실리카 광도파로용 SiON 후막 특성에서 RF Power와 $SiH_4$/($N_2$O+$N_2$) Ratio가 미치는 영향 (The Effect of RF Power and $SiH_4$/($N_2$O+$N_2$) Ratio in Properties of SiON Thick Film for Silica Optical Waveguide)

  • 플라즈마 화학기상증착(PECVD)법을 이용하여 실리카 광도파막의 코어로 이용되는 규소질산화막(SiON)을 Si 웨이퍼 위에 SiH$_4$,$N_2$O, $N_2$가스를 혼합하여 저온(32$0^{\circ}C$)에서 증착하였다. Prism coupler 측정을 통해 SiON 굴절률 1.4663~1.5496을 얻었으며, SiH$_4$/($N_2$O+$N_2$) 유량비와 rf power가 각각 0.33과 150W에서 8.67$mu extrm{m}$/h의 증착률을 나타내었다. 또한 SiH$_4$/($N_2$O+$N_2$) 유량비가 감소함에 따라 SiON막의 roughness는 41~6$\AA$까지 감소하였다.

$Si_3N_4$계 세라믹 절삭공구의 절삭특성 평가 (Cutting Characteristic of $Si_3N_4$ based Ceramic Inserts)

  • This study is performed to develop the Si$_3$N$_4$ based ceramic inserts. Si$_3$N$_4$with addition of SiC and A1$_2$O$_3$ is investigated to determine the possibility to be a new tool. The tool life of Si$_3$N$_4$ insert with more than 20wt% SiC is shorter than commercial Si$_3$N$_4$ insert during machining both heat treated SCM440 and gray cast iron. Even though SiC has higher hardness than Si$_3$N$_4$, its chemical affinity to the iron on high temperature may causes deteriorat ion of tool life. To the contrary, Si$_3$N$_4$insert with A1$_2$O$_3$ shows increase of tool life up to 300% compared to the commercial Si$_3$N$_4$insert. It may attribute to the high temperature stability of A1$_2$O$_3$. Further study will be focused on the optimization of ceramic inserts with the composition of Si$_3$N$_4$and A1$_2$O$_3$.

  • 플라즈마 화학기상증착(PECVD)법을 이용하여 Si(100) 웨이퍼에 silicon oxide(SiO$_2$)와 silicon oxynitride(SiON) 후막을 SiH$_4$, $N_2$O, $N_2$가스를 혼합하여 증착하였다. RF power와 rf bias power의 변화에 따른 SiO$_2$ 막과 SiON 막의 특성변화에 대하여 고찰하였다. RF power와 rf bias power가 증가함에 따라 굴절률은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며, 막의 굴절률은 1552 nm에서 1.4493-1.4952까지 변화하였다. 이와 같이 rf power가 증가함에 따라 굴절률이 감소하는 이유는 oxygen의 량이 증가하고 nitrogen의 량이 감소하여 즉, O/N 비가 증가하여 굴절률이 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다.

솔-젤법에 의한 $SiO_2-ZrO_2$계 무반사 박막의 제조 (Fabrication of Sol-Gel derived Antireflective Thin Films of $SiO_2-ZrO_2$ System)

  • In order to reduce reflectance of soda-lime glass having average reflectance of 7.35% and refractive index of 1.53, single (SiO2), double (SiO2/20SiO2-80ZrO2), and triple (SiO2/ZrO2/75SiO2-25ZrO2) layers were designed and fabricated on the glass substrate by Sol-Gel method. Stble sols of SiO2-ZrO2 binary system for antireflective (AR) coatings were synthesized with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and zirconium n-butoxide as precursors and ethylacetoacetate (EAcAc) as a chelating agent in an atmosphere environment. Films were deposited on soda-lime glass at the withdrawal rates of 3~11 cm/min using the prepared polymeric sols by dip-coating and they were heat-treated at 45$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min to obtain homogeneous, amorphous and crack-free films. In case of SiO2-ZrO2 binary system, refractive index of film increased with an increase of ZrO2 mol%. Designed optical constant of films could be obtained through varying the withdrawal rate. In the visible region (380~780nm), reflectance was measured with UV/VIS/NIR Spectrophotometer. Average reflectances of the prepared single-layer [SiO2 (n=1.46, t=103nm)], double-layer [SiO2 (n=1.46, t=1-4nm)/20SiO2-80ZrO2 (n=1.81, t=82nm)], and triple-layer [SiO2 (n=1.46, t=104nm)/ZrO2 (n=1.90, t=80nm)/75SiO2-25ZrO2 (n=1.61, t=94 nm)] were 4.74%, 0.75% and 0.38%, respectively.

  • The powder mixture of Si3N4-AlN-Y2O3, Si3N4-AlN-CeO2 and Si3N4-AlN-Y2O3-CeO2 system was hot-pressed at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h in N2 to prepare $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics. The mechanical property and oxidation behaviour of the prepared $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics were investigated. At 120$0^{\circ}C$, oxidation resistance was best for the Y2O3 added $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics and oxidation rate increased when the amount of CeO2 increased. But when the mixture of Y2O3 and CeO2 added $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics showed a good oxidation resistance. Fracture toughness of (Y2O3+CeO2) added $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics was higher than Y2O3 added $\alpha$-Sialon ceramics.

  • Silicon nitride($Si_3N_4)$ is one of the most widely used structural ceramic materials. However silicon nitride is difficult to sinter because of its strong covalent bonding characteristics. In this study, $Si_3N_4$ ceramics were fabricated by spark plasma sintering process with $Y_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ addition to improve the sinterability and the mechanical properties and their phase transformation behavior, microstructure and mechanical properties were evaluated. Fully densified $Si_3N_4$ ceramics could be obtained by spark plasma sintering process at a lower temperature than conventional sintering method. The formation of network microstructure was affected by the addition of $Al_2O_3$ because it could accelerate a to ${\alpha}$ to ${\beta}$ phase transformation of $Si_3N_4$. As a result, the mechanical properties depended on amounts of $Al_2O_3$ addition. The hardness value increased with increasing ${\alpha}$-phase fraction, but fracture toughness value increase with increasing ${\beta}$-phase fraction.

Tribology of SiO2 colloid coated Si3N4/SiC composites with/without TiO2 in accordance with heat treatment temperature considering economics

  • Ceramics have high hardness, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance, but are easily fractured by micro crack. Many studies on self-healing have been conducted to eliminate the risk of micro crack on the surface. SiO2 is self-healing material, in which Si and O2 are combined. TiO2-added Si3N4/SiC composites were sintered. The SiO2 colloid was coated on the surface, and heat treated. The bending strength and abrasion characteristics were evaluated. The specimen with SiO2 colloid coating had higher strength than that of the uncoated specimen, and the strength of TiO2-added specimen also increased. The friction coefficient and wear loss of SiO2 colloid coated specimens were smaller than those of the uncoated specimens. The friction coefficient and wear loss of TiO2-added specimens were smaller than those without additives. The friction coefficient and wear loss decreased with increasing bending strength. Friction coefficient and wear loss according to the heat treatment temperature showed the reverse tendency to the bending strength. Therefore, TiO2-added ceramic will ensure economic efficiency.

Na-Ca-Si-O-N계 Oxynitride Glass의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Properties of Na-Ca-Si-O-N System Oxynitride Glasses)

  • Oxynitride glasses in Na-Ca-Si-O-N system were prepared by melting at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in N2 gas. The effects of Si/Na mole ratio and the various Si3N4 contents were investigated. Stable oxynitride glasses can be obtained up to 9wt.% Si3N4 content in case the Si/Na mole ratio was 2.12 and 1.62, but $\beta$-Si3N4 was precipitated at 9wt.% Si3N4 content in case the Si/Na mole rtio was 1.12. Density (p), chemical durability, hardness (Hv), and fracture toughness (KIC) increased with increasing Si3N4 content. In cae the Si/Na mole ratio was 1.12, the increment of properties was remarkable but hardness and fracture toughness did not increase no longer owing to precipitation of $\beta$-Si3N4.

  • Silicon nitride ($Si_3N_4$) is regarded as one of the most promising materials for high temperature structural applications due to its excellent mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures. However, one high-temperature $Si_3N_4$ material intended for use in radomes has a relatively high dielectric constant of 7.9 - 8.2 at 8 - 10 GHz. In order to reduce the dielectric constant of the $Si_3N_4$, an in-situ reaction process was used to fabricate $Si_3N_4-SiO_2$-BN composites. In the present study, an in-situ reaction between $B_2O_3$ and $Si_3N_4$, with or without addition of BN in the starting powder mixture, was used to form the composite. The in-situ reaction process resulted in the uniform distribution of the constituents making up the composite ceramic, and resulted in good flexural strength and dielectric constant. The composite was produced by pressure-less sintering and hot-pressing at $1650^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere. Microstructure, flexural strength, and dielectric properties of the composites were evaluated with respect to their compositions and sintering processes. The highest flexural strength (193 MPa) and lowest dielectric constant (5.4) was obtained for the hot-pressed composites. The strength of these $Si_3N_4-SiO_2$-BN composites decreased with increasing BN content.

Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3계의 입계상 결정화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Crystallization of Grain-Boundary Phases in Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3 System)

  • After sintering Si3N4 containing 20wt% of variable composition ratio of Y2O3 and Al2O3 at 1$600^{\circ}C$, the specimens were annealed at 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 15 hours in order to crystallize the remanining oxynitride glass phases. The main grain-boundary crystalline phases in the Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3 system were melilite and YAG. By annealing 15hrs. at 125$0^{\circ}C$, almost all of the glasses were crystallized. During the growth of melilite, lattice volyume of $\beta$-Si3N4 was increased as Al3+ and O2- ions in the oxynitride glass diffuse into $\beta$-Si3N4 lattice, but during the growth of YAG, lattice volume of $\beta$-Si3N4 was decreased by reverse diffusion of Al3+ and O2- ions. In case of crystallization of glass phase to melilite, thermal expansion of sample was decreased, but in case of crystallization to YAG, inverse phenomen on was observed.
