  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanism of vasodilation of Lespedezea cuneata(LC) in rabbit common carotid artery and cavernosal smooth muscle. LC relaxed arterial strips precontracted with norepinephrine and cavernosal strips precontracted with phenylephrine. The arterial relaxation effects of LC was endothelium-dependent. $N{\omega}$-nitro-L-arginine(L-NNA), NOS inhibitor, methylene blue(MB), cGMP inhibitor, indomethacin(IM), cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor and tetraethylammonium chloride(TEA), KCa-channel blocker attenuate the relaxation responses of LC in arterial strips. In $Ca^{2+}$-free krebs-ringer solution, pretreatment of LC extract significantly reduced the contraction induced by addition $Ca^{2+}$. L-NNA reduced LC extract-induced relaxation in cavernosal strips, but IM, TEA and MB didn't affect LC extract-induced relaxation. When LC extract was applicated on human umbilical vein endothelial cell, the nitric oxide concentration was increased. We conclude that in rabbit common carotid artery, LC may suppress influx of extra-cellular $Ca^{2+}$ through the release of endothelium derived relaxing factor including nitric oxide, prostacyclin, endothelium derived hyperpolarizing factor. And LC exerts a relaxing effect on corpus cavernosum through activating the NO.

  • The flow characteristics of the transitional oscillatory flows are investigated analytically and experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct. The systems of conservation equations are analytically solved by linearizing the non-linear convective terms for the developing transitional oscillatory flows in a square duct. The analytical solutions are obtained in the form of infinite series for the velocity profiles. The experimental study for the air flow in a square duct is carried out to measure the velocity profiles and waveforms by using a hot-wire anemometer with the data acquisition and processing systems. The theoretical and experimental results provide the major characteristics of the developing transitional oscillatory flows, such as velocity profiles, velocity waveforms, and entrance length. The velocity profiles in the decelerating phase are larger than those in the accelerating phase for the developing transitional oscillatory flows. The correlations of the entrance length of the transitional oscillatory flows in a square duct are found to be $Le/Dh=K{\cdot}Re_{os}/2({\omega}^+)^2$, where K is 1.23 of an experimental constant.

  • Aeroacoustic computation of a fully-developed turbulent pipe flow at $Re_{\tau}=175$ and M = 0.1 is conducted by LES/LPCE hybrid method. The generation and propagation of acoustic waves are computed by solving the linearized perturbed compressible equations (LPCE), with acoustic source DP(x,t)/Dt attained by the incompressible large eddy simulation (LES). The computed acoustic power spectral density is closely compared with the wall shear-stress dipole source of a turbulent channel flow at $Re_{\tau}=175$. A constant decaying rate of the acoustic power spectrum, $f^{-8/5}$ is found to be related to the turbulent bursts of the correlated longitudinal structures such as hairpin vortex and their merged structures (or hairpin packets). The power spectra of the streamwise velocity fluctuations across the turbulent boundary layer indicate that the most intensive noise at ${\omega}^+$ < 0.1 is produced in the buffer layer with fluctuations of the longitudinal structures ($k_zR$ < 1.5).

  • We consider the following Dirichlet initial boundary value problem with a gradient absorption and a nonlocal source $$\frac{{\partial}u}{{\partial}t}-div({\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^{p-2}{\nabla}u)={\lambda}u^k{\displaystyle\smashmargin{2}{\int\nolimits_{\Omega}}}u^sdx-{\mu}u^l{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^q$$ in a bounded domain Ω ⊂ ℝN, where p > 1, the parameters k, s, l, q, λ > 0 and µ ≥ 0. Firstly, we establish local existence for weak solutions; the aim of this part is to prove a crucial priori estimate on |∇u|. Then, we give appropriate conditions in order to have existence and uniqueness or nonexistence of a global solution in time. Finally, depending on the choices of the initial data, ranges of the coefficients and exponents and measure of the domain, we show that the non-negative global weak solution, when it exists, must extinct after a finite time.

  • Superconducting $MgB_2$ fibers are in-situ grown by a diffusion method. The fibers are prepared by exposing B filaments to Mg vapor inside a folded Ta foil over a wide range of temperature and growth time. The materials are sealed inside a quartz tube by gas welding. The as - grown fibers are characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x - ray analysis. The fibers have a diameter of about $110{\mu}m$. Surface morphology of the fibers looks dependent on growth temperature and mixing ratio of Mg and B. Radial distribution of Mg ions into B is observed and analyzed over the cross - sectional area. Transport properties of the $MgB_2$ fibers are examined by a physical property measurement system. The $MgB_2$ fibers grown at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours show a superconducting transition at 39.8K with ${\Delta}T_c<$ 2.0 K. Resistance at room temperature $MgB_2$ is 3.745 $\Omega$ and residual resistivity ratio (RRR) is estimated as 4.723.

  • The new empirical static model was constructed on the basis of dimension analysis to predict the pressure drop according to the operating conditions. The empirical static model consists of the initial pressure drop term (${\Delta}P_{initial}$) and the dust mass number term($N_{dust}=\frac{{\omega}_0{\nu}_f}{P_{pulse}t}$), and two parameters (dust deposit resistance and exponent of dust mass number) have been estimated from experimental data. The optimum injection distance was identified in the 64 experimental data at the fixed filtration velocity and pulse pressure. The dust deposit resistance ($K_d$), one of the empirical static model parameters got the minimum value at d=0.11m, at which the total pressure drop was minimized. The exponent of dust mass number was interpreted as the elasticity of pressure drop to the dust mass number. The elasticity of the unimodal behavior had also a maximum value at d=0.11m, at which the pressure drop increased most rapidly with the dust mass number. Additionally, the correlation coefficient for the new empirical static model was 0.914.

  • This paper presents a study of the effects of the free surface to marine propeller including the mesh effect of the models. In the present study, we conduct the numerical simulation for propeller performance employing the openwater test. The numerical simulations compare the meshing strategies for the propeller and show the effects on both thrust and torque. OpenFOAM is applied to solve the propeller problem and then open water performances of KCS propeller (KP505) are estimated using a Reynold-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) solver and the turbulence of the $K-{\omega}$ SST model. Unstructured meshes are used in the numerical simulation employing hexahedral meshing for mesh generation. The arbitrary mesh interfacing (AMI) and multiple rotating frame (MRF) are compared to define the best meshing strategy. The meshing strategies are evaluated through 3 classifications, i.e., coarse, medium, and fine mesh. Thus, the propeller can be performed utilizing the best mesh strategy. The computational results are validated by comparison with the experimental results. The $K_T$, $K_Q$, and efficiency of the propeller are compared to an experimental result and for all of the meshing strategies. Thus, the simulations show the influence of meshing in order to perform the propeller performances.

  • The fabrication of Y-Ba-Cu-O films and experimental factors affecting to characteristics of films are studied in detail. Superconducting thick films are fabricated by the screen printing method. The metal-citrate precursors are obtained simply by mixing of metal nitrate with citric acid. The particle size of heat treated powders is approximately 0.3-1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the thickness of film is estimated as 30-35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. According to the XRD analysis, the films sintered at 870-93$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min. -6hr with P(oxygen)=1atm has the unique orthorhombic crystal symmetry indicating the 123 phae. Tc, onset is determined around 92-87。K, but it shows semiconducting behavior probably due to the oxygen deficiency in the lattice, porosity and impurities in films. Extrapolated Tc, zero is estimated as 76-50。K. For films sintered at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, superconducting properties are observed with the room temperature resistivity of 0.025$\Omega$.cm Tc, onset at 88。K and Tc, zero at 63。K.

  • The mechanical and electrical properties of hot-pressed and annelaed $\beta$-SiC+39vol.% $ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6:4 wt%). In this microstructures, no reactions and elongated $\alpha$-SiC grains with equiaxed $ZrB_2$ grains were observed between $\beta$-SiC and $ZrB_2$. The properties of the $\beta$-SiC+39vol.%$ZrB_2$ composites with 4wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ at R.T. are as follows: fracture toughness is 6.37 MPa.m1/2, electical resistivity is $1.51\times10^{-4}\Omega \cdot\textrm{cm}$ and the relative density is 98.6% of the theoretical density. The fracture toughness of the $\beta$-SiC+39 vol.% $ZrB_2$ composites were weakly decreased with increasing amount of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives. Internal stresses due to the difference of $\beta$-SiC and $ZrB_2$ thermal expansion coefficient and elastic modulus mismatch appeared to contribute to fracture toughening in $\beta$-SiC+39vol.%$ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites.
