Insects Diversity by Habitat Types in Middle Inland of DMZ, Korea (DMZ 중부지역의 서식유형에 따른 곤충다양성)

  • This study was intented to understand the insects diversity and forest in DMZ, and provide data and information required to preserve living creatures and geological management, and basic information for the management and preservation policies. This study has surveyed insects diversity by habitat types in Middle Inland of DMZ, Korea from 15 to 19 September, 2009. Totally there were 128 species belonging to 53 families of 10 orders, among them, 7 endermic species, 3 management of exotic species and 25 designated species were showed. The highest was 26 species of Hemiptera(20.31%) and then next turn are 22 species of Coleoptera(17.19%) and 20 species of Hymenoptera(15.63%) respectively. Dominant species are Ceracris nigricornislaeta (Bolivar)(0.152) in S1, Menida violacea Motschulsky(0.218) in S2, Stomorhina obsoleta (Wiedemann)(0.171) in S3, Ducetia japonica (Thunberg)(0.212) in S4, Oedaleus infernalis Saussure(0.178) in S5, Sepedon aenescens Wiedemann(0.268) in S6, Adelphocoris triannulatus (Stal)(0.257) in S7 and Ricania taeniata Stal(0.150) in S8 site. The diversity(H') and richness(RI) of insects at survey area as S2(H'=3.461, RI=9.64), S3(H'=3.457, RI=9.18) and S1(H'=3.447, RI=8.88) were higher than in the others and the lowest in S8(H'=2.790, RI=5.341). But the highest species evenness index(EI) occurred in S8(0.985).

Increase of Downstream Minimum Flow Followed by Increase of Water Storage Size in Yudeungcheon Upstream (유등천 수원확보 규모와 하류 하천유지유량의 상관성)

  • To secure instream flow at the Yudeung urban stream reach of Daejeon city in South Korea, Yudeung upstream diversion was designed with total water storage of $59{\times}10^4m^3$, and the upstream Seongol reservoir was planned to raise the bank with various sizes. Downstream streamflows were simulated by considering outflows from upstream diversion and reservoir, and after then flow durations were analyzed and compared with flows of no reservoir condition. In case of no diversion or reservoir upstream, flow durations were $1^{st}$ flow of $84.72m^3/s$, $95^{th}$ flow of $2.10m^3/s$, $185^{th}$ flow of $0.92m^3/s$, $275^{th}$ flow of $0.42m^3/s$, and $355^{th}$ flow of $0.31m^3/s$. In case of upstream diversion, flow durations were $1^{st}$ flow of $94.38m^3/s$, $95^{th}$ flow of $2.96m^3/s$, $185^{th}$ flow of $1.22m^3/s$, $275^{th}$ flow of $0.50m^3/s$, and $355^{th}$ flow of $0.35m^3/s$. The increase flow rates were $0.04m^3/s$ in $355^{th}$ flow, $0.08m^3/s$ in $275^{th}$, and $0.30m^3/s$ in 185th. In case of Seongol reservoir with effective storage capacities of $365{\times}10^4m^3$, $544{\times}10^4m^3$, $750{\times}10^4m^3$, and $992{\times}10^4m^3$, flow durations were $85.5{\sim}83.9m^3/s$ on $1^{st}$ flow, $2.85{\sim}2.57m^3/s$ on $95^{th}$ flow, $1.16{\sim}1.27m^3/s$ on $185^{th}$ flow, $0.64{\sim}0.99m^3/s$ on $275^{th}$ flow, and $0.56{\sim}0.94m^3/s$ on $355^{th}$ flow. The increase flow rates were $0.25{\sim}0.63m^3/s$ in $355^{th}$ flow, $0.22{\sim}0.57m^3/s$ in $275^{th}$, and $0.24{\sim}0.35m^3/s$ in $185^{th}$. The more the sizes of upstream reservoirs increased, the $1^{st}$ and $95^{th}$ flows decreased in which coefficients of determination were 0.92, 0.99, respectively and the $185^{th}$, $275^{th}$, and $355^{th}$ flows increased in which coefficients of determination were 0.93 to 0.99.

Photo-catalytic Properties of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays Sensitized with In2S3 under Visible-light Irradiation

  • In this work, we report on the preparation of the anodically-grown $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays sensitized with $In_2S_3$ nanoparticles by using the SILAR (successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction) process. We evaluate the photo-catalytic properties of the prepared hetero-structures under visible-light illumination. The results reveal that the $TiO_2/In_2S_3$ system has enhanced photo-catalytic characteristics including higher chopping height. Improved performance of the heterojunction is attributed to the narrower band gap of $In_2S_3$ and its favorable position within the conduction band relative to that of $TiO_2$.

  • The phenomena that excess sulfate hindred the C3S formation in the presence of clinker liquid phase were investigated. In the case of (NH4)2SO4, assuming SO3 atmospheric condition, sulfate stabilized C2S and was enriched at the surface of C2S grains, so C2S was prevented from being dissolved into clinker melt. CaSO4 showed the similar aspect with (NH4)2SO4, however, the prevention of C3S formation by CaSO4 took more influence that C2AS and C4A3 were formed below 100$0^{\circ}C$, and remained upto clinkering temperature, 145$0^{\circ}C$, thus these intermediate phases caught CaO which would participate the C3S formation.

Change of Harmful Micnoorganisms in Pickling Process of Salted Cabbage According to Salting and Washing Conditions (배추김치의 절임공정 조건에 따른 위해미생물 변화)

  • Salted Cabbage products purchased from different companies at 4 different districts in South Korea were detected in this study. Cabbage and salt are the main materials for kimchi manufacture. The results of general bacteria contaminated in the samples were $1.4{\times}10^5$, $6.4{\times}10^5$, $1.7{\times}10^7$, $3.6{\times}10^7$ CFU/g in cabbage and $2.7{\times}10^3$ CFU/g in salt, respectively. The results of coliforms were detected as $2.4{\times}10^4$ CFU/g, and there was no Escherichia coli in any sample. Staphylococcus aureus was detected in cabbage as $9.9{\times}10^2$, $8.0{\times}10^1$, and $3.0{\times}10^3$ CFU/g, Bacillus cereus was also found in cabbage as $4.1{\times}10^3$ and $1.0{\times}10^1$ CFU/g. The results of Campylobacter jejuni and Vibrio paraheamolyticus were $2.4{\times}10^6$ and $1.0{\times}10^4$ CFU/g in cabbage, respectively. $1.0{\times}10^3$ CFU/g for Yersinia enterocolitica was determined in salt. In case of Listeria monocytogenes, the results were $1.5{\times}10^1$, $1.1{\times}10^2$, and $4.5{\times}10^1$ CFU/g in cabbage. Total batcteria ranged from $1.4{\times}10^1$ to $4.4{\times}10^5$ CFU/g were detected in salting solution, from $1.5{\times}10^4$ to $1.2{\times}10^8$ CFU/g in dehydrated salted-cabbage, from $9.4{\times}10^4{\sim}1.3{\times}10^8$ CFU/g in minced salted-cabbage. The results of E. coli in samples from different companies were different from one to anther. The results of the contamination of S. aureus and B. cereus showed positive in salting solution and dehydrated salted-cabbage at a portion of companies. V. paraheamolyticus was detected in salting solution. The contamination of Y. enterocolitica ranged from $9.5{\times}10^2$ to $1.8{\times}10^3$ CFU/g in salting solution, from $1.7{\times}10^1$ to $2.7{\times}10^2$ CFU/g in dehydrated salted-cabbage, from $1.2{\times}10^2$ to $1.3{\times}10^8$ CFU/g in minced salted-cabbage. The contamination of L. monocytogenes ranged from $8.0{\times}10^2$ to $1.7{\times}10^4$ CFU/g in salting solution, from $2.8{\times}10^2$ to $1.2{\times}10^4$ CFU/g in dehydrated salted-cabbage. During the manufacture processing of Kim chi, microorganisms were detected in cabbages salted in different concentrations of salt solution at 8%, 10%, 12% and 15% for 5-20 hours. As the results, $3.5{\times}10^5-1.7{\times}10^6$, $3.4{\times}10^5-2.5{\times}10^6$, $5.4{\times}10^5-2.3{\times}10^6$, $4.0{\times}10^5-2.3{\times}10^6$ CFU/g were detected for E. coli in samples at different treatment conditions. $1.9{\times}10^4-4.1{\times}10^4$, $4.1{\times}10^3-2.8{\times}10^4$, $1.5{\times}10^3-7.8{\times}10^3$, $2.2{\times}10^4-6.6{\times}10^4$ CFU/g were detected for S. aureus in samples at different treatment conditions. Salmonella typhimurium was detected in salted cabbage with various salt concentration after salting for 5 hrs, the result ranged from $2.5{\times}10^5$ to $3.8{\times}10^6$ CFU/g, and change of microorganism was the smallest in salted cabbage under the concentration of salting solution at 10% for 15 hours. The cabbage salted in 10% salting solution for 15 hours were washed with water for 2 and 3 times, with chlorine for 3 times, and with acetic acid for 3 times. E. coli was detected in the samples washed with water for 2 and 3 times, washed with chlorine for 3 times. The contamination of S. aureus was $3.0{\times}10^5$ CFU/g in the samples washed with water for 2 times, $5.6{\times}10^3$ CFU/g in the samples washed with acetic acid for 3 times, $3.6{\times}10^5$ CFU/g in the samples washed with water for 3 times and same amount in the samples washed with chlorine for 3 times. According to the results, the contamination of S. aureus was $5.6{\times}10^3$ CFU/g lower in samples washed with chlorine and acetic acid than that in samples washed with water. In case of S. typhimurium, it has been detected in samples washed with water and chlorine, $3.0{\times}10^1$ CFU/g as the lowest concentration among all the samples was measured in the samples washed with acetic acid for 3 times.

Desirable Particle Size Distribution of Perlite for Tomato Bag Culture (토마토 자루재배 충진용 펄라이트의 적정 입도분포)

  • The physical properties of seven perlites different in particle size distribution were investigated to develop perlite bag culture in Korea. Particle sizes of 1.0-2.8mm and larger than 2.8 mm were rather evenly distributed in S-1 (1.2-5 mm), S-2 (0.15-5 mm) and S-5 (parat No.1). Larger particles were less in S-3 (1-3 mm), S-4 (Parat No.2), S-6 (OTAVI) and S-7 (Agroperl B-3). S-4, S-6 and S-7 contained lots of particles less than 1 mm in size. Total porosity was similar among substrates with the value of $59{\sim}62%$. Container capacity was between 35-40% regardless of substrates except in S-2 with 27.7%. Water content, which was about 60% at 0 kPa, was decreased sharply at 4.90 kPa regardless of substrates, which meant the easily available water was plenty in any kind of perlite tested. Substrates, S-1, S-2 and S-3 with different particle size distribution, were investigated to evaluate for perlite bag culture. Six tomatoes (Licopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Rokkusanmaru) were planted in a perlite bag of 40 liters with the dimension of 120cm in length and 34cm in width. The amount of nutrient solution supplied and its drainage dependent on daily integrated radiation didn't show any regular trend during the growth. Roots in the bag were distributed evenly in S-1 and S-2 than in S-3. Plant grown in S-1 showed the highest total and marketable yield of 8,628 and 7,759 kg/10a, respectively. The number of small size fruits and malformed fruits were more in S-3. Consequently, S-1 with the particle size distribution of 1.2-5 mm is suggested as desirable substrate for perlite bag culture.

Quality Characteristics of Natto Made by Different Ingredients (재료 구성을 달리하여 제조한 Natto 의 품질특성)

  • Natto, Traditional Japanese food fermented by Bacillus Natto, has been well known for a good nutritional food. However it has particular flavor, so most Koreans are not fond of it. That is the reason why, garlic(2%) and ginseng(2%) were added to make Natto, acceptable to Koreans. General soybean Natto($S_1$), 2% garlic Natto($S_2$), 2% ginseng Natto($S_3$) and blacksoybean Natto($S_4$) were prepared. The proximate composition revealed the most moisture content in $S_2$among the all samples. The most crude protein, crude fat and ash were found in $S_4$. The non-fibrous and fiber contents were the most in $S_1$and $S_3$. In the texture characteristics, hardness and gumminess were the highest in $S_4$. The highest springness and cohesiveness were found in $S_1$. Adhesiveness and chewing were the best in $S_2$and $S_3$. The minerals composition revealed the most calcium content in $S_3$among the all samples. Fatty acid compositions were mainly consisted of linoleic acid(46.91~48.47%). In the sensory evaluation, $S_3$showed the best preference, appearance and color. In the aspects of taste and texture, $S_4$was mostly preferred. Flavor and viscosity of $S_2$were the best among the all samples. The general soybean Natto($S_1$) without any addition showed low values in most examinations and tests. In the sensory evaluation, $S_3$has the best overall acceptability among the all experimental Nattos.

  • Sulfurization of rare-earth oxides R203 (R=Nd, Eu) using sulfurizing reagents, such as $H_2S$ and $SC_2$was examined for the sulfide magnetic separation of spent fuel. $EU_2O_3$was found to react with H$_3$S gas forming the mixture of $EU_2O_2S$ and EuS at 500 oC, while EuS was formed by $SC_2$ at 800 oC. In the case of the mixture of $R_2O_3$and $UO_2$, EuS and $ND_3S_4$ were formed as well as $EU_2O_2S$ and $Nd_2O_2S$ at 500oC in $H_2S$, though $UO_2$ remained unreacted.

A Study on the comparison on Adsorption characteristics of Zeolite and DETOX for the removal of H2S (H2S 제거를 위한 Zeolite와 DETOX의 흡착 특성 비교 연구)

  • This study examined the $H_2S$ removal characteristics, such as breakthrough time, adsorption capacity, and adsorption rate of adsorbents between Zeolite 3A and DETOX in terms of the $H_2S$ inflow concentration and adsorption temperature. The adsorption capacity of Zeolite 3A increased with increasing mass flow rate of hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) inflow, but the breakthrough time decreased. On the other hand, both the adsorption capacity and breakthrough time of DETOX decreased with increasing mass flow rate of $H_2S$ inflow. The adsorption capacity and breakthrough time of Zeolite 3A decreased with increasing adsorption temperature but those of DETOX increased. The adsorption capacity of DETOX was higher than that of Zeolite 3A by a factor of 2.5 - 16.4 because the collision frequency that overcomes the activation energy barrier increased with increasing adsorption temperature. For Zeolite 3A and DETOX, the adsorption rate of $H_2S$ increased with increasing mass flow rate of $H_2S$ inflow and adsorption temperature. The adsorption rate of $H_2S$ for Zeolite 3A was 4 times as much as that for DETOX. For the removal of $H_2S$ in biogas, DETOX had an advantage over Zeolite 3A because DETOX had a much longer breakthrough time and greater adsorption capacity in the temperature range of 308~318K than Zeolite 3A.

Climate Change Impacts on Paddy Irrigation Requirement in the Nakdong River Basin (기후변화가 낙동강 권역의 논 관개용수 수요량에 미치는 영향)

  • The impacts of climate change on paddy irrigation requirements for Nakdong river basin in Korea have been analyzed. The HadCM3 model outputs for SRES A2 and B2 scenarios and International Water Management Institute $10'{\times}10'$ pixels observed data were used with kriging method. Maps showing the predicted spatial variations of changes in climate parameters and paddy irrigation requirements have been produced using the GIS. The results showed that the average growing season temperature was projected to increase by $2.2^{\circ}C$ (2050s A2), $0.0^{\circ}C$ (2050s B2), $3.7^{\circ}C$ (2080s A2) and $2.9^{\circ}C$ (2080s B2) from the baseline (1961-1990) value of $21{\circ}C$. The average growing season rainfall was projected to increase by 15.2% (2050s A2), 24.2% (2050s B2), 41.4% (2080s A2) and 16.7% (2080s B2) from the baseline value of 900 mm. Average volumetric irrigation demands were projected to decrease by 3.7% (2050s A2), 7.0% (2050s B2), 10.2% (2080s A2) and 1.4% (2080s B2) from the baseline value of $1.25{\times}10^9\;m^3$. These results can be used for the agricultural water resources development planning in the Nakdong river basin for the future.
