Fabrication and Properties of Bioactive Porous Ceramics for Bone Substitution (뼈 대체용 생체활성 다공질 세라믹스의 제조 및 특성)

  • Porous hydroxyapatite(HA) and HA-coated porous $Al_2O_3$ possessing pore characteristics required for bone substitutes were prepared by a slurry foaming method combined with gelcasting. The HA coating was deposited by heating porous $Al_2O_3$ substrates in an aqueous solution containing $Ca^{2+}$ and ${PO_4}^{3-}$ ions at $65{\sim}95^{\circ}C$ under ambient pressure. The pore characteristic, microstructure, and compressive strength were investigated and compared for the two kinds of samples. The porosity of the samples was about 81% and 80% for HA and $Al_2O_3$, respectively with a highly interconnected network of spherical pores with size ranging from 50 to $250{\mu}m$. The porous $Al_2O_3$ sample showed much higher compressive strength(25 MPa) than the porous HA sample(10 MPa). Fairly dense and uniform HA coating(about $2{\mu}m$ thick) was deposited on the porous $Al_2O_3$ sample. Since the compressive strength of cancellous bone is $2{\sim}12$ MPa, both the porous HA and HA-coated porous $Al_2O_3$ samples could be successfully utilized as scaffolds for bone repair. Especially the latter is expected suitable for load bearing bone substitutes due to its excellent strength.

  • A sol-gel method was applied to coat TiO$_2$ on porous silica prepared using slurry foaming method from silica. from the results of XRD, SEM, and BET, the anatase phase was firstly observed at the coated supports with the heated of 50$0^{\circ}C$. The coated supports with the heated of $700^{\circ}C$ had the maximum anatase peak, and the particle size of coated TiO$_2$ was about 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Bending strength and gas permeability of the porous silica were measured for the feasibility as a catalytic supports. In case of the uncoated porous materials with the strength of 2.4 MPa, the strength increased to 3.9∼4.3 MPa after the coating process regardless of the heating temperature. On the other hand, the permeability of the uncoated porous materials decreased from 770${\times}$10$^{-13}$ $m^2$ to 363${\times}$10$^{-13}$ $m^2$ after the coating process, and it decreased with the increasing heating temperature.

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using $\textrm{TiO}_2$ have been investigated. $\textrm{TiO}_2$ is known to be an excellent photocatalyst for the degradation of organic and inorganic contaminants in water. $\textrm{TiO}_2$ catalyst have been supported on the glass fiber by a dip-coating procedure. The resulting materials have been characterized by XRD and SEM. The immobilized catalysts were tested in the photocatalytic degradation of $\textrm{NH}_3$, $\textrm{CH}_3\textrm{SH}$ and $\textrm{CH}_3\textrm{CHO}$. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodorizing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The efficient deodorant activity results have been achieved through the increase of $\textrm{TiO}_2$ sol concentration.

  • Anti-Reflection and High-reflection coating on the facet of semiconductor laser diode. To prevent internal feedback from both facets for realizing super luminescent diode and reducing the reflection-induced intensity noise of laser diode. Anti-Reflection coating Film was designed by Macleod Simulator. Coating Materials were decided $Ti_3O_5$ and $SiO_2$. Thickness of Coating layer $Ti_3O_5/SiO_2$ were 105[nm], 165[nm]. In the study Anti-Reflection coating Film was design for Laser diode and deposited by Ion-Assisted Deposition system. Then manufactured thin film measured electrical properties(L-I-V, Se, Resistor) and Optical properties(wavelength FFP). Slop-efficiency and FFP characteristic is 0.302[W/A], $22.3^{\circ}$(Horizontal), $24.4^{\circ}$(Vertical).

The Effect of Mercaptoundecanoic Acid (MUA) Coating on Dispersion Property of Au Nanoparticles in Synthesis of Au/TiO2 Core-shell Nanoparticles (Au/TiO2 core-shell 나노입자의 합성에 있어서 Au 나노입자의 분산특성에 미치는 Mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA)의 피복 효과)

  • Mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) has been used to enhance the dispersity of Au nanoparticles in organic solvent and the affinity between the Au nanoparticles surface and titanium dioxide shell in the synthesis of $Au/TiO_2$ core-shell composite nanoparticles. The dispersity of the MUA-coated Au nanoparticles in ethanol aqueous solution with different concentration of $H_2O$ was investigated by UV-Vis. absorption spectrum and the coating amount of MUA was varied from 0.02 mM to 1.0 mM. The MUA-coated Au nanoparticles were highly dispersed in pure $H_2O$ in the wide range of the coating amount of MUA. On the contrary, the MUAcoated Au nanoparticles showed an enhanced stability in the ethanol/$H_2O$=8/2 mixed solution only when the coating amount of MUA was 0.05 mM, and in the ethanol/$H_2O$=7/3 mixed solution when the coating amount of MUA was in the range from 0.02 mM to 0.17 mM. From this systematic study, it can be inferred that the stability and the dispersibility of Au nanoparticles in organic solvents are highly sensitive towards the amount of MUA coating.

Synthesis and Characterization of SnO2-CoO/carbon-coated CoO Core/shell Nanowire Composites (SnO2-CoO/carbon-coated CoO core/shell 나노선 복합체의 합성 및 구조분석)

  • $SnO_2-CoO$/carbon-coated CoO core/shell nanowire composites were synthesized by using electrospinning and hydrothermal methods. In order to obtain $SnO_2-CoO$/carbon-coated CoO core/shell nanowire composites, $SnO_2-Co_3O_4$ nanowire composites and $SnO_2-Co_3O_4$/polygonal $Co_3O_4$ core/shell nanowire composites are also synthesized. To demonstrate their structural, chemical bonding, and morphological properties, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were carried out. These results indicated that the morphologies and structures of the samples were changed from $SnO_2-Co_3O_4$ nanowires having cylindrical structures to $SnO_2-Co_3O_4/Co_3O_4$ core/shell nanowires having polygonal structures after a hydrothermal process. At last, $SnO_2-CoO$/carbon-coated CoO core/shell nanowire composites having irregular and high surface area are formed after carbon coating using a polypyrrole (PPy). Also, there occur phases transformation of cobalt phases from $Co_3O_4$ to CoO during carbon coating using a PPy under a argon atmosphere.

Chacterization and Preparation of SiO2-TiO2-AgO thin Films by the Chemical Solution Process (용액법에 의한 SiO2-TiO2-AgO계 박막의 제조 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Coating films of $SiO_2-TiO_2-AgO$ have been prepared on soda-lime-silica slide glasses and single crystal silicon wafer by the sol-gel method using a spin-coating technique. Commercially available tetraethyl orthosilicate, titanium trichloride, and silver-nitrates were used as starting materials. The heat treatment temperature of this coating films was $500^{\circ}C$ properly, obtained from TG-DTA result. The films with thickness of 310 nm were prepared by 5 times coating. In the case of l0 mol% AgO, the film showed a crack-free and smooth surface, but the higher Ago content exhibited the more pin hole and the segregated cluster of AgO. The IR absorbance of the films decreased in the range of 400 nm to 700 nm with the increase of annealing temperature. And the reflectance of the coating films decreased and the color was changed light yellow to white yellow with the increase of Ago content.

The Effect of Anodizing on the Electrical Properties of ZrO2 Coated Al Foil for High Voltage Capacitor

  • $ZrO_2$ and Al-Zr composite oxide film was prepared by vacuum assisted sol-gel dip coating method and anodizing. $ZrO_2$ films annealed above $400^{\circ}C$ have tetragonal structure. $ZrO_2$ layers inside etch pits were successfully coated from the $ZrO_2$ sol. The double layer structures of samples were obtained after being anodized at 100 V to 600 V. From the TEM images, it was found that the outer layer was $Al_2O_3$, the inner layer was multi-layer of $ZrO_2$, Al-Zr composite oxide and Al hydrate. The capacitance of $ZrO_2$ coated foil exhibited about 28.3% higher than that of non-coating foil after being anodized at 100 V. The high capacitance of $ZrO_2$ coated foils anodized at 100 V can be attributed to the relatively high percentage of inner layer in total thickness. The electrical properties, such as withstanding voltage and leakage current of coated and non-coated Al foils showed similar values. From the results, $ZrO_2$ and Al-Zr composite oxide is promising to be used as the partial dielectric of high voltage capacitor to increase the capacitance.

  • A crack-free ceramic composite membrane with micropores has been synthesized by the pressurized sol-gel coating technique using the mixed Al2O3-SiO2 sols. The mixed sols were prepared by mixing nanoparticulate SiO2 and boehmite sols. These sols were more stable at lower pH, but very unstable when their copositions were in the range of 50~75mol% of SiO2 at the same pH. The mixed Al2O3-SiO2 membrane prepared from the mixed sol (0.2mol/$\ell$ of solid content and pH=2) containing 40mol% of SiO2 had the mean pore radius of 0.80nm and the specific surface area of 280$m^2$/g. The nitrogen permeability through the coated Al2O3-SiO2 layer was 42$\times$107mol/$m^2$.s.Pa. It was found that the thermal stability of aluminosilicate membranes, even through similar to that of SiO2 membranes, was much improved in comparison with ${\gamma}$-alumina membranes.

Dependence of Surface Morphology of Transparent Hydrophobic Anti-Reflective Coating (투명 발수 반사방지 코팅의 표면 형상 의존성)

  • The cover glass of mobile displays and photovoltaic cells needs a functional coating, such as an anti-reflection and self-cleaning coating. Numerous studies have been conducted on the engineering application of biomimetic functional surfaces, such as moth eye and lotus leaf Anti-reflection coantings of silica nanoparticles could enhance the light transmittance. $TiO_2$ photocatalyst coatings have been applied to self-cleaning functional films. In this study, transparent hydrophobic anti-reflective coatings consisting of thin layers of $SiO_2/TiO_2$ nanoparticles were fabricated on a slide glass substrate by the sol-gel process and dip-coating process. The dependence of the surface morphology of the functional coatings was investigated by the atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle measurement, and UV-visible spectroscopy. It was found that the coating of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles exhibited a high average transmittance comparable to that of the bare slide glass substrate in the visible light range. The bi-layered functional coating of 7 nm $SiO_2$/7nm $TiO_2$ nanoparticles exhibits a transparent hydrophobic surface with a contact angle of $110^{\circ}$ and an improvement of the average transmittance of 2.3% compared to the bare slide glass substrate in the visible light range.
