Catalytic Effects and Characteristics of Ni-based Catalysts Supported on TiO2-SiO2 Xerogel

  • The catalytic activities of nickel-based catalysts were estimated for oxidizing acetaldehyde of VOCs exhausted from industrial facilities. The catalysts were prepared by sol-gel methods of SiO2 and SiO2-TiO2 as a xerogel followed by impregnating Al2O3 powder with the nickel nitrate precursor. The crystalline structure and catalytic properties for the catalysts were investigated by use of BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Xray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) techniques. These results show that nickel oxide is transformed to NiAl2O4 spinel structure at the calcination temperature of 400 °C in response to the steps with after- and co-impregnation of Al2O3 powder in sol-gel process. The NiAl2O4 could suppress the oxidation reaction of acetaldehyde by catalysts. The NiO is better dispersed on SiO2-TiO2/Al2O3 support than SiO2/Al2O3 and SiO2-TiO2-Al2O3 supports. From the testing results of catalytic activities for oxidation of acetaldehyde, Catalysts showed a big difference in conversion efficiencies with the way of the preparation of catalysts and the loading weight of nickel. The catalyst of 8 wt.% Ni/TiO2-SiO2/Al2O3 showed the best conversion efficiency on acetaldehyde oxidation with 100% conversion efficiency at 350 °C.

  • 본 연구에서는 $Ni/Al_2O_3$ 촉매를 사용한 에틸렌글리콜의 수증기 개질반응에서 제조 방법에 따른 영향을 알아보았다. 촉매들은 건식 함침법, 습식 함침법 그리고 공침법을 사용하여 제조하였다. 공침법을 사용하여 촉매 제조시 침전제를 KOH, $K_2CO_3$, $NH_4OH$를 각각 사용하여 침전제에 따른 영향 또한 알아보았다. 제조한 촉매들은 질소 물리흡착, 유도결합 플라즈마 질량분석법(ICP-AES), X선 회절법(XRD), 수소 승온 환원법(TPR), 수소 화학흡착, 승온 산화법(TPO), 주사전자현미경(SEM), 열분석법(TGA)을 사용하여 촉매의 물리화학적인 특성을 분석하였다. 773 K에서 환원한 촉매의 경우 KOH 혹은 $K_2CO_3$를 침전제로 사용하여 공침법으로 제조한 촉매가 가장 높은 활성을 보였다. 촉매 제조 방법은 Ni의 입자크기, Ni 산화물의 환원도, 반응에서의 활성과 안정성, 반응 중 탄소 침적의 형태 등에 영향을 끼치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. KOH를 침전제로 사용하여 공침법으로 제조한 촉매의 경우 환원온도를 773~1173 K까지 증가시켰을 때, Ni 입자크기의 증가에도 불구하고 Ni 산화물의 환원도가 증가하므로 반응활성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 수소생산을 위한 메탄의 부분산화용 촉매로 알루미나에 담지된 코발트와 니켈 촉매를 함침법으로 제조하였다. 이들 코발트와 니켈 촉매에 조촉매 성분 Mg, Ce, La와 Sr을 첨가하여 초촉매 효과를 조사하였다. 메탄의 부분산화반응을 위한 촉매의 활성은 상압, $CH_4/O_2$ = 2.0에서 450~$650^{\circ}C$의 온도영역으로 조사하였다. 촉매의 특성은 BET, XRD와 SEM/EDX를 이용하여 조사하였다. 0.2 wt%의 조촉매 성분의 첨가로 촉매성능의 상승효과를 얻을 수 있었다. $500^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서는 $Co/Al_2O_3$에 Mg을 첨가한 촉매가 가장 우수한 메탄 전환율과 수소 선택성을 나타내었다. 낮은 온도 영역에서는 $Ni/Al_2O_3$에 Ce와 Sr을 첨가한 촉매가 Co계 촉매보다 우수한 반응특성을 나타내었다. $Co/Al_2O_3$$Ni/Al_2O_3$에 조촉매를 첨가한 경우 촉매의 표면적이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

Pyridine의 수첨탈질 반응에 있어서 텅스텐 촉매에 대한 조촉매의 영향 (Influence of Promoters on the Tungsten - Catalysts in Hydrodenitrogenation of Pyridine)

  • A series of supported sulfided Ni-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and Co-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalysts with different nickel and cobalt contents were studied in the hydrodenitrogenation of pyridine dissolved in n-heptane. The ranges of experimental conditions were at the temperatures between 453 and 753 K, and the pressures between 30 and 50 Bar. The catalytic activities with different nickel and cobalt contents were shown to be maximum at Ni/Ni+W = 0.2 - 0.3, Co/Co+W = 0.3 - 0.4. Pyridine conversion increased with pressure and temperature and the step of piperidine formation was found to be irreversible. The reaction orders in Ni-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and Co-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalysts were the first with respect to pyridine and reaction rate constants decreased with increase of initial pyridine concentration and their activation energies were 12.98 and 9.23 kcal/mol, respectively.

Processing and Mechanical Properties of Ni-Cr and Ni-Cr-Al Foams by Pack-Cementation

  • Open-cell Ni-Cr and Ni-Cr-Al(with gamma/gamma prime microstructure typical of Bi-base super alloys) foams are manufactured by pack-cementation at $1000{\boxplus}$degrees C, followed by homogenization at $1200{\boxplus}C$. The resulting alloyed foams retain the low relative densities (less than 3.5 wt.%). The oxidation behavior of Ni-Cr foams turns out to be identical to that of bulk Ni-Cr alloys, after taking into account the foam's higher surface area. The room-temperature compressive behavior of the Ni-Cr and Ni-Cr-Al is compared to model predictions. Additionally, the foam creep behavior, measured between 680 and $825{\boxplus}C$ in the stress range of 0.1-0.3 MPa, compared to two analytical models, namely strut compression and strut bending as high-temperature deformation modes.

블록형 Ni-Cr-Al 분말 다공성 소재의 미세조직 및 인장 변형 거동 (Microstructure and Tensile Deformation Behavior of Ni-Cr-Al Powder Porous Block Material)

  • This study investigated the microstructure and tensile properties of a recently made block-type Ni-Cr-Al powder porous material. The block-type powder porous material was made by stacking multiple layers of powder porous thin plates with post-processing such as additional compression and sintering. This study used block-type powder porous materials with two different cell sizes: one with an average cell size of $1,200{\mu}m$ (1200 foam) and the other with an average cell size of $3,000{\mu}m$ (3000 foam). The ${\gamma}$-Ni and ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Ni_3Al$ were identified as the main phases of both materials. However, in the case of the 1,200 foam, a ${\beta}$-NiAl phase was additionally observed. The relative density of each block-type powder porous material, with 1200 foam and 3000 foam, was measured to be 5.78% and 2.93%, respectively. Tensile tests were conducted with strain rates of $10^{-2}{\sim}10^{-4}sec^{-1}$. The test result showed that the tensile strength of the 1,200 foam was 6.0~7.1 MPa, and that of 3,000 foam was 3.0~3.3 MPa. The elongation of the 3,000 foam was higher (~9%) than that (~2%) of the 1,200 foam. This study also discussed the deformation behavior of block-type powder porous material through observations of the fracture surface, with the results above.

전기선 폭발법에 의하여 제조된 Al-Ni 합금 나노분말의 선택적 침출 (The Selective Leaching of Al-Ni Alloy Nano Powders Prepared by Electrical Wire Explosion)

  • Al-Ni alloy nano powders have been produced by the electrical explosion of Ni-plated Al wire. The porous nano particles were prepared by leaching for Al-Ni alloy nano powders in 20wt% NaOH aqueous solution. The structural properties of leached porous nano powder were investigated by nitrogen physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission Microscope (TEM). The surface areas of the leached powders were increased with amounts of AI in alloys. The pore size distributions of these powders were exhibited maxima at range of pore diameters 3.0 to 3.5 nm from the desorption isotherm. The maximum values of those were decreased with amounts of Al in alloys.

비정질 $Zr_{65}Al_8Ni_{15}Cu_{12}$ 금속합금의 전기화학적 부식 특성 (Electrochemical Corrosion Behaviors of Amorphous $Zr_{65}Al_8Ni_{15}Cu_{12}$ Alloy)

  • This study was undertaken to measure the electrochemical corrosion of amorphous $Zr_{65}Al_8Ni_{15}Cu_{12}$ (at.%) alloy ribbon under various conditions, including 0.4 mM HCl solution, and for various values of the pH and the immersion time. The corrosion potentials($E_{corr}$) for the amorphous $Zr_{65}Al_8Ni_{15}Cu_{12}$ alloy in 0.4 mM HCl decreased with increasing temperature; the corrosion current density($I_{corr}$) increased with increasing temperature in general. The polarization resistance($R_p$) was inversely proportional to the corrosion rate. While pH=7, 9, 11 was not as sensitive as pH=3, 5, pH=3 was more sensitive for amorphous $Zr_{65}Al_8Ni_{15}Cu_{12}$ alloy than other pHs specially. The change of mass in the 70 mM $H_2SO_4$ solution with immersion time was the greatest in the first 100 h.

Ni-25at.%Al 금속간화합물의 연소합성반응에 미치는 사전 Annealing 처리의 영향 (Effects of Pre-Annealing Treatment on the Combustion Synthesis of Ni3Al Intermetallics Coating)

  • The problem with intermetallics coating using the heat of molten casting is that the heat generated during combustion synthesis dissolves the coating and the substrate metal. This study investigates whether pre-annealing before synthesis can control the reaction heat, with the aim of Ni3Al coating on the casting surface. Therefore, the effects of the annealing temperature and time on the combustion synthesis behavior of the powder compact of Ni-25at%Al after annealing were investigated. As results, the reaction heat when synthesized decreased as the annealing temperature was high and the annealing time was longer. This was attributed to the fact that Al was diffused to Ni particles during low temperature annealing and intermediate Ni-Al compounds were formed during high temperature annealing. After combustion synthesis, however, it was found that their microstructures were almost identical except for the amount of intermediate intermetallics. Furthermore, an annealing temperature above 450℃, at which intermediate compounds begin to form, is needed to prevent the dissolving problem during synthesizing. The intermetallics synthesized after annealing at higher temperature and prolonger annealing time showed a good wear resistance. This might be because much intermediate intermetallics of high hardness were remained in the microstructure.
