Synthesis and Photoluminescence of the Sr1-xBaxAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ Long Phosphorescence Phosphor (Sr1-xBaxAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+계 축광성 형광체의 합성과 그의 발광특성)

  • In this study, the $Sr_{1-x}Ba_{x}Al_{2}O_{4}:Eu^{2+},Dy^{3+}$ phosphor were prepared by the solid-state reaction method and its photoluminescence properties were investigated. Starting powders of $SrCO_3,\;BaCO_3,\;and\;Al_{2}O_3$ were mixed with $Eu_{2}O_3$ as activator, $Dy_{2}O_3$ as co-activator and $B_{2}O_3$ as flux. Then, the mixed powders were heated at the temperature of $1100{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h under the reducing ambient atmosphere of $95%Ar+5%H_2$. The effect of Ba addition from 0.0 to 1.0 mol on photoluminescence was investigated. As the amount of Ba increased, the intensity of emission increased and the optimum long phosphorescence occurred at the amount of 0.1 mol Ba. The optimum sintering condition for long phosphorescent phosphor of $Sr_{1-x}Ba_{x}Al_{2}O_{4}:Eu^{2+},Dy^{3+}$($x=0{\sim}1.0mol$) was found at $1400^{\circ}C$. The excitation spectra showed a broad band of $250{\sim}450nm$ with maximum peak at 360 nm. The maximum peak intensity of emission spectra occurred at the range of $480{\sim}520nm$, depending on Ba content.

  • Strontium-substituted $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+},\;Dy^{3+}$ compositions were prepared by the solid state synthesis method. These compositions were characterized for their phase, crystallinity and morphology using powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Photoluminescence properties were investigated by measuring excitation spectra, emission spectra and decay time for varying Ba/Sr concentrations. Photoluminescence results show higher luminescence and long decay time for $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+},\;Dy^{3+}$(x=0). This is probably due to the influence of the 5d electron states of $Eu^{2+}$ in the crystal field. Long persistence was observed for these compositions due to $Dy^{3+}$ co-doping.

  • [ $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_4F:Eu_x^{3+}$ ](A = Ca, Sr, Ba, x = -0.15, z = 0, 0.1) oxyfluoride phosphors were simply prepared by the solid-state method at $1050^{\circ}C$ in air. The phosphors had the bright red photoluminescence (PL) spectra of an $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_4F$ for $Eu^{3+}$ activator. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the obtained red phosphors were exhibited for indexing peak positions and calculating unit-cell parameters. Dynamic excitation and emission spectra of $Eu^{3+}$ activated red oxyfluoride phosphors were clearly monitored. Red and blue shifts gradually occurred in the emission spectra of $Eu^{3+}$ activated $A_3AlO_4F$ oxyfluoride phosphors when $Sr^{2+}$ by $Ca^{2+}$ and $Ba^{2+}$ ions were substituted, respectively. The concentration quenching as a function of $Eu^{3+}$ contents in $A_{3-2x/3}AlO_4F:Eu^{3+}$ (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) was measured. The interesting behaviors of defect-induced $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_{4-{\alpha}}F_{1-{\delta}}$ phosphors with $Eu^{3+}$ activator are discussed based on PL spectra and CIE coordinates. Substituting $In^{3+}$ into the $Al^{3+}$ position in the $A_{3-2x/3}AlO_4F:Eu^{3+}$ oxyfluorides resulted in the relative intensity of the red emitted phosphors noticeably increasing by seven times.

  • We have investigated effects of the lattice mismatch between the LPE films and the substrates. We have grown $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}$(x=0.1 to 0.15) single crystalline films on single crystalline substrates having different lattice parameter ratio c/a e.g., $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Zn_{y}O_{4},\;La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4},\; LaSrAlO_{4}\;and\;La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Al_{y}O_{4}$ etc., using the IR-LPE technique. The superconducting properties of the grown films were found to vary significantly depending on the lattice mismatch with different substrates.

  • $(Ba_{1-x}Sr_{0.4}Ca_x)TiO_{3}$ (x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20) powders were prepared by the sol-gel method and BSCT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing method. Their structural and dielectric properties were investigated with variation of composition ratio and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ doping contents. As results of the X-ray diffraction and microstructure analysis, the grain size of BSCT thick films was decreased with increasing $Al_{2}O_{3}$ amount. The thickness of BSCT thick films by 4-coating/drying is about $110{\sim}120{\mu}m$. The tunability increased with decreasing Ca content, and the BSCT(50/40/10) specimen doped with 1.0wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ showed the highest value of 12.94% at 5kV /cm.

Magnetic Properties and Hyperfine Interaction of BaSrCo2(Fe1-xAlx)12O22 Hexaferrite

  • Polycrystalline $BaSrCo_2(Fe_{1-x}Al_x)_{12}O_{22}$ (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10) samples were synthesized by polymerizable complex method. Based on the Rietveld refinement, crystal structures of the samples were found to be single-phased and determined to be rhombohedral with space group of R-3m. The hysteresis curves of the samples were measured under 15 kOe at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 and 295 K. It shows that they were not saturated with increasing Al ion contents due to the reduction of magnetic anisotropy. $M_{15kOe}$ was decreased with increasing Al ions contents. We expect that non-magnetic Al ions preferentially occupy the up-spin site of $18h_{VI}$, $3b_{VI}$, and $3a_{VI}$. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the samples were obtained at 295 K, and analyzed with sixsextets for Fe sites corresponding to the Y-type hexaferrite crystallography sites. The <$E_Q$> shows abrupt changes, and the <$H_{hf}$> shows abrupt decreases around x = 0.05 due to the coexistence of magnetic secondary phases.

  • $(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ca_x)TiO_3 + yAl_2O_3$ wt% (x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20, y=0~3.0) ceramics were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method, and their structural and dielectric properties were investigated with variation of composition ratio and $Al_2O_3$ doping content. As results of the X-ray diffraction and microstructure analysis, all BSCT specimens showed dense and homogeneous structure without presence of the second phase. The sintered density was decreased with an increase of $Al_2O_3$ doping content. The Curie temperature and relative dielectric constant at room temperature were decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3$doping content. The dielectric loss is minimum at BSCT doped with 1.5wt% $Al_2O_3$content. The tunability was decreased with increasing an Ca content and the BSCT(50/40/10) specimen doped with 2.0wt% $Al_2O_3$content showed the maximum value of 4.2%.

  • For the immobilization of high-radioactive nuclides such as Cs and Sr by high-temperature thermal decomposition, this study was carried out to investigate the phase transformation with calcined temperature by using TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) and XRD (X-ray diffraction) in the Cs-adsorbed CHA (chabazite zeolite of K type)-Cs and CHA-PCFC (potassium cobalt ferrocyanide)-Cs zeolite system, and Sr-adsorbed 4A-Sr and BaA-Sr zeolite system, respectively. In the case of CHA-Cs zeolite system, the structure of CHA-Cs remained at up to $900^{\circ}C$ and recrystallized to pollucite ($CsAlSi_2O_6$) at $1,100^{\circ}C$ after undergoing amorphous phase at $1,000^{\circ}C$. However, the CHA-CFC-Cs zeolite system retained the CHA-PCFC-Cs structure up to $700^{\circ}C$, but its structure collapsed in $900{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$, and then transformed to amorphous phase, and recrystallized to pollucite at $1,100^{\circ}C$. In the case of 4A-Sr zeolite system, on the other hand, the structure of 4A-Sr maintained up to $700^{\circ}C$ and its phase transformed to amorphous at $800^{\circ}C$, and recrystallized to Sr-feldspar ($SrAl_2Si_2O_8$, hexagonal) at $900^{\circ}C$ and to $SrAl_2Si_2O_8$ (triclinic) at $1,100^{\circ}C$. However, the BaA-Sr zeolite system structure began to break down at below $500^{\circ}C$, and then transformed to amorphous phase in $500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ and recrystallized to Ba/Sr-feldspar (coexistence of $Ba_{0.9}Sr_{0.1}Al_2Si_2O_8$ and $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Al_2Si_2O_8$) at $1,100^{\circ}C$. All of the above zeolite systems recrystallized to mineral phase through the dehydration/(decomposition) ${\rightarrow}$ amorphous ${\rightarrow}$ recrystallization with increasing temperature. Although further study of the volatility and leachability of Cs and Sr in the high-temperature thermal decomposition process is required, Cs and Sr adsorbed in each zeolite system are mineralized as pollucite, Sr-feldspar and Ba/Sr-feldspar. Therefore, Cs and Sr seen to be able to completely immobilize in the calcining wasteform/(solidified wasteform).

  • $(Ba_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4}Ca_x)TiO_3+yAl_2O_3$ wt% (x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20, y=0.5 $\sim$ 3.0) specimens were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method and then the structural properties as a function of the composition ratio and $Al_2O_3$ contents were studied. All BSCT specimens showed dense and homogeneous structure without the presence of the seconds phase. The sintered density was decreased with increase ad $Al_2O_3$ content. The Curie temperature and dielectric constant at room temperature decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3$ content. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the doped-0.5 wt% $Al_2O_3$ BSCT(50/40/10) specimen were about 3131 and 0.932% at 1KHz, respectively.

The tunability was decreased with increasing an Ca content and is about 4.2% for BSCT(50/40/10) doped with 2.0wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ content.
