High voltage paper-electrophoresis of fission products from 24 hour neutron-irradiated and 150 days-decayed 90% highly enriched uranyl nitrate solution has been carried out by using the specially designed migration apparatus. The separation of Zr-95 and Nb-95 from the other fission products is possible under the migration condition of 0.1 $M-HClO_4$ (pH=0.85), 0.05 M-HCl+0.09M-KCl (pH=0.9), 0.1M-HCl (pH=1.1) and 0.01 M-HCl (pH=2.0). Zr-95 and Nb-95 are separated out at+1cm from the fiducial point. The separation of Zr-95 and Nb-95 from each other is possible under the migration condition of 0.1 $M-HClO_4$, 0.05 M-HCl+0.09 M-KCl, 0.1 M-HCl and 0.1 M-HAc+0.1 M-NaAc (pH=4.68) together with 2% ammonium oxalate. Nb-95 is separated out at $-6{\sim}-7cm$ from the fiducial point and Zr-95 at $+1{\sim}-lcm$. The separation of Ru-103 from the other fission products is possible under the migration condition of 0.025 $M-Na_2CO_3+0.025\;M-NaHCO_3$ (pH=10.0), 0.01M-$Na_3PO_4$ (pH=11.7) and 0.1 M-NaOH (pH=13.2). Ru-103 migrates towards the anode -6cm, -4cm and -3cm, respectively.

Statement of problem: Recently precalcification treatment has been studied to shorten the period of the implant. Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of precalcification treatment of $TiO_2$ Nanotube formed on Ti-6Al-4V Alloy. Material and methods: Specimens of $20{\times}10{\times}2\;mm$ in dimensions were polished sequentially from #220 to #1000 SiC paper, ultrasonically washed with acetone and distilled water for 5 min, and dried in an oven at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The nanotubular layer was processed by electrochemical anodic oxidation in electrolytes containing 0.5 M $Na_2SO_4$ and 1.0 wt% NaF. Anodization was carried out using a regulated DC power supply (Kwangduck FA, Korea) at a potential of 20 V and current density of $30\;㎃/cm_2$ for 2 hours. Specimens were heat-treated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours to crystallize the amorphous $TiO_2$ nanotubes, and precalcified by soaking in $Na_2HPO_4$ solution for 24 hours and then in saturated $Ca(OH)_2$ solution for 5 hours. To evaluate the bioactivity of the precalcified $TiO_2$ nanotube layer, hydroxyapatite formation was investigated in a Hanks' balanced salts solution with pH 7.4 at $36.5^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks. Results: Vertically oriented amorphous $TiO_2$ nanotubes of diameters 48.0 - 65.0 ㎚ were fabricated by anodizing treatment at 20 V for 2 hours in an 0.5 M $Na_2SO_4$ and 1.0 NaF solution. $TiO_2$ nanotubes were composed with strong anatase peak with presence of rutile peak after heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$. The surface reactivity of $TiO_2$ nanotubes in SBF solution was enhanced by precalcification treatment in 0.5 M $Na_2HPO_4$ solution for 24 hours and then in saturated $Ca(OH)_2$ solution for 5 hours. The immersion in Hank's solution for 2 weeks showed that the intensity of $TiO_2$ rutile peak increased but the surface reactivity decreased by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$. Conclusion: This study shows that the precalcified treatment of $TiO_2$ Nanotube formed on Ti-6Al-4V Alloy enhances the surface reactivity.
Methanol-utilizing bacterium isolated from sewage samples in Seoul showed optimal temperature and pH of $33^{\circ}C$ and 7.1 for growth, respectively. The maximum specific growth rate was $0.42hr^{-1}$. The minimum medium composition was reconstituted depending on the surplus and the deficit of each component in the basal medium at steady state. The optimal composition was given as(g/l); Methanol 40, $(NH_4)_2\;SO_42, \;KH_2PO_4\;1.5, \;K_2HPO_4\;0.2, \;H_3PO_4\;0.79, \;Na_2HPO_4{\cdot}12H_2O\;0.15, \;MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O\;1.5, \;FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O\;0.034, \;MnSO_4{\cdot}4H_2O\;0.005, \;CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O\;0.0027, \;CaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O\;0.25, \;ZnSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O\;0.007, \;(NH_4)_6\;Mo_7O_{24}{\cdot}4H_2O\;0.00048, \;H_3BO_3\;0.00068, \;CoCl_2\; 0.00024$ Under the continuous culture with optimum medium the maximum cell productivity was 3.8g/1/hr at dilution rate $0.23hr^{-1}$. Maximum cell concentration and its protein content were 19.5g/l and 70% at dilution rate of $0.1hr^{-1}$, respectively.
An actinomycetes which produces fibrinolytic enzyme was isolated from soil. Characteristics of the isolated strain and the optimal conditions for the productions of fibrinolytic enzyme were summarized as follows; The fibrinolytic enzyme production strain generates gray airmycelium and had about 0.6~0.8$\times$0.4~0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ cylindrical spore, smooth surface and formed spore chain of 10~40 spores. We have identified this strain as Streptomyces sp. JK-20. This strain was able to grow up at 20~32$^{\circ}C$ and its optimum growth temperature and pH was 24$^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0, respectively. The optimal conditions for porducing fibrinolytic enzyme; carbon source, nitrogen source, metal ions and phosphorous sources was 1% xylose, 0.5% yeast extract, 0.5% polypepton, 0.1% MgSO$_4$.7$H_2O$ and 0.1% NaH$_2$PO$_4$.2$H_2O$, respectively. This strain showed the highest productivity of fibrinolytic enzyme after the fourth day under such optimal culture conditions.
The elution behaviour of molybdate and tungstate through anion exchange column has been studied at the various pH. A discussion is made to evaluate the equilibrium constants of the polymerization of these acids comparing with the behaviour of chromate ion and dichromate ion. The eqailibrium constants found at $20^{\circ}$ are $K = 4{\times}10^{53} for 7MoO_4^{2-} + 8H^+ {\longleftrightarrow} Mo7O_{24}^{6- }+ 4H_2O$$ K = 3{\times}10^{54} for 6WO_4^{2-} + 7H^+ {\longleftrightarrow} HW6O_{21}^{5-} + 7H_2O$ referring to this results the conditions of separation of tungstate and molybdate are obtained. iThe quantitative separations of carbonate, molybdate and tungstate from the pregnant solution have been established by anion exchange chromatography, using the $22 cm{\times}44.27 cm^2$ column of Rexyn 201. The optimum eluents for the quantitative separation of those ions are as follows; 0.2M solution of sodium chloride at pH 8 for carbonate, the mixture of 0.5 M ammonium chloride and 0.05 M sodium sulfate at pH 5 for molybdate and 0.5 M solution of ammonium chloride at pH 10 for tungstate. Tungstate is directly recovered from the pregnant solution as a form of ammonium paratungstate, by eluting with ammonium chloride solution.

Crystallographic phases of Plasma electrolytic oxidized Al alloy, A1100, A5052, A6061, A6063, A7075, were investigated. Two types of electrolyte $Na_2Si_2O_3$ and Na2P2O7 were also compared. Bipolar pulse, $2000{\mu}sec$ with $400{\mu}sec+420V$ impulse and $300{\mu}sec$ - impulse were applied for 20 min. ${\alpha}-alumina$, ${\gamma}-alumina$, ${\eta}-alumina$, $Al_{4.95}Si_{1.05}O_{9.52}$, and $(Al_{0.9}Cr_{0.1})_2O_3$ were mainly observed. Si, component of electrolyte, were moved into the PEO layer by bipolar pulse. Glassy phase was also observed at the surface of $Na_2Si_2O_3$ electrolyte treated PEO layer, and increased with the Mg content of Al alloy. It is concluded that at first glassy phase was formed by the micro plasma, and the high temperature of plasma turns glassy phase to several crystalline phases. And we could expect that many other crystalline phase could be formed by PEO process.
An alkaline protease was purified and characterized from an alkalophilic microorganism, Bacillus sp. DK1122, isolated from soil in central Korea. The optimum temperature and pH for the growth of the producer strain were 40℃ and pH 9.0, respectively. The protease was produced aerobically at 40℃ after 24 h incubation in modified Horikoshi I medium (pH 9.0) containing 0.5% (w/v) glucose, 0.8% (w/v) yeast extract, 0.5% (w/v) polypeptone, 0.1% (w/v) K2HPO4, 0.02% (w/v) MgSO4·7H2O, 1% (w/v) Na2CO3, and 3% (w/v) NaCl. The alkaline protease was purified by 70% ammonium sulfate precipitation of the culture supernatant of Bacillus sp. DK1122, followed by CM-Sepharose chromatography. The molecular weight of the enzyme was estimated to be 27 kDa on the basis of SDS-PAGE. The optimum temperature and pH for the protease activity were 60℃ and pH 9.0, respectively. Addition of CaCl2 increased the thermal stability of the purified protease, where 90% of protease activity was retained at 60℃ for up to 3 h. Consequently, it is expected that the alkaline protease from this study, exhibiting stability at pH 7–9 and 60℃, may be promising for application in the food and detergent industries.
For the biological treatment of industrial wastewater containing high concentration of phenol, isolation and characterization of phenol - degrading bacterium were carried out. A bacterial strain P2 capable of degrading phenol was isolated from contaminated soils by enrichment culture technique and identified as the genus Rhodococcus by morphological, cultural, biochemical characteristics, and Biolog system. The optimal medium composition and cultural conditions for the growth and degradation of phenol by Rhodococcus sp. P2 were 0.1% of (NH$_4$)$_2$SO$_4$, 0.2% of KH$_2$PO$_4$, 0.25% of Na$_2$HPO$_4$ㆍ12$H_2O$, 0.2% of MgSO$_4$ㆍ7$H_2O$, and 0.008% of CaC1$_2$ㆍ2$H_2O$ along with initial pH 8.5 at 3$0^{\circ}C$. Rhodococcus sp. P2 could grow with phenol as the sole carbon source up to 1,800 ppm in batch cultures, but did not grow in medium containing above 2,000 ppm of phenol. When 800 ppm phenol was given in the optimal media, Rhodococcus sp. P2 completely degraded it within 24 h. Meanwhile, 1,800 ppm of phenol was degraded within 9 days. Rhodococcus sp. P2 could utilize toluene, n-hexane, xylene and benzene as sole carbon source .
