A Study on the MOCVD $PbTiO_3$ Thin Films (MOCVD $PbTiO_3$ 박막의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • $PbTi0_3$ thin films were deposited at $550^{\circ}C$ by MOCVD method using titanium-iso-propoxide [$Ti(OC_3H_7)_4$] and tetra-ethyl-lead $[Pb(C_2H_5)_4]$as starting materials. In the present study, Ar and $O_2$were used as a carrier gas and a reaction gas, respectively, and the change of thickness and refractive index, Xray diffraction analysis, and CV characteristic measurements of the films were systematically investigated. As a result of CV characteristic analysis of the annealed $PbTiO_3$ thin films, it is assumed that the films interact with Si substrate at the interface, and X-ray diffraction patterns of the films show characteristic peaks for $PbTiO_3$ With increasing the annealing temperature and time, the thickness of the films tends to decrease but their refractive index increases.

Stable isotope, Fluid Inclusion and Mineralogical Studies of the Samkwang Gold-Silver Deposits, Republic of Korea (삼광 금-은광상의 산출광물, 유체포유물 및 안정동위원소 연구)

  • The Samkwang gold-silver deposits consist of gold-silver-bearing hydrothermal massive quartz veins which filled the fractures along fault shear (NE, NW) zones within Precambrian banded or granitic gneiss of Gyeonggi massif. Ore mineralization of this deposits occurred within a single stage of quartz vein which was formed by multiple episodes of fracturing and healing. Based on vein mineralogy and paragenesis, massive quartz veins are divided into two main paragenetic stages which are separated by a major faulting event. Main ore mineralization occurred at stage I. Wall-rock alteration from this deposits occur as mainly sericitization, chloritization, silicification and minor amounts of pyritization, carbonitization, propylitization and argillitization. Ore minerals are composed mainly of arsenopyrite (29.21-32.24 As atomic %), pyrite, sphalerite (6.45-13.82 FeS mole %), chalcopyrite, galena with minor amounts of pyrrhotite, marcasite, electmm (39.98-66.82 Au atomic %) and argentite. Systematic studies of fluid inclusions in early quartz veins and microcracks indicate two contrasting physical-chemical conditions: 1). temperature (215-345$^{\circ}$C) and pressure (1296-2022 bar) event with $H_{2}O-CO_{2}-CH_{4}-NaCl$fluids (0.8-6.3 wt. %) related to the early sulfide deposition, 2). temperature (203-441$^{\circ}$C) and pressure (320 bar) event with $H2_{O}$-NaCI $\pm$ $CO_{2}$ fluids (5.7-8.8 wt. %) related to the late sulfide and electrum assemblage. The H20-NaCI $\pm$ $CO_{2}$ fluids represent fluids evolved through fluid unmixing of an $H_{2}O-CO_{2}-CH_{4}-NaCl$fluids due to decreases in fluid pressure and influenced of deepcirculated meteoric waters possibly related to uplift and unloading of the mineralizing suites. Calculated sulfur isotope compositions (${\delta}^{34}S_{fluid}$) of hydrothermal fluids (1.8-4.9$\textperthousand$) indicate that ore sulfur was derived from an igneous source. Measured and calculated oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions (${\delta}^{18}O_{I120}$, ${\delta}D$) of ore fluids (-5.9~10.9$\textperthousand$, -102~-87$\textperthousand$) indicate that mesothermal auriferous fluids at Samkwang gold-silver deposits were likely mixtures of $H_{2}O$-rich, isotopically less evolved meteoric water and magmatic fluids.

Process Suggestion and HAZOP Analysis for CQ4 and Q2O in Nuclear Fusion Exhaust Gas (핵융합 배가스 중 CQ4와 Q2O 처리공정 제안 및 HAZOP 분석)

  • This study deals with a process for the recovery of hydrogen isotopes from methane ($CQ_4$) and water ($Q_2O$) containing tritium in the nuclear fusion exhaust gas (Q is Hydrogen, Deuterium, Tritium). Steam Methane Reforming and Water Gas Shift reactions are used to convert $CQ_4$ and $Q_2O$ to $Q_2$ and the produced $Q_2$ is recovered by the subsequent Pd membrane. In this study, one circulation loop consisting of catalytic reactor, Pd membrane, and circulation pump was applied to recover H components from $CH_4$ and $H_2O$, one of $CQ_4$ and $Q_2O$. The conversion of $CH_4$ and $H_2O$ was measured by varying the catalytic reaction temperature and the circulating flow rate. $CH_4$ conversion was 99% or more at the catalytic reaction temperature of $650^{\circ}C$ and the circulating flow rate of 2.0 L/min. $H_2O$ conversion was 96% or more at the catalytic reaction temperature of $375^{\circ}C$ and the circulating flow rate of 1.8 L/min. In addition, the amount of $CQ_4$ generated by Korean Demonstration Fusion Power Plant (K-DEMO) in the future was predicted. Then, the treatment process for the $CQ_4$ was proposed and HAZOP (hazard and operability) analysis was conducted to identify the risk factors and operation problems of the process.

Convenient Assay of O2- Generated on Potato Tuber Tissue Slices Treated with Fungal Elicitor by Electron Spin Resonance - No Secondary Oxidative Burst Induction by H2O2 Treatment

  • Since the discovery of generation of $O_2^-$ in plant, many evidence for the oxidative burst (OXB) has been accumulated in various combinations of plant and pathogen or elicitor systems. $O_2^-$ generating system responsible for the OXB was coupled with oxidation of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) in microsomal fraction isolated from sliced aged potato tuber slices which were treated by hyphal wall components elicitor from Phytophthora infestans (HWC). We developed new assay method for quantitative measurement of oxygen radical $O_2^-$ by using electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis during elicitor­induced OXB on the surface of plant tissues. The ESR analysis using an $O_2^-$ trapper, Tiron (1,2-dihydroxy-3,5­benzenedisulfonic acid), provided a convenient assay for detecting only $O_2^-$ during elicitor-induced OXB producing various active oxygen species (AOS) on plant tissue surface. Tiron was oxidized to Tiron semiquinon radical by $O_2^-$. Quantity of the radical signal was measured by specific spectra on ESR spectroscopy. The level of $O_2^-$ was high in from surface of potato tuber tissue treated with hyphal cell wall elicitor (HWC) from Phytophthora infestans. There was no secondary OXB induction by $H_2O_2$ treatment in plant.

Effect of $Al_2O_3/Fe$ Ratio on Characteristics of Carbon Nanotubes Prepared by Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • The effect of compositions of $Al_2O_3$ in the mixed $Fe/Al_2O_3$ catalysts on the synthetic behaviors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) process was investigated in wide range of the mixture ratios of support materials. CNTs were synthesized with $Fe/Al_2O_3$ catalysis under the condition of 40 min in synthetic time, and 923 K of synthetic temperature using $C_2H_4$ and $H_2$ as synthetic and carrier gas, respectively. The carbon yield with the content of $Al_2O_3$ showed in a parabolic curve and the maximum carbon yield was 40 wt.% of $Al_2O_3$. As the mixture ratio of $Al_2O_3$ increased, decreasing tendency was observed in the diameter of CNTs. Specific surface areas of CNTs were increased with the increase of the mixture ratio of $Al_2O_3$.

Detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 Using Immunosensor Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance

  • An immunosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with a self-assembled protein G layer was developed for the detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7. A self-assembled protein C layer on a gold (Au) surface was fabricated by adsorbing the mixture of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) and hexanethiol at various molar ratios and by activating chemical binding between free amine (-$NH_2$) of protein G and 11-(MUA) using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDAC) in series. The formation of a self-assembled protein G layer on an Au substrate and the binding of the antibody and antigen in series were confirmed by SPR spectroscopy. The surface morphology analyses of the self-assembled protein G layer on the Au substrate, monoclonal antibody (Mab) against E. coli O157:H7 which was immobilized on protein G, and bound E. coli O157:H7 extracts on Immobilized Mab against E. coii O157:H7 were performed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The detection limit of the SPR-based immunosensor for E. coli O157:H7 was found to be about $10^4$ cells/ml.

High Temperature Corrosion Characteristics of Al-Si-Mg Alloy in O2 and H2S/H2 Environments (Al-Si-Mg 합금의 산소 및 황화수소 환경에서의 고온부식 특성)

  • The corrosion characteristics of Al-Si-Mg alloy were investigated in $O_2$ and $H_2S/H_2$ environments at high temperature. The weight gain and the reaction rate constant of the Al-Si-Mg alloy were measured in the oxygen and hydrogen sulfide environments at 773K. The weight gain of Al-Si-Mg alloy was showed parabolic increase in the oxygen and hydrogen sulfide environments. The reaction rate constants were confirmed to be $1.45{\times}10^{-4}mg^2cm^{-4}sec^{-2}$ in the oxygen environment and $6.19{\times}10^{-4}mg^2cm^{-4}sec^{-2}$ in the hydrogen sulfide environment respectively. As a result of XPS analysis on the specimen surface, $Al_2O_3$ and MgO compounds were detected in oxygen environment and $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ sulfate was detected in the hydrogen sulfide environment. Corrosion rate of Al-Si-Mg alloy was about 4.3 times faster in hydrogen sulfide environment than oxygen environment.

Calculation of the Absorption Coefficient and Weighting Factor Expressing the Total Emissivity of Flame (화염의 총괄폭사 계수를 나타내는 급수계수 및 가중치의 계산)

  • Using the sbsorption coefficients and the weighting factors of the gray gas, the total emissivities of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures can be expressed by the following equation, [a numerical formula] Where, $a_{i}$ and $K_{i}$ represent the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of i-gray gas respectively; L is the pathlength of the gas. This equation is widely used for the analyses of the radiation heat transfer in the combustors of internal combustion engines and in the furnace of external combustion engines. In this work, a simple calculation model of the weighting factor and the absorption coeffient of the above equation was developed. The weighting factors and the absorption coefficients of combustion products were calculated by applying the model to various kinds of fossil fuels such as coal and heavy oil. Then, the computed total emissivities for each fuel and pathlength were compared with measured and calculated values which have been already published in the literatures. The followings were the results obtained through the comparisons between the calculated emissivites and the published values; the developed model for the calculations of the weighting factor and the absorption coefficient of C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O and C $O_{2}$- $H_{2}$O- transient species-soot gas mixtures could be applied over the wide ranges of the temperature and the pathlength; the errors between the total emissivities calculted and the values published were maximum 10%, and average 1%, respectively.

  • In this work, we prepared porous WO3 nanofibers (NFs) functionalized by bio-inspired catalytic $Cr_2O_3$ and $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles as highly sensitive and selective $H_2S$ gas sensing layers. Highly porous 3-dimensional (3D) NFs networks decorated by well-dispersed catalyst NPs exhibited superior $H_2S$ gas response ($R_{air}/R_{gas}$ = 46 at 5 ppm) in high humidity environment (95 %RH). In particular, the sensors showed outstanding $H_2S$ selectivity against other interfering analytes (such as acetone, toluene, CO, $H_2$, ethanol). Exhaled breath sensors using $Cr_2O_3$ and $Co_3O_4$ catalysts-loaded $WO_3$ NFs are highly promising for the accurate detection of halitosis.

Effect of MgSO4/MgO on the Synthesis of 5Mg(OH)2·MgSO4·3H2O Whiskers using One-step Ambient Pressure (상압 공정을 이용한 침상형 5Mg(OH)2·MgSO4·3H2O 합성에 대한 MgSO4/MgO 효과)

  • Magnesium hydroxide sulfate hydrate ($5Mg(OH)_2.MgSO_4{\cdot}3H_2O$, abbreviated 513 MHSH) whiskers were synthesized using MgO and $MgSO_4.7H_2O$ as reactants without addition of basic solution. Previously, MHSH whiskers were prepared by hydrothermal method using $MgSO_4$ in aqueous ammonia. In this work, for the first time, we synthesized a high purity MHSH via ambient pressure. In addition, a high molar ratio of $MgSO_4$ : MgO is an important key to the formation of high purity MHSH. Also, it was possible to prepare whiskers with high aspect ratio using an increasing reaction time in the reaction between the remaining $SO_4^{2-}$ ions and the ${Mg(OH)_6}^{4-}$ fragment, finally producing one-dimensional whiskers.
