The quasi-solid-state hybrid electrolytes were synthesized by chemical cross-linking reaction of methacrylate-functionalized $SiO_2$ ($MA-SiO_2$) and tetra (ethylene glycol) diacrylate in aqueous electrolyte. A quasi-solid-state electrolyte synthesized by 6 wt.% $MA-SiO_2$ exhibited a high ionic conductivity of $177mS\;cm^{-1}$ at room temperature. The electrochemical $H_2$ sensor assembled with quasi-solid-state electrolyte showed relatively fast response and high sensitivity for hydrogen gas at ambient temperature, and exhibited better durability and stability than the liquid electrolyte-based sensor. The simple construction of the sensor and its sensing characteristics make the quasi-solid-state hydrogen sensor promising for practical application.

We investigated a SiC-based hydrogen gas sensor with MIS (metal-insulator-semiconductor) structure for high temperature applications. The sensor was fabricated by $Pd/TiO_2/SiC$ structure, and a thin titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) layer was exploited for sensitivity improvement. In the experiment, dependences of I-V characteristics and capacitance response properties on hydrogen gas concentrations from 0 to 2,000 ppm were analyzed at room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. As the result, our sensor using $TiO_2$ dielectric layer showed possibilities with regard to use in hydrogen gas sensors for high-temperature applications.
Gas sensing materials for detecting inflammable gas such as alcohol, propane, acetic acid, carbon monoxide, hydrogen were developed by utiliting $MgO-Cr_2O_3-TiO_2$ system. Between 30$0^{\circ}C$ and 50$0^{\circ}C$, reversible chemisorption becomes dominant and the electrical canduction of P-type semiconductive with the gas chemisorption. The ceramic sensor exhibits a high sensitivity to particular reducing gas such as alcohol, whereas propane and butane have little effect on the resistivity. The time response of adsorption is estimated to be about 20 sec. On the other hand, the desorption process, which corresponds to oxidation due to oxygen adsorption, take more than 60 sec. Thus the ceramic sensor can be used as a alcohol sensor in an ambient aunosphere. As the oxygen concentration is increased from 0.1 to 10 precent($10^3-10^6ppm$), the resistance decreases rapidly but stabilizes at higher concentration.

Pd-functionalized ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowires are synthesized by thermal evaporation of Bi powder using VLS mechanism followed by Pd coating and annealing. In this study, sensing properties of Pd-functionalized ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowires sensor to selected concentrations of $NO_2$ gas were examined. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the nanowires with diameters in a range of 100 - 200 nm and lengths of up to a few tens of micrometers. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction confirmed that the products corresponded to the nanowires of ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ crystals and Pd nanoparticles. Pd-functionalized ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowires sensor showed an enhanced sensing performance to $NO_2$ gas compared to as-synthesized ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowires sensor. As synthesized and Pd-functionalized ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowire sensors showed responses of 178% - 338% and 196% - 535% at $300^{\circ}C$, respectively, to 0.05 - 2 ppm $NO_2$. In addition, the underlying mechanism of the enhancement of the sensing properties of ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanowires by Pd-functionalization is discussed.

Catalytic combustible gas sensors were fabricated by using ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ with large surface area and noble metal catalysts. The optimum conditions for ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ fabrication were investigated by DT/TGA and XRD analyses and it was found that fabricated ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ had superior value as surface area of $215.5m^{2}/g$. Gas sensors were manufactured and tested to inflammable gases by using Pt coil as a heater and temperature sensing part, fine ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ powder as a bead material and Pt, Pd noble metal powder as a catalyst. From the results, fabricated sensor showed good sensitivity to LPG and LNG of 20mV/l000ppm, 6.5mV/l000ppm respectively.

$TiO_2,\;ZrO_2$, and $SiO_2$ were added in the concentration of 1 - 3 wt.% to improve long-term stability for the $SnO2$ thick film gas sensor. Short-term sensor resistances up to 90 h were measured to investigate the stabilization time of initial resistance in air. Long-term resistance drifts in air and in gas to 5000 ppm methane for the sensors annealed at $750^{\circ}C$ for 1 h and continuously heated at an operating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ were also measured up to 90 days at an interval of 1 day. The long-term drifts in methane sensitivity for the three metal oxide-doped $SnO2$ sensors are closely related to methane sensitivity level, catalytic activity, and long-term drift in sensor resistance in air. Those stabilities are mainly discussed in terms of oxidation state and catalytic activity.
The sensitivity characteristics of $SnO_2$-based gas sensor prepared by sintering method have been studied at the presence of CO and Propane gas. Samples mixed with 1wt% $La_2O_3$ and 1wt% $PdCl_2$ showed highest sensitivity to CO and propane gas at 250$^{\circ}$C but the addition of $CeO_2$ did not enhance the sensitivity. For slectivity for gas a $SnO_2-La_2O_3$ (1wt%) sample without $PdCl_2$ showed better results. A sample sintered sintered at 115$0^{\circ}C$ has shown the optimum condition in sensitivity and electroding
A thick film catalytic gas sensors which can be operated at $142^{\circ}C$ in presence of ultra violet-light emitting diode has been developed to measure hydrogen concentration in 0-5 % range. The sensing material as a combustion catalyst consists of $TiO_{2}$ (5 wt%) and Pd/Pt (20 wt%) supported on $Al_{2}O_{3}$ powder and the reference material to compensate the heat capacity of it in a bridge circuit was an catalyst free $Al_{2}O_{3}$ powder. Platinum heater and sensor materials were formed on the alumina plate by screen printing method and heat treatment. The effect of UV radiation in the presence of photo catalyst $TiO_{2}$ on the sensor sensitivity, response and recovery time has been investigated. The reduction of operating temperature from $192^{\circ}C$ to $142^{\circ}C$ for hydrogen gas sensing property in presence of UV radiation is attributed to the hydroxy radical and superoxide which was formed at the surface of $TiO_{2}$ under UV radiation.
$SnO_2$ as raw material of sensor for $NO_2$ detection was prepared by precipitating $SnCl_4$ solution with aqueous ammonia followed by calcining in air. The characterization of $SnO_2$ was carried out using FT-IR and XRD, and $SnO_2$ thick film sensor was fabricated by screen-printing method. The particle size of $SnO_2$ calcined at higher temperature increased due to the growth of crystalline. $SnO_2$ sensor fabricated by using $SnO_2$ sample calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ followed by heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ exhibited excellent sensing characteristics and selectivity for $NO_2$ gas at the operating temperature of $250^{\circ}C$.

A carbon monoxide gas sensor utilizing Pt-SiC, Pt-SnO2-SiC diode structure was fabricated. Since the operating temperature for silicon devices in limited to 200oC, sensor which employ the silicon substrate can not at high temperature. In this study, CO gas sensor operating at high temperature which utilize SiC semiconductor as a substrate was developed. Since the SiC is the semiconductor with wide band gap. the sensor at above $700^{\circ}C$. Carbon monoxide-sensing behavior of Pt-SiC, Pt-SnO2-SiC diode is systematically compared and analyzed as a function of carbon monoxide concentration and temperature by I-V and ${\Delta}$I-t method under steady-state and transient conditions.
