  • We carried out these experiments to examine the effects of element substitution of Co and La-Co for Sr-ferrite. The calcined properties of Co and La-Co element substitution were examined, and also the sintered magnetic properties were measured with the stoichiometric condition. The magnetic properties of $(La-Co)_{0.3}-SrM$ composition are as follows; $(M_s)$: 71.08 emu/g, $iH_c$: 4.38 kOe and $B_r$ : 4.18 kG, $iH_ c$ :4.35 kOe, $BH_{max}$: 4.3 MGOe. The $BH_{max}$ value was increased up to 10 % compared with conventional values. Our results imply that the magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite can be improved by the substitution of those elements.

  • The potential candidates for IT-SOFCs cathode materials, $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BSCF) and $La_{0.6}Ba_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (LBCF) powders, were synthesized by a EDTA-citrate combined method from $Sr(NO_3)_2$, $Ba(NO_3)_2$, $La(NO_3)_3{\cdot}6H_2O$, $Co(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$, $Fe(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$, citric acid and $EDTA-NH_3$. The cathode performance of symmetrical electrochemical cells consisting of BSCF-GDC or LBCF-GDC composite electrodes and a GDC electrolyte was investigated using by AC impedance spectroscopy at the temperature range of 500 to $700^{\circ}C$. It was found that a single phase perovskite could be successfully synthesized when the precursor is heated at $850^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Due to thermal expansion mismatch between BSCF and GDC, the composite cathodes with lower GDC content than 45 wt% were peeled off from the GDC electrolyte and their electrode polarization resistance was estimated to be high. The thermal expansion coefficient of BSCF-GDC composites was decreased with increasing the GDC content and the electrode peeling off did not occur in BSCF-45 and 55 wt% GDC composites. BSCF-45 wt% GDC composite electrode showed the lowest area specific resistances (ASR) of 0.15 and $0.04{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ at 600 and $700^{\circ}C$, respectively. On the other hand, LBCF-GDC composite cathodes showed higher ASR than the BSCF-45 and 55 wt% GDC and their cathode performance were decreased with the GDC content.

  • $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.2-x}Zn_xO_{2.8}$(LSGMZ, X=0-0.05) was prepared using a solid state reaction method. Two secondary phases ($LaSrGaO_4$ and $LaSrGa_3O_7$) of powders were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. The relative amount of these secondary phases depended on the calcination conditions (temperature and time) and Zn content. The sintering density of LSGMZ was enhanced by increasing the Zn content and calcination temperature at the low sintering temperatures ($1250-1300^{\circ}C$). The relationship between the sintering density of LSGMZ and the synthesis conditions was discussed considering the phase analysis results.

  • $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$ membranes were fabricated by solid-state reaction. We investigated sintering behavior and oxygen permeation flux as a function of time-on-stream, temperature and upstream oxygen partial pressure. The oxygen was permeated at temperatures form 750$^{\circ}$C to 950$^{\circ}$C by mixed conducting through oxygen vacancy diffusion in the dense membrane. The oxygen permeation flux through the membrane were about 0.1ml/$cm^3{\cdot}$min at 850$^{\circ}$C. A constant time was required for reaching stable oxygen flux, and oxygen partial pressure affected the oxygen permeation fluxes.

  • $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CuO_3$ powder with the perovskite structure was prepared as electrode catalyst using citrate method. Porous electrode was made with as-prepared catalyst, carbon as supporter and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as hydrophobic binder. As results of potentiostatic electrolysis with potential of -1.5~-2.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl in 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 M KOH at 5 and $10^{\circ}C$ on the porous electrode, liquid products were methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol and 1, 2-butanol regardless reaction temperature, while gas products were methane, ethane and ethylene at $5^{\circ}C$, and methane, ethane and propane at $10^{\circ}C$ respectively. Optimal potentials for $CO_2$ reduction in the view of over all faradic efficiency were high values (-2.0 and -2.2 V) for gas products whereas low potential (-1.5 V) for liquid products regardless of concentration and temperature.

  • Conductivity of LSGMC materials were affected by secondary phase segregation, composition and synthetic route. $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.1}Co_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (LSGMC) powders were prepared using the glycine nitrate process to produce high surface area and compositionally homogeneous powders. The powders were synthesized with different 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 of glycine/cation molar ratios. A single perovskite phase from the synthesized powders was characterized with X-ray diffraction patterns. The obtained sintered pellets showed the dense grain microstructure. In case of 1.5 molar ratio, its density was higher than the others. The electrical conductivity measured at $800^{\circ}C$ was observed to be 0.131 $Scm^{-1}$. In addition, the linear thermal expansion behavior was indicated between $25^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$.

  • The $(La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2})_{0.95}MnO_3$/yttria-stabilized zirconia (LSM/YSZ) composites were investigated as anode materials for high temperature steam electrolysis using X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, galvanodynamic and galvanostatic polarization method. For this purpose, the LSMperovskites were fabricated in powders by co-precipitation method and then were mixed with 8 mol% YSZ powders in different molar ratios. The LSM/YSZ composites were deposited on 8 mol% YSZ electrolyte disks by means of a screen printing method, followed by sintering at temperatures above $1,100^{\circ}C$. From the experimental results, it is concluded that the electrochemical properties of LSM and the LSM/YSZ composites are closely related to their microstructure and operating temperatures.

  • We have studied the reduction of NO by CO over perovskite-type oxides prepared by malic and method. The catalysts were modified to enhance the activity by substitution of metal into A or B site of perovskite oxides. In the $LaCoO_3$ type catalyst, the partial substitution of Sr into A site enhanced the catalytic activity on the conversion of NO at less than $350^{\circ}C$. In the $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$ catalyst, the partial substitution of Fe or Mn into B site enhanced the conversion of NO, but excess amount of Fe decreased the conversion of NO. In addition, $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_3$ mixed with $SnO_2$ or $MnO_2$ showed the synergy effect on the reduction of NO. The introduction of water into reactants feed decreased the catalytic activity but the deactivation was shown to be reversible. The introduction of $SO_2$ into reactants feed also decreased the catalytic activity.

  • The perovskites with nominal compositions $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method as cathode materials of low-temperature operating Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). X-ray diffraction analysis and microstructure observation for the sintered samples were performed. The ac complex impedance were measured in the temperature range $600-900^{\circ}C$ in air and fitted with a Solatron ZView program. The electrical conductivity and polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were characterized systematically. The porosities of the sintered samples were in the range of 25% to 38%. The polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{0.7}M_{0.3}O_3$ was $0.291{\Omega}cm^2\;at\;700^{\circ}C$.

  • Various commercially available gas diffusion layers (GDLs) from different manufacturers were used to prepare an air electrode using $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$ perovskite (LSCP) as the catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline solution. Various GDLs have different physical properties, such as porosity, conductivity, hydrophobicity, etc. The ORR and OER of the resulting cathode were electrochemically evaluated in an alkaline solution. The electrochemical properties of the resulting cathodes were slightly different when compared to the physical properties of GDLs. Pore structure and conductivity of GDLs had a prominent effect and their hydrophobicities had a minor effect on the electrochemical performances of cathodes for ORR and OER.
