Blend Films of Poly(acrylic acid-co-maleic acid) with Poly(vinyl alcohol) (I) : Thermo-mechanical Properties and Gas Permeability (폴리(비닐 알코올)과 폴리(아크릴산-말레산) 공중합체의 블렌드 필름 (I) : 열적-기계적 성질 및 가스 투과도)

  • Blends of poly (acrylic acid-co-maleic acid)(PAM) with poly (vinyl alcohol)(PVA) were obtained by solution blending. The blends were solvent-on to a film to examine thermo-mechanical properties and gas permeability. The transition temperatures $(T_g\;and\;T_m)$ of the blends remained constant regardless of PAM contents. However, the values of enthalpy changes corresponding to melting transition $({\Delta}H_m)$ and initial degradation temperature $({T_D}^i)$ were decreased with increasing PAM content. The values of ultimate strength and initial modulus gave the maximum value at the 12 wt% PAM then decreased with further increase of PAM content up to 15 wt%. To measure the gas permeability of the PVA/PAM blend films, the PVA blend solutions were coated onto both biaxially oriented propylene (BOPP) and poly (ethylene terephthalate)(PET) films. The oxygen transmission rate $(O_2\;TR)$ permeability values mono- tonically decreased with increasing PAM content. However, moisture vapor transmission rate was not affected by PAM content.

Comparison of the Neural Substrates Mediating the Semantic Processing of Korean and English Words Using Positron Emission Tomography (양전자방출단층촬영을 이용한 국어단어와 영어단어의 어의처리 신경매개체의 특성 비교)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to search the relatively specific brain regions related to the semantic processing of Korean and English words on the one hand and the regions common to both on the other. Materials and Methods: Regional cerebral blood flow associated with different semantic tasks was examined using $[^{15}O]H_2O$ positron omission tomography in 13 healthy volunteers. The tasks consisted of semantic tasks for Korean words, semantic tasks for English words and control tasks using simple pictures. The regions specific and common to each language were identified by the relevant subtraction analysis using statistical parametric mapping. Results: Common to the semantic processing of both words, the activation site was observed in the fusiform gyrus, particularly the left side. In addition, activation of the left inferior temporal gyrus was found only in the semantic processing of English words. The regions specific to Korean words were observed in multiple areas, including the right primary auditory cortex; whereas the regions specific to English words were limited to the right posterior visual area. Conclusion: Internal phonological process is engaged in performing the visual semantic task for Korean words of the high proficiency, whereas visual scanning plays an important role in performing the task for English words of the low proficiency.

Storage Quality of Sulhyang Strawberries as Affected by High O2 Atmosphere Packaging (고산소 환경기체조절 포장조건에 따른 설향 딸기의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • The storage quality of fresh Sulhyang strawberries packaged under modified atmospheres was investigated to examine the effect of high $O_2$ on the fruit. Fresh strawberries were packed into PP trays and top-sealed with PET/PP film. Initial gas compositions inside the packages were varied with air, 40% $O_2$/60% $N_2$, 60% $O_2$/40% $N_2$, and 80% $O_2$/20% $N_2$. Sealed packages in PE film bags with air and perforated PP trays were also used as another treatment and control, respectively. Quality attributes and viable cell counts of pathogenic bacteria were assessed during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 12 days. High $O_2$ concentration showed no significant effects on the physicochemical and microbial qualities of strawberries. Fruit packaged in PE film bags with 6-15% $O_2$ and 7-9% $CO_2$ during storage had the lowest viable cell counts of inherent microorganisms among the treatment samples. Growth of pathogenic bacteria was suppressed in perforated packages where molds occurred frequently. In an overall sensory aspect, the PE film packages exhibited higher scores than the others at the end of storage period. The experimental results suggested that gas-permeable film packaging with an appropriate combination of $O_2$ and $CO_2$ rather than gas-barrier tray packaging with an initially high $O_2$ concentration would be suitable for improving the storability of strawberries.

Diagnostic Efficacy of FDG-PET Imaging in Solitary Pulmonary Nodule (고립성폐결절의 진단시 FDG-PET의 임상적 유용성에 관한 연구)

  • Background : Over one-third of solitary pulmonary nodules are malignant, but most malignant SPNs are in the early stages at diagnosis and can be cured by surgical removal. Therefore, early diagnosis of malignant SPN is essential for the lifesaving of the patient. The incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in Korea is somewhat higher than those of other countries and a large number of SPNs are found to be tuberculoma. Most primary physicians tend to regard newly detected solitary pulmonary nodule as tuberculoma with only noninvasive imaging such as CT and they prefer clinical observation if the findings suggest benignancy without further invasive procedures. Many kinds of noninvasive procedures for confirmatory diagnosis have been introduced to differentiate malignant SPNs from benign ones, but none of them has been satisfactory. FOG-PET is a unique tool for imaging and quantifying the status of glucose metabolism. On the basis that glucose metabolism is increased in the malignant transfomled cells compared with normal cells, FDG-PET is considered to be the satisfactory noninvasive procedure which can differentiate malignant SPNs from benign SPNs. So we performed FOG-PET in patients with solitary pulmonary nodule and evaluated the diagnostic accuracy in the diagnosis of malignant SPNs. Method : 34 patients with a solitary pulmonary nodule less than 6 cm of irs diameter who visited Samsung Medical Center from Semptember, 1994 to Semptember, 1995 were evaluated prospectively. Simple chest roentgenography, chest computer tomography, FOG-PET scan were performed for all patients. The results of FOG-PET were evaluated comparing with the results of final diagnosis confirmed by sputum study, PCNA, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, or thoracotomy. Results : (I) There was no significant difference in nodule size between malignant (3.1 1.5cm) and benign nodule(2.81.0cm)(p>0.05). (2) Peal SUV(standardized uptake value) of malignant nodules (6.93.7) was significantly higher than peak SUV of benign nodules(2.71.7) and time-activity curves showed continuous increase in malignant nodules. (3) Three false negative cases were found among eighteen malignant nodule by the FDG-PET imaging study and all three cases were nonmucinous bronchioloalveolar carcinoma less than 2 em diameter. (4) FOG-PET imaging resulted in 83% sensitivity, 100% specificity, 100% positive predictive value and 84% negative predictive value. Conclusion: FOG-PET imaging is a new noninvasive diagnostic method of solitary pulmonary nodule thai has a high accuracy of differential diagnosis between malignant and benign nodule. FDG-PET imaging could be used for the differential diagnosis of SPN which is not properly diagnosed with conventional methods before thoracotomy. Considering the high accuracy of FDG-PET imaging, this procedure may play an important role in making the dicision to perform thoracotomy in diffcult cases.

Step Coverge of Tantalum Oxide Thin Film Grown by Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (유기금속 화학증착법을 이용한 탄탈륨 산화 박막의 층덮힘 특성 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 PET(PentaEthoxy Tanatalum:Ta(OC2H5)5) 유기금속 화합물 전구체를 사용하여 차세대 초고집적회로 제조시 고유전체 물질로 유망한 Ta2O5 박막을 열화학증착 방법에 의하여 증착하였다. 본 증착실험을 통하여 여러 가지 운속기체, 기판온도, 반응압력 등의 공정변수가 층덮힘에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였으며 Monte Carlo 전산모사 결과와 기판온도 변화에 따른 층덮힘 패턴의 변화에 대한 실험결과를 비교하여 부착계수를 산출하였다. 운송기체로는 N2, Ar, He을 바꿔가며 실험하였으며 He>N2>Artns으로 층덮힘이 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 운송기체의 종류에 따라 운동량 확산도, 열 확산도, 물질 확산도 등의 이동현상 특성값들이 다르기 때문이라 생각된다. 기판온도의 증가는 운송기체의 종류에 관계없이 층덮힘을 악화시켰으며 도랑내부에서의 Knudsen 확산과 표면반응물의 탈착에 비해 표면반응이 보다 지배적인 역할을 담당함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 질소를 운송기체로 사용한 경우에 부착계수의 겉보기 활성화 에너지는 15.9Kcal/mol로 나타났다. 그리고 3Torr 이하에서 반응압력이 증가하는 반응압력이 증가하는 경우에는 물질 확산도의 감소 효과 때문에 층덮힘이 악화되었다. 본 연구결과 3Torr, 35$0^{\circ}C$에서 He 운송기체를 이용한 경우가 가장 우수한 층덮힘을 얻을 수 있는 최적 공정 조건임을 알 수 있었다.

유기막 위에 증착된 저온 ITO(Indium Tin Oxide) 박막의 식각특성

  • 투명전도막인 Ito(Indium Tin Oxide)는 flat panel display 와 solar cell 같은 optoelectronic 이나 microelectronic device에서 널리 이용되어 지고 있다. 현재 상용화되고 있는 거의 대부분의 ITO 박막은 sputtering법에 의해 제조되고 있으나 공정상의 이유로 15$0^{\circ}C$이상의 기판온도가 요구되어진다. 그런, 실제 display device 제조공정에서는 비정질 실리콘 박막이나 유기막 위에 ITO박막을 제작할 필요성이 증대되어 지고 있고, 또한 다른 전자소자에 있어서도 상온 ITO 박막 형성 공정에 대한 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 이러한 이유로 본 실험에서는 IBAE(Ion Beam Assisted Evsporation)을 이용하여 저온 ITO박막을 유기막 위에 증착하는 공정에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 이렇게 증착된 ITO 박막의 결정성은 비정질이었다. 또한, 모든 display device 제작에는 식각공정이 필수인데 기존에 사용되고 있는 wet etching 법은 등방성 식각특성 때문에 미세 pattern 형성에 부적합?, 따라서 비등방성 식각에 용이한 plasma etching법을 사용하여 저온 증착된 ITO 박막의 식각특성을 알아보았다. 실험에 사용된 식각장비는 자장 강화된 유도결합형 플라즈마 식각장비(MEICP)를 사용하였으며, 13.56MHz의 RF power를 사용하였다. 식각조건으로 source power는 600W~1000W, 기판 bias boltage는 -100V~-250V를 가하였으며, Ar, CH4, O2, H2, BCl3의 식각 gases, 5mTorr~30mTorr의 working pressure 변화 그리고 기판 온도에 따른 식각특성을 관찰하였다. ITO 가 증착된 기판으로는 유기물 중 투명전도성 박막에 기판으로서 사용가능성이 클 것으로 기대되어지는 PET(polyethylene-terephtalate), PC(polycarbonate), 아크릴을 사용하여 기판 변화가 식각특성에 미치는 영향에 대해서 각각 관찰하였다. 식각속도의 측정은 stylus profiler를 이용하여 측정하였으며 식각후에 표면상태는 scanning electron spectroscopy(SEM)을 이용하여 관찰하였다.

Preparation of Powdered Smoked-Dried Mackerel Soup and Its Taste Compounds (고등어분말수우프의 제조 및 정미성분에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to prepare powdered smoked-dried mackerel which can be used as a soup base, and to examine storage stability and the taste compounds of Products. Raw mackerel are filleted, toiled for 10 minutes and pressed to remove lipids, and then soaked in extract solution of skipjack meat. This soaked mackerel are smoked 3 times to $10-12\%$ moisture content at $80^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. And the smoked-dried mackerel were pulverized to 50 mesh. Finally, the powdered smoked-dried mackerel were packed in a laminated film $bag(PET/Al\;foil/CPP:\;5{\mu}m/15{\mu}m/70{\mu}m,\;15\times17cm)$ with air(product C), nitrogen(product N) and oxygen absorber(product O), and then stored at room temperature for 100 days. The moisture and crude lipid content of powdered smoked-dried mackerel was $11.3-12.3\%,\;12\%$, respectively, and water activity is 0.52-0.56. And these values showed little changes during storage. The pH, VBN and amino nitrogen content increased slowly during storage. Hydrophilic and lipophilic brown pigment formation showed a tendency of increase in product(C) and showed little change in product(N) and (O). The TBA value, peroxide value and carbonyl value of product(N) and (O) were lower than those of product (C). The major fatty acids of products were 16:0, 18:1, 22:6, 18:0 and 20:5, and polyenoic acids decreased, while saturated and monoenoic acids increased during processing and storage of products. The IMP content in products were 420.2-454.2 mg/100 g and decreased slightly with storage period. And major non-volatile organic acids in products were lactic acid, succinic acid and $\alpha-ketoglutaric$ acid. In free amino acids and related compounds, major ones are histidine, alanine, hydroxyproline, lysine, glutamic acid and anserine, which occupied $80.8\%$ of total free amino acids. The taste compounds of powdered smoked-dried mackerel were free amino acids and related compounds (1,279.4 mg/100 g), non-volatile organic acids(948.1 mg/100 g), nucleotides and their related compounds (672.8 mg/100 g), total creatinine(430.4 ntg/100 g), tetaine(86.6 mg/100 g) and small amount of TMAO. The extraction condition of powdered smoked-dried mackerel in preparing soup stock is appropriate at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1 minute. Judging from the results of taste and sensory evaluation, it is concluded that the powdered smoked-dried mackerel can be used as natural flavoring substance in preparing soups and broth.
