  • In this paper the experiments of insulation characteristics by temperature change of SF6 gas and insulation characteristics about liquid SF6 in GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) were described. From this result, at low temperature, the breakdown voltage was increased with a drop of temperature and an increase of the inner pressure in GIS. The ability of insulation in liquid SF6 was higher than that of the highly pressurized SF6 gas.

  • $SF_6$ is widely used as gas insulation medium because of having excellent dielectric and arc-quenching properties. However the use of it is getting to be suppressed from the viewpoint of mitigating global warming. For the development of environmentally-benign electric power equipment and system, novel gases or mixture gases are strongly required as the substitute of $SF_6$ gas. In this study the authors constructed an experimental system to investigate insulation properties of the mixed gases composed of negative $gas(SF_6)$ and electron deceleration gases$(N_2\;and\;CO_2)$. Breakdown and prebreakdown characteristics of $SF_6/N_2/CO_2$ mixture gases were investigated using the above mentioned system for different rates and gas pressures.

  • The gas-insulated switchgear(GIS) has made high-reliability, high-safety, compact substations possible by using $SF_6$ gas. They are likely to be further developed toward higher voltages and targer capacities, along with greater compactness and lower cost. Although $SF_6$ gas has excellent insulation performance, breakdown voltages are reduced by the conducting particles. Thus, extensive studies have been made on the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6$ gas in particle contaminated conditions. Experiments were carried out for fired particle and free particle in a coaxial electrode system with DC and AC voltages. This paper represents the experimental results of the processes involved in electrical breakdown in compressed $SF_6$ gas, where breakdown is initiated by conducting particles.

  • This paper describes the effect of particles on insulation characteristics of $SF_6-N_2$ mixtures such as breakdown voltages, lift-off voltages and maximum discharge. As a result, the breakdown voltage was increased with the increment of $SF_6$ and the mixture containing 20[%] of $SF_6$ has a breakdown voltage ratio factor better than the other mixtures. The lift-off voltage was nearly constant with all mixtures. Discharge was decreased with the increment of $SF_6$.

  • 하이드레이트는 저온.고압에서 저분자량의 게스트(guest)가 호스트(host)인 물분자 속에 포획되어 만들어지는데 일련의 과정은 물리적 반응을 통해 생성된다.본 연구에서는$CO_2$보다 지구온난화지수(Global Warming Potential)가 23,900배 높은 $SF_6$의 회수 및 정제기술로써 하이드레이트화를 이용하는 신기술 개발의 일환으로 분광학적 접근을 통해 $SF_6$ 혼합 하이드레이트의 정성 및 정량분석을 수행하였다. Raman Shift 분석 결과 $SF_6$$770cm^{-1}$에서 $v_1$ 진동주파수를 확인함으로써 하이드레이트 내 $SF_6$가 안정적으로 포집됨을 확인하였고 혼합가스 내 $SF_6$ 농도별로 만들어진 샘플의 Raman Shift를 통해서 $SF_6$의 하이드레이트 전환율을 가늠할 수 있었다.

  • In these days $SF_6$ mixtures and alternative gas have been studied because of global warming and liquefying at low temperature and high pressure. At present work the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixture in non-uniform field was performed. The experiments were carried out under positive and negative standard lightning impulse (SLT) voltages. The point-plane electrode was used with 3 mm gap distance in the test chamber. The $SF_6/CF_4$ mixture which contain 20% of $SF_6$ was compared with pure $SF_6$ and $CF_4$ gas. Experimental gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. The breakdown voltage under negative SLI is higher than the breakdown voltage under positive voltage. And the breakdown voltage of $SF_6$ 20%, $CF_4$ 80% mixture is similar to that of pure $SF_6$.

  • Although many studies have been carried out about binary gas mixtures with $SF_6$, few studies were presented about breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures. At present study the breakdown characteristics of SFJCF4 mixtures in uniform field was performed. The experiments were carried out under AC and standard lightning impulse (SLI) voltages. The sphere-sphere electrode whose gap distance was 1 mm was used in a test chamber. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures contained from 0 to 100% $SF_6$ and the experimental gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. The results show that addition of $SF_6$ to $CF_4$ increase AC and SLI breakdown voltages. Under AC voltages the breakdown voltages of each mixture were linearly increased according to the quantity of $SF_6$. However under SLI voltages the breakdown voltages of each mixture were similar.

  • In this paper the breakdown and dielectric characteristics of purified transformer oil dissolved with $SF_6$ Gas are investigated with a few decade MHz frequency voltage. The results are as follows. 1) High frequency current is a approximately proportional to the square root of high frequency voltage in purified transformer oil. 2) As frequency increase breakdown voltage decrease inversely proportional to the square root of frequency and the high frequency breakdown voltage is lower about 35 percentage than that of AC 3) The breakdown voltage of high frequency has a little increase with the pressure increase of dissolved $SF_6$, Air and Ar Gas. 4) As voltage freguency increases the value of the dielectric loss tangent has increased almost exponentially and the dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$) has tended to decrease with a slope[0.6% MHz]. 5) When dissolved with $SF_6$ Gas, oil electrical characteristics has more increased about 25% than in Air or Ar gas with high voltage frequency.

  • The detection methods are required to monitor and diagnose the abnormality on the insulation condition inside a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). Due to a good sensitivity to the products decomposed by partial discharges (PDs) in $SF_6$ gas, the development of a SWNT gas sensor is actively in progress. However, a few numerical studies on the diffusion mechanism of the $SF_6$ decomposition products by PD have been reported. In this study, we modeled $SF_6$ decomposition process in a chamber by calculating temperature, pressure and concentration of the decomposition products by using a commercial CFD program in conjunction with experimental data. It was assumed that the mass production rate and the generation temperature of the decomposition products were $5.04{\times}10^{-10}$ [g/s] and over 773 K respectively. To calculate the concentration equation, the Schmidt number was specified to get the diffusion coefficient functioned by viscosity and density of $SF_6$ gas instead rather than setting it directly. The results showed that the drive potential is governed mainly by the gradient of the decomposition concentration. A lower concentration of the decomposition products was observed as the sensors were placed more away from the discharge region. Also, the concentration increased by increasing the discharge time. By installing multiple sensors the location of PD is expected to be identified by monitoring the response time of the sensors, and the information should be very useful for the diagnosis and maintenance of GIS.

SLI, AC Breakdown Voltage Characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ Mixtures Gas in Nonuniform Field (불평등전계에서 $SF_6/CF_4$ 혼합 가스의 SLI, AC 절연내력 특성)

At present study the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures in non-uniform field was performed. The experiments were carried out under AC voltage and standard lightning impulse(SLI) voltage. Breakdown characteristics were investigated for $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures when AC voltages and standard lighting impulse voltage was applied in a needle-plane. The needle-plane electrode whose gap distance was 3 mm were used in a test chamber. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures contained from 0 to 100% $SF_6$ and the experimental gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.5 MPa. The breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures in non-uniform field may be influenced by defects like needle-shaped protrusions. In case of slowly rising SLI voltage and AC voltage it is enhanced by corona-stabilization. This phenomena caused by the ion drift during streamer development and the resulting space-charge is investigated. In non-uniform field under negative SLI voltage the breakdown voltage was increase linearly but under positive SLI voltage the breakdown voltage increase non-linearly. The breakdown voltage in needle-plane electrode displayed N shape characteristics for increasing the content of $SF_6$ at AC voltage. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixture has good dielectric strength and arc-extinguishing properties than pure SF6. This paper presents experimental results on breakdown characteristics for various mixtures of $SF_6/CF_4$ at practical pressures. We could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with maintaining dielectric strength by combing $SF_6\;and\;CF_4$ which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.
