The present work has been devoted to the catalytic reduction of $N_2O$ by $H_2$ with $Pt/SiO_2$ catalysts at very low temperatures, such as $110^{\circ}C$, and their nanoparticle sizes have been determined by using $H_2-N_2O$ titration, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) measurements. A sample of 1.72% $Pt/SiO_2$, which had been prepared by an ion exchange method, consisted of almost atomic levels of Pt nanoparticles with 1.16 nm that are very consistent with the HRTEM measurements, while a $Pt/SiO_2$ catalyst possessing the same Pt amount via an incipient wetness technique did 13.5 nm particles as determined by the XRD measurements. These two catalysts showed a noticeable difference in the on-stream $deN_2O$ activity maintenance profiles at $110^{\circ}C$. This discrepancy was associated with the nanoparticle sizes, i.e., the $Pt/SiO_2$ catalyst with the smaller particle size was much more active for the $N_2O$ reduction. When repeated measurements of the $N_2O$ reduction with the 1.16 nm Pt catalyst at $110^{\circ}C$ were allowed, the catalyst deactivation occurred, depending somewhat on regeneration excursions.

A dry impregnation method was used for preparing pellet type Pt/$SnO_2$ gas sensor. The crystal structure, direction of the crystal, crystal size and microstructure between the catalyst and the support ($SnO_2$) were characterized with electron diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy. The characterization indicates that when Pt/$SnO_2$ sample is calcined at $400^{\circ}C$, the Cl content associated with the Pt phase diminishes and the part of Pt is moved into $SnO_2$ support. This results in the enhancement of gas sensitivity. After the reactor with a Pt/$SnO_2$ sample was run with a flow rate of 30 sccm (a mixture of 0.5% $H_2$ in $_N2$) for a while, the resistance of $SnO_2$ was saturated, but the $SnO_2$ kept absorbing $H_2$ gas. This indicates that the surface state was saturated. For the 14 ppm $H_2$ gas, the sensitivity of Pt/$SnO_2$ devices was about 81% at an operating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$.

Ferroelectric $Sr_xBi_yTa_2O_{9+\alpha}$/(0.7$\leqSr\leq1.0,\; 2.0\leqBi\leq2.6)$ solutions were prepared by MOD (Metalorganic Deposition) process. These solutions were made into thin films with thickness ranging from 1500~2000${\AA}$ by spin coating. The phase transformation of the SBT thin films by variation of annealing temperature and annealing time were observed using high temperature XRD and SEM. The crystallization and grain growth of SBT thin film were accomplished at $800^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes after deposition of Pt top electrode by sputtering to prevent electrical breakdown. Ferroelectric properties of the SBT thin films were measured in the range of $\pm$3V\; and\; \pm5V$. The specimen with composition ratio of Sr/Bi/Ta (0.8/2.4/2.0) has the excellent ferroelectric properties ; $2P_r = 10.5,\; 13.2\muC/cm^2 \;at\; \pm3V\; and\; \pm5V$ respectively. Observing the post annealed Pt/SBT/Pt interface by SEM, it was found that Pt electrode sputtered on to the SBT thin film penetrated into the hollow on the SBT thin film, thus decreasing the effective insulation thickness. The effective insulation thickness recovered by post annealing, and this was confirmed by leakage current density measurement.
The electrodes are usually made of a porous mixture of carbon-supported platinum and ionomers. $SnO_2$ particles provide as supports that have been used for DMFCs, and it have high catalytic activities toward methanol oxidation. The main advantage of $SnO_2$ supported electrodes is that it has strong chemical interactions with metallic components. The high activity to a synergistic bifunctional mechanism in which Pt provides the adsorption sites for CO, while oxygen adsorbs dissociative on $SnO_2$. The reaction between the adsorbed species occurs at the Pt/$SnO_2$ boundary. The morphological observations were characterized by FESEM and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). $SnO_2$ particles crystallinity was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface bonded state of the $SnO_2$ particles and electrode materials were observed by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electric properties of the Pt/$SnO_2$ catalyst for methanol oxidation have been investigated by the cyclic voltametry (CV) in 0.1M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.1M MeOH aqueous solution. The peak current density of methanol oxidation was increased as the $SnO_2$ content in the anode catalysts increased. Pt/$SnO_2$ catalysts improve the removal of CO ads species formed on the platinum surface during methanol electro-oxidation.
In order to understand the electrostrictive behavior of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) solid solutions the dielectric constants the electric-field-induced strains and the pyroelectric coefficients of (1-x)PMN-xPT (x=0.1-0.4) were investigated in the temperature range -50~20$0^{\circ}C$. For x=0.1~0.35 where the phase transi-tion is diffusive the strain has a maxima at the temperature of maximum pyroelectric coefficient (depolrizing temperature) rather than the temperature of maximum dielectric constant. For x=0.4 where the phase transition is relatively sharp the strain decreases monotonically as the temperature increases. Relationships among the above experimental results are discussed.

The r.f. power effect for Pt doping is investigated on structural and electrochemical properties of amorphous vanadium oxide(V$_2$O$_{5}$) film, grown by direct current (d.c.) magnetron sputtering. Room temperature charge-discharge measurements based on a half-cell with a constant current clearly indicated that the Pt doping could improve the cyclibility of V$_2$O$_{5}$ cathode film. Using glancing angle x-ray diffraction(GXRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis, we found that the Pt doping with 10W r.f. power induces more random amorphous structure than undoped V$_2$O$_{5}$ film. As the r.f. power of Pt target increases. large amount of Pt atoms incorporates into the amorphous V$_2$O$_{5}$ film and makes $\alpha$-PtO$_2$microcrystalline phase in the amorphous V$_2$O$_{5}$ matrix. These results suggest that the semiconducting $\alpha$-PtO$_2$ microcrystalline phase in amorphous matrix lead to a drastically faded cyclibility of 50W Pt doped V$_2$O$_{5}$ cathode film. Possible explanations are given to describe the Pt doping effect on cyclibillity of the amorphous V$_2$O$_{5}$ cathode film battery. film battery.
The degradation of methyl blue (MB) catalyzed by platinum (Pt)-graphene/$TiO_2$ in dark ambiance was studied. Pt-graphene/$TiO_2$ composites were prepared by simple hydrothermal method. Characterizations of composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific surface area (BET) analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. UV-spectroscopic analysis of the dyes was performed by measuring the change in absorbance. The degradation of the organic dyes was calculated based on the decrease in concentration of the dyes with respect to regular time intervals. Rate coefficients for the catalytic process were successfully established and reusability tests were performed to test the stability of the used catalysts.
The microstructure and electrical propetries were investigated for polycrystalline $Ba^{1-x}Sr_xTiO_3$(BST) thin films deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$(PTSS) and Pt/MgO(PM) substrates by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). BST films on PTSS have coulmnar and porous structures, while on PM have an equiaxied and dense structure. The dielectric constant and a dissipation factor of BST films on PTSS and 20 fC/$\mu \textrm{cm}^3$ on PTSS and 12fC/$\mu \textrm{cm}^2$ on PM was obtained at an applied electric field of 0.06 MV/cm. Leakage current density of BST films on PM was smaller than that on PTSS. The leakage current density level was about $8\times10^{-8}A/\textrm{cm}^2$ at 0.04MV/cm.
In the present study, we fabricated stoichiometric $(Ba_{1-x}Sr_x)TiO_3$ thin films at various substrate temperature and contents using of magnetron sputtering method on optimized Pt-based electrodes (Pt/TiN/$SiO_2$/Si). The substate temperature deposited at 200[ $^{\circ}C$], 400[$^{\circ}C$] and 600[$^{\circ}C$] and crystalline BST thin films show above 400[$^{\circ}C$]. Also, the composition of $(Ba_{1-x}Sr_x)TiO_3$ thin films deposited on Si wafer substrate at 400[$^{\circ}C$] were closed to stoichiometry($1.015{\sim}1.093$ in A/B ratio), but compositional deviation from a stoichiometry is larger as $SrCO_3$ is added. The drastic decrease of dielectric constant and increase of dielectric loss in $(Ba_{1-x}Sr_x)TiO_3$thin films is observed above 100[kHz]. V-I characteristics of $(Ba_{1-x}Sr_x)TiO_3$ thin films show the decrease of leakage current with the increase of $SrCO_3$ contents.
