New PM route via bulk mechanical alloying is developed to fabricate the solid solution semi-conductive materials with $Mg_2Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ and $Mg_2Si_{1-y}Sn_y$ for 0 < x, y < 1 and to investigate their thermoelectric materials. Since $Mg_2Si$ is n-type and both $Mg_2Ge$ and $Mg_2Sn$ are p-type, pn-transition takes place at the specified range of germanium content, x, and tin content, y. Through optimization of chemical composition, solid-solution type thermoelectric semi-conductive materials are designed both for n-and p-type materials.

Mg-Al-Sn-Si system alloy, as a promising cheap heat-resistant Mg alloy for automobile engine part, has been investigated. Refinement of microstructure and precipitation of thermally stable secondary phases are important goal for the design of heat-resistant Mg alloy. In this study, the effect of Ce on the microstructure and room temperature mechanical properties of Mg-Al-Sn-Si alloy was investigated. High thermally stable $Mg_2Si$ phases in Mg-Al-Sn-Si alloy is very useful intermetallic compound. However, the $Mg_2Si$ phases often result in poor mechanical properties due to the coarse chinese type $Mg_2Si$ phases. The experimental specimens were fabricated by fluxless melting under $CO_2+SF_6$ atmosphere and poured into the permanent pre-heated at $200^{\circ}C$. It was told that Ce addition can modify $Mg_2Si$ phases and refine microstructure and improve the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation.

열전재료는 열-전기가 상호 가역적으로 변하는 재료로서, 에너지 변환소재 분야에서 널리 각광받고 있다. 열전재료의 성능은 무차원 열전성능지수(dimensionless figure of merit, $ZT={\alpha}^2{\sigma}T/{\kappa}$)로 평가된다. 여기서 ${\alpha}$는 제벡계수(Seebeck coefficient), ${\sigma}$는 전기전도도(electrical conductivity), ${\kappa}$는 열전도도(thermal conductivity), T는 Kelvin 온도를 나타낸다. 500 K에서 800 K까지의 중온 영역에서 우수한 열전특성을 보이는 $Mg_2X$ (X=Si, Ge, Sn)와 이들의 고용체는 성분원소가 독성이 없고, 매장량이 많아 친환경 열전재료로 각광받고 있다. $Mg_2X$ 고용체 중 $Mg_2Si-Mg_2Sn$ 고용체는 Si와 Sn의 큰 원자량 차이로 인해 낮은 열전도도와 높은 성능지수(ZT)를 얻을 것이라 예상되며 열전발전 소자로서의 응용이 기대된다. Sb가 도핑된 $Mg_{2+x}Si_{0.7}Sn_{0.3}Sb_y$ (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, y=0, 0.01) 고용체를 고상합성과 기계적 합금화로 합성한 후, 진공 열간압축 성형을 통해 성공적으로 제조하였다. X선 회절분석으로 상합성과 고용체 형성 여부를 확인하였고, Mg의 과잉첨가와 Sb 도핑에 따른 열전특성의 변화를 조사하였다.

This study has been carried out to examine into wettability of Cu-5%Sn alloy in $Al_2O_3$, MgO, $SiO_2$ and graphite, respectively and investigated into the change in macrostructure of Cu-5%Sn alloy according to kind and mixing rate of mold-coating. The results obtained from the experiment are summerized as follows; 1. Cu Cu-5%Sn alloy, wettabilities of $Al_2O_3$ and MgO were good, on the other hand, wettabilities of $SiO_2$ and graphite were bad. 2. The fine equiaxed zone was created because of the role of $Al_2O_3$ and MgO as preferential nucleation sites. 3. Notwithstanding change of mixing rate of $SiO_2$ in mold coating the equixed zone was not created. 4. The area of equiaxed zone was varied according to mixing rate in the case of using $Al_2O_3$ and MgO in mold-coating.

본 연구는 1차원 나노 구조의 합성과 기초적 분석에 관한 연구로써 특히 무기 산화물 나노재료를 그 대상으로 하였다. 내용으로는 첫째, 1차원 코어 나노와이어의 합성을 하였고 Thermal evaporation, substrate의 가열, 그리고 MOCVD 를 사용한 결과들을 나열한다. 둘째, 코어-쉘 나노와이어를 제작하기 위하여 특히 쉘층의 제작방법을 연구하였는데 PECVD, ALD, 그리고 sputtering에 의한 결과들을 나열하고 간단히 설명한다. Thermal evaporation에 의한 1차원 나노와이어 합성의 경우는 MgO의 예를 들었는데 MgO 나노와이어는 Au가 증착된 기판을 열처리하여 Au dot를 형성하고 이의 morphology를 조절하여 최적의 나노와이어 합성조건을 선정하였다. 이로써 기판 morphology가 나노선의 성장및 형상에 영향을 준다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 이 사실은 In2O3기판을 사용하고 이의 표면거칠기를 열처리로 조절하므로써 역시 나노와이어의 성장을 촉진하는 방법을 찾아내었다. 또한 thermal evaporation공법은 source분말의 선택에 따라 다양한 소재를 제작가능하다는 결과를 제시하였다. 예를 들면 SiOx 층이 precoating된 chamber내에서 MgO 나노선을 합성하는 것과 동일한 조건으로 실험을 진행하면 Mg2SiO4 나노와이어가 형성된 것을 확인하였다. 또한 Sn과 MgB2 분말을 함께 적용할 경우 Sn tip을 가진 MgO 나노와이어를 얻을 수 있었다. 이는 Sn이 동시에 촉매의 역할을 하였기 때문일 것으로 추정된다. 한편 Sn과 Bi 혼합분말을 적용한 경우 Bi2Sn2O7 신소재 tip을 포함한 SnO2 나노와이어를 얻을 수 있었다. 이 경우 Bi원자가 적절한 촉매의 역할을 수행한 것으로 사료된다. Substrate의 가열공법에서는 Si wafer상에 각종 금속 즉 Au, Ag, Cu, Co, Mo, W, Pt, Pd등 초박막을 DC sputter 로 형성한후 annealing하는 기술을 사용하였다. 특기할 만한 것은 Co를 사용한 경우 나노와이어의 spring구조를 얻을 수 있었다는 점이다. MOCVD에 의하여는 Ga2O3및 Bi2O3 나노와이어를 비교적 저온에서 합성하였고 In2O3의 경우는 독특한 나노구조를 형성하였고 이의 결정학적 특성에 대하여 조사하였다.

Sb가 도핑된 $Mg_2Si_{0.5}Ge_{0.5}Sb_y$ (y=0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03) 고용체를 고상반응으로 합성하고 진공열간 압축성형을 통해 성공적으로 제조하였다. 고용 상을 확인하기 위하여 X선 회절분석을 실시하였고, 고용체 형성과 도핑에 따른 전기적 특성변화를 평가하기 위해 Hall 효과를 측정하여 전자 이동특성을 분석하였고, 323~823 K까지 전기전도도, 제벡계수, 열전도도의 측정을 통해 열전 성능지수를 평가하였다.

We present the results of extinction measurements toward the main ejecta shell of the Cassiopeia A supernova (SN) remnant using the flux ratios between the two near-infrared (NIR) [Fe II] lines at 1.26 and $1.64{\mu}m$. We find a clear correlation between the NIR extinction (E(J-H)) and the radial velocity of ejecta knots, showing that redshifted knots are systematically more obscured than blueshifted ones. This internal "self-extinction" strongly indicates that a large amount of SN dust resides inside and around the main ejecta shell. At one location in the southern part of the shell, we measure E(J-H) by the SN dust of $0.23{\pm}0.05mag$. By analyzing the spectral energy distribution of thermal dust emission at that location, we show that there are warm (~100K) and cool (~40K) SN dust components and that the latter is responsible for the observed E(J-H). We investigate the possible grain species and size of each component and find that the warm SN dust needs to be silicate grains such as $MgSiO_3$, $Mg_2SiO_4$, and $SiO_2$, whereas the cool dust could be either small (${\leq}0.01{\mu}m$) Fe or large (${\geq}0.01{\mu}m$) Si grains. We suggest that the warm and cool dust components in Cassiopeia A represent grain species produced in diffuse SN ejecta and in dense ejecta clumps, respectively.

This study investigated the effect of Pd on the microstructure, tensile and creep properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn (AT42) alloy at a high temperature for transportation-related industrial applications. AT42-xPd (x = 0, 1 and 2 wt. %) alloys were prepared using a permanent mould casting method. The microstructures of the as-cast alloys were characterized by the presence of the intermetallic phases $Mg_{17}Al_{12}$, $Mg_2Sn$ and $Al_4Pd$. The addition of Pd was found to improve the tensile properties of AT42 at room and at elevated temperatures, and to increase the creep resistance at elevated temperatures. A small amount of Pd could markedly improve the tensile properties of AT42 by means of grain-refinement and the dispersion of secondary phase strengthening. Moreover, the thermally stable phase $Al_4Pd$ effectively improves the creep resistance of AT42 due to the strengthened grain boundaries and the suppressed formation of $Mg_{17}Al_{12}$.

In this study, the effect of Sn and Mg on microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu-Fe-P alloy were investigated by using scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, tensile strength, electrical conductivity, thermal softening, size and distribution of the precipitation phases in order to satisfy characteristic for lead frame material. It was observed that Cu-0.14wt%Fe-0.03wt%P-0.05wt%Si-0.1wt%Zn with Sn and Mg indicates increasing tensile strength compare with PMC90 since Sn restrained the growth of the Fe-P precipitation phase on the matrix. However, the electrical conductivity was decreased by adding addition of Sn and Mg because Sn was dispersed on the matrix and restrained the growth of the Fe-P precipitation. The size of 100 nm $Mg_3P_2$ precipitation phase was observed having lattice parameter $a:12.01{\AA}$ such that [111] zone axis. According to the results of the study, the tensile strength and the electrical conductivity satisfied the requirements of lead frame; so, there is the possibility of application as a substitution material for lead frame of Cu alloy.

Ceramic resistors to be stable at high temperature were manufactured from using MgO, SiO2, SnO2, Bi2O3, and CeO2 by sintering in air at 125$0^{\circ}C$. Electrical resistivity with elevated temperatures was studied for the various system of the above oxides. The resistor, 1.0 MgO-1.0 SiO2-0.575 SnO2-0.005 Sb2O3-0.025 Bi2O3-0.013 CeO2 has the resistivity, (14.55$\pm$0.3)$\times$103 ohm in a temperature range from $25^{\circ}C$. to 80$0^{\circ}C$. It is concluded that the ceramics prepared by a dielectric compound and metal oxide semi-conductor has a good thermostability for electrical appliciations.
