Gerber (Gerbera hybrida) is a valuable ornamental species grown as a potted plant and cut flowers. However, genetic variability within the gerbera genus is very limited. So it is absolutely needed to introduce and widen genetic resources into gerbera lines by genetic transformation. For the purpose, 18 Korean gerbera lines were screened to establish Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation procedure. In an experiment to select Korean gerbera lines which are amenable to Agrobacterium-inoculation, 12 lines turned out to be positive in Agrobacterium-inoculation. More callus were produced from BA 2ppm, Zeatin 2ppm, IAA 0.2ppm in pre-culture and regeneration medium (2X media) but there was no difference in the frequency of GUS expression rate. In another experiment to find out optimal condition for highly efficient Agrobacterium-inoculation, petiole and leaf explants have been treated with four different pre-culture periods, two different co-culture periods and two different Agrobacterium strains. As a result, high GUS expression has been showed from petiole and leaf explants treated no pre-culture period with LBA4404 Agrobacterium tumerfaciens, 5 day co-culture period and dipping treatment.

Mn catalyst promoted with Cu were prepared and tested for selective catalytic reduction of $NO_x$ with $NH_3$. Performance of each catalyst was investigated for $NO_x$ activity while changing temperature, space velocity, water content and $O_2$ concentration. Hydrogen conversion efficiency of catalyst was also measured in the $H_2$-TPR system. The inhibition effect of water on catalyst was investigated with the on-off control of water supply. High activity of Mn-Cu catalyst was observed for $160{\sim}260^{\circ}C$. It is found that increase of oxygen concentration acts as a promotor to the increase of catalyst activity but water content acts as a inhibitor.

In this study we investigated the regeneration methods for the lean $NO_x$ trap (LNT) catalyst in a 2.2L direct injection diesel engine. The regeneration methods were 1) in-cylinder post fuel injection and 2) external fuel injection strategy. The in-cylinder post fuel injection method uses in-cylinder injectors with the addition of the post fuel injection to supply enough reductants such as CO, $H_2$, THC. The external fuel injection method was enabled by installing a fuel injector with a wide spray angle before the LNT catalyst. Through the engine experiment, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency, the amount of reductant exhaust gases, fuel consumption, and temperature behavior in the LNT catalyst were evaluated and compared for the two regeneration methods.

Various modified SCR catalysts were prepared and tested to improve the strength of catalysts for use under severe conditions. The SCR catalysts were modified with a binder and dispersion agent, and tested at the fixed bed reactor. FT-IR and $H_2$-TPR were used to analyze the degree of hydrogen use and ammonia adsorption by the modified catalysts. In the case of the SCR catalysts coated with 2.3g of the binder, 4.7g of ethanol, and 0.1g of dispersion agent, the strength of catalyst was increased by approximately 12%. On the other hand, despite the enhancement of strength, the activities of the SCR catalysts were decreased by 2-10%. When the mixed solution composed of binder, dispersion agent and $SiO_2$ solution was precipitated on the catalyst, the $NO_x$ conversion of the catalyst was decreased slightly. The Bronsted acid site and Lewis acid site worked as the activators for the SCR reaction, and were decreased by $SiO_2$.
Several experiments were carried out to transfer LEAFY gene to Dendranthema grandiflora 'Shuho-no-chikara' by Agrobacterium LBA4404 carrying pSK109 encoding LEAFY gene. Kanamycin 10mg/L was used in first selection medium, and 20mg/L in the second one. Co-culture for 3 days was more effective in increasing transformation efficiency than that for 7 days. The transformation efficiency by Agrobacterium LBA4404 carrying pSK109 encoding LEAFY gene was about 2.8% until the second selection, but only 0.13% of shoots (two plants) was confirmed as a transgenic plants in Southern analysis. The escape of putative transformants was occured seriously in the process of selections, PCR analysis for confirming of neomycin phosphotransferaseII (npt II), and Southern analysis for LEAFY gene. One transgenic plant appeared 7 days'early flowering in field.
Heterogeneously-catalyzed oxidation of aqueous phase trichloroethylene (TCE) over supported metal oxides has been conducted to establish an approach to eliminate ppm levels of organic compounds in water. A continuous flow reactor system was designed to effect predominant reaction parameters in determining catalytic activity of the catalysts for wet TCE decomposition as a model reaction. 5 wt.% $CoO_x/TiO_2$ catalyst exhibited a transient period in activity vs. on-stream time behavior, suggesting that the surface structure of the $CoO_x$ might be altered with on-stream hours; regardless, it is probable to be the most promising catalyst. Not only could the bare support be inactive for the wet decomposition reaction at $36^{\circ}C$, but no TCE removal also occurred by the process of adsorption on $TiO_2$ surface. The catalytic activity was independent of all particle sizes used, thereby representing no mass transfer limitation in intraparticle diffusion. Very low TCE conversion appeared for $TiO_2$-supported $NiO_x$ and $CrO_x$ catalysts. Wet oxidation performance of supported Cu and Fe catalysts, obtained through an incipient wetness and ion exchange technique, was dependent primarily on the kinds of the metal oxides, in addition to the acidic solid supports and the preparation routes. 5 wt.% $FeO_x/TiO_2$ catalyst gave no activity in the oxidation reaction at $36^{\circ}C$, while 1.2 wt.% Fe-MFI was active for the wet decomposition depending on time on-stream. The noticeable difference in activity of the both catalysts suggests that the Fe oxidation states involved to catalytic redox cycle during the course of reaction play a significant role in catalyzing the wet decomposition as well as in maintaining the time on-stream activity. Based on the results of different $CoO_x$ loadings and reaction temperatures for the decomposition reaction at $36^{\circ}C$ with $CoO_x/TiO_2$, the catalyst possessed an optimal $CoO_x$ amount at which higher reaction temperatures facilitated the catalytic TCE conversion. Small amounts of the active ingredient could be dissolved by acidic leaching but such a process gave no appreciable activity loss of the $CoO_x$ catalyst.

Thermochemical treatment of sewage sludge is an energy-intensive process due to its high moisture content. To save the energy consumed during the process, the hydrothermal carbonization process for sewage sludge can be used to convert sewage sludge into clean solid fuel without pre-drying. This study is aimed to investigate co-firing characteristics of the hydrothermally carbonated sewage sludge (HCS) to a pulverized coal combustion system. The purpose of the measurement is to measure the pollutants produced during co-firing and combustion efficiency. The combustion system used in this study is a furnace with a down-firing swirl burner of a $80kW_{th}$ thermal input. Two sub-bituminous coals were used as a main fuel, and co-firing ratio of the sewage sludge was varied from 0% to 10% in a thermal basis. Experimental results show that $NO_x$ is 400 ~ 600 ppm, $SO_x$ is 600 ~ 700 ppm, and CO is less than 100 ppm. Experimental results show that stable combustion was achieved for high co-firing ratio of the HCS. Emission of $NO_x$ and $SO_x$ was decreased for higher co-firing ratio in spite of the higher nitrogen contents in the HCS. In addition, it was found that the pollutant emission is affected significantly by composition of the main fuel, regardless of the co-firing ratios.

The efficiency of a heterogeneous ruthenium zirconia catalyst ($Ru(OH)_x/ZrO_2$) was demonstrated to the selective oxidative transformation of alkenes or alkynes. The scissions of C-C double bonds to aldehydes and triple bonds to diketones or carboxylic acids were carried out with (diacetoxyiodo)benzene as an oxidant under dichloromethane (5 mL)/water (0.5 mL) solvent system at $30^{\circ}C$ for wide range of substrates. The $Ru(OH)_x/ZrO_2$composite showed higher catalytic activity and selectivity than other ruthenium-based homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts for the scission reaction. The catalyst exhibited a high mechanical stability, and no leaching of the metal was observed during the reaction. These features ensured the reusability of the catalyst for several times for the oxidative cleavage of unsaturated hydrocarbons.
Numerical analysis was done to evaluate the chemical reaction and the reduction rate inside of selective non-catalytic reduction to denitrification in combustion process. The $NO_X$ reduction in selective non-catalytic reduction is converted to not only nitrogen but also nitrous oxide. Simultaneous $NO_X$ reduction and nitrous oxide generation suppressing is required in selective non-catalytic reduction because nitrous oxide influences the global warming as a greenhouse gas. The current study was performed compare the computational analysis in the same temperature and amount of NaOH, and in comparison with the previous research experiments and confirmed the reliability of the computational fluid dynamics. Additionally, controlling the addition amount of NaOH to predict the $NO_X$ reduction efficiency and nitrous oxide production. Numerical analysis was done to check the mass fraction of each material in the measurement point at the end of selective non-catalytic reduction. Experimental Value and simulation value by numerical analysis showed an error of up to 18.9% was confirmed that a generally well predicted. and it was confirmed that the widened temperature range of more than 70% $NO_X$ removal rate is increased when the addition amount of NaOH. So, large and frequent changes of the reaction temperature waste incineration facilities are expected to be effective.

A dense mixed ionic and electronic conducting ceramic membrane is one of the most promising materials because it can be used for separation of oxygen from the mixture gas. The $ABO_3$ perovskite structure shows high chemical stability at high temperatures under reduction and oxidation atmospheres. $BaCo_{1-x-y}Fe_xZr_yO_{3-{\delta}}$ (BCFZ) was well-known material as high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity and stability in the high valence state. Glycine Nitrate Process (GNP) is rapid and effective method for powder synthesis using glycine as a fuel and show higher product crystallinity compared to solid state reaction and citrate-EDTA method. BCFZ was fabricated by modified glycine nitrate process. In order to control the burn-up reaction, $NH_4NO_3$ was used as extra nitrate. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results, BCFZ was single phase regardless of Zr dopants from y=0.1 to 0.3 on B sites. The green compacts were sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Oxygen permeability, methane partial oxidation rate and hydrogen production ability of the membranes were characterized by using Micro Gas Chromatography (Micro GC) under various condition. The high oxygen permeation flux of BCFZ 1-451 was about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. Using the humidified Argon gas, BCFZ 1-433 produced hydrogen about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$.
