Processing and Properties of RAINBOW Piezoelectric Actuator (RAINBOW 압전 액츄에이터의 제조와 물성)

  • RAINBOW(Reduced And Internally Biased Oxide Wafers) are a new class of high-displacement, piezoelectric actuator produced by selectively removing oxygen from one surface of ceramic using a high-temperature chemical reduction process. In this paper, RAINBOW composition of 0.4Pb$(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.6Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ were prepared. Its dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated in the vicinity of MPB. The strain - electric field characteristics of RAINBOW actuator were significantly improved comparison with the conventional bulk actuator.

  • In this study, in order to develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric transformer, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PSN-PZT[0.91Pb(Sb$\sub$1/2/Nb$\sub$1/2/)$\sub$0.03/(Zr$\sub$0.495/Ti$\sub$0.505/)$\sub$0.97/O$_3$-0.04Pb(Ni$\sub$1/2/W$\sub$1/2/)O$_3$+0.05BiFeO$_3$+0.3wt%MnO$_2$+0.6wt%CuO〕 ceramics were investigated according to Zr/Ti ratio. As Zr/Ti ratio is increased, electromechanical coupling factor(k$\sub$p/) and dielectric constant increased and then decreased after the ratio of Zr/Ti=50/50. Also, mechanical qualify factor(Q$\sub$m/) decreased and then increased after the ratio of Zr/Ti=50/50.

  • In this study, the structural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $Pb[(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_x-(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.09-x}-(Zn_{0.505}Ti_{0.495)_0.91]O_3$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05) system ceramics were investigated to develop the composition ceramics for piezoelectric transformer. All the specimens were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ and its physical properties were measured, and the results are as follows : With increasing PNN substitution for PMN-PZT system, dielectric constant was increased and electro-mechanical coupling factor($k_p$) was increased to 0.62 at 5 mol% while mechanical quality factor(Qm) was decreased.

  • Recently, piezoelectric transformer is applied to wide fields. Multi layer piezoelectric transformer has the advantage of high step up ratio, electromechanical coupling coefficient(Kp) and mechanical quality factor(Qm), but is indicated of peeling-phenomenon of electrode, rising sintering temperature made price of costly electrode. So in this study, it discuss on method for fabrication of rosen type piezoelectric transformers. For the fabrication as rosen type piezoelectric transformers, synthesized the powder using 0.01Pb$(ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ - 0.08Pb$(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ - 0.91Pb$(Zr_{0506}Ti_{0496})O_3$ (abbreviated as PNN-PMN-PZT) ceramics. The density, microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties as a function of sintering temperature were investigated. The results indicated that the optimized properties of ceramics were obtained at sintering temperature of 1200$^{\circ}C$, showed the value of $d_{33}$=273pC/N, $K_p$=0.60 $Q_m$=1585, ${\varepsilon}_r$=1454, density=7.917$g/cm^3$ and $tan{\delta}$=0.0064.

Investigation on Ferroelectric and Magnetic Properties of Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 Fe-Site Engineered with Antisymmetric Exchange Interaction (반대칭 교환 상호작용을 갖도록 Fe-Site가 제어된 PbFe1/2Nb1/2O3의 강유전/자기적 특성 연구)

  • We investigated the origin of magnetic behaviors induced by an asymmetric spin exchange interaction in Fe-site engineered lead iron niobate [Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3, PFN], which exhibits a room-temperature multiferroicity. The magnitude of spin exchange interaction was regulated by the introduced transition metals with a distinct Bohr magneton, i.e., Cr, Co, and Ni. All compositions were found to have a single-phase perovskite structure keeping their ferroelectric order except for Cr introduction. We discovered that the incorporation of each transition metal imposes a distinct magnetic behavior on the lead iron niobate system; antiferro-, hard ferro-, and soft ferromagnetism for Cr, Co, and Ni, respectively. This indicates that orbital occupancy and interatomic distance play key roles in the determination of magnetic behavior rather than the magnitude of the individual Bohr magneton. Further investigations are planned, such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy, to clarify the origin of magnetic properties in this system.

Manufacturing Method for Sensor-Structure Integrated Composite Structure (센서-구조 일체형 복합재료 구조물 제작 방법)

  • A composite structure was fabricated with embedded impact detection capabilities for applications in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). By embedding sensor functionality in the composite, the structure can successfully perform impact localization in real time. Smart resin, composed of $Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr,\;Ti)O_2$ (PNN-PZT) powder and epoxy resin with 1:30 wt%, was used instead of conventional epoxy resin in order to activate the sensor function in the composite structure. The embedded impact sensor in the composite was fabricated using Hand Lay-up and Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding(VARTM) methods to inject the smart resin into the glass-fiber fabric. The electrodes were fabricated using silver paste on both the upper and bottom sides of the specimen, then poling treatment was conducted to activate the sensor function using a high voltage amplifier at 4 kV/mm for 30 min at room temperature. The composite's piezoelectric sensitivity was measured to be 35.13 mV/N by comparing the impact force signals from an impact hammer with the corresponding output voltage from the sensor. Because impact sensor functionality was successfully embedded in the composite structure, various applications of this technique in the SHM industry are anticipated. In particular, impact localization on large-scale composite structures with complex geometries is feasible using this composite embedded impact sensor.

Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties of PMW-PNN-PZT Ceramics as a Function of BiFeO3 Substitution (BiFeO3 치환에 따른 PMW-PNN-PZT세라믹스의 강유전 및 압전 특성)

  • In this paper, in order to develop the composition ceramics with the outstanding piezoelectric properties, $Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.03}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.09}(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.88}O_3$ ceramics substituted with $BiFeO_3$ were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The addition of small amount of $Li_2CO_3$ and $CaCO_3$ as sintering aids decreased the sintering temperature of the ceramics. The effects of $BiFeO_3$ substitution on their piezoelectric and dielectric properties were investigated. when 0.015 mol $BiFeO_3$ was substituted, the optimal physical properties of $d_{33}=590pC/N$, $E_c=8.78kV/mm$ were obtained.

Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering PMW-PNN-PZT Substituted with CeMnO3 (CeMnO3가 치환된 저온소결 PMW-PNN-PZT 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전 특성)

  • In this study, $(1-x)Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.03}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.09}(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.88}O_3+xCeMnO_3$ (x= 0~0.02) ceramics were prepared by Columbite precursor method. The phase structure, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were systematically investigated. It was found that PMW-PNN-PZT possessed superior electrical properties due to its composition close to the MPB (morphotropic phase boundary). Coercive electric field of 10.05 [kV/cm] and density of 7.88 [$g/cm^3$] were obtained when the substitution amount of $CeMnO_3$ is x=0.02. In contrast, specimens with x=0.01 showed the mechanical quality factor($Q_m$) of 1,091 and the electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$) of 0.613.

Properties of Piezoelectric thick film with detailed structure following particle size (입자 크기에 따른 미세구조를 가지는 압전 후막 특성)

  • 스크린 프린팅에 의한 압전 후막은 MEMS 공정을 이용하여 마이크로 펌프, 마이크로 벨브, 마이크로 센서, 마이크로 로봇 등 여러 초소형 기계부품에 응용되고 있으며, Sol-Gel, PLD를 이용해 증착된 막 등에 비해 수십${\mu}m$의 비교적 두꺼운 막을 형성시킬 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 실리콘 기판을 사용하여 스크린 프린팅으로 형성된 압전 후막의 경우, 공정상 바인더를 연소시키는 과정을 거치게 되므로, 밀집된(Dense) 구조를 가지는 막을 만들기가 어렵다. 이로 인해 스크린 프린팅에 의한 후막은 전기적 특성 및 기계적 특성이 떨어지는 경향이 있다. 본 연구에서는 스크린 프린팅에 의한 압전 후막의 밀집된 구조 및 특성을 향상시키기 위해 0.01Pb$(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})$O3-0.41Pb$(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.35PbTiO_3-0.23PbZrO_3$의 powder와 Attrition 밀링 처리된 powder를 비율별로 혼합하여 입자의 크기를 변화시켜 막의 충진 밀도를 향상시켰으며, 열처리 효과를 극대화시키기 위해 RTA(Rapidly Thermal Annealing)를 통해 열처리 하였다. Attrition 밀링에 의한 파우더를 각각 비율별로 100%, 50%, 25%로 혼합하여 만든 압전 세라믹 페이스트는 P-type(100)Si Wafer sample 위에 $1{\mu}m$의 하부전극용($1100^{\circ}C$) Ag 전극을 screen print하여 소결했다. 그리고 다시 전극이 형성된 Si wafer 위에 스크린 프린팅하고, 건조 한 후 RTA로 300초 동안 열처리 한 결과 밀집된 구조를 가지는 압전 후막을 제작 수 있었다.

Piezoelectric property variation with respect to the frit addition for lower temperature sintering in PNW-PMN-PZT ceramic system (PNW-PMN-PZT 압전 세라믹의 저온소결을 위한 프리트 첨가 압전 특성평가)

  • 강유전성 세라믹스 재료로써는 PZT계열의 세라믹재료가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 이는 우수한 유전 및 압전특성을 가지고 있으나, PbO을 다량 함유하고 있어 $1000^{\circ}C$이상에서 PbO가 급격하게 휘발되는 성질 때문에 조성의 변동이 생겨 재현성이 어려우며 이를 방지하기 위하여 PbO를 과잉 첨가시키기 때문에 PbO휘발로 인한 강한 독성이 인체에 유해하고, 비환경 친화적인 물질로 최근에는 환경문제가 대두됨에 따라 대체 또는 보완 할 수 있는 방안에 검토되고 있다. 본 연구는 그 해결책의 한 방안으로 압전특성이 우수한 $(Pb_{0.94}Sr_{0.06})[(Ni_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.02}(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.07}(Zr_{0.51}Ti_{0.49})_{0.91}]O_3$계 조성을 설계하고 Glass frit(0~1.1 wt%)를 소량 첨가하여 액상 소결 특성을 부여하고 $1000^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온에서 소결하여 유전 및 압전 특성을 평가하였다. 실험방법은 일반적인 세라믹스 제조공정으로 24시간 ball milling하고 $850^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 하소 후 Glass frit를 소결조제로 소랑 첨가하여 $1000^{\circ}C$ 이하 온도에서 소결을 진행하여 각 소결온도에 따른 유전 및 압전 특성을 평가하였다. 최종 소결된 시편의 밀도와 수축율을 분석하여 최적의 소결온도를 확립하였으며 XRD분석을 통해 perovskite구조를 확인하고 미세구조확인을 위해 SEM으로 관찰하였다. 압전 특성을 평가하였다.
