Plate region was simulated by Kirchhoff plate theory based (mixed or displacement type) 2D elements and the foundation continuum was simulated by displacement type 2D elements. At the contact region, plate and foundation elements were geometrically coupled with each other. In this study the necessary formulas for the Vlasov parameters were derived when Young's modulus of the soil continuum was varying as a quadratic function of z-coordinate through the depth of the foundation. In the examples, first the elements and the iterative FE algorithm was verified and later the results of quadratic variation of $E_s$(z) were compared with the previous examples in order to discuss the general behavior. As a final example two plates close to each other resting on elastic foundation were handled to see their interaction influences on the Vlasov foundation parameters. Original examples were solved using both mixed and displacement type plate elements in order to confirm the results.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of Dongsasub training for the family caregivers of patients with dementia on their care burden, depression, and self-esteem. Methods: An one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used. Six family caregivers recruited from a support center for dementia in Seoul and participated in this study. Once a week, the Dongsasub training was provided for 90 minutes during eight weeks. Results: Depression was significantly lower (z=-2.01, p=.044), and self-esteem was significantly higher (z=-2.21, p=.027) than before Dongsasub training. However, care burden was not significantly different between pre and post program (z=-1.58, p=.115). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the Dongsasub training can be used as a nursing intervention in community settings to decrease depression and improve self-esteem for the family caregivers of patients with dementia.

  • Proximate composition, dimension, water uptake and volume increase rates of three cultivars of Korean kidney beans, Pink(PKB), Red(RKB) and White(WKB) were compared. Significant differences in the proximate composition and calorie were not observed among samples. Hull removed samples showed the lowest ash content and the highest calorie. The rates of water uptake increased as the soaking temperature increased from 10~4$0^{\circ}C$. The moisture gain of the kidney beans during soaking showed a similar pattern to volume increase. Water uptake and volume increase rates were in the decreasing order of PKB, RKB and WKB. Moisture and volume gains held a linear relation with the square root of soaking time regardless soaking temperatures. The activation energies of water uptake and volume increase were 3033~3087 and 3077~ 3161 kcal/mole, respectively. The log time to reach a fixed moisture content showed a linear relation with soaking temperature regardless soaking temperatures. The z-values calculated from weight and volume changes decreased in proportions to the increase of hydration. The z-values of weight and volume to reach 50% hydration were 50.5~56.6$^{\circ}C$ and 48.4~61.2$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • In this study, Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ ceramic thin films were fabricated from an alkoxide-based by Sol-Gel method. Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ stock solution was made and spin-coated on the Pt/ $SiO_{2}$/Si substrate at 4000[rpm] for 30[sec.]. Coated specimens were chied at 400[.deg. C] for 10[min]. The coating process was repeated 6 times and then heat-treated at 500-800[.deg. C] and 1 hour. The final thickness of the thin films were about 4800[.angs.]. The ferroelectric perovskite phases precipitated under the sintering of 700[.deg. C] for 1 hour. Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ thin films sintered at 700[.deg. C] for 1 hour showed good dielectric and ferroelectric properties.

  • For µ = (µ1, …, µt) (µj > 0), ξ = (z1, …, zt, w) ∈ ℂn1 × … × ℂnt × ℂm, define $${\Omega}({\mu},t)=\{{\xi}{\in}\mathbb{B}_{n_1}{\times}{\cdots}{\times}\mathbb{B}_{n_t}{\times}\mathbb{C}^m:{\parallel}w{\parallel}^2 where $\mathbb{B}_{n_j}$ is the unit ball in ℂnj (1 ≤ j ≤ t), C(χ, µ) is a constant only depending on χ = (n1, …, nt) and µ = (µ1, …, µt), which is a special type of generalized Cartan-Hartogs domain. We will give some sufficient and necessary conditions for the boundedness of some type of operators on Lp(Ω(µ, t), ω) (the weighted Lp space of Ω(µ, t) with weight ω, 1 < p < ∞). This result generalizes the works from certain classes of generalized complex ellipsoids to the generalized Cartan-Hartogs domain Ω(µ, t).

  • Mass measurement of high-redshift galaxy clusters with high accuracy is important in constraining cosmological parameters. Extremely massive clusters at high redshift may impose a serious tension with the current ΛCDM paradigm. SPT-CL J2040-4451 at z=1.48 is considered one such case given its redshift and mass estimate inferred from the SZ data. The system has also been confirmed to be indeed massive from a recent weak-lensing (WL) analysis. Comparison of the WL mass with the spectroscopic result may provide invaluable information on the dynamical stage of the system. However, the existing spectroscopic coverage of the cluster is extremely poor; only 6 blue star-forming galaxies have been found within the virial radius, which results in highly inflated and biased velocity dispersion. In this work, we present a spectroscopic analysis of the member candidates using Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs (GMOS) observation in Gemini South. The observation was designed to find early-type member galaxies within the virial radius and to obtain reliable velocity dispersion. We explain our selection scheme and preliminary results of the spectra. We also compare the dynamical mass estimate inferred from the velocity dispersion with the WL mass.

  • The variations of morphological features, density and biomass of vegetative shoots and characteristics of reproductive shoots of Zostera caespitosa were examined in Tongyeong, Korea. Morphological features such as leaf length, width and sheath length of Z. caespitosa showed significant seasonal variation (p < 0.001). The highest aboveground value was recorded in late spring to summer and the lowest value in winter. Density and biomass also showed seasonal variations. Annual average shoot density and biomass of Z. caespitosa were recorded as 1,223.4 leaf m-2 and 5,956.9 g w.w.m-2, respectively, and had the highest value in June and lowest values in November and January. Reproductive shoots were observed from April (13℃) to June (21℃). Pistils erected outside sheath, anther dehiscing and small embryos were found in April. Mature fruit and released seeds were found in May and June. These results suggest that this species had a high growth rate in late spring and early summer (15℃-20℃). Reproductive shoots of Z. caespitosa may initially appear at about 10℃ in spring and seed have been released at about 20℃ in fall.
