Synthesis of nanoporous $TiO_2$ films for dye-sensitized solar cells application (염료태양전지용 다공질 구조 $TiO_2$ 박막 제작 및 특성 평가)

  • 본 연구에서는 Ketjen black을 이용한 DSCs (Dye-sensitized solar cells)용 다공질의 $TiO_2$ nano-powder 제작기술을 제안한다. $TiO_2$ powder는 sol-gel연소법에 의해 Ti-isopropoxide와 2-propanol을 사용하여 제작되었으며, Ketjen black의 함량($0g{\sim}2g$)을 달리하여 제작된 $TiO_2$ nano-powder의 다공성과 입자의 크기 결정성등의 특성을 고찰하였다. 또한 이러한 $TiO_2$ powder를 paste로 만들어 다른 열처리 온도($100^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$)에서 $TiO_2$ 박막을 이용한 DSCs를 제작한 후 그 효율을 측정하였다. 그 결과 Ketjen black 1g을 함유시켜 만들어진 $TiO_2$ powder의 다공성과 입자 크기가 가장 우수한 것으로 FE-SEM의 측정결과 나타났으며 또한 이 때의 $TiO_2$ powder는 FT-IR의 측정 결과, Ti-O-Ti의 결합구조를 가진 성분과 $H_2O$ 성분으로 구성되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 여러 온도에서 제작된 DSCs 실험 셀 중 $500^{\circ}C$의 열처리 공정을 거적 제작된 셀의 효율이 가장 높은 효율이 5.46%를 나타내고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • During the process of synthesis of $TiO_2$ powders using a high-speed planetary milling machine, Fe metallic powders were created which could be dissolved in sulfuric acid solution. With adding $NH_4OH$ solution to the $TiO_2$ powder, it was found that the crystal structure of the synthesized powder did not change and the crystal size decreased slightly. However, when the sulfur powder is mixed with $TiO_2$, the crystal structure of the MA powder was changed from anatase into rutile phase and its size decreased significantly which is in the order of nm in diameter. In case of mechanical alloying with $TiO_2$ powder only, the crystal structure of the powder was transformed into rutile phase and its size was greatly reduced into several nm. Because its size becomes fine, the energy band gap of its rutile phase is larger than that of bulk states (3.0eV).

  • $BaTiO_3$ ceramics powder was prepared by coprecipitation method either in oxalic acid solution or in potassium hydroxide solution. Thermal decomposition of coprecipitated $BaTiO(C_2O_4)_2$.$4H_2O$ powder in oxalic acid solution was investigated by means of Themogravimetry Differential Thermal Analysis and X-ray Diffraction Analysis. Low temperature decomposition of coprecipitated $BaTiO(C_2O_4)_2$.$4H_2O$ caused narrow particle size distribution whereas high temperature decomposition caused fairly wide particle size distribution by partial sintering. As the reaction time increased the average particle size of coprecipitated $BaTiO_3$ powder in KOH solution was increased. The most narrow paticle size distribution was obtained when the coprecipi-tates were ripened for 4hrs.

  • Ultrafine TiC-5%Co powders were synthesized by spray drying of aqueous solution of TiO$(OH)_2$ slurry and cobalt nitrate, followed by calcination and carbothermal reaction. The oxide powders with carbon powder was reduced and carburized at $900^{\circ}C{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$ under hydrogen atmosphere. During reduction, CO gas was mainly evolved by reducing reaction of oxides. Ultrafine TiC-5%Co powders were easily formed by carbothermal reaction at $1250^{\circ}C$ due to using ultrafine powders as raw materials. The ultrafine WC-TiC-Co alloy prepared by sintering of mixed powder of ultrafine WC-13%Co powder and ultrafine TiC-5%Co powder has higher sintered density and mechanical properties than WC-TiC-Co alloy prepared by commercial WC, TiC and Co powders.

Fabrication of Photocatalytic TiO2 thin Film Using Aerosol Deposition Method and its Filtration Characteristics (에어로졸 증착법을 이용한 광촉매 TiO2 박막 제조 및 박막의 여과 특성)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of operational parameters such as rotation speed and vibrating milling time for the fabrication of photocatalytic $TiO_2$ thin film using aerosol deposition methods. $TiO_2$ powders produced in the range of 1,000-3,000 rpm of rotation speed of centrifugal separator are ineffective on the fabrication of $TiO_2$ thin film by aerosol deposition due to the problem of nozzle powder jam. $TiO_2$ powders controlled by vibrating milling had about 420 nm of average diameter after 2 hr of vibrating milling time. The result of XRD analysis indicated that $TiO_2$ powders had a anatase phase. Vibrating milling methods was considered to be an effective pre-treatment process for $TiO_2$ powder control. Consequently $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film with dispersion of anatase crystallites controled by vibrating milling was successfully fabricated by aerosol deposition. The permeation flux of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film with the immobilized $TiO_2$ powder was higher than that of suspended $TiO_2$ powder. Therefore, $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film promises to be one of the effective methods for enhancing filtration performance for the treatment of organic pollutants.

Photocatalysis Characteristics of Nano Cu/TiO2 Composite Powders Fabricated from Salt Solution (염용액으로부터 제조된 Cu/TiO2복합분말의 광촉매 특성)

  • In the present study, $TiO_2$ imbedded copper matrix powders have been successfully prepared from the ($CuSO_4+TiO_2+Zn$) composite salt solution. The composite $Cu/TiO_2$ powders were formed by drying the solution at $200{\sim}~400^{\circ}C$ in the hydrogen atmosphere. Photocatalytic characteristics was evaluated by detecting TOC (total organic carbon) amount with TOC analyzer (model 5000A Shimadzu Co). Phase analysis of $Cu/TiO_2$ composite powders was carried out by XRD, DSC and powder size was measured with TEM. The mean particle size of composite powders was about 100 nm and a few zinc and copper oxide phases was included. The reduction ratio of TOC amount was 60% by the composite $Cu/TiO_2$ powders under the UV irradiation for 8 hours.

Fabrication of Photocatalytic $TiO_2$ Thin Film Using Aerosol Deposition Method (Aerosol Deposition 법을 이용한 광촉매 $TiO_2$ 박막 제조)

  • We fabricates the $TiO_2$ thin film from anatase phase $TiO_2$ powder having good photocatalytic property using aerosol deposition method at room temperature. Aerosol deposition method, which sprays an aerosol powder with ultrasonic velocity and deposits a thin film on substrate at low temperature, has the advantages of low thermal stress and low cost. To fabricate the $TiO_2$ thin film, the aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure were 500 torr and 0.4 torr, respectively. The difference of aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure accelerated the $TiO_2$ nano powder to ultrasonic velocity through the nozzle of $0.4 mm{\times}10 mm$ and $TiO_2$ thin film was finally formed. SS mesh with diameter of 50 mm was used as a substrate to apply the $TiO_2$ thin film to water quality purification. The raw powder was dehydrated for the good dispersion of $TiO_2$ powder. To suppress the formation of second particle, the powder was dispersed for 90 min in alcohol bath by ultrasonic treatment and desiccated. The grain size of $1 {\mu}m$ was observed in $TiO_2$ thin film deposited on SUS mesh by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The anatase phase of $TiO_2$ thin film was also observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the anatase phase of raw powder was nicely maintained after aerosol deposition. The results are applicable to water treatment filter having photocatalytic reaction.

Photo Catalytic Ability of Acicular Shaped TiO$_{2}$ Rutile Powder in Aqueous Metal-EDTA Solutions

  • Photo catalytic characteristics of nano-sized TiO$_2$ powder with rutile phase produced using homogeneous precipitation process at low temperatures (HPPLT) were compared with those of commercial P-25 powder by Degussa Co. The TiO$_2$ powder by HPPLT showed very higher photoactivity in the removal rate, showing lower pH values in the solution, than the P-25 powder when eliminating metal ions such as Pb and Cu from aqueous metal-EDTA solutions. This can be inferred the more rapid photo-oxidation or -reduction of metal ions from the aqueous solution, together with relatively higher efficiencies in the use of electron-hole pair formed on the surface of TiO$_2$ particle, under UV light irradiation. Also, in the view of the TiO$_2$ particle morphology, compared to the well-dispersed spherical P-25 particle, the agglomerated TiO$_2$ particle by HPPL T consists of acicular typed primary particle with the thickness ranged of 3∼7 nm, which would be more effective to the photocatalytic reactions without electron-hole recombination on the surface of the TiO$_2$ particle under the UV light irradiation. It is, therefore, thought that the higher photo activity of the rutile TiO$_2$ powder by HPPLT in the aqueous solutions resulted from having its higher specific surface area as well as acicular shape primary particle with very thin thickness.

Preparation and Characterization of Fine $TiO_2$ Powders by Vapor-Phase Hydrolysis of TiCl4 (사염화티타늄의 기상가수분해반응에 의한 $TiO_2$ 미분의 제조 및 입자특성)

  • TiO2 fine powder was synthesized in the gas phase by chemical vapor deposition using hydrolysis of TiCl4. Content of rutile phase in the powder was investigated. Powder characteristics such as size, crystallinity and morphology were also studied by means of TEM, SEM and XRD. Rutile phase in TiO2 powder started to be formed from 100$0^{\circ}C$ and the content increased with the reaction temperature and TiCl4 concentration. As the temperature increased from 80$0^{\circ}C$ to 140$0^{\circ}C$, the primary particle size increased while secondary particle size decreased. Spherical secondary particle with fine primary crystals agglomerated was produced at low temperature of 80$0^{\circ}C$ whereas the grown primary particle being final particle size was produced at higher temperature of 140$0^{\circ}C$. Other effects of TiCl4 and H2O partial pressures on particle size were also reported in this study.

  • Al2TiO5 powder was prepared by the sol-gel processing from th metal alkoxides ; aluminium sec-butoxide (Al(OC4H9)3 and tetraethyl orthotitanate (Ti(OC2H5)4) The particles of Al2TiO5 produced from alkoxides were measured to be below $1.5mutextrm{m}$ and mre than 90% weere below 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ however those from commercial alumina and titania were over 0.5-7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and only 60% were below 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 90% were below 2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Therefore Al2TiO5 powder produced from alkoxides had the narrower distributionin size than that produced from the commercial alumina and titania powders. The addition of mullite or Al2O3 powder to the prepared aluminum titanate inhibited the grain growth and this resulted in decreased and increase in density.
