The hydration mechanism of the $3CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3-CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ system in the presence of alkali sulfates has been investigated. The early hydration rate of $3CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3$ was accelerated by the addition of $Na_2SO_4$ and $K_2SO_4$. This is closely related to the formation of syngenite $(CaSO_4{\cdot}K_2SO_4{\cdot}H_2O)$, and the U-phase added $K_2SO_4$ and $Na_SO_4$ in the $3CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3-CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ system, respectively. The formation of the rigid syngenite and U-phase structure led to rapid setting and decreases the sulfate content in the liquid phase of the hydrating cement to the extent that it cannot adequately retard the hydration of $3CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3$. In case of the alkali sulfate not added to the $3CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3-CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ system, the ettringite was transformed to monosulfoaluminate immediately after the consumption of gypsum. However, when the alkali sulfates were added to this system, the ettringite did not transform to monosulfoaluminate immediately even though the gypsum was completely consumed. There was a stagnation period to transform to the monosufoaluminate after the consumption of gypsum because the syngenite and U-phase remained as the sulfate source.
Metal free phthalocyanine($H_2Pc$) partially doped with iodine, $H_2Pc(I)x$, has been made to improve photosensitizing efficiency of ZnO/$H_2Pc$. The content of iodine dopant level(x) for $H_2Pc(I)x$ upon $H_2Pc$ polymorphs was characterized as ${\chi}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.92}$ and ${\beta}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.96}$ by elemental analysis. Characterization of iodine-oxidized $H_2Pc$ were investigated by TGA (thermogravimetric analysis), UV-Vis, FT-IR, Raman and ESR (electron spin resonance) spectrum, and the adsorption properties of $H_2Pc(I)x$ on ZnO were characterized by means of Raman and ESR studies. TGA for $H_2Pc(I)x$ showed a complete loss of iodine at approximately 265$^{\circ}C$ and the Raman spectrum of $H_2Pc(I)x$ and ZnO/$H_2Pc(I)x$ at 514.5 nm showed characteristic $I_3^-$ patterns in the frequency region 90∼550 $cm^{-1}$. ZnO/$H_2Pc(I)x$ exhibited a very intense and narrow ESR signal at $g=2.0025{\pm}0.0005$ compared to $H_2Pc$/ZnO. Iodine doped ZnO/$H_2Pc(I)x$ showed a better photosensitivity compared to iodine undoped ZnO/$H_2Pc$. That is, the surface photovoltage of ${\chi}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.92}$/ZnO was approximately 31 times greater than that of ZnO/${\chi}-H_2Pc$ and ZnO/${\beta}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.96}$ was 5 times more efficient than ZnO/${\beta}-H_2Pc$ at 670 nm. And the dependence of photosensitizing effect upon $H_2Pc$ polymorphs was exhibited that the surface photovoltage of ZnO/${\chi}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.92}$ was approximately 5 times greater than ZnO/${\beta}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.96}$ at 670 nm. Therefore Iodine doping of H_2Pc$ resulted in increase in photoconductivity of $H_2Pc$ and photovoltaic effect of ZnO/$H_2Pc$ in the visible region.
Ultrafine NiO/YSZ (Yttria Stabilized Zirconia) powders were made by using a glycine nitrate process which is used as anode material for solid oxide fuel cells. The specific surface areas of synthesized NiO/YSZ powders were examined with controlling pH of a precursor solution and the content of glycine. The binding of glycine with metal nitrates occurring in the precursor solution was analyzed by using FTIR. The characteristics of synthesized powders were examined with X-ray diffraction(XRD) Brunauer Emmett Teller with N2 absorption. scanning electron microscopy (SEM). and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Ultrafine NiO/YSZ powders of 15-18 m2/g were obtained through GNP when the content of glycine was controlled to 1 or 2 times the stoichiometric ratio in the precursor solutions. Strongly acid precursor solution increased the specific surface area of the synthesized powders. This is suggested to be the increased binding of metal nitrates and glycine under a strong acid solution of pH=0.5 that lets glycine consist of mainly the amine group of {{{{ { NH}`_{3 } ^{+ } }}. After sintering and reducing treatment of NiO/YSZ powders synthesized by GNP the Ni/YSZ pellet showed ideal microstructure where very fine Ni particles of 3-5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were distributed uniformly and fine pore around Ni metal particles was formed. leading to anincrease of the triple phase boundary among gas Ni and YSZ.
Glass in the ZrO2-SiO2 system containing up to 30mol% ZrO2 were prepared by heating the gel made from the mixed solutions of Zr(OC3H7)4 and partial hydrolysed Si(OC2H5)4. As a result, the monolith gel was made from the HCl and water content as 2.7$\times$10-3 and 8 molar ratio to alkoxide and drying temoperature as 4$0^{\circ}C$. Heating rate of dry gel maintained under 0.5$^{\circ}C$/min and heating at a temperature as 90$0^{\circ}C$ was found to be for making the transparent glass.

The electrical properties of varistors consisting of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-Er oxides were investigated in the Er$_2$O$_3$content range of 0.0 to 2.0 mol%. the varistors without Er$_2$O$_3$ exhibited a relatively low nonlinearity, which was 14.24 in the nonlinear exponent and 21.47 $\mu$A in the leakage current. However, the varistors with Er$_2$O$_3$ sintered at 1335$^{\circ}C$ for 1h exhibited very high nonlinear exponent of 70, in particular, reaching a maximum value of 78.05 in 2.0 mol% Er$_2$O$_3$, and those sintered at 1335$^{\circ}C$ for 2h exhibited the nonlinear exponent close to 50, in particular, reaching a maximum value of52.76 in 0.5 mol% Er$_2$O$_3$. The others except for 0.5 mol% Er$_2$O$_3$-added varistors exhibited very high instability resulting in a thermal runaway within a short time, even a weak DC stress. Increasing soaking time decreased the nonlinearity, but increased the stability. The varistors containing 0.5mol% Er$_2$O$_3$ sintered for 2h exhibited excellent stability, in which the variation rate of the varistor voltage and nonlinear exponent was -1.70% and -7.15%, respectively, under more severe DC stress such as (0.80 V$_{1mA}$/9$0^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.85 V$_{1mA}$/115$^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.90 V$_{1mA}$/12$0^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.95 V$_{1mA}$/1$25^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.95 V$_{1mA}$/15$0^{\circ}C$/12h).TEX>/12h).
$2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ powder, which is not synthesized by solid reaction method, was successfully synthesized through PVA solution method. In this process, the firing temperature and the PVA content strongly affected the crystallization behavior and final particle size. A stable ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ was synthesized at a firing temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ and holding time of 4 h. ${\beta}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ was observed, with un-reacted $ZrO_2$ phases, for firing temperatures lower than $1200^{\circ}C$. In terms of the PVA content effect, the powder prepared with a PVA mixing ratio of 12:1 showed stable ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$; however, the ${\beta}$-phase was found to co-exist at relatively higher PVA content. The synthesized ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ powder showed an average particle size of 100~250 nm and an average thermal expansion coefficient of $-2.5{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the range of room temp. ${\sim}800^{\circ}C$.
This study was undertaken to determine whether Salviae-radix (SVR) extraction prevents the oxidant-induced cell injury and thereby exerts protective effect against oxidant-induced inhibition of tetraethylammonium uptake (TEA) in renal corticaJ sices. SVR (5%) attenuated $H_2O_2-induced$ inhibition of TEA uptake. $H_2O_2$ increased LDH release and lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent manner. These changes were prevented by SVR extraction. The protective effect of SVR on LDH release was dose-dependent over the concentration range of 0.1-0.5%, and that on lipid peroxidation over the concentration ranges of 0.05-2%. SVR significantly prevented Hg-induced lipid peroxidation. SVR extraction (0.5%) increased cellular GSH content in normal and $H_2O_2-treated$ tissues. When slices were treated with 100 mM $H_2O_2$, catalase activity was decreased, which was prevented by 0.5% SVR extraction. The activity of glutathione peroxidase but not superoxide dismutase was significantly increased by 0.5% SVR extraction in $H_2O_2-treated$ tissuces. These results suggest that SVR has an antioxidant action and thereby exerts benefical effect against oxidant-induced impairment of membrane transport function. This effect of SVR is attributed to an increase in endogenous antioxidants such as GSH, catalase and glutathione peroxidase.
In this study, the precipitation reaction of vanadium and ammonium chloride in aqueous solution was investigated in order to recover vanadium. Ammonium metavanadate having a crystal structure of [$NH_4VO_3$] was precipitated from aqueous solution containing vanadium at pH 9.2 ~ 9.4, and ammonium polyvanadate having a crystal structure of [$(NH_4)_2V_6O_{16}$] was precipitated when the pH of the aqueous solution containing vanadium was adjusted with sulfuric acid. Ammonium polyvanadate [$(NH_4)_2V_6O_{16}$] precipitated at a temperature of $80{\sim}90^{\circ}C$ and pH 2, and at a temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ and pH 6 ~ 8 of aqueous solution. In the acidic region of aqueous solution pH 2, the vanadium content of the aqueous solution should be at least 3,000 mg/L and the precipitation temperature should be maintained at $80^{\circ}C$ or higher in order to obtain a precipitation ratio of 99% or more. When the ammonium vanadate was precipitated in the alkaline region, the vanadium content was more than 10,000 mg/L and the precipitation temperature was maintained at $40^{\circ}C$ to increase the precipitation ratio. Aluminum was not precipitated regardless of the vanadium content and pH of the aqueous solution. However, the iron component reacts with ammonium chloride to precipitate into ammonium jarosite. Therefore, Fe component must be preferentially removed in order to increase the recovery of vanadium.

Oleuropein content of olive leaf extracts (OLE; ethanol extract) was evaluated by high performance liquid chromatography analysis. Oleuropein contents were $4.21{\pm}0.57$, $3.92{\pm}0.43$, $0.32{\pm}0.03$, $5.76{\pm}0.32$, and $32.47{\pm}0.25$ mg/100 g for ethanol extract, and hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and butanol fraction, respectively. The removal of DPPH free radical increased in OLE and all 5 fractions of OLE in a concentration dependent manner. In order to investigate the antioxidant effect of OLE in vitro, 80%(v/v) ethanol OLE, $H_2O_2$, or combined treatment of 80%(v/v) ethanol OLE and $H_2O_2$ were applied on mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) cells. Cells were damaged by oxidative stress decreased their viability followed by increasing concentration of $H_2O_2$, but co-treatment of OLE and $H_2O_2$ showed an increase in cell growth about 20% compare to the cells treated with $H_2O_2$. OLE suppresses cytotoxicity induced by $H_2O_2$ in dose dependent manner. OLE treatment on MEF cells was also examined by analyzing cell cycle and apoptotic rate using flow cytometry. Apoptotic and necrotic cell accumulation was decreased in addition of OLE to $H_2O_2$ compare to the oxidative damaged cells. Taken together, these results demonstrated that OLE suppresses cytotoxicity induced by $H_2O_2$ and protect cells against oxidative stress on MEF cells.
$Sr_{l}$$\pm$x/$Bi_{2}$$\pm$y/$Ta_2$$O_{9}$ and $Sr_{l}$$\pm$$Bi_{x}$$2\pm$y$Nb_2$$O_{9}$ ceramics were prepared by a solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that single-phase of Bi-layered perovskite was obtained. According to Sr/Bi content ratio, Curie temperature( $T_{c}$), electromechanical factor($K_{p}$ ) and mechanical quality factor($Q_{m}$ ) were measured. The Curie temperature of SBN(SBT) rose from $414^{\circ}C$(314$^{\circ}C$) to $494^{\circ}C$(426$^{\circ}C$) when Sr/Bi content ratio was increased. In the case of Sr/Bi content ratio = 0.55/2.3, the maximum value of the mechanical quality factor $Q_{m}$ of SBT and SBN were obtained 3320 and 1010, respectively.
