Studied on the Crystallization of $Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ Glass by Adding $TiO_2$ and $ZrO_2$ ($TiO_2$$ZrO_2$의 첨가에 따르는 $Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ 계 유리의 결정화에 관한 연구)

  • The effect of additions, $TiO_2$ and $ZrO_2$ as nucleant on the base glass which composition was determined to 0.97 $Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ has been investigated by means of D.T.A., X-ray diffraction and dilatation. $TiO_2$ and $ZrO_2$ as nucleant were added 0.06mole, in which ratios of $TiO_2$/$ZrO_2$ were varied 1/0, 2/1, 1/1, 1/2 and 0/1. The crystalline phases were appeared to $\beta$-spodumene as principal, $\beta$-eucryptite and $ZrO_2$ as secondary, regardless of nucleant variations. The crystallinity of the crystallized glass added $TiO_2$, $ZrO_2$ mixture as nucleant was higher than that of the glass added $TiO_2$ or $ZrO_2$ only. The crystallinity of the glass added $TiO_2$/$ZrO_2$ =1/1 was highest. Increasing the addition of $ZrO_2$, it has been observed that the crystal growing temperature became higher.

  • The Powder characteristics and sintering behavior of $SiO_2$ coated $BaTiO_3$ were studied. $BaTiO_3$ powders were synthesized by the liquid mix method developed by Pechini, and silica coating was prepared by alkoxide hydrolysis method with TEOS and ethanol. The particle size of the $BaTiO_3$ powders was 35 nm and the thickness of the $SiO_2$ coating layer was 5 nm. As the $SiO_2$ content increased, the $SiO_2$ layers improved the powder dispersion by increasing electrostatic repulsion between the $BaTiO_3$ particles. Effects of MgO coating on microstructure and dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$ have been studied compared with mechanically MgO mixed $BaTiO_3$. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ particles were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method using $MgCl_2\cdot 6H_2O$ and urea. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ exhibited homogeneous microstructure compared with mixed samples. XRD analysis revealed that Mg substitution for the Ti site in the MgO mixed sample was much greater than in the coated one. Electrical properties of MgO mixed and coated $BaTiO_3$ were affected by the diffusion behavior of Mg in $BaTiO_3$ lattice.

Preparation of $PES-TiO_2$ Hybrid Membranes and Evaluation of Membrane Properties ($PES-TiO_2$ 복합막의 제조 및 막 특성 평가)

  • The polyethersulfone(PES)-titanium oxide($TiO_2$) hybrid membranes were prepared by immersion precipitation phase inversion method. The casting solution for the preparation of $PES-TiO_2$ hybrid membrane was provided by adding $TiO_2$ nano particles into the basis polymer solution of 14 wt% and 20 wt% PES/N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP). The $TiO_2$ loading [wt% ($TiO_2/NMP$)] in eating solution was varied from 0 to 60 wt%. Membrane performance and morphological change of the resulting $PES-TiO_2$ hybrid membranes were discussed in aspect of $TiO_2$ loading, by viscosity, coagulation value and light transmittance of the casting solution, measurement of tensile strength, pore size and contact angle, surface and cross sectional SEM images of the hybrid membrane, and ultrafiltration experiments using the hybrid membrane. According as increase of $TiO_2$ loading in the casting solution, viscosity is increased and coagulation value becomes lower, therefore the thermodynamic instability of the casting solution is increased. It is found that when $TiO_2$ loading is increased, 1) precipitation rate becomes faster while instantaneous demixing is maintained, 2) pure water flux, membrane pore size and compaction stability of the resulting membranes are increased, 3) tensile strength and contact angle are decreased. Dead-end ultrafiltration of bovine serum albumin(BSA) solution using the hybrid membrane shows that membrane performance(flux of BSA solution) enhanced up to 7 times compared with the results obtained using the pure PES membrane(not containing $TiO_2$ particle), due to the increase of hydrophilicity.

  • Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of $TiO_{2$\pm}{\delta}$ has been carried out using TEMAT [tetrakis(ethylmethylamido) titanium] and $H_2$. Increasing the power from 300 W to 500 W produced the high density plasma, leading to the formation of TiO$_2$films with an increased ratio of Ti to O and a negligible amount of C and N. Applying the bias of 30W to the substrate in creased the growth rate of the film with a slightly increased content of Ti in the film. In addition, $H_2O$ was from either the residual gas in the gase pressure or $H_2(/He)$ gas and actively participated in the formation of $TiO_2$ films. Consequently, Ti ions created in the plasma could be a main contributor to $TiO_2$ formation with a slight amount of $H_2O(~10^{-4}Toor)$ in the ambient, which provided the dissociation of TEMAT.

  • The effects of $TiO_2$ in the glasses on the shrinkage and dielectric properties of BNT-glass composites have been investigated. Without $TiO_2$ addition, BNT-glass composite showed two humps in the shrinkage curve, which are related with crystallization of $BaTi(BO_3)_2\;and\;Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$. However, the increase of $TiO_2$ addition resulted in the decrease of 2nd hump in the shrinkage. The increased dielectric constant with $TiO_2$ addition might be due to the reduced crystallization of $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$. A dielectric constant of 52, a quality factor of 5088 GHz, and a temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of $-0.16ppm/^{\circ}C$ were obtained for a specimen containing $TiO_2$-added glasses, without sacrificing the benefits of high ${\varepsilon}_r$ and low TCF of BNT ceramics.

Photodegradation of Phenol over TiO2-SiO2 Catalysts Prepared by Sol-gel Method (졸-겔법으로 제조한 TiO2-SiO2촉매에서 페놀의 광분해 반응)

  • Photocatalytic degradation of phenol was carried out with UV-illuminated TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ in aqueous suspension. TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method from the titanium isopropoxide and tetraethylorthosilicate at different Ti/Si ratio and some commercial TiO$_2$ catalysts were used as purchased. All catalysts were characterized by X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and BET surface area analyzer. The effect of reaction conditions, such as initial concentration of phenol, reaction temperature and catalyst weight on the photocatalytic activity was studied. In addition, TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$(49: 1) prepared by sol-gel method showed higher activity than commercial TiO$_2$catalysts on the photocatalytic degradation of phenol. The addition of SiO$_2$ into TiO$_2$hepled to increase the thermal stability of titania which suppressed the formation of anatase into rutile. The photocatalytic degradation of phenol showed pseudo-1st order reaction and the degradation rate increases with decreasing initial phenol concentration.

Study on Antibacterial Activity of Ag Nanometal-deposited TiO2 Prepared by Sonochemical Reduction Method (초음파환원법에 의해 제조된 Ag-TiO2의 항균 활성도 고찰)

  • In this work, Ag-$TiO_2$ nanocomposites were prepared via the sonochemical deposition of Ag nanometals on $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. The size of deposited Ag nanometals was ranged in 1~3 nm and the number of Ag nanometals deposited on $TiO_2$ increased in proportion to the dosage amounts of Ag precursors. As-prepared Ag-$TiO_2$ was loaded on the sterilized agar plate together with an aliquot volume of diluted E-coli, followed by 30 min irradiation of the solar simulated light ($600{\sim}1800{\mu}w/cm^2$). Finally, the agar plate was incubated for 24 h at $37^{\circ}C$ and the number of survived colonies were counted. It was experimentally confirmed that Ag-$TiO_2$ exhibited the higher antimicrobial activity than that of pure $TiO_2$, based on measuring the colony number of control sample. The survived colony numbers on the agar plate decreased with the increase of dosage amounts of Ag-$TiO_2$ and the irradiated intensity of solar simulated light for 30 min before incubating. The increase of Ag nanometal doposition induced the progressive enhancement of antimicrobial activity, but rather reduced the photocatalytic activity of Ag-$TiO_2$ probably due to the excessive presence of Ag nanometals on $TiO_2$ matrix.

Ferroelectric Phase Transition Behavior in $(Na_{1/2}Bi_{1/2})TiO_3-PbTiO_3$ System ($(Na_{1/2}Bi_{1/2})TiO_3-PbTiO_3$ 고용체의 강유전 상전이 거동)

  • The morphotropic phase boundary and phase transitions of the solid solutiion system, (1-x)(Na1/2Bi1/2)TiO3-PbTiO3+xPbTiO3 were studied by investigating changes in crystal structure, variations in permittivity with temperature, and calorimetric behavior. It was observed that the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) of this solid solutiion system was at near 14 mol% of PbTiO3. Compositions containing less than 10mol% PbTiO3 (x<0.1) exhibited a phase transition, i.e. ferroelectric rhombohedrallongrightarrowparaelectric paraelectric cubic, with increasing temperature. Composition containing more than 14 mol% PbTiO3 (x 0.14) showed a phase transition from ferroelectric tetragonal to paraelectric cubic. In the composition range of 0.1$\varepsilon$ (T) curve, which coincided with a phase transition from ferroelectric rhombohedral to an intermediate phase, was also found.

  • While sintering the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3-BaTiO3 system through solid-reaction route, pyrochlore(Pb3Nb4O13) phase while reduces the dielectric constant is inevitably formed. Substitution of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 with PbTiO3 and BaTiO3 can retard the occurrence of pyrochlore phase. The perovskite solid-solution without containing pyrochlore phase can be obtained when we consolidated the materials consisting of PbTiO3 and BaTiO3 at 1200℃ for 2 hours. The sintered body composed of 0.8Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.1PbTiO3-0.1BaTiO3 composition showed the diffused phase transition(DPT) phenomena and the maximum value of dielectric constant at 0℃ (Tc') with the value of 1.3×104.

Study on the Photocatalytic Characteristic and Activity of Cu2O/TiO2 Heterojunction Prepared by Ultrasonification (초음파 합성 적용 Cu2O/TiO2 이종접합 소재의 특성 및 활성도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • In the current study, a Cu2O/TiO2 photoinduced nanocomposite materials prepared by ultrasonification method was evaluated the photocatalytic oxidation efficiency of volatile organic compounds (BTEX) under visible-light irradiation. The results of XRD confirmed the successful preparation of photoinduced nanocomposite materials. However, diffraction peaks belonging to TiO2 were not confirmed for the Cu2O/TiO2. The possible reason for the absence of Cu2O peak is their low content and small particle size. The result of uv-vis spectra exhibited that the fabricated Cu2O/TiO2 can be activated under visible light irradiation. The FE-SEM/EDS and TEM showed the formation of synthesized nanocomposites and componential analysis in the undoped TiO2 and Cu2O/TiO2. The photocatalytic oxidation efficiencies of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and o-xylene with Cu2O/TiO2 were higher than undoped TiO2. According to light sources, the average oxidation efficiencies for BTEX by Cu2OT-0.5 were exhibited in the orer of 8 W day light > violet LEDs > white LEDs. However, the photocatalytic oxidation efficiencies normalized to supplied electric power were calculated to be in the following order of violet LEDs > white LEDs > 8 W day light, indicating that the LEDs could be a much more energy efficient light source for the photo-oxidation of gaseous BTEX using Cu2O/TiO2.
