Optimal conditions for the production of natural color, betacyanin were investigated by varying light intensity, C/N ratio, concentrations of phosphate and kinds of elicitors. Batch cultivation was employed to characterize cell growth and betacyanin production of 32 days. The maximum specific growth rate, ${\mu}$$\sub$max/, was 0.3 (1/day) for batch cultivation. The maximum specific production rate, q$\^$max/$\sub$p/, was enhanced 0.11 (mg/g-cell/day) at 3 klux. A light intensity of 3 klux was shown to the best for both cell growth and betacyanin production. The maximum specific production rate was 0.125 (mg/g-cell/day) at 0.242 (1/day), the maximum specific growth rate. The dependence of specific growth rate on the light lintensity is fit to the photoinhibition model. The correlation between ${\mu}$ and q$\sub$p/ showed that the product formation parameters, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$$\sub$p/ were 0.3756 (mg/cell) and 0.001 (mg/g-cell/day), respectively. The betacyanin production was partially cell growth related process, which is different from the production of a typical product in plant cell cultures. In C/N ratio experiment, high carbon concentration, 42.1 (w/w) improved cell growth rate while lower concentration, 31.6 (w/w) increased the betacyanin production rate. The ${\mu}$$\sub$max/ and q$\^$max/$\sub$p/ were 0.26 (1/day) and 0.075 (mg/g-cell/day), respectively. Beta vulgaris L. cells under 1.25 mM phosphate concentration produced 10.15 mg/L betacyanin with 13.46 (g-dry wt./L) of maximum cell density. The production of betacyanin was elongated by adding 0.1 ${\mu}$M of kinetin. This also increased the cell growth. Optimum culture conditions of light intensity, C/N, phosphate concentration were obtained as 5.5 klux, 27 (w/w), 1.25 mM, respectively by the response surface methodology. The maximum cell density, X$\sub$max/, and maximum production, P$\sub$max/, in optimized conditions were 16 (g-dry wt./L), 12.5 (mg/L) which were higher than 8 (g-dry wt./L), 4.48 (mg/L) in normal conditions. The ${\mu}$$\sub$max/ and q$\^$max/$\sub$p/ were 0.376 (1/day) and 0.134 (mg/g-cell/day) at the optimal condition. The overall results may be useful in scaling up hairy root cell culture system for commercial production of betacyanin.
The effects of various inotropic interventions on the shape of the steady state length tension relation and the length-dependent activation process in cardiac muscle were studied. The influence of inotropic interventions upon the action potential was also observed. The range of varying muscle length was from the optimal length$(l_{max})$, where the active tension production is maximal, to 0.85 $l_{max}$. Changes in stimulus frequency or in external bathing Ca concentration constituted the inotropic interventions in this experiment. The papillary muscles were isolated from the rabbit right ventricles and perfused with $HCO-_3\;-buffered$ normal Tyrode solution which was aerated with $3%\;CO_2-97%\;O_2$ mixed gas and kept at $35^{\circ}C$. Resting Passive tension at $l_{max}$ was approximately 30% of the total tension and appeared from the muscle length of 0.90 $l_{max}$. The effect of stimulus frequency on the steady state level of developed tension was: As the stimulus frequency was increased from 0.1 to 0.5 Hz, there was little change in developed tension. As the frequency was increased further, to a value of about 3 Hz, tension increased steeply. Further increase of the frequency to 5 Hz had little additional effect on the developed tension. The length-tension curves for isometric peak tension became more steeper with the degree of potentiation by inotropic interventions. The relative steepness of the normalized length-tension curves where tension production was expressed as a percentage of maximal tension developed at $l_{max}$, varied inversely with the level of inotropic state and these curves were not superimposable one another. Thus at the stimulus frequency of 2 Hz or at the external Ca concentration of 8 mM, the relative decline in the developed tension for a given change in muscle length was considerably less than the decline observed at the frequency of 0.5 Hz or at the concentration of 2 mM Ca. Action potential duration was prolonged significantly as the frequency increased from 0.2 to 2 Hz, and this change in action potential duration was not observable on the changes in muscle length. There was a tendency of the hyperpolarization of membrane potential when the muscle length was shortened from $l_{max}$ to 0.95 $l_{max}$. These results support the hypothesis that there is a length-dependence of the activation process.
In order to examine the effects of Korean cucurbitaceous plants on sonic hedgehog pathway and growth of cancer cells with over-activated hedgehog pathway, we measured the sonic hedgehog conditioned medium (shh-CM) induced alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and cell viability of pancreatic cancer cell lines by treatment of cucurbitaceous plants. Among the tested cucurbitaceous plants, Actinostemma lobatum Maxim, Cucumis sativus L., Momordica charantia L., Schizopepon bryoniaefolius Maxim and Trichosanthes kirilowii Max, var. japonica Kitam showed the potent inhibitory effects (> 50 % at $20{\mu}g/mL$) on shh-CM induced ALP activity. We also evaluated the cell viability of pancreatic cancer cells treated with the cucurbitaceous plants. The tested cucurbitaceous plants showed the very weak effects on cancer cell proliferation but, T. kirilowii Max, var. japonica Kitam presented the inhibitory effect of 72.7 % on the proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells at $20{\mu}g/mL$. Taken together, we screened the effects of Korean cucurbitaceous plants on shh-CM induced ALP activity and cell viability of pancreatic cancers to search for the modulators of the hedgehog pathway leading to the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. T. kirilowii Max, var. japonica Kitam, among the tested cucurbitaceous plants, showed the inhibitory effects on the shh-CM induced ALP activity and the proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells.

In this paper, a transmission technique of paging indicator (PI) on the existing preamble is proposed to reduce power consumption of the user equipment in idle mode for OFDM-based cellular systems. Compared with the PI transmission technique using the L1/L2 control channel, the PI transmission technique using preamble has advantages of not requiring additional overhead for PI transmission as well as reducing computational complexity for PI detection. Synchronization and PI detection techniques are descried for OFDM-based cellular systems, especially for mobile WiMAX systems. It is shown by computer simulation that the PI can be transmitted using the preamble (or common synch symbol) without affecting performances of synchronization and cell searching in mobile WiMAX systems.
Let p(z)be a polynomial of degree n. Then Bernstein's inequality [12,18] is $${\max\limits_{{\mid}z{\mid}=1}}\;{\mid}p^{\prime}(z){\mid}\;{\leq}\;n\;{\max_{{\mid}z{\mid}=1}{\mid}(z){\mid}}$$. For q > 0, we denote $${\parallel}p{\parallel}_q=\{{\frac{1}{2{\pi}}}{\normalsize\displaystyle\smashmargin{2}{\int\nolimits_{0}}^{2{\pi}}}\;{\mid}p(e^{i{\theta}}){\mid}^qd{\theta}\}^{\frac{1}{q}}$$, and a well-known fact from analysis [17] gives $${{\lim_{q{\rightarrow}{{\infty}}}}\{{\frac{1}{2{\pi}}}{\normalsize\displaystyle\smashmargin{2}{\int\nolimits_{0}}^{2{\pi}}}\;{\mid}p(e^{i{\theta}}){\mid}^qd{\theta}\}^{\frac{1}{q}}={\max\limits_{{\mid}z{\mid}=1}}\;{\mid}p(z){\mid}$$. Above Bernstein's inequality was extended by Zygmund [19] into Lq norm by proving ║p'║q ≤ n║p║q, q ≥ 1. Let p(z) = a0 + ∑n𝜈=𝜇 a𝜈z𝜈, 1 ≤ 𝜇 ≤ n, be a polynomial of degree n having no zero in |z| < k, k ≥ 1. Then for 0 < r ≤ R ≤ k, Aziz and Zargar [4] proved $${\max\limits_{{\mid}z{\mid}=R}}\;{\mid}p^{\prime}(z){\mid}\;{\leq}\;{\frac{nR^{{\mu}-1}(R^{\mu}+k^{\mu})^{{\frac{n}{\mu}}-1}}{(r^{\mu}+k^{\mu})^{\frac{n}{\mu}}}\;{\max\limits_{{\mid}z{\mid}=r}}\;{\mid}p(z){\mid}}$$. In this paper, we obtain the Lq version of the above inequality for q > 0. Further, we extend a result of Aziz and Shah [3] into Lq analogue for q > 0. Our results not only extend some known polynomial inequalities, but also reduce to some interesting results as particular cases.

The methanol extracts of 25 leguminous seeds in vitro were evaluated for inhibitory activities against lens aldose reductase of Sprague Dawley male rats. The responses varied with both leguminous seed and concentration used. At the concentration of 0.1 mg/mL, the methanol extracts from Amphicaraea edgeworthii, Canavalia lineata, Gylcine max var. solitae, Glycine max var. yagkong, Glycine max var. hooktae, Glycine max var. bangkong, Glycine max var. geumdu, Glycine max var. chungtae, Glycine max var. mejukong, Glycine soja, Phaseolus radiatus var. geodu, Vicia tetrasperma, Vigna angulasis, and Vigna sinensis inhibited enzyme activity by greatertha 60%. In following study, at the concentration of 0.01 mg/mL, the extracts of C. lineata and V. tetraspermahad relatively strong inhibitory activity against aldose reductase. Because of their potent inhibitory activities, the activity of each solvent fraction from C. lineata and V. tetrasperma was determined, and the potent activity was showed from chloroform and hexane fractions, respectively. {TEX}$IC_{50}${/TEX} values of C. lineata and V. tetrasperma were 0.004 and 0.006 mg/mL, respectively. As a naturally occurring therapeutic agent, leguminous seeds described could be useful for developing new agents of antidiabetic complications.
Phosphorus desorption study is essential to understanding P behavior in agricultural and environmental soils because phosphorus is considered as two different aspects, a plant nutrient versus an environmental contaminant. This study was conducted to determine soil P buffering power related to P desorption quantity intensity (Q/I) parameters, $Q_{max}$(an index of P release capacity) and $l_0$(an index of the intensity factor), and to investigate the characteristics of relationship between the P desorption Q/I parameters and the soil properties. Soil samples were prepared with treatments of 0 and $100mg\;P\;kg^{-1}$ applied as $KH_2PO_4$ solution. The P desorption Q/I curves were obtained by a procedure using anion exchange resin beads and described by an empirical equation ($Q=aI^{-1}+bln(I+1)+c$). The P desorption Q/I curves for the high available P (${\g}20mg\;kg^{-1}$ of Olsen P) soils were characteristic concave trends with or without soil P enrichment, whereas for the low available P (${\lt}20mg\;kg^{-1}$ of Olsen P) soils, the anticipated Q/I concave curves could not be obtained without a proper amount of P addition. When the soils were enriched in phosphates, the values of desorbed solid phase labile P and solution P, such as $Q_{max}$ and $I_0$ respectively, were increased, but the ratio of $Q_{max}$ versus $I_0$ was decreased. Thus, the slope of desorption Q/I curve represented as phosphorus buffering power, $|BP_0|$, is decreased. The $|BP_0|$ values of the high available P soils ranged between 48 and $61L\;kg^{-1}$ in the P untreated samples and between 18 and $44L\;kg^{-1}$ in the P enriched samples. Overall $|BP_0|$ values of both low and high available P soils treated with $l00mg\;P\;kg^{-1}$ ranged between 14 and $79L\;kg^{-1}$. The $Q_{max}$, values ranged between 71.4 and $173.1mg\;P\;kg^{-1}$, and the lo values ranged between 0.98 and $3.82mg\;P\;L^{-1}$ in the P enriched soils. The $Q_{max}$ and $I_0$ values that control the P buffering power may be not specifically related to a specific soil property, but those values were complicatedly related to soil pH, clay content, soil organic matter content, and lime. Also, phosphorus release activity, however, markedly depended on the desorbability of the applied P as well as the native labile P.
The present study was planned to evaluate the bioequivalence of two commercial formulations of enrofloxacin, which have been marketed as 10% injectable solution after intramuscular administration at a single dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight to 12 clinically healthy goats The study was carried out on the basis of crossover design. The two formulations were: Baytril as a reference product and Spectrama Vet as a test product. The plasma concentrations of enrofloxacin were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detector. The pharmacokinetics of that data was performed using non-compartmental analysis. The maximum plasma concentration ($C_{max}$), time to reach peak concentration ($T_{max}$), area under concentration-time curve (AUC), elimination half-life ($t_{0.5el}$) were 1.14 and $1.05{\mu}g/mL$, 0.79 and 0.83 h, 5.70 and $5.79{\mu}g.h/mL$, 5.19 and 5.39 h for Baytril and Spectrama Vet, respectively. The 90% confidence interval for the mean ratio of $T_{max}$, $C_{max}$ and AUC were 94.72-116.2, 87.88-97.16 and 86.44-118.72%, respectively. These values falls within the European Medicines Agency bioequivalence acceptance range of 80-125% for both $T_{max}$ and AUC and between 75-133% for $C_{max}$. In conclusion, Spectrama-Vet is bioequivalent to Baytril and both products can be used as interchangeable drug in veterinary medicine practice.
Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC), an endogenous component of the L-carnitine family, is a naturally existing molecule synthesized from L-carnitine (LC) by carnitine acetyl transferase. ALC has been shown to improve the cognitive performance of patients suffering from dementia of the Alzheimer's type and proposed for treating Alzheimer's disease in pharmacological doses. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bioefuivalence of two ALC tablets, $Nicetile^{TM} (Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co.) and $L-Cartin^{TM}$ (Kuhn Il Pharmaceutical Co.), according to the guidelines of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). The ALC release from the two ALC tablets in vitro was tested using KP VII Apparatus II method in various dissolution media (pH 1.2, 6.0 and 6.8). Twenty six normal male volunteers, $24.46\pm3.67$ years in age and $64.45\pm5.54$ kg in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized $2\times2$cross-over study was employed. After one tablet containing 500 mg of ALC was orally administered, blood was taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentrations of ALC in serum were determined using HPLC with fluorescence detector. Because of the presence of endogenous ALC, the calibration was performed using dialyzed serum. The dissolution profiles of the two ALC tablets were similar in all the dissolution media. The pharmacokinetic parameters such as $AUC_t,\;C_{max}\;and\;T_{max}$ were calculated and ANOVA was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters. The results showed that the differences in $AUC_t,\;C_{max}\;and\;T_{max}$ between two tablets were $0.35\%,\;0.93\%\;and\;2.34\%$ respectively, when calculated against the $Nicetile^{TM} tablet. The powers $(1-\beta)\;for\;AUC_t$ , and Cmax were $98.72\%\;and\;85.48\%$, respectively. Minimum detectable differences $(\Delta)\;at\;\alpha=0.05\;and\;1-\beta=0.8$ were less than $20\%,\;(e.g.,\;13.21\%\;and\;18.42\%\;for\;AUC_t,\;and\;C_{max}$ respectively). The $90\%$ confidence intervals were within $\pm20\%\;(e.g.,\;-7.38\sim8.09\;and\;-9.86\sim11.72\;for\;AUC_t,\;and\;C_{max}$, respectively). These two parameters met the criteria of KFDA for bioequivalence, indicating that $L-Cartin^{TM}$ tablet is bioequivalent to $Nicetile^{TM} tablet.

In this paper, a monopole type antenna applicable to WLAN and WiMAX standard frequency bands is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna is designed to have rectangular ring and rectangular patch based on microstrip feeding for triple band characteristics and inserted two stub in the top of the rectangular ring patch to enhance impedance bandwidth characteristics. The proposed antenna has $18.0mm(2W_1+W_2){\times}33.0mm(L_7+L_8+L_9)$ on a dielectric substrate of $27.0mm(W_1){\times}44mm(L_1){\times}1.0mm$ size. From the fabrication and measurement results, impedance bandwidths of 660MHz (2,08 to 2.74GHz) for 2.4/2.5MHz band, 488MHz (3.40 to 3.88GHz) for 3.5MHz band, and 2,180MHz (4.61 to 6.79GHz) for 5,000MHz band were obtained based on the impedance bandwidth. The proposed antenna also obtained the measured gain and radiation pattern in the anechoic chamber.
