The Improvement of MTG Process for Preparation of YBCO superconductor

  • In the YBCO matrix, 10wt.% Y$_2$BaCuO$\_$5/ (211 phase) was added, the final 211 content of YBCO made by MTG process could reach about 20wt.% which was the optimum value for the critical current density. And also 10wt.% Ag was added in the matrix of YBCO, which was nearly about the saturate solubility of silver in textured YBCO. SmBaCuO crystal was grown by the melted-condensed process. A 5${\times}$5${\times}$2㎣ single crystal of SmBaCuO was used to be the seed in the preparation of YBCO. It was proved the orientation of YBCO was the same as the orientation of the SmBaCuO seed. The oxygen absorption of bulk oriented YBCO was studied and the heat treatment of oxygen absorption would be in flowing oxygen, at 400$^{\circ}C$ for about 24 hours. the magnetic hysteresis loops were measured by Vibrating Smaple Magnetometer and the J$\_$c/ was calcuated by means of Bean's model.

  • In this study, a new sintered specimens of Y$\_$1-x/Sm$\_$x/Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$\_$y/ is composed by substituting Sm for a part of Y in the YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$\_$y/ high Tc superconductor, in order to study of making (Y$.$Sm)-Ba-Cu-O system sintered specimens and their characteristics. An their change affected on superconductivity and their characteristics are studied by changing the x range of the composition rate. The resistances of electrical characteristics under the conditions of the composition and the temperature are measured by using Ac four probe method in the procedure of this experiments. And it is confirmed that the Meissner effect from the superconductivity of composed Sm system exists in the range of 0

Direct fabrication of a large grain YBCO bulk superconductor without intermediate grinding step

  • Large grain YBCO bulk superconductors are fabricated by the top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) or top-seeded infiltration growth (TSIG) method. Both growth methods use at least one of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$, $Y_2BaCuO_5$, $BaCuO_3$ pre-reacted precursor powders. However, the synthesis of the pre-reacted powders includes multiple calcination runs which are cost-bearing and time-consuming. In this work, we report the successful growth of single-domain YBCO bulk superconductors directly by using the powder compact that has been pressed from the mixture of $Y_2O_3$, $BaCuO_3$ and CuO powders without any intermediate grinding step. Single-domain YBCO bulk superconductor has been also prepared by using $Y_2O_3$, $BaO_2$ and CuO powders without intermediate grinding step. Investigations on the trapped magnetic field and microstructure of the melt-processed specimen show that the elimination of the repeated processes of calcinations and pulverization has hardly affected on the crystal growth and the magnetic properties of the grown YBCO bulk superconductors. However, it is thought that the presence of residual carbon affects on the size of Y211 particles in melt-processed YBCO bulk superconductor.

Distribution of Pr ions in $Y(Ba_{1-Xn}Pr_{Xn})_2Cu_3O_y$

  • Distribution of Pr ions between Y- and Ba-site of the $Y(Ba_{1-Xn}Pr_{Xn})_2Cu_3O_y$ ($0{\leq}Xn{\leq}{0.3}$, Xn : nominal composition) material prepared by the solid state reaction method was studied. Although the samples have narrow superconducting transition, tiny peaks of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ impurity phase are included in the x-ray diffraction patterns suggesting that some of the Pr ions are entered into the Y-site. The distribution of Pr ions between Y- and Ba-site was determined by measuring the mass fraction of YBCO and $Y_2BaCuO_5$ phase for each sample through the Rietveld analysis of the x-ray diffraction data. About 60 % of Pr ions occupy the Y-site regardless of the Pr content. Various superconducting parameters such as the oxygen content and the hole concentration etc. are compared before and after the impurity correction.

존멜팅법을 이용한 원통형 (YSmNd)-Ba-Cu-O계 초전도체의 결정성장 및 수송 전류 특성 (Crystal growth and transport current properties of cylindrical (YSmNd)-Ba-Cu-O superconductors by zone melt growth method)

  • 존멜팅법을 이용해서 $(YSmNd)_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_{7-x}$계 고온초전도체를 대기 중에서 용융성장실험을 하였다. 존멜팅법의 최적용융온도는 $1100^{\circ}C$였으며 성장속도는 3.5 mm/h 였다. 한 방향으로 용융성장 된 (YSN)1.8 초전도체는 XRD, 광학현미경, TEM을 이용하여 미세구조를 관찰하였으며 SQUID magnetometer와 직접전류수송법을 이용해 초전도특성을 평가하였다. 특히 용융성장 된 (YSN)1.8 초전도체의 광학현미경에 의한 미세구조 관측 결과 초전도상인 (YSN)123 matrix내에 비초전도상인 (YSN)211 inclusions이 균질하게 분포되어 있는 것이 관측되었다. 또한 용융성장 된 (YSN)1.8 초전도체는 90 K 이상의 임계온도 특성을 보였으며 액체질소 안에서 직접전류수송법으로 측정한 결과 수송전류 830 A에서 $3.93{\times}10^4$(A/$cm^2$)를 갖는 높은 임계전류밀도 특성을 보였다.

Enhanced Superconducting Properties in Melt-processed (Y0.33Sm0.33Nd0.33) Ba2Cu3Oy Oxides in Air

  • We have systematically studied the superconducting properties and flux pinning enhancement of $(Y_{0.33}Sm_{0.33}Nd_{0.33})\;Ba_2Cu_3O_y$ [(YSN)-123] composite oxides by melt growth process in air. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.33}Sm_{0.33}Nd_{0.33})\;BaCuO_5$ [(YSN)211] nonsuperconducting particles were uniformly dispersed in large (YSN) 123 superconducting matrix. The sample showed a sharp superconducting transition at 91 K. The magnetization measurements of the (YSN)-123 sample exhibited the enhanced flux pinning, compared with $YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ (Y-123) sample without Sm and Nd. Critical current densities of (YSN)-123 sample was $2.5{\times}10^4 A/cm^2$ at 2 T and 77 K.

  • For the fabrication of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ thick film using diffusion process between $Y_3$BaCuO$_{5}$ and BaO+CuO, each material was selected as substrate and doping material. In this paper, we investigated the characteristic of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ thick film due to both addition of CeO$_2$into substrate and initial particle size of doping material. Through X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM photographs, the variation of composition and thickness of the formed phase was observed. It was from the experiment obtained that the addition of CeO$_2$into $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ substrate and the initial particle size of doping material play important part in promoting the reaction between substrate and doping material.aterial.

Flux법에 의한 초전도체 YBa2Cu3O7-x 단결정 육성 (Growth of Superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-x Single Crystal by Flux Method)

  • YBa2Cu3O7-x(=YBCO) single crystals were grown by flux method and the growing process of crystals was investigated. YBCO and 3BaO-7CuO composition powders were mixed by the ratio of 25 : 75(wt%), and the mixtures were melted at 105$0^{\circ}C$ in a electric furnace with no temperature-gradient. Then the melt was cooled at a rate 2-1$0^{\circ}C$/h in the above furnace. YBCO single crystal plate with average size of $1.5\times$2.0$\times$0.1㎣ were obtained in the cavities between crucible and solidified ingot, and the single crystals were oriented to <001> direction. The ingots of flux parts were analyzed by XRD and EDS for the purpose of presuming the growing process of the crystals. It was assumed that the divorced eutectic reaction, by which YBCO crystals were grown first and then BaCuO2 and CuO crystals, occured in the case of cooling rate faster than 2$^{\circ}C$/h. When the cooling rate was 2$^{\circ}C$/h, it was assumed that quasi-equilibrium eutectic reaction occured, so that YBCO, BaCuO2 and CuO crystals were grown at the same time.

Y-Ba-Ca-O 초전도체에서 천이금속(Ni)의 효과 (Effect of Transition-Metal (Ni) on the Superconductor Y-Ba-Cu-O)

  • The X-ray diffraction pattern, electrical resistance, density and critical temperature of a series of YBa2(Cu3-xNix)O7-\ulcornersamples (0\ulcorner\ulcorner.5) were investigated with the increase of the Ni content. The samples show a principal 1.2.3-like phase with well resolved orthorhombic peaks. The final pattern of the x=0.1 sample appears to be well reacted orthorhombic YBa2(Cu,Ni)3O7-\ulcornerwith minor impurities and an appreciable amorphous fraction. From the above results, we conclude that Ni does not play an important role for the superconductivity in the Y-Ba-Cu-O system.
