Studies on the Chemical Compositions and Distributions of Ambient Sumicron Aerosols (Submicron 부유분진의 화학적 조성 및 분포에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey chemical distribution of inorganic elements and ions in the submicron particles, to characterize qualitatively emitting sources by factor analysis, and finally to reveal existing patterns in terms of chemical compounds by a stepwise multiple regression analysis. Total of 141 samples were collected by a cascade impactor from 1989 to1996. Fifteen chemical species (Al, Ba, Cd, K, Pb, Cu, Fe, Ni, $Cl^-, NO_3^-, SO_4^{2-}, K^+, Mg^{2+}, Ca^{2+}, and Na^+$) were characterized by AAS and IC. The study showed that average seasonal levels of submicron particulate matters $(d_p<0.43 \mum)$ were 18.7 $\mug/m^3$ in spring, 15.5 $\mug/m^3$ in summer, 15.7 $\mug/m^3$ in fall, and 24.5 $\mug/m^3$ in winter, respectively. All of the anion concentrations in the particle were highest in the winter season. By applying a factor analysis, 5 source patterns were qualitatively obtained, such as sulfate related source, nitrate related source, oil burning source, calcium related source, and coal combustion source. Finally, when applying a stepwise multiple regression analysis, the results clearly showed that $Na^+ and Ca^{2+}, K^+ and Ca^{2+}, NO_3^-$ and relative humidity, $Cl^-$ and ambient temperature, $Ca^{2+} and Cl^-, Mg^{2+} and SO_4^{2-}, Na^+ and NO_3^-, and Ca^{2+} and NO_3^-$, respectively, are negatively contributed to each other. As a result of those statistical analysis, we could suggest that some chemical compounds in the submicron particles such as$NaNO_3, MgSO_4, Ca(NO_3)_2, and CaCl_2$ may not exist on the filter as final composing products; however, other compounds may possibly exist in the form of $Mg(NO_3)_2, CaSO_4, Na_2SO_4, K_2SO_4, MgCl_2, NaCl, and KCl$. Thus, it must be necessary to identify differences between the results of above statistical analysis and of the real world by laboratory experiments.

  • In this work, we analyzed the viscoelastic characteristics of electrochemically polymerized polypyrrole(PPy) thin film in various electrolyte solutions, $Na_2SO_4,\;Na_2CO_3$ and SDS + $NaClO_4$, using QCA. The characteristics of redox reaction of electrochemically polymerized PPy thin film for 180 sec in each electrolyte, was investigated in 0.1 M $NaClO_4$ electrolyte solution by cyclic voltammetry method. We used one side of quartz crystal electrode as a working electrode and measured the resonant frequency, resonant resistance and current as analytical parameters. As the results, we suggest that electrochemically polymerized PPy thin film in various electrolyte solutions shows tendency changing from elastic characteristics to viscoelastic one in the order of $ClO_4{^{-}}\;+\;DS^-,\;SO_4{^{-2}}$ and $CO_3{^{-2}}$.

Growth Performance, Carcass Traits and Serum Mineral Chemistry as Affected by Dietary Sodium and Sodium Salts Fed to Broiler Chickens Reared under Phase Feeding System

  • A basal diet (0.8 g/kg dNa) was formulated in which each of the two sources ($NaHCO_3$ and $Na_2SO_4$) were supplemented in such a way to attain four levels (1.7, 2.6, 3.5, and 4.4 g/kg) of total dNa, respectively, under $4{\times}2$ factorial arrangement. Eight dietary treatments were replicated four times, with 40 birds in each replicate (n = 1,280). The diets supplemented with $Na_2SO_4$ to attain higher levels of dNa showed highest BW gain and feed intake (FI) during d 1 to 10 (interaction effects) while 2.6 g/kg dNa exhibited improved BW gain and gain:feed (FG) during d 11 to 20. Linear rise in daily water intake (DWI) was associated with diets containing increasing dNa during d 1 to 42 ($p{\leq}0.036$). During the first 10 d, DWI:FI was found highest in $NaHCO_3$ diets while $Na_2SO_4$ diets showed highest DWI:FI during last 10 d of the experiment ($p{\leq}0.036$). Increasing dNa and changing $Na_2SO_4$ with $NaHCO_3$ salt increased pH and resulted in poor growth performance. Dressing weight ($p{\leq}0.001$) and abdominal fat ($p{\leq}0.001$; quadratic effect) were reduced, whereas breast ($p{\leq}0.001$) and thigh (p<0.001) weights were aggravated with increasing dNa (linear effects). Present findings suggested higher levels of dNa from $Na_2SO_4$ as the supplemental salt in broiler diets would produce better growth performance, especially in first ten days of life, and improve carcass and body organ characteristics.

  • 1) electron-microprobe를 응용하여 $CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ 계에서 생성한 $C_2S$, $C_3S$ 에 존재하는 sulfate의 solid, solution을 정량적으로 구할 수 있었으며 이 결과로 $C_2S$$Al_2O_3$, $SO_3$ 등이 solid soln 등으로 침적되고 이들이 $C_3S$의 생성을 억제한다는 mechanism이 확인되었다. 2) phase equilibrium(상평형)에 의하면 $Na_2SO_4$, $K_2SO_4$는 mineralizer로서 작용하며 $C_3S$ 의 생성을 돕는다. 그러나 $K_2SO_4$$Al_2SO_3$ 가 결합상태로 존재할 경우는 1,400 $^{\circ}C$에서 광범위한 liquid를 생성하며 quenching하면 glass질과 $\beta-C_2S$ 만이 얻어지고 $C_3S$ 는 생성되지 않는다. 또 이를 1,250 $^{\circ}C$ 까지 서냉하면 $C_2S$ 와 Ca, K, Al, S, 등을 함유한 새로운 물질이 생성된다. 3) $CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-Fe_2O_3$ 계에서 $C_3S$ 의 생성에 미치는 $Na_2SO_4$, $K_2SO_4$ 의 영향을 실험실적으로 검토한 결과 complex interaction이 확인되었으며 $Na_2SO_4$ 는 어떤 경우에는 mineralizing effect를 상실한다는 재미 있는 사실이 발견되었다.

A Study on the Chemical Composition of Precipitation during the Period of Sandy Dust Phenomena (黃砂現象時 降水의 化學的 成分에 關한 硏究)

  • Sandy dust phenomena was observed from April 19 to 23, 1988 in Seoul. During this period it rained and the precipitation was collected to investigate the rain chemistry. This study was carried out to analyzed the chemical composition of precipitation by the measurements of conditivity, cations $(H^+, NH_4^+, K^+, Na^+, Ca^{2+}, MG^{2+})$, and anions $(SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^-, F^-, Br^-)$ which are believed to be the major ions playing an important role in the acidity of rain water. During the period of sandy dust phenomena the range of pH value and conductivity concentration of rainwater were 6.0-6.7, 172-254 $\mu \mho/cm$. The anions and cations concentrations increased and the orders of these concentrations were $SO_4^{2-} > Cl^- > NO_3^- > Na^+ > Ca^{2+} > NH_4^+ > Mg^{2+}$. THe principal chemical compounds of rainwater were estimated at $(NH_4)_2 SO_4, CaSO_4, NaCl, and MgCl_2$.

Simple and Rapid Extraction of a Bacteriocin Produced by Streptococcus parauberis Z49 from Fermented Cultures (발효배양액에서 Streptococcus parauberis Z49균주가 생산하는 Bacteriocin의 간편한 추출)

  • A novel bacteriocin produced by Streptococcus parauberis Z49 strain was characterized and efficiently extracted from fermented cultures by use of aqueous two-phase systems. The nisin-like bacteriocin, which was active even after a heat treatment at $121^{\circ}C$ for 15 min and in the broad pH range from 2 to 12, showed inhibition of bacterial growth of Micrococcus luteus, Lactobacillus spp., Lactobacillus fermentum, Enterococcus faecium, Listereia monocytogenes, and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Optimal conditions of PEG 600/$Na_2SO_4$ aqueous two-phase systems for the simple and rapid extraction of a novel bacteriocin were determined to be PEG 600 15%, $Na_2SO_4$ 30%, and NaCl 8%, where the bacteriocin was concentrated in PEG layer.

Effect of High Concentrations of Sodium or Chloride Salts in Soil on the Growth of and Mineral Uptake by Tomatoes (토양에의 고농도 Na 및 Cl 염류가 토마토의 생육 및 무기성분 흡수에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of high concentration of sodium salts and chlorides in soil on the growth of tomato and the uptake of minerals. The growth inhibition rates of plant height and dry weight were different depending on salts, but they were not related to the electric conductivities (EC) and acidities (pH) in the soil solution. The orders of growth inhibition were Cl, SO$_4$, CO$_3$, PO$_4$>NO$_3$ in the sodium salts series, and Na, K, Mg, NH$_4$>Ca in the chlorides. The growth inhibition rates of the sodium salts series tended to be larger than those of the chloride series. Yield was lower 30%~10% in the sodium salt and chloride series than in the control. Chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance were lower in the sodium salts and chloride series than in the control. Mineral concentration was lower in sodium salts and chlorides than in control. The nitrate absorption was inhibited in all salts except for NaNO$_3$ and NH$_4$Cl, and specially in NaCl and Na$_2$SO$_4$ treatments of the sodium salts and in KCl treatment of chloride series. K concentration was reduced NaCl and Na$_2$SO$_4$ treatments compared with the other salts. In the sodium salt series, calcium and magnesium concentration were decreased antagonistically when sodium concentration was increased.

Effect of Alumina Content on the Hot Corrosion of SiC by NaCl and Na2SO4 (NaCl과 Na₂SO₄에 의한 SiC 고온 부식에 미치는 Alumina 첨가량의 영향)

  • The specimens for the corrosion test were made by hot-pressing of SiC power with 2 wt% Nl2O3 and 10wt% Al2O3 additions at 2000℃ and 2050℃. The specimens were corroded in 37 mole% NaCl and 63 mole% Na2SO4 salt mixture at 1000℃ up to 60 min. SiO2 layer was formed on SiC and then this oxide layer was dissolved by Na2O ion in the salt mixture. The rate of corrosion of the specimen containing 10 wt% Al2O3 was slower than that of the specimen containing 2 wt% Al2O3. This is due to the presence of continuous grain boundary phase in the specimen containing 10 wt% Al2O3. The oxidation of SiC produced gas bubbles at the SiC-SiO2 interface. The rate of corrosion follows a linear rate law up to 50 min. and then was accelerated. This acceleration is due to the disruption oxide layer by the gas evolution at SiC-SiO2 interface. Pitting corrosion has found at open pores and grain boundaries.

Synthesis of Zn-intermediate from alkali agents and its transformation to ZnO crystallinity (알칼리 침전제에 의해 제조된 아연 중간생성물 및 산화아연 결정화)

  • ZnO was synthesized according to the transformation behavior and crystallization conditions of Zn-intermediate obtained by zinc sulfate as a precursor and NaOH, Na2CO3 as a alkali agents. For ZnO crystallization, Zn4(OH)6SO4·H2O and Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2·H2O as a Zn-intermediate were calcined at 400℃ and 800℃ for 1 h, respectively, based on decomposition temperature from TGA. Zn4(OH)6SO4·H2O was confirmed to have mixed Zn4(OH)6SO4·H2O and ZnO at 400℃, and was completely thermally decomposed at 800℃ to form ZnO phase. The prepared Zn5(OH)6(CO3)2·H2O as a Zn-intermediate by the reaction with Na2CO3 was transformed to a complete ZnO crystallization over 400℃. Nano-sized ZnO can be synthesized at a relatively lower calcination temperature through the reaction with Na2CO3.
