Effect of Columnar Structures on Exchange Anisotropy Field in Magnetoresistive NiO/NiFe Bilayers

  • A series of NiO/NiFe bilayer films are deposited with the variation of Ar sputtering pressure for the NiO layers only. As the pressure for the NiO layers increases, the exchange anisotropy field (HEX) decreases gradually and becomes extinct at 2.5 mTorr, at which the maximum coercive force (HC) in the NiO/NiFe films is obtained. Randomly oriented columnar structures with HEX a few tens of Oe and oriented columnar structures with zero HEX are observed in the NiP layers by highvoltage hihg-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The vanishing of the HEX in the oriented structures is attributed to the lack of exchange anisotropy energy (EEX) between NiO and NiFe layers, which results in little contribution of interfacial unidirectional pinning anisotropy to the interface of NiO/NiFe bilayer.

Corrosion of Fe-Cr Steels at 600-800℃ in NaCl Salts

  • NaCl-induced hot corrosion behavior of ASTM T22 (Fe-2.25Cr-1Mo), T91 (Fe-9Cr-1Mo), T92 (Fe-9Cr-1.8W-0.5Mo), 347HFG (Fe-18-Cr-11Ni), and 310H (Fe-25Cr-19Ni) steels was studied after spraying NaCl on the surface. During corrosion at $600-800^{\circ}C$ for 50-100 h, thick, non-adherent, fragile, somewhat porous oxide scales formed. All the alloys corroded fast with large weight gains owing to fast scaling and destruction of protective oxide scales. Corrosion rates increased progressively as the corrosion temperature and time increased. Corrosion resistance increased in the order of T22, T91, T92, 347HFG, and 310H, suggesting that the alloying elements of Cr, Ni, and W beneficially improved the corrosion resistance of steels. Basically, Fe oxidized to $Fe_2O_3$, and Cr oxidized to $Cr_2O_3$, some of which further reacted with FeO to form $FeCr_2O_4$ or with NiO to form $NiCr_2O_4$.

  • The effect of $Ti^{+4}$ addition on the sinterability, microstructure, and temperature dependence of electromechanical coupling factor of magnetostrictive Ni-Cu-Co ferrite was investigated. The density of Ni-Cu-Co ferrite slightly increased by 2.0 mole % addition of either $TiO_2$ or $Fe_2TiO_4$, but tended to decrease by more than 2.0 mole % addition of $TiO_2$ or $Fe_2TiO_4$. As the content of either $TiO_2$ or $Fe_2TiO_4$ increased, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy compensation temperature also increased. Microstructure studies showed the stable grains when Ni-Cu-Co ferrite was sintered above 1, 20$0^{\circ}C$.

Synthesis and Characteristics of W-Ni-Fe Nanocomposite Powder by Hydrogen Reduction of Oxides (산화물 수소환원에 의한 W-Ni-Fe 나노복합분말의 합성과 특성)

  • The synthesis and characteristics of W-Ni-Fe nanocomposite powder by hydrogen reduction of ball milled W-Ni-Fe oxide mixture were investigated. The ball milled oxide mixture was prepared by high energy attrition milling of W blue powder, NiO and $Fe_2O_3$ for 1 h. The structure of the oxide mixture was characteristic of nano porous agglomerate composite powder consisting of nanoscale particles and pores which act as effective removal path of water vapor during hydrogen reduction process. The reduction experiment showed that the reduction reaction starts from NiO, followed by $Fe_2O_3$ and finally W oxide. It was also found that during the reduction process rapid alloying of Ni-Fe yielded the formation of $\gamma$-Ni-Fe. After reduction at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, the nano-composite powder of W-4.57Ni-2.34Fe comprising W and $\gamma$-Ni-Fe phases was produced, of which grain size was35nm for W and 87 nm for $\gamma$-Ni-Fe, respectively. Sinterability of the W heavy alloy nanopowder showing full density and sound microstructure under the condition of 147$0^{\circ}C$/20 min is thought to be suitable for raw material for powder injection molding of tungsten heavy alloy.

Electromagetic Wave Absorbing Properties of $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$(X=Cu, Mg, Mn)-Rubber Composite ($Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$(X=Cu, Mg, Mn)-Rubber Composite의 전파흡수특성에 관한 연구)

  • Electromagnetic wave asorbing properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$, where X was replaced by substitution elements Cu, Mg, Mn, have been studied. The structure, shape, size and magnetic properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were analyzed by XRD, SEM, VSM. The relative complex permittivity, permeability, and electromagnetic wave absorbing properties were measured by Network Analyzer. The structure, shape, size and magnetization value of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were found to be similar in spite of substitution elements. The coercive force and hysteresis-loss showed maximum value when Mg was substituted for X. The dielectric loss(${\varepsilon}_r"/{\varepsilon}_r'$) was found to be maximum value when Mn was substituted for X. Also the magnetic loss(${\mu}_r"/{\mu}_r'$} was found to be maximum with Cu substitution. The electromagnetica wave absorbing property of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 4mm thickness was excellent as over - 40dB at 9GHz, and the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 8mm thickness was over-40dB at 2GHz. Those composites also showed superior microwave absorbing properties.

The Exchange Bias of NiO/NiFe Thin Eilm by the Measurement of Anisotropic Mngnetoresistance (이방성 자기저항측정을 이용한 NiO/NiFe 박막의 교환결합연구)

  • We report an experimental evidence of coexistence of the strong and weak exchange couplings in unidirectional NiO/NiFe (antiferromagneticlferromagnetic) bilayer thin films. The exchange bias was measured by VSM and AMR techniques and then, analyzed into the strong and weak exchange couplings by means of a regression method. In NiO(60nm)/NiFe(10nm) film, the ratio of the weak exchange coupling field over the average exchange coupling field was found to be almost unchanged within it range from 0.2 to 0.4 irrespective to the strength of an applied field. However, the ratio increased among the samples with decreasing the average exchange coupling field due to the increment of the weak exchange coupling area.

  • 상온에서 측정한 Cd$_{x}$Ni$_{1-x}$Fe$_{2}$O$_{4}$의 Mossbauer 스펙트럼은 조성비에 따라 x값이 0.4이하인 시료에서는 준강자성에 의한 여섯개의 공명 흡수선, x값이 0.5인 시료에서는 이완된 형태의 공명흡수선, 그리고 x값이 0.6시료인 상자성에 의한 두개의 공명 흡수선이 나타났다. Cd$_{x}$Ni$_{1-x}$Fe$_{2}$O$_{4}$의 x값이 0.4이하인 시료의 초미세 자기장(H$_{hf}$)과 x값이 0.6 이상인 시료의 사중극자 분열치 (Q.S.)는 Cd농도가 증가함에 따라 감소한다. 시료의자기적 성질에 따른 이성질체 이동치(I.S.)의 차이는 있으나, Ni와 Cd이온의 농도에 따른 뚜렷한 의존성은 나타나지 않았다.다.

Thermodynamic Properties of $NiFe_2O_4-NiFe_2O_4$ Spinel Solid Solution

  • The tie lines delineating ion-exchange equilibria between NiFe2O4-NiCr2O4 spinel solid solution and Fe2O3-Cr2O3 corundum solid solution were determined at 900, 1000, and 1200 ℃ by electron microprobe and energy dispersive X-ray analysis of oxide phases, using the flux growth technique. Activities of the spinel components were calculated from the tie lines, assuming Temkin's ideal mixing in the corundum solid solution. The spinel phase could be expressed by a regular solution with negative deviations from ideality. The Gibbs free energies of mixing for spinel solid solution were discussed in terms of the cation distribution model, based on site preference energies and assuming random mixing on both tetrahedral and octahedral sites.

  • The corrosion characteristics of Fe-18Cr-10Ni steels were studied between $600^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ in Ar+(0.2, 1)%$SG_2$ gas for up to 300 hr in order to employ Fe-18Cr-10Ni steels in the coal-fired power plants. The corrosion resistance of Fe-18Cr-10Ni steels was good due mainly to the high amount of Cr, which formed $Cr_2O_3$ from the initial corrosion stage. Fe in the steels corroded to mainly $Fe_2O_3$ and $Fe_3O_4$. Ni was not susceptible to corrosion under the current corrosion condition. Relatively thin, single-layered scales formed.

Fabrication and Electrical Properties of Ni-Mn-Co-Fe Oxide Thick Film NTC Thermistors (Ni-Mn-Co-Fe 산화물 후막 NTC 서미스터의 제조 및 전기적 특성)

  • Ni-Mn-Co-Fe oxide thick films were coated on an alumina substrate by screening printing technique. The microstructure and electrical properties of the thick films, as a function of composition and sintering temperature, were investigated. The components of the NTC thick films sintered at 1150${\circ}C$ were distributed homogeneously. On the other hand, in the case of the NTC thick films sintered at 1200 and 1250${\circ}C$, Co element was distributed homogeneously, but Ni, Mn and Fe elements were distributed heterogeneously, resulting in the formation of Ni rich and Mn-Fe rich regions. All the thick film NTC thermistors prepared showed a linear relationship between log resistance (log R) and the reciprocal of absolute temperature (1/T), indicative of NTC characteristics. At a given NiO and $Mn_3O_4$ content, the resistance, B constant and activation energy of $(Ni_{1.0}Mn_{1.0}Co_{1-x}Fe_x)O_4$ (0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75) and $(Ni_{0.75}Mn_{1.25}Co_{1-x}Fe_x)O_4$ (0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75) thermistors increased with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ content.
